Pokémon Mascot Showdown: Generation VII

Hey everybody, due to certain circumstances, we’re bringing you the last regional Mascot Showdown a little bit later! The winner of the last showdown is Xerneas with 53%.
Let’s move on to our last region: Alola. This brand new region is the startpoint for Generation VII – bringing incredible, new features like Trials, Z-Moves, the Battle Royal, Poké Rides, regional variants and so much more!

Pokémon Sun Version

Pokémon Sun featured Solgaleo, the Sunne Pokémon, on its cover. It resembles a more robust white lion design complete with a galaxy motif on its forehead. Its crownlike spikes and its tuffs of fur around its head resemble a sun. Among the people of Alola, it’s known as the beast that devours the sun and has therefore been honored as its emissary.

Solgaleo is the only known Pokémon that can learn the move Sunsteel Strike. Along with Lunala, its counterpart, it’s the only Legendary Pokémon that’s part of an evolutionary line. Not to mention it also has the highest HP-stat of all Steel-type Pokémon. Its name comes from ‘sol‘ (Latin for ‘sun’), ‘Galileo‘ (the man who proved that the Earth rotated around the sun) and ‘leo‘ (Latin for ‘lion’).

Pokémon Moon Version

Lunala, the Moone Pokémon, graced the cover of Pokémon Moon. It’s a large skeleton-like bat whose wings seem to resemble the moon, and are made of the night sky. Much like Solgaleo, it can travel between our dimension and the Ultra Space. Additionally, it’s called the beast that calls the moon, thus gaining the title “emissary of the moon” by the Alolan people.

Lunala‘s signature move is called Moongeist Beam. While Solgaleo is called the male evolution of Cosmog, Lunala is called the female one. Its name derives from ‘luna‘ (Latin for ‘moon’) and ‘ala‘ (Latin for ‘wing’).

  1. Obviously it’s going to be Lunala as there are already tons of lion Pokemon and although there are bat Pokemon, at least Lunala has a unique, distinct shape, unlike Solgaleo.

  2. Oh dip……They’re saying that Thursday’s Switch event is gonna be an hour long
This one is gonna need a disco nap

  3. Lunala’s gonna win this one I mean is it even a competition at this point? Lunala has elegance, grace, beauty, and and a dark mysterious charm to it, that compared to Solgaleo’s brash and generic look i think it’s clear whose the victor here.

          • No, it’s just a fun insult for it
There’s also the fact that Lunala wins 1v1
Solgaleo literally looks like it was ripped outta digimon
Nintendo took the most generic possible route for sun
It does not fit Lillie at all
            Has worse credits picture
And that the third eye gimmick it has has already been done by Jirachi, who *gasp* is also steel/psychic

          • Lunala doesn’t win 1v1, Solgaleo LITERALLY HAS CRUNCH when you first get him, which is a OHKO. Since they both have the same speed, whoever wins the speed tie wins.

Subjective, depends whether you hate its design or not (biased claim)

Explain the most ‘generic route’ Cuz Moon is the same exact story just for edgy teens with ‘problems’

More than Lunala. Lillie is a happy go-lucky person. Lunala is edge.deck and fits Gladion more than her

            Who the flip cares.

Don’t act all innocent, Lunala has that third eye too. Also Lunala becomes a Gold Ring to do damage. Gold Rings have already been done by Hoopa who *gasp* is also Psychic/Ghost

Come at me, I could do this all day.

          • Terribly sorry, what was that about an OHKO?
            252 Atk Solgaleo Crunch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Shadow Shield Lunala: 202-238 (48.6 – 57.3%) — 92.6% chance to 2HKO

          • XD
            Know what’s funny?
            252 SpA Lunala Moongeist Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Solgaleo: 374-444 (90.1 – 106.9%) — 43.8% chance to OHKO
            Solgaleo wins right?

          • (Tsk tsk tsk)
Also, how is Lunala edgy? It’s beautiful, I’d consider Solgaleo trying to hard. This is like a power ranger design

          • Actually it is still up to luck, I was just talking to my sister for a second, I have a life outside of Pokemon too.

          • Oh yeah I forgot to mention, I wasn’t running modest on that Lunala
            252+ SpA Lunala Moongeist Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Solgaleo: 410-486 (98.7 – 117.1%) — 93.8% chance to OHKO

      • Your right Solgaleo is mighty, mighty PLAIN!!! Lunala is a great pokemon in type and far greater than your legendary metagross in terms of design and ability. To put it simply Solgaleo is just your generic lion. I fail to see how lunala or me qualifies as “edgy”

  4. I dreamt last night about the switch presentation (i can’t even escape it in my dreams) and these are the details I remeber.
    – Every Nintendo switch was sold as a jello cake, and all the parts where in a different piece (eat the cake, get the parts)
    – They were partnering with Sony and Microsoft to make the Switch
    – The new Mario game was called Super Mario: Ice Land (yes, ice land) and they specifically said that it was a combination of Sunshine and Mario Golf, which was really weird. It was a platformer still, though
    – They canceled BotW entirely

Really vivid dream now that I think about it

  5. Also, GO SOLGALEO
I didn’t thought I would like it but it’s the first cover legend that I’ve grown attached to over the game.

  6. Lunala is weak to Dark…
Yes, the Moon Pokemon, the Night Pokemon, is weak to Dark.

Don’t even try saying, “WELL THE SUN POKEMON IS WEAK TO FIRE” Because if you payed attention in Middle School you would realize the sun creates radiation through Nuclear Fusion of Hydrogen into Helium, there is no Oxygen on the Sun thus no fire can be made.

    • I hope Stars doesn’t happen and instead Gen 4 Remakes as there is a 100% chance if it happened it’ll be on the 3DS. Don’t you dare tell me it’s on the Switch, DON’T. YOU. DARE.

      Reply
        • Never has generations ever been in separate consoles. Clearly and obviously Gen 4 remakes will be on the 3DS while Stars will happen on Switch. Gen 4 remakes will for sure at least be on the 3ds, if not i’ll economically sanction and sue the GameFreakian government for lying.

          Reply
          • you do realize u just went against yourself, Stars is in the same generation yet u say it will be on the switch? but you just said generations never been on separate consoles. And they wouldnt be lying they never flat out said OH WE ARE NEVER GONNA DO THIS OR THAT

          • Stars I don’t care if it’s on another console, it’s the Gen 4 remakes i’m more concerned about. I want to bring my Pokemon Bank team + Moon team there, and if they’ll be stuck in Moon, so be it, I’m cutting my Pokemon playing at Moon.

          • I’ve seen much more people who want it on the 3DS too, this place is just a place filled with rich kids.

        • i hope it’s at least biocompatible. Not making it on the 3DS is going to substantially lower the quantity of games sold, not everyone’s going to spend money for another console JUST for 1 game. Many people, like moi for example, prefer to have it on the 3ds. After all, how else will Pokemon Bank be compatible with Gen 4 remakes? And we don’t even know if they were talking about MAIN Pokemon games or side like Pokemon Stadium and Pokken.

          Reply
          • I still believe heavily that Gen 4 remakes WILL happen and WILL be one way or another on the 3DS. Either solely on it or 3DS/Switch. As long as I can play it on my 2DS, I’ll be glad. If it’s Switch exclusive, I’ll rage quit the Pokemon community.

          • I wouldn’t say so. People will always buy Pokemon games. It’s not the first time a Pokemon game has jumped to a new system. If Stars is a decent enough game it’ll sell just fine. Saying on the same system for so long just because people dpon’t want to have to buy a new system is silly. No matter what eventually you’ll have to buy the new system. That is unless you don’t care and in that case then it shouldn’t matter as much.

          • Still, I think 99% of the people here FORGOT that Emerald was released WHEN THE DS WAS RELEASED. So was B2W2! This isn’t the only case. Case closed, Gen 4 Remakes if coming will be on 3DS.

          • So? They can also have the Gen 4 remakes released on the 3DS because they’re working on Stars for the Switch!

          • True, but the timeline has changed significantly. Due to them releasing those games so late into the new systems life span they’ve completely fell out of sync with the launches of said systems. There’s nothing stopping them from correcting that lack of sync by releasing a game the year the Switch launches. It’s not a definite that Pokemon games will always be staggered. It’s just how things went. I honestly think they should have made the jump to the 3DS when gen 5 came out. They shouldn’t have dragged out the pixel games as long as they did on the regular DS. Two gens is too much for a single console imo. Also part of the reason they did gen 5 on the DS is because they were in part unwilling to make the jump to full 3D. It was Iwata that basically said they needed to step up their game.

  7. bored Fakemon time
    Clayot
    Grass/Ground
    The Planter PKM
    Sturdy/Harvest HA: Weak Armor
its body consists of a spherical tan clay vase with open cracks on its front, bottom and sides each with a twisted viney limb sticking out, it has a golden swirling light for eyes and a large leaf sticking out the funnel on top
“their soft plant bodies are protected by a shell made out of hardened mud, it has plenty of nutrients in its body so wayward seeds can be seen growing on it”

then when it undergoes a long and arduous leveling process it evolves into the mighty Terrapotta (i gotta draw this one for any of it to make sense)
    Terrapotta
    Grass/Ground
    Cermatic Pokemon
    Sturdy/Harvest HA: Weak Armor
This pokemon can only be described as armored knight Pokemon made from a series clay plant pots all conjoined together with a system of roots,
its torso is a large ovoid plant box with cracks on its top, bottom and sides with a long root connecting another plant pot for a shoulder, and forearm, and it has a pot for the pelvis with more roots connecting to a vase for the calf, its plant body has clawed feet and hands, lastly open faced plant pot helmet with glowing yellow eyes and a long leaf plume

  8. Ugh…..Initially I loved Lunala way more as I don’t particularly like Solgaleos body, but after playing Sun I have a new appreciation for Solgaleo…..I’m in a tough spot….lol

    • Just vote for which one you truly feel was better used. Personally I voted for our sun lion since it really does fit Lillie better then some bat and I’d argue is the better one over all since the physical bias in pokemon is still very strong.

  9. Since are still doing Fakemon, here’s the rest of the evolutionary line for Silkulla (I posted this on the other article but realized that a new one was made):

    Shellion
    The Concealed Pokemon
    Type: Bug/Fairy
    Ability: Shell Armor/Illuminate
    Hidden Ability: Overcoat
    Height: 2’00”
    Weight: 23 lbs
Dex Entry: Contary to what Silkulla is like, Shellion are a dark red, because of the metamorphic effect on Silkulla after evolution. Their shell encased around their body is somewhat tough so that it can safely prepare for evolution. Shellion often hang around on branches, with their silk latched onto it. However, the silk can break and fall, so sometimes Shellion can be found falling from trees on accident.
Name Origin: Shellion is a combo of Shell and Vermillion

    Lustesolai
    The Elegant Pokemon
    Type: Bug/Fairy
    Ability: Magic Guard/Illuminate
    Hidden Ability: Overcoat
    Height: 4’04”
    Weight: 36 lbs
Dex Entry: Lustesolai are one of the most beautiful Pokemon in the region. They glow a beautiful light from their light green wings, and illuminate the area when at nighttime. The glow on their wings are different for each Lustesolai, so there are varieties of them in the wild. Dust from their wings can cause relaxation amongst any, and for those affected by its dust are taken away by its elegance.
Name Origin: Lustesolai is a combination of luster, esoteric, and gealai, which is Irish for lunar.

Evolutionary line: Silkulla -(level 13)-> Shellion -(Level up at level 25 when at nighttime)-> Lustesolai

  10. Solgaleo is there any debate?
Solgaleo is literally the good lion Pokemon we all wanted. Even though I used pyroar it has NOTHING on Solgaleo. Has one the best type combo and best story for its typing. And my love for it increased when i could use jt for BoA. It was an obvious MVP even though it loses to Lunala. I hate leaving this Pokemon in my box because im so connected to it. Solgaleo is is starting to take over as my favorite legendary. Lunala stands no chance.
