Mascot Pokémon Showdown: Generation V

Hello everybody, we’re bringing you another Mascot Pokémon Showdown. The winner of last time is Giratina with 56%!
Now it’s time for Unova. Generation V released in 2010 in Japan and in 2011 in the rest of the world. This time, the generation consisted of four games: Black, White, Black 2 and White 2, and introduced amazing features, such as seasons, triple and rotation battles and the Pokémon World Tournament

Pokémon Black Version

black_en_boxartPokémon Black featured Reshiram, the Vast White Pokémon. It is a Dragon/Fire Pokémon that contains almost entirely out of fluff. By flaring the enormous engine-like tail, it can move the atmosphere of the world, which changes the weather.

Reshiram is the only Pokëmon known to be able to learn Fusion Flare and Blue Flare. Together with Zekrom, they were first shown on the Japanese and English website on the same date, which makes them the first two to be revealed worldwide simultaneously. Its name comes from ‘shiro‘ (白, ‘white’) and ‘re‘, which is just a softer sound than ‘ze‘.

Pokémon White Version

Pokémon White showcased Zekrom, the Deep Black Pokémon, white_en_boxarton its cover. He has a Dragon/Electric-typing with small black wings coming from its shoulders. Like Reshiram, Zekrom has an engine-like tail, but this one produces lightning bolts.

Zekrom has the highest Attack, Defense, and base stat total of all Electric Pokémon. It’s Ken Sugimori’s favorite Pokémon of Generation V. Its name is a combination of ‘kuro‘ (黒, ‘black’) and ‘ze‘, which is just a harder sound than ‘re‘.

Pokémon Black 2 Version

black_2_en_boxartOn the case of Pokémon Black 2 is Black Kyurem, a combination of Kyurem and Zekrom. It keeps Zekrom‘s arms, but is much more muscular than it. Its left arm, wing and lower jaw are completely covered in ice.

Black Kyurem has the highest Attack stat of all Ice Pokémon, and together with White Kyurem, it has the highest base stat total of all Ice-type Pokémon. Despite being larger than before it fused, it’s actually lighter than Kyurem. Its name comes from ‘rei‘ (冷, ‘cold’),  ‘kyuurei‘ (急冷, ‘rapid cooling’) and ‘rei‘ (零, ‘zero’).

Pokémon White 2 Version

Unlike all other generations, this generation had 2 upgraded white_2_en_boxartversions instead of one. On the second version, Pokémon White 2, you can see White Kyurem on the cover. This is a fusion of Kyurem and Reshiram. Its right wing, head plume and upper jaw are frozen.

White Kyurem has the highest Special attack stat of all Ice-type Pokémon, and, as mentioned before, the highest base stat total of all of them. It’s also the tallest Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

  1. Necrozma is very interesting, although I feel that it being pure psychic makes its ability a bit underwhelming. Though, I still like it.

  2. I don’t get why people hate Palossand. IT FITS THE THEME OF ALOLA! Sand, beaches, honestly people need to stop acting like genwunners, it’s dangerous for your health.

    • People have opinions

If they don’t like it they don’t deserve to be screamed at for being ‘genwunners’, especially since the same people who dislike the sandcastles also tend to dislike any intimate Pokémon

      Reply
        • Not really? Some people feel like if Pokémon are their worlds animals, there shouldn’t be random inanimate objects going about

It’s not inappropriate to have an opinion, especially because it’s just a freaking Pokémon

          • To be fair we have always had inanimate objects as pokemon since gen 1. So its reasonable to get mad when someone tries to use the animal argument when it comes to what to be considered a pokemon

          • That doesn’t stop people not liking any inanimate object Pokémon tho, tons of people dislike Gen 1’s

          • I’m not necessarily disagreeing but in most of the cases I’ve seen people have used the exact words “Pokemon are supposed to be animals not things, I’ll stick with gen 1” and I’m sitting in the back like “what animal is magneton again?” And their reply would be “thats different”. When in reality its not and they would excuse gen 1 simply because it was gen 1.

          • Personally I think it’s inappropriate to have a contradictory or hypocritical opinion.

Many people believe Magnemite, Voltorb, Muk have more right to be called Pokemon than Vanillux, KlinkKlang, Klefki and Pallosand.

          • My whole point is that people who dislike inanimate object Pokémon like Palossand tend to dislike the older ones too

And that it’s not bad not to like a fictional bundle of pixels because you don’t like its concept

          • Yeh many people do and at the same time many people don’t…sometimes the argument is valid, other times not so much.

But hey who am I to judge…people will be people. Trying to talk sense to them is like trying to convince them not to vote for Trump. And we all know how well that worked out :p

          • This is too black and white of an opinion. I like some inanimate object pokemon, but not others. I don’t like the old and hate the new. It all depends on the design.

    • I hope in the anime it has crazy stretchy Sandy geokinesis
Like it shifts into the ground and its arm stretches out to snatch you

OOOOOOOOHHHH imagine the idea of a Totem Palossand a giant beach cave with tons of Sandygast minions slinking around

    • I don’t really like it because of the design. It just doesn’t speak to me. That doesn’t make me a genwunner. That said, I still plan on using one on my popplio team.

  4. Anyone interested in trading a spare Celesteela for a Kartana? Ain’t getting anything form GTS (unlike Swole for Mosa where I literally went on and off it)

  5. Do you actually unlock new hairstyles as you progress through the story? And Serebii says you can only get your bangs cut, but I don’t see that option yet.

    Reply
    • Nope. I think the hairstyles are the same throughout.

And what sucks is they take the money before you choose a cut and and you can’t even preview the cuts before choosing

  6. Rapid fire question time because I’m bored and regardless of how much y’all may complain you love em anyway :p

If you could capture/befriend one Ultra Beast, which one would it be and how did you accomplish it?

    Reply
    • Hmmmmmm I honestly am developing feelings for Kartana
Naturally I’d go after Buzzwole or Guzzlord but given their…..destructive nature, it seems too macho or junkivoracious…. that Kartana seems much more stable and persuadable

I honestly think when we get a SM movie we’ll see Ash either befriending Kartana or Nihilego

    • If by befriend you mean come to a mutual understanding with (cos I dislike all of them and wouldn’t want to capture or be like actual friends with them), I’d go with Xurkitree.

I used my Metagross to screw with its electricity sucking habits, it realised it wouldn’t get too far. We came to an understanding where I allow it siphon excess electricity produced during my experiments

      Reply
        • Xurkitree is just electricity based. Metagross can his his electromagnetic fields to limit or prevent Xurkitree from plugging itself into the power grid and draining power.

          Reply
          • And it can suck out electricity which has a correlation to a magnetic field which Metagross has
So it’s basically letting it drain its power

          • Unless I’m getting Xurkitree physiology wrong. I thought it had to actually be plugged in to drain power. Hence why it goes directly to the power plant to drain power as opposed to just doing it from wherever.

          • It plugs its tail to recharge itself with subterranean electricity when low
It definitely can ensnare its arms onto a machine or machine like Pokemon and suck out every drop of energy

          • Fair enough if I misunderstood what Xurkitree can do. But Metagross could still keep it at bay with its Psychic abilities in my opinion.

Does it have to be in contact with something to drain It’s power or can it be done at a distance?

          • I think it still has to touch it
But that wirey body could probably evade a few blows ( I doubt it’s a special attacker)

          • If we are talking anime based. All Psychic types have the ability move things using their Psychic powers without touching them. Xurkitree wouldn’t come anywhere close enough to start draining Metagross’ power.

          • Is it base Metagross or Mega Metagross? If it’s the latter Xurkitree has no chance of even touching it due to speed

And also Metagross doesn’t really have anything to plug into

          • Hence why I said the latter (Mega)

But you also have to keep in mind that Xurkitree probably doesn’t have any aerial mobility, unlike Metagross

  7. Oh btw I had a Shiny Pokemon dream……
It was this Turtle Kappa Knight like Pokemon named…..I vaguely remember Krex
It looked like that Beta Turtle Pokemon with a shells all over its body, holding a broken shell fragment as a sword
