Mascot Pokémon Showdown: Generation II

Today I’m bringing you a new Cover Pokémon Showdown. Perhaps rather unsurprisingly, Charizard won Generation One with 37% of the total votes!
Now it’s time to move onto Johto.

Generation II came out in 1999 in Japan and featured three games, namely Gold, Silver and Crystal. This generation introduced many new features such as Shiny Pokémon and the Dark and Steel type.

Pokémon Gold Versiongold_en_boxart

Pokémon Gold featured Ho-Oh, the Rainbow Pokémon. Ho-Oh is often named the “guardian of the skies”.

Ho-oh is a bird-like Pokémon which resembles a phoenix, leaving a beautiful rainbow behind when it flies. It has a mythical power to resurrect the dead, which can be seen in one of the episodes of Pokémon Generations.

Its signature move is Sacred Fire, a strong damage-dealing move. Ho-oh was the first Generation II Pokémon that was seen in the anime, which was a sign that the franchise would continue after Generation I. Its name comes from ‘Hōō‘ (鳳凰), the Chinese word for phoenix.

Pokémon Silver Version

silver_en_boxartPokémon Silver showed Lugia, the Diving Pokémon, on its cover. It is often referred to as the “guardian of the seas”. It’s also the trio master of the Legendary birds.

Lugia is a Pokémon that is able to control the weather, especially cause and stop storms. Because it knows it has that power, it hides itself underwater to prevent itself rising storms.

Its signature move is Aeroblast. Ho-oh and Lugia are the only Legendary mascot Pokémon that are not seen clashing with each other in the anime. Its name may come from ‘lutetium‘ (a silver element), ‘lugeo‘ (‘I lie dormant’ in Latin) or ‘luna‘ (‘moon’ in Latin).

Pokémon Crystal Version

Pokémon Crystal covered Suicune, the Aurora Pokémon. Suicune 500px-crystal_en_boxart
is the only Legendary beast to appear on a box art.

Suicune has the power to purify water with one touch. It travels the land searching for water to purify.

It is thought to be based on the Qilin, an Eastern legend that has traits of Chinese dragons, unicorns, deer and big cats. Its mane, however is said to resemble the northern aurora. Suicunes name is derived from ‘sui‘ (水, water) and ‘kun‘ (君, monarch).

  1. GF has a competition to design a completely new Pokémon, what would your Pokémon be based on, stat build(in its final form), ability, some of its movepool, etc.(whatever creative aspect you’d like to detail of your Pokémon)?

    • Grass/Psychic

Based on the Flatwoods Monster (look it up, it’s super spooky)

      Two staged

First stage is pure psychic type and is a floating ball with lifeless eyes, stubby arms and legs, and a spade like enclosure around it.

      Evolves at level 32

Evolution is basically just the flat woods monster. 7 feet tall with a red and black color scheme. The spade thing behind its head resembles a dark red leaf. It’s eyes are plain white with no pupils and its mouth is not usually unless it attacks. Opening its mouth releases a mist that makes the opponent uneasy.

It’s a physically defensive special attackervwith moderate speed and low ho and attack

It learns mostly special and status moves

    • Serathyl (Placeholder name lol)

      Dark/Ghost
      Ability: Prankster/Intimidate HA: Abyssal Heart
Abyssal Heart makes it so that dark moves are super effective to the Fairy type.

This Pokémon’s design would be based on a humanoid crow(kind of like a harpy or the ancient accounts of tengu)

This Pokémon would be a pseudo-legendary(Three staged, 1/30/50. Pure black feathers and dark grey talons. It’s shiny form would be a haunting pale green with black talons.

It would have high speed and attack, good defense and (slightly higher than def) S defense, but mediocre S attack and decent/okay health.

It would focus on physical attacks. It would have access to Flying moves as well since it’s pre-evolutions would be ghost/flying.

    • Pestelle

      Rock/Fire

Based off of a star and a pestele. It crushes things into powders and pastes in order to consume them easier and thus is incredibly powerful. According to myths, they crushed light and sprinkled them across the night skies. It’s rumored go come from meteorites due to being part of the same material. It’ll sometimes burn things first to make crushing them easier. It looks like a pestele with a thick turtle head on top and two flippers usually tucked in.

Rock Head as its Ability, Pure Power as its Hidden Ability

With a Fire Stone, it evolves into

      Cosmortar

      Rock/Fire

A mortar bowl made out of a splitted Meteor. It allows Pestelle to grind powders within them for high quality food for both parties, but if can also produce powder and pastes more inefficiently by burning things to ashes or by stomping on them repeatedly. Kinda looks like a mortar bowl crossed with a turtle. Their basin’s bottom is stained and due to the dark berries they consume and grind, and it looks like the night sky.

Has the normal ability Rock Head and the Hidden Ability ‘Fine Powder’, where the Pokémon’s powder attacks hit both opponents.

They learn powder moves, charging moves, volcanic moves, tremor based moves, and cosmic power as well as Meteor Mash.

  2. The fact that alolan forms were supposed to be like the new mechanic to build off of this gen and we got like 6 and one of them is in a goddamn wig…

  3. Something I’d like to see Pokémon do: Make a full(3 evos) female only fighting type and a full ( ^ ) male only fairy type. Those two are both in the extremes of masculinity and femininity. I’d like to see those two move away from those themes. Maybe one day. 😛

It seems Ash is getting his butt whupped 24/7 in Alola
Also That Bewear snapping trees like toothpicks

One final note I can’t decide if James will catch that Mimikyu or a Sandygast
They seem very likely and we all know Jessie will catch a Salandit

    • i rather they save those kinda things for special missions
      Like those Pokemovies

Like I had an idea for you investigating a series of jungle locations where trouble has occurred and its revealed that an Oranguru stole a bunch of trainer’s Pokeballs and somehow is using them (Moon exclusive)

And its counterpart is a squadron of Passimion are causing ruckus and you must fight 5 hordes of them

I want to see a series of weekly missions that take you around the island to solve problems

    • Alolan Seel line Water/Rock (maybe you could do something with seels and dewgongs had to break through rocks to navigate the alolan sea so its horn got bigger and stronger and it grew a rocky formation around it? )

      Reply
      • That wouldn’t work
The only one I kinda wanted to see was my Tropical Grass/Flying Vileplume
The tropical climate affected its petals making them larger then ever but thinner, and strong winds cause them to be blown into the sky and using their petals they can glide down, years of practice allow Alolan Vileplume to whisk themselves into the air to absorb more sunlight and spread their seeds and spores

        A simple logical idea

          • Well let’s take the region into question
Super warm waters on a Arctic faring marine Pokemon
            Does not mix
The most obvious is that they adjusted to warmer waters losing its ice type
But something like that why bother with a form
I dunno maybe they sprout additional legs to hunt on beaches

          • Water/Psychic. These Seel are strong swimmers due to their ability to manipulate the waves in their favor. Alola Seel and Dewgong create large waves because they like to watch people and Pokémon surf. Something like that? Migration could be a factor or they could literally just be cousins to regular Seel/Dewgong?

          • I don’t see why not. Pokemon doesn’t have to follow real world logic though I wish that Raichu’s was not so mysterious.

          • ITS NOT MYSTERIOUS ITS DOWNRIGHT LAZY
Like i said selective breeding in order to have Pikachu on the island causing brain growth because the brain is a pulsing wad of electrical meat

      • You should’ve gone for a Psychic/Grass Jynx
But even that makes trouble since I would see Jynx retreat to icy northern caves to avoid the heat…

But maybe Jynx had to endure hardships of the land and retreat to shady jungles where they communed with plant life developing a mental link
And the natives taught them dance moves I dunno too many factors

  5. Unpopular opinions about SuMo?

Alolan Dugtrio and Persian are perf
    Incineroar > Litten
The Fairy type amount is fine, they’re obviously trying to show its a common type and are playing catch up (will be annoyed if it carries on to Gen 8 tho)

  6. Alola Ryhorn the Volcanic Deity pokemon
    Fire/Ground
With an Ability that nullifies water dmg/causes burn on chance of contact since it’s too hot to handle. I’d like to see that happen. I’m surprised Rhydon didn’t get any love in Sun and Moon since it was the first ever Pokémon iirc.

  7. Sooooo……..unless it’s fake (which it could very well be) it sounds like a Gamestop has gotten a shipment of Sun and Moon and one of the employees is contemplating leaking ti….lol Could be fake as all they’ve posted was an edited shipping checklist, but still somehting to keep an eye on nonetheless. Here’s the page if anyone cares to watch it unfold lol

    • I used to work in electronics, there are a lot of stores that get early shipments although its usually not 2 weeks before the release. If he does take it and leak it though not only can he be fired (obv) but his store can lose the right to sell date marked games, plus a hefty fine, honestly not worth it for a game..

  8. Gen 4 gave us many cross gen evos: Rypherior, Magmortar, Togekiss etc.
Gen 6 gave us megas: Altaria, Salamence etc.
Gen 7 gave us new Kanto pokemon forms aka Alolans: Ninetales, Exggcutor etc.

I noticed that if a pokemon got cross gen evos, it did not get a mega or an alolan form. Same thing for Mega, if it got a ME it did not get a cross gen evo in gen 4 or an Alolan form.

Mega evolution=No Alolan form=No cross gen
Cross gen=No Alolan form=No mega evoultion
Alolan form=No mega evolution=No cross gen evo

    Except for Gallade

  9. I wonder if we will ever get another type. It seems mostly balanced now that I don’t think there will ever be a need. Which kinda sucks because I wanted a sound type and or a cosmic type

  10. Apparently that Giancarlo Parimango guy has an early copy. I don’t believe his shit tho. I don’t think he’s a mean person or anything, but he’s kind of annoying. He uploads videos that are incredibly click bait-y and at this point I don’t think I’d trust anything he actually says. I think what annoys me the most is him pretending like what he posts isn’t click bait. He likes to seem innocent. Again I don’t think he’s trying to be malicious, but it’s kind of dumb hahaha

  11. They just need to release the Pokedex so I can build my team. Of course they’ll change as I play and learn more about the Pokemon but I like to build teams and make sure they’re perfect. I feel two weeks before the game is released is good…

  12. Ok question time. Who here is crazy enough to start Sun & Moon by soft resetging for a shiny starter? I want a shiny Rowlet and my insanity as a shiny hunter is slowly pushing me into soft resetting for one @_@

  13. Anyone want to take a guess on Alolan Dugtrio’s type? It’s probably happened tons of times but now that we’ve had time to think about it

I still think Ground/Normal, Ground/Fairy if GameFreak is high. Doubt it won’t change type since every other Alolan has
