  1. What about their names, do you guys like them? I have mixed feelings about them. Torracat is kinda cute, but Dartrix is very weird. And Brionne sounds like a person’s name (probably a black girl in harlem).

    Reply
    • About the names, I would really love some etymology on them. Dartrix most likely comes from dart (throw darts, blow darts, ammo for crossbows) and tricks (rogues play tricks and use bows/crossbows). I have no idea what the torra in Torracat comes from and know even less about the origin of Brionne.

      Reply
    • Torracat is fine. Has a nice ring to it even though I don’t understand where the “torra” comes from…
Dartrix sounds edgier than it should be for an emo preteen owl
And brionne… Bless this poor child’s soul… At least it’s final evo is a bad ass mermaid

  2. That new Draco Meteor animation looks dope.

Also awkward moment where Protean Greninja will be way better than Ash Greninja. When GF don’t realise exactly what made Greninja so popular on the first place.

Also I don’t really care about any of the new features, and the starter evolutions don’t exactly fill me with joy. Looks like the leaks were right after all. If I had to guess I would say we are getting Grass/Flying, Fire and Water/Fairy for the starter final evolutions.

    • either Fire/Fighting or Fire/Dark
and i still pray that sea lioness is pure Water or even Water/psychic anything but Fairy

      Reply
      • I’m actually thinking the Fire Type will be Single Type since we’ve only ever had One Fire Type starter (Typhlosion) without a dual typing.

        Reply
          • i still don’t base everyone on looks alone, all of them have some kinda fairy correlation minus Azumarill because that never needed to be a fairy and now causes me unrelenting stress and misery

      • Water3 might be a complete Water-Type. Yet, I doubt that. It looks like a Water/Fairy to me. I don’t think it’s Water/Psychic at all.

    • I’m still confused on how everyone “knows” protean greninja will still be better. We have no idea how this form affects stats? It could very well boost greninja’s speed and att/so.att or defenses. It will potentially be able to outspeed any of greninja’s counters or survive any hits from its counters. I think it’s a bit early to be making that claim

      Reply
        • STAB Doesn’t help you much if it’s a glass cannon firing it. Greninja’s base defenses don’t really allow it much time in battle. All it has going for it is speed at that point. And since it can only have four moves it becomes easy to get around its stab hits. A little prediction here, a little planning there and boom.

Although I supposed I’m biased because I’ve personally never had any trouble dealing with protean greninja and therefore never saw why he was such a big deal

          Reply
          • The thing is by the time you’ve figured out the moveset, it’s already taken a chunk out of your team. Unpredictablilty is key factor in making Greninja so strong

      • If and only if they boost Greninja’s stats to the same amount as a Mega Evolution.

Do you know how strong gaining Stab on each move is.

Greninja would need 183 base Special Attack to do the same amount of Damage with Ice Beam and no Protean.

        Reply
        • Again, I’ve never had a problem dealing with protean Greninja so I just don’t get most people’s fuss over it. Stab on anything is cool, and unpredictability does play a part. But it’s only unpredictable to a degree. Greninja’s move pool doesn’t allow it to learn a damaging move of every type, and some of the more unpredictable type moves it can learn aren’t very good. Most players use ice beam as you’ve pointed out, scald for burn, acrobatics, and grass knot/rock slide/thief/dark pulse. Pretty predictable if you ask me…

          Reply
          • You forgot two common moves, Gunk Shot and Low Kick. Greninja has quite a big move pool and can be unpredictable if played right. It’s not supposed to sweep entire teams, but weaken checks to other Pokemon or clean up late.

Whether or not you’ve struggled with it or not, I have personally used and been on the receiving end of a well played Greninja, and can attest to its strength and unpredictability.

But fair enough if you’ve never had a problem with it. But the point about Protean Greninja being better than Ash Greninja still stands.

    • I’m pretty certain it’s Grass/Flying, Fire/Dark, and Water/Fairy. Litten3’s leaked concept art talks about it fighting dirty.

      Reply
      • and that’s what i likes about it
i need a warrior who’ll fight to his last breath and do whatever it takes to win

also the belt omfg i love the belt of fire it just works so well for it

        Reply
      • Fair enough. It could be. But I mean we’ve only had 2 Generations where all starters had a dual Type (4 and 6) and never 2 generations in a row.

Probably shouldn’t be looking for a pattern, but it’s just a feeling I have that at least One of them will be Single Type.

        Reply
    • Hey, on the bright side, they could possibly have more than one evo… I’m not crazy about the idea of version evolutions but it gives me hope that I can get something aside from El Tigre

      Reply
  3. I hope they give us the ability to use HA capsules, for once I’d like to keep the first Pokemon I got and use it for online battles and max its Ivs

    Reply
    • Might be nice, but it’s almost pointless too since we have the bottlecaps and you can just breed a pokemon with that hidden ability really quickly. I feel like there’s got to be another way to get HA pokemon this gen though. Gen 6 had hordes and the friend safari so I bet there will be some new method in these games. Hordes will likely return though but horde pokemon are limited

      Reply
      • i still can’t believe everyone is so lenient with Bottlecaps
thinking that they’ll just be able to fork over a handful (which they think will be easy collectibles) and just magically waltz in and make their pokemon perfect on the spot

my theory is they’re mondo expensive and hard to get, like a ton of BP or FC for one silver and even more for gold which might be only exclusive to rare events
And don’t forget you still gotta breed the right natures and moves and ability and get them to 100 to even use the service

        Reply
        • Ive said a bunch of times that I doubt they’re easy to get. But that doesnt change the fact that there is still probably going to be an infinite number of them available to you as long as you have the time and effort to get them. Natures, moves, abilities is so easy though, especially if you have a living dex.

          Reply
        • So long as the option is there, then it’s fine. I’d rather spend time working to improve my pokemon rather than just throwing it away for a master race version. The HA and nature thing still bother me, but hopefully we won’t have another greninja case where the HA is mandatory.

At the very least, it’ll add hours to my game, which I love. Maxed out the timer in XY and had over 800 in BW1.

          Reply
    • Popplio is just forever derpy, even the mermaid is awkward-looking to me because (assuming the mermaid evo is real), the artists insist on having them all stand on their tail at some point. I know performance seals actually do this, but it’s still weird looking.

  4. The video was going well until the mega evolutions…

I like the stage 2 forms of all the starters, but Dartrix and Torracat don’t look like they match the leaked stage 3 evolutions, only Brionne does. At this rate I’m thinking that whatever I pick I’ll stop it evolving into its 3rd form.

I love the Festival Plaza and Pokepelago.
Probably two of my favourite features.
I like them more than Z moves, the Ultra Beasts and possibly Skull and Aether.

Kind of disappointed at mega evolution returning.

Ash-Greninja is going to be annoying, hopefully people will forget about it by next generation.

    Reply
    • Seriously.. Ash Greninja is the worst thing to ever happen to an actual Pokémon game. Specially since it’s named that way. Losing Protean might make it viable in Smogon’s OU again.. if that’s worth anything.

I love Pokepelago, and having 6 different Battle Boxes!! Page said you could even assign one PKMN to different boxes. I like having several teams ready to brawl and this is great!!! Also, rental QR codes.. so much stuff in this games.

      Reply
      • Yeah, if they’d called it “Bond Greninja” or something I’d be less annoyed, but I don’t like them tying the anime that closely to the game.
I don’t use Showdown/Smogon much, except for smogon’s articles about how the battle mechanics work, but that’s mainly because they interest me as a programmer.

Yeah, Pokepelago is definately the most positive thing to happen in the last few weeks.
I love having nice relatively easy ways of getting evo stones.
Multiple Battle Boxes will make things much easier.

It kind of feels wrong that I’m more excited about the minigame stuff and the locations than I am about the story, region forms and Z moves.

        Reply
        • Well, the small “fixes” to these games are always one of my favorite things. The rest tends to be just hype.. like Mega evolutions.

          Reply
          • Yeah, for example I’m genuinely going to miss gyms.
I’m willing to give the trials a chance, but I’m expecting to be wanting gyms back by the end of it.

The main story is usually over pretty quickly anyway, after that it’s the minigames and side stuff that’s going to keep people going.
Besides, the more diversions from the main plot that are available, the longer the main story will last.

Part of me wishes they’d lock some of the story off until a fixed amount of time elapses or the player’s team has an average of a certain level to force the player to slow down a bit and enjoy the scenery. Speedrunners would complain though.

          • Yes, most likely, I’ll feel the same about Gyms. But still, after the surprise in Mt Silver, must challenges have paled in comparison ever since. It’s hard to have a build-up for every character (like with Cynthia)..
I think it’s more about impact than amount of time.. which isn’t bad either, and yours isn’t a bad idea.

  5. Every fire/fighting starter has aquaried their fighting traits in their second stage. So with this in mind, hopefully litten3 won’t be a fighting type after all!

    Reply
    • Hopefully. But what if it’s just a cruel trick on GAMEFREAKs part ( like before starter finals were leaked) where they raise your hopes then cut them down… a bit sceptical but as a fire starter lover ( I love torchic, chimchar, tepig, fennekin, Litten) and seeing the mess that tepig fennekin and litten turn into really gets my goat…

  6. Now that we have the second evolutions of the starters I’m curious to know what everyone’s teams are now? Here are mine:

    Oricorio (Sensu Style)
    Crabrawler
    Jangmo-O

    Sun 2 (Aurora):

    Moon (Jeff):
    Dartrix

    • Rowlet
Rockruff (Midnight or Midday, haven’t decided yet. I’m playing Moon, but may trade just to evolve)
      Salandit
Water type that hasn’t been revealed yet (The ones so far I don’t really care for unless their evolutions change my mind)
      Altaria
And then an Alola form, but I wanna see the full selection before I decide. As of right now it’d be A-Ninetales.

    • Moon:
-Torracat (as long as the final evo is not Fire/Fighting)
      -Mimikyu
      -Wishiwashi
      -Vikavolt
      -empty (Alola)
      -empty

      Sun:
      -Brionne
      -empty
      -empty
      -empty
      -empty

I am quite indecisive with Pokémon this generation because I like nearly all of them so I don’t really want to commit.

      Reply
    • Popplio, Comfey, Salandit, Vikavolt, Jangmo-o, and one of the Oricorios. Probably ghost. I really wanted to use Bruxish, but as time went on, I began to realize that it was probably gonna just be a mid-tier, niche one trick pony.

    • I don’t think they look that different. The fluff of feathers under it’s orange bow tie makes it look like a Tuxedo shirt, and I feel like Dartrix is meant to symbolize a Butler or something along those lines. Dartrix’s “hair” could be what becomes the hood, and you can see that they both store their sharp feathers (Darts and arrows) on their wing the same exact way. Also just remember Dewott to Samurott and they won’t seem so different anymore.

          • I “think” they can just let whole Eevee evolves with different evolution methods thing go and give it a chance to evolve with leaf stone and ice stone. Afterall, ice rock and leaf rock are just like huge evolution stones that contains enormous amount of energy to evolve Eevee. I’m also for Eevee evolving into Espeon and Umbreon via Sun and Moon stone. Dawn and Dusk stone could also work namewise but not logicwise since dawn stone is exclusive for gender evolutions and got japanese name “awakening”. Morever, Eevee into Sylveon with shiny stone could also work. I kinda want these because it simplifies things a bit.

But I don’t see all of these happening.

And I also think they have to keep location based evolutions since we have “magnetic field” evolutions unless they choose to simplify it too.

          • Pretty much waht I said further up lol

They could change the magnetic field rules to make the pokemon level up whilst holding the ‘magnet’ item or something. There are loads of items that hardly ever get used that would make good evolution items.
