Pokémon Mascot Showdown: Generation VII

Hey everybody, due to certain circumstances, we’re bringing you the last regional Mascot Showdown a little bit later! The winner of the last showdown is Xerneas with 53%.
Let’s move on to our last region: Alola. This brand new region is the startpoint for Generation VII – bringing incredible, new features like Trials, Z-Moves, the Battle Royal, Poké Rides, regional variants and so much more!

Pokémon Sun Version

Pokémon Sun featured Solgaleo, the Sunne Pokémon, on its cover. It resembles a more robust white lion design complete with a galaxy motif on its forehead. Its crownlike spikes and its tuffs of fur around its head resemble a sun. Among the people of Alola, it’s known as the beast that devours the sun and has therefore been honored as its emissary.

Solgaleo is the only known Pokémon that can learn the move Sunsteel Strike. Along with Lunala, its counterpart, it’s the only Legendary Pokémon that’s part of an evolutionary line. Not to mention it also has the highest HP-stat of all Steel-type Pokémon. Its name comes from ‘sol‘ (Latin for ‘sun’), ‘Galileo‘ (the man who proved that the Earth rotated around the sun) and ‘leo‘ (Latin for ‘lion’).

Pokémon Moon Version

Lunala, the Moone Pokémon, graced the cover of Pokémon Moon. It’s a large skeleton-like bat whose wings seem to resemble the moon, and are made of the night sky. Much like Solgaleo, it can travel between our dimension and the Ultra Space. Additionally, it’s called the beast that calls the moon, thus gaining the title “emissary of the moon” by the Alolan people.

Lunala‘s signature move is called Moongeist Beam. While Solgaleo is called the male evolution of Cosmog, Lunala is called the female one. Its name derives from ‘luna‘ (Latin for ‘moon’) and ‘ala‘ (Latin for ‘wing’).

  1. Im proud to annnounce, Ice is now the rarest type of pokemon. (Both fairy and ghost surpassed it in one generation). Now ice is the worst type defensively and commonness.
It’s my favorite element, and I want it to be my favorite type of pokemon, but it has so much against it.

  2. This Vullaby I’m using in Moon right now is so trash… and I just realized it doesn’t evolve until level 54 too so it’ll be dead weight for a LOOOONG time… 😉

    • Ahahahahah… no
People argue it’s good? I say pick up a Marowak or a Salazzle and they’ll be a million times better

          • Well, having played all of them, I think Rowlet is the worst starter for in-game with the hardest progression, but it has some advantages when entering post-game as I stated in the other reply.

I think they have fair tips in that Marowak and Salazzle are easy pickups early in island 2 when a non-Litten player needs a decent fire-type.

          • ok i’m only saying i’m using incineroar because i’m probably using a shiinotic and araquanid as part of the team

    • Mine is decent? If you use one I’d recommend giving it fake out. However, I would never choose it over Rowlet. I also would go with Salazzle over it as a fire type.

    • Anything can be good in normal playthroughs. Just pick what you like!

There’s some encounters that Primarina trivializes, and there’s some encounters that Incineroar makes super easy. Meanwhile there’s no real advantage in picking Decidueye except to use as a false swiper in the post game.

  5. The male Solgaleo is a vicious and ferocious beast with little detail added to him.
The female Lunala is a graceful and divine being with a more elaborate design.

    Real subtle Game Freak.

  6. Since I probably won’t have time to be here before Friday, here are some of my suggestions for the Switch Presentation. Do not take these as fact, they are merely my guesses.

In terms of hardware, they will show of the Switch itself first. I’m guessing at $250/€250 for the base model and $300/€300 for the premium model. The base model has 32GB of internal memory and the premium 64GB and will come with a pack in game (Splatoon 1.5?).
JoyCon will be sold combined for a price of $60. They will go in detail about all the buttons, the extra shoulder, clickable sticks, analogue triggers, pointer functionalities and motion controls. The Switch Pro Controller retails for $60 and is rechargable through micro-usb (instead of mini-usb like the Wii U Pro controller). It comes with a 16GB microsd card too. The screen is multitouch obviously but is mostly used for menu stuff.

For the software, Zelda will be the big show, releasing at launch worldwide. The enhanced ports of Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Smash Bros, Xenoblade will also get shown in a sort of sizzle reel with indepth gameplay and changes at the Treehouse event.
The new Mario is the big summer title of the Switch. They won’t mention a thing about Pokémon Stars, they still sell a lot of Sun/Moon and will probably wait until March for a new big reveal. Expect it to release in October/November though.
I also expect a tease for Animal Crossing Switch, 2018 though. There might be another Monolith soft game shown similar to Xenoblade X.

Casing for the software will be slightly smaller than DVD (mostly thinner), but will retain a rather large rectangle shape to still make it feel like a console game. Buying games online is easier and there is now an actual account system which allows you transfer your own games to another console.

So, what are your thoughts? Who’s going to watch the event? And who is planning to buy a Switch some time this year, especially if the rumoured Pokémon Stars feature a slightly altered story and extra additions?

    • I think I agree with most of what you’ve speculated. I’d say the only thing I disagree with is Stars. I don’t think they’ll talk about Stars until at least May. Since it’s not a first installment I doubt they’ll have that much time between announcement and release. I agree it’ll likely be released around the time you’ve said tho. As for everything else I’d say it’s pretty realistic. The one thing I hope you are 100% correct about is the account system. Nintendo SUUUUUUCKS when it comes to account stuff. People like to complain about PSN and Xbox live for their short comings, but they are WAY better than whatever the hell Nintendo has for us. A real account system is a must. the Nintendo ID and Friend Code thing they have going on right now is awful imo………Anyway yeah I agree with most of what you’ve said lol

      • I think they acknowledged the problems with the account system though, and they have been working close with DeNA on the backend. I’m positive it will turn out a lot better this time.
