Mega Charizard Y looks like a dragon, Charizard still looks like a winged lizard.

Technically Noivern is supposed to be a wyvern and is a dragon. Aerodactyl is supposed to be a pteradactyl.

What’s so nice about that fake one is there is no anthropomorphism. Just a bigger cat like venusaur, torterra, feraligatr, etc were all just bigger versions of what came before. No “jobs” attributed to it, no discernible personality, no hair being added (that’s what gets me about popplios evo. It’s weird. Nothing to do with the gender though popplio never felt feminine to begin with tho not sure what traits in a cartoon seal could imply gender anyways beyond the obvious)

Yeah, for years the starters were fine just being animalistic, and then G5 came along and suddenly the rules changed. In fairness though I think Empoleon and maybe Infernape were the first to have a theme/job, everything prior to that was purely an animal/creature.
I agree about Popplio3, the hair comes out of nowhere. I still probably wouldn’t use it without the hair, but the hair is a bit odd. I’ll admit that I prefer it in that image where the hair is loose instead of held together with the hair accessory things.
This final form looks good as a starter if you give it the same height as Litten. Compared to Charizard this thing is pitiful.

That’s because the Japanese names of the starters were trademarked earlier, and they appear to be based on an owl, cat, and sea lion respectively by their names. Since then, lots of fan-art was created before the official reveal
