Combat Power Nerfs & Buffs Coming to GO

As usual, Niantic has released some details on their next update for Pokémon GO!

This time around the latest update to their popular mobile game will make adjustments to the Combat Power of several Pokémon: increasing the CP of Pokémon such as Alakazam, Rhydon, and Gengar (mentioned specifically), and lowering the CP of other, unspecified Pokémon.

In the words of Niantic, “These changes will allow a more balanced and competitive battling and training experience in Gyms. We will continue to adjust the CP going forward to improve the game balance when necessary.”

No word on an official list of all the effected Pokémon, however if you open up the app the changes to CP have already been implanted! Check out Niantic’s official blog for their full statement!

In addition to this, in celebration of Thanksgiving, starting November 22nd users will be able to enjoy a week of double XP and Stardust!

  1. Something I thought was poorly planned out: immeadiatly after the first battle royal with Hau and Gladion, the battle royales are all level 50 Pokemon, and the game doesn’t bump your Pokemon up to that level. So after they hype up this mode, it becomes unplayable for a while.

  2. Out of curiosity, would anyone want to do anything Christmas related? Like a Secret Santa trade, or a Christmas themed tourney, etc

I know it’s not for another month but I still feel it could be really exciting!

  3. I’m not sure if I should use Lunaala or not for the E4. The story really left me wanting to use it like in Black and White but I love my team and I don’t know who o apuld replace 🙁

      Nihilego-What is a physical attack?
      Pheromosa-Attack it and it dies
      Kartana-Special attack/Fire-Type = ded
Xurkitree-Attack (probably twice) and it dies
      Buzzwole-Special attack/Flying-Type = ded
      Guzzlord-Lol no its terrible

      • The thing with most of them is their crazy stat spreads. Pheromosa has paper thin defences, but insane speed and attacking stats. Even finding an opening to get an attack in against it is tough (outside of priority, but that’s where Tapu Lele comes in).
Nihlego has a very trollish speed stat at 103 as well.
Xurkitree with scarf is an amazing late game sweeper (akin to scarf Moxie Pokemon).
The UBs have a lot going for them….except Guzzlord.

  4. Can we all just agree that Guzzlord is terrible

    • Nah fam

It’s extremely obvious, Ground type (threw weaknesses that tend to be special) with a high Defense and defense boosting ability?

It’s very obvious investing in SpD is necessary

    • Urgh, if only it got Bulk Up. Max HP, Max SpD with Bulk Up would be nice. It actually has a Solid movepool, and it gets CC for those annoying Ferrothorn.

  5. I got my ass handed to me 3 times by Blue. That was absolutely ridiculous. 14 Revival Herbs and countless Potions down the drain…but at least I won.

      • These games can be seriously challenging, no joke. I think this is a good thing, though. It’s tough while also being lighthearted, as usual.

        • It’s much tougher than XY, which is absolutely a good thing. Gen 6 IMO presented zero challenge, which wasn’t fun at all after a while, so I’m glad to see that GF hasn’t given up on challenge in Pokemon games after all.

          • Same, I got hundreds of hours out if it but still didn’t feel like I got that “Pokemon” experience. I can’t say that’s true this time around. When I have to go back and challenge something multiple times to succeed, even if I’m angry, I’m still getting more out of it.

  6. I am dying right now. So, I caught a level 12 Butterfree in the wild, and it leveled up to 13. So, it had Gust, Confusion, Sleep Powder, and Mega Drain. I swept Hala’s entire team by making them sleep and then gusting them.

  7. Came to state they definitely stepped up their difficulty. Litten users probably are fine here, but holy crap the 6th trial is so hard. Im on my 3th loss, and running out of strats. Well played Pokemon Company

  8. Pokemon Sun and Moon sold a collective unit of 1.9 million copies in Japan during the first three days of release which is down a slight margin compared to X and Y’s total of 2 million. However, the sales figure for Sun and Moon do not include downloads. Thus, if we were to include downloads to the already massive 1.9 million copies, Sun and Moon sold MUCH more than X/Y. Wait for worldwide figures to come soon.

  9. Wow just found Grimsley on route 15. I love how they’re giving more screen time and more development to so many old characters, such as burnet and Anabel.

  10. At this rate I think I’ll find a shiny Magikarp/Wishiwashi before I find Corsola and Mareanie, but I’m honestly fine with that.
