RUMOR: CoroCoro to Reveal Alolan Arbok?

PLEASE REMEMBER: Rumors are for discussion and should be considered false until official information confirms their contents. They are posted for discussion and enjoyment purposes only 🙂

An anonymous poster on 2ch claims to have seen the October issue of CoroCoro, a Japanese comic magazine, and says that the latest issue shows Alolan Ekans and Arbok. They’ve given a few details about it and here are the translations:

  • Alolan Ekans & Arbok are Fighting-type
  • Their abilities are Fighter Skin, which makes Normal-type moves Fighting and increases their power by 30% (ala Pixilate, etc), and Shed Skin
  • Alolan Arbok is light brown and bigger in size than its normal counterpart, but lacks any pattern on its body
  • It is a Pokémon Sun exclusive and the CoroCoro issue also reveals that Alolan Sandslash is a Moon exclusive

UPDATE:

Adding in other rumors from 2ch, newest rumors will be added to the bottom. The Alolan Electabuzz & Magmar rumor was preceded by a typo so I think I consider this much shakier than the above Arbok rumor. It would also leave questions regarding their evolutions as well.

  • Alolan Electabuzz revealed, new form looks similar to the pudgy Shinto god Ebisu
  • Brought electricity to Alola and is seen as a guardian-type figure
  • Electric/Fairy-type
  • Has the abilities Friend Guard/Healer
  • Alolan Magmar
  • It walks on all fours and is covered in vines; covered itself in vegetation as a way to survive in the jungles of Alola
  • Fire/Grass-type
  • New ability that reduces the effectiveness of its opponents attack when it switches to a teammate in battle (teammate will take less damage when it switches in)

Furthermore, one of the posters has promised to post pictures of the issue tomorrow at 7PM Japan Standard Time. Hopefully they’re telling the truth 😉

    • ”Looks similar to the pudgy Shinto God Ebisu” and it brought electricity to Alola, which would make it being revered as mythical creature by Alolans and give it Fairy magic, like with Ninetales.

    • Ice Ninetales and vulpix have sense due to their inspiration in real life, arctic foxes.

Fighting Arbok would be innovative and seems like a bunch of creativity thrown to the table, but I really hope the game designers take ideas like these with some moderation. There’s no need to complete the alolan pokedex with a massive bunch of alolan variants. I rather would have gotten interseasonal alolan variants (gen 2, 3, 4…)

Even so, those rumours sounds way more fake. The electabuzz part is confusing for me. As it has been said already, why would we want another fairy electric pokemon which is felt to be a guardian -like Tapu Koko, which already is a guardian? In case it happens this way they should be somehow related by area or role.

At this point the game has gone so crazy, so innovative and magnificent in comparison with other games that we should expect anything, even “too creative” fails, or complex details that need to be understood in their respective contexts -and when, outside of them, seem like a mess.

    • A fighting snake makes absolutely no sense. But the bringing electricity to Alola and being praised sorta does. I don’t think Fairy is the right type for that though.

    • Maybe the fighting Snake came from the Chinese martial arts. There are fighting styles that were based from animals and I know they definitely have one based on the movements of a snake. I mean, they even have it on Kung Fu Panda.

  1. Kinda hope arbok and ekans aren’t in this game, mostly because Hawaii doesn’t have snakes (except for one that’s basically a black worm)

  3. Has anybody noticed, that the protagonist from the upcoming Sun and Moon manga series looks very similar to the one from Gale of Darkness?

  4. Hate the type. would’ve loved if it stayed poison or at the very least poison fighting. I hope we finally we get alternative form Arbok it’s pokedex hinted at that years ago!

  5. This is a load of TAUROS
Why would they need Electricity when they have so many bloody Electric Types
Also Magmar live in effing volcanoes they would never venture far from a ultra-heated habitat otherwise it would just burn its way through a jungle

The only one that doesn’t sound completely stupid is the Arbok idea, but not Arbok itself I can easily see a agile and very powerful Snake Fighting type ala snake style Kung fu

  6. What!? This is so fake. nothing in this makes any sense. A Fighting Arbok!? How? Also Fire/Grass Magmar isn’t even possible as well.

  7. That tears it I am determined to create a Snake Fighters type
    Comboa or Skirmamba
    The Striking Pokemon
A long slender Serpentine Pokemon with a glossy brown red coloration with specks of black, at the very end of its pointy tail are several bands of skin that when it curls its tail allow it to jab and “punch” opponents, its face is thin with a similar band of skin on its face stretching out from its nose to the top of its head that streams off resembling a headband with tassels

lacking poisonous fangs or venom in order to protect itself it whips its prey with its prehensile tail and strikes with its face, it overwhelms opponents with mind boggling agility

      • I kinda agree with Doctor tho… Going from a fire magby to a fire/grass magmar back to a fire magmortar would be both nonsensical and kind of a letdown when you get to a regular magmortar.

      • The implication is that we’ve seen non-alola pokemon evolve into alola forms, but not the other way around. An alola Magmar will most likely not evolve into an Alola Magmortar because Magmortar is not Gen 1.

  8. I only hope that alolan electabuzz (if true) looks good and not all roundy and retarded looking like the alolan raichu…I still cant belive this thing exists

  9. I don’t get why everyone says that Alolan forms are Gen 1 exclusives. Nothing’s confirmed. All there is, is a pattern. It’s the same mentality as “Stone evolutions won’t be getting Megas herp derp” and look what happened, Mega Gallade came along and ripped that theory to shreds.

Also, not that I believe these leaks, but nothing about these type changes make “no sense”. If they can give us an Electric/Psychic Raichu and have “eating too much pancakes” as a reason for its existence, we can have an Electric/Fairy Electabuzz.

    • Oh please they only gave Mega Gallade to that walking green stick differentiate from Diantha’s Mega Gardevoir
The demographic was getting repetitive since we already had a Gardevoir mega user in XY and everyone knows Wally uses Gardevoir prior to Gallade so not to overuse it they cranked out a Mega Gallade just to avoid reusing M Gardevoir
      Plain and simple

      • Still debunks the “Stone evolutions = no megas” theory and the sole existence of Mega Gallade means that nothing’s stopping them from making more Mega forms of stone evolved Pokemon.

          • See, this is what I don’t get. Facts are right in front of you and you still deny. But whatever. If you really think that they’d go against this so called, set on stone “Stone evo = no Mega” rule just to differentiate Wally from Diantha then by all means, you do you.
