Pokémon Mascot Showdown: Generation VI

Greetings everyone, here is another Mascot Pokémon Showdown. The winner of last time is Zekrom with 35%!
Now it’s time for Kalos. Generation VI released in 2013 with a worldwide release for the first time. This generation contained just two main games, namely X and Y, and featured some great new stuff like the Fairy-typing, Mega Evolution and trainer customization.

Pokémon X Version

Pokémon X showcased Xerneas, the Life Pokémon. It’s the first Fairy-type Legendary and is a stag-like creature shaped like an X. The horns on its head contain the colors of the rainbow and can grant someone eternal life. When it’s at the end of its own life, it transforms into a tree and sleeps for 1000 years.

There is no other Pokémon known than Xerneas that can learn the move Geomancy, making it the only Legendary Mascot whose signature move is a status move. It has the same stat distribution as Yveltal, but has the highest base stat total and Attack stat of all non-Mega Evolved Fairy-type Pokémon. Its name may come from the letter ‘X‘ and ‘cervus‘ (Latin for ‘deer’).

Pokémon Y Version

Pokémon Y featured Yveltal, the Destruction Pokémon. It is an avian Pokémon with the Dark/Flying type combo. Its wings and tail make the letter Y when fully extended. It has the power to absorb life energy. In contrast to Xerneas, Yveltal sucks all the life energy of every living thing around it when it is at the end of its life, creating a cocoon of itself so it can sleep for 1000 years.

Yveltal‘s signature move is called Oblivion Wing. It has the highest base HP stat of all Dark-type Pokémon and is actually also the only Dark-type Mascot Legendary Pokémon known yet. Its name possibly derives from the letter ‘Y‘, ‘yvel‘ (Middle English for ‘evil’) and ‘talon‘.

  1. Ugh….I wish there was a way you could get all stages of the legends evolution line without having to trade too much…..If only they allowed you to breed your legend to get the other two lower stages. Obviously they wouldn’t be able to become the final legends, but an easy fix would to say that they need wormhole energy or something dumb and that’s why they can’t evolve past Cosmoem. It’d make things SO much easier. I want a living dex, but this stops me indefinitely. So the only way to get both Cosmog and Cosmoem is to trade, but that’s nearly impossible with how the GTS is and the fact you only get one to begin with…….*sigh*…..Also I find the alternate world/cosmog you get in it to be pointless and dumb. Good idea, but not useful enough hahaha

  2. Lolz at GF thinking enough people would register to Global Link and collectively catch 100,000,000 in a two week period 😛 Pretty sure anybody who’s participated will only get the minimum FC prize.

  3. Does anyone think Trumbeak isn’t Trumpet + Beak, but rather (Spec)trum + beak? The spectrum is for the colors on the beak, and I don’t know what a trumpet has to do with Trumbeak.

  4. Mini annoyance in sm. Lycanroc should have been two different pokemon. They have stats, abilities, movesets. They should have just made them different. Also Lycanroc midnight has awful stats. 82 speed is the awkward speed, too slow for to outspeed anything too fast for tr. Ideally it should have been. 105/125/80/55/80/42.

    • They’re trying to cut down on dex numbers though. Usually the 4 Oricorio, the wishiwashi, and the Lycanroc would’ve been seperate entries, but they’re trying not to reach 1000.

      • It’s very strange for them to do this, because there isn’t any harm in adding in more Pokemon. Not only for the forms, but some Pokemon that didn’t get an evolution (like Komala and Minior) could’ve had one, and also some could have had pre-evos (such as Turtonator)

        • It’s funny when people say pokes like turtanotor should have a prevo/Evo. Look at all the pokes from gen 1 that were perfectly fine with no evolutionary line. Aerodactyle, Lapras. I love munchlax but snorlax was already pretty complete without it. There are even more examples from other gens

        • Well think about how much freaking space that takes up guys. Not to mention just keeping up with continuity and keeping track of ALL of those Pokemon. They don’t want to over saturate their own market. You have to think of these things from a business perspective.

    • My playthrough team (Incineroar, Toucannon, Crabominable, Lycanroc, Wishiwashi and Tsareena) was outspeeded the FREAKING ENTIRE GAME by EVERYTHING. It was terrible.

  5. I’m finally getting around to grinding up my Festival Plaza level. Almost at 20 now. I’m wondering…does ever player get a designated shop to offer, much like how Friend Safaris worked in X/Y?

  7. Whenever someone mentions XY I get really angry at Game freak for making Kalos so bad.
    They had so much potential,

The legendaries Give and Take life,
Zygarde is such a cool concept
The region is based on France,
There is a King who lived 3000 years searching for his Pokémon.

Everything had so much potential, yet GF messed every thing up and now Kalos games are the worst games in the Franchise after Kanto. :/

        • Red and Blue is the 1st generation of Pokémon. The first of many things are usually the roughest. It was also the first to get a remake, the roughest of all the Pokémon game remakes. If Game Freak were to create these games again with everything that they’ve learned, they would definitely be a great game to play, especially because sometimes things get better with time… except for bland Kalos. One of their latest games and yet it had no spice. At least Kanto has the spice of a child’s first Pokémon adventure and is the pioneer generation. Either way, I love and accept every single Pokémon game, region, and Pokémon that exists. The diversity of that world as a whole is what makes Pokémon so great.

          • I’m not looking it as the first.
I’m not looking at Kalos as one of the newest.

What I’m looking at is, how much I liked the game. And I didn’t like Kanto. I don’t hate it, and I DID enjoy the games, just not as much as the newer ones.

It being the oldest one Doesn’t make me like it more.

          • With your first reply, you should’ve clarified that it was more of your opinion than anything else or it just comes off as if you’re claiming facts, especially since the only thing you had to say about it was that Kanto was “the WORST.” Since, sadly, it was the worst to you, but not to many others.

And you probably should be looking at it as the first because the time it was created is a huge factor of a game’s gameplay and aesthetics, which makes it an important. Point being, if your favorite generation was instead the first one, it might actually affect how much you’d truly enjoy it, due to that era’s limitations. If Kanto we’re introduced as the 7th gen instead, you’d probably like it better than you do, similarly, due to this era’s advantages.

          • Literally all it has going for it is that it started the series. If we ignore that it was the first, it doesn’t have anything going for it.

          • That’s part of my point. It was the first. It doesn’t have that luxury of experience the other generations have poured into them. Now, if we were to go back to that generation in a whole new game, it would undoubtedly be great. Game Freak would add an actual story (Imagine a story about your journey, slightly altered based on which starter you choose. Battling Team Rocket and the mysterious 8th Gym Leader. Becoming a legendary Champion and eventually heading towards Mt. Silver. Each legendary having its own little backstory/quest. There’s even more that can be expanded upon!), it would look better than Sun & Moon since each new game tends to have a visual upgrade, and would, of course, come with cool new possibly gimmicky features.

Point being, if Sun & Moon, or any recent generation, for that matter, were the 1st or 2nd generation instead of the 6th or 7th, looking back at it, we most likely wouldn’t nearly enjoy it as much as we do now because it wouldn’t be filled with Game Freak’s past experiences and innovations or Nintendo’s advancements in soft and hardware. If you grew up with the first two generations, you’d most likely love ’em. If you grew up with the fourth generation+, you’d most likely not be satisfied with those first two gens as playing those games means playing with less features. It would be less than the acquired taste you’ve become used to from Game Freak and Pokémon.

  8. Ok, my pokedex is almost complete, I just need to do the trade + item evos. The one friend I had who has this game is on a cruise. Soooo… Anyone know where I can find someone trustworthy to trade with? =D
