RUMOR: 20 New Pokémon Added for Pokémon Stars

A week ago Laura Dale, a video game journalist, participated in a Reddit AMA (‘Ask Me Anything’) session for the Nintendo Switch in which she claimed that the Pokémon Sun and Moon follow-up, codenamed Pokémon Stars, could feature 20 new Pokémon.

This is notable as Dale has been involved in leaking other information about the Nintendo Switch which has been proven accurate. She mentions that another gaming writer (who unceremoniously announced Pokémon Stars on the release day of Sun & Moon) didn’t think the inclusion was likely.

Where this leaves us, the fans, isn’t known, but it does raise a question: will their be Nintendo Switch exclusive Pokémon? While we have always had new forms or event legendaries for titles within the same generation, content has never been locked away on a separate console. This could make some uncomfortable if they can’t catch ’em all without ponying up what is likely to be $300 for the Switch this spring.

A Nintendo Direct focusing on the new console is just a week away, so we could see the title announced with more details then.

  3. I know its late, but last call for becoming an Elite Four member in my region! If you want to be one, just say the name of the character and typing they should be.
Grass, Ghost, and Fighting are taken as types.

  4. One day closer to January 12th! I’m actually getting really hyped for this, it feels like Nintendo’s true E3 six months late. They may not reveal all that much, but then again, it could also be a surprise-filled event! Any ideas about what I should do leading up to that day to maximize the excitement? Any favorite Nintendo soundtracks? I’m just unbelievably excited to have Nintendo refreshed entirely in this new year. I think the world needs Nintendo’s old 2006 Wii enthusiasm right about now.

  6. After seeing how bad the story was handled, I kind of want to give Sun and Moon the Steven Universe Rebirth treatment.

  7. Man, I apologize in advance for this sort of rant but I’m really disappointed with Decidueye in my playthrough. At the start of the game, it served me good enough but in the later part of the game, it turned out to be really mediocre.
First of all, Grass/Ghost is shit. It’s very useful to catch other pokémon (learns False Swipe and Normal/Fighting-type immunities prevent wild pokémon from killing themselves with recoil damage from Normal-type attacks / Final Gambit – looking at you, Riolu) but that’s it. I can’t beat Water-types as well as I expected because Ice Beam or Crunch screw it. Psychic-types are usually faster and have Shadow Ball. It’s immune to Fighting-types and I have Brave Bird on it, but they counter with Dark-type moves.
And then, there’s the stats. It doesn’t hit hard enough, it’s not fast enough, it doesn’t take hits good enough. Even with that 100 base Sp.Def, it takes a lot from Special attacks.
Granted, I checked its IVs and they aren’t the best (0 HP IV, 6 Speed IV, 15-18 IVs in Def an Sp. Def, only good one is perfect 31 IV in Atk), and if I Hyper Train it, maybe it will make a difference but at that point (when I get it to lvl 100), it won’t matter much anymore as I will have finished everything to do in the game.
Because of that, I’m considering replacing it for Tapu Koko (to complete the post-game stuff), which I caught 2 days ago and has perfect/near-perfect IVs on every stat and can beat Water-types without being afraid of Ice Beam or Dark coverage, also has Brave Bird, I could use the Fairy coverage AND is actually fast.
The only reason I’m hesitant to do it is because I have this tradition of not boxing my starter even if it isn’t that good of a pokémon (and Decidueye is actually my favorite of the 3 Alola starters) and I kinda feel bad about doing it (Lusamine’s speech during the story only reinforced this guilty feeling). I need to think about this a bit more.

    • Ironically enough, with me was the other way around. It was meh for a good chunk of the game (Especially Dartrix), but it really begun to shine when it evolved. Mine was Quirky (altough no perfect IVs) and destroyed everything in its path, even when underleveled. (take that Sucker Punch, Mega Alakazam!)

If you’re talking about competitive or Battle Tree though, that’s a different story, since none of the starters (maybe saving Incineroar) really shine in it.

Decidueye is good, it’s just not an attacker. With all the power creep in the last games, it really looks mediocre. Hell, even Tsareena has better attack than it. But I say with property after using all starters, that with it I had the most fun with a starter since my Sceptile on Ruby.

  8. In case you idiots have not read the data correctly, the switch will NOT replace the Wii U. The late Satoru said it himself!!!

  9. Those weasle words, man.

Regarding the game, well, its a different game, with its own new Pokémon. That’s valid. In any case, catching them all is not part of whats required in the game, just a thing some players do. As such, I don’t see any ethical issues.
