New Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon Trailers [SEP 6]

As announced last week today we’ve been treated to a megaton of new information for Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon! An all-new trailer has been released showcasing new Pokémon, Ultra Beasts, new mechanics and even more.

In addition to the English trailer, a Japanese trailer has been released containing some slightly different footage, though shares the same information.

New Information

  • Ultra Beasts are revealed and don’t appear to be Pokémon as we know them
  • Type: Null is a Normal-type Pokémon that has the ability Battle Armour. Type: Null is a synethtic Pokémon that was created to synthesize the strengths of various Pokémon, meaning it can adapt to any situation. The Pokémon’s mask is used to control it’s powers and also slows the Pokémon down
  • Jangmo-o is a new Dragon-type Pokémon with the ability Bulletproof/Soundproof
  • Alolan Raticate are Dark/Normal-type with Gluttony/Hustle for their ability
  • Pokémon Sun & Moon are set 12 hours apart from one another, meaning certain events in the games will play out differently
  • The Aether Foundation are a new group in Sun & Moon
  • Lusamine is President of the foundation, Faba is a Branch Chief and Wicke is an Assistant Branch Chief
  • Gladion is Team Skull’s Enforcer
  • The Zygarde Cube is an item given to players that allows you them collect Zygarde Cores and Cells across the Alola region
  • Poké Finder allows you to take photos of Pokémon using your Rotom Pokédex
  • UB-01 is an Ultra Beast

That’s all that has been officially revealed in the trailers, though we invite our readers to discuss and speculate in our comment section below!

  1. I cannot wait for these games! So many different things are going on that it’s all very hard to comprehend anything! From the Aether Foundation which sounds like a faction of scientology, Ultra Beasts, to X/Y characters returning, these games, from what I’ve seen look to be the most interesting, innovative, and greatest Pokemon games to date!

      • The capacity, volume, and depth of the story, characters, and how they can intertwine every aspect of what makes Pokemon a truly revolutionary franchise into Sun and Moon is mind boggling. The potential is there, now we await for the execution and man… these games seem to be showstoppers!

        • Then again we thought the same thing about XY until we actually played them and the were completely different than they were advertised.

          Reply
          • But the only thing X/Y had going in for them were, “First 3DS games” and “Mega-Evolution.” The story never really had anywhere to go from the start because all of the focus was on making sure the transition was smooth and executed to perfection. But yes, there’s always that option, but I would much rather not think about it. 😛

          • I agree. I dont want to get my hopes up too high but it’s hard considering what we know. These news drops are not only revealing new pokemon, but often a new feature as well.

      • It’s gonna be up there for me, but nothing is gonna beat RSE for me, too much memories. Also it won’t beat ORAS, too many relived memories.

  2. Plot twist, Mr. Fuji is over the Aether Foundation and he’s been taking in orphaned Pokémon to create an ultimate Pokémon Weapon to destroy the world so no Pokémon will ever been orphaned again.

  3. Best theories I’ve seen all day:
    – Lillie is actually a Pokemon or better yet, an Ultra Beast created by experimenting on Lusamine’s daughter
    – The Aether Foundation’s goal is to bring Pokemon back to their original way of life walking alongside humans as equals
    – Team Skull will become or are already the good guys

  4. PUNCTUATION! YOU GET PUNCTUATION, AND YOU GET PUNCTUATION, AND EVERYBODY GETS PUNCTUATION!! Ok, here are my thoughts, I’m ready to type until my fingers ache but I hope it isnt that long.

The 12 hours thing is so cool! That means it’ll likely be evening when I play sun, and dawn in moon. This has me so hyped. I’m calling it now, Aether foundation are evil. I also love the idea that you aren’t some 10 year old taking down an organized crime group, you actually have help this time. Jangmo-o is wierd, I mean it’s ok, but nothing special IMO. Now Type: Null is literally my favorite gen 7 pokemon hands down. Hopefully it can breed or you can catch one before post game. I want that thing so bad. Cutiefly evo looks exactly like I expected it too, no real surprise there. Also I’m really glad Sina and Dexio are back. I really think they had potential to be memorable characters, and now they get a second chance. Maybe they take is back to Kalos? The pokemon snap thing is really cool, since I’ve never actually gotten to play snap. So the ultra beast things are wierd, but I like them. I never thought I’d have to ask this regarding a pokemon game, but are they pokemon at all? I mean I’d assume they are if mewtwo is considered one. A follow up question: will we be able to catch them? I hope they are really tough to beat. Here’s a crazy thought: what if, since we don’t have a traditional league, they take place of the elite four? Maybe we have to take them down after we beat Team Skull (and aether foundation lol). What a news drop, this has me so hyped for the games. If the games are really as content packed as they seem, these may be the best games yet.

  5. So do you guys think that we can breed type: null? I hope it isn’t just a post game thing, I really want to use one; it’s the best gen 7 pokemon yet IMO.

    • I could see being able to breed it and have the offspring be without the helmet thing that it’s creators put on it. That way you can have both versions without having Type Null need a form change or whatever. Maybe the Offspring even has a normal name rather than being named Type Null

    • I know right? For the first time going into the games I’m still going to be guessing what could happen! lol In all the other games (even BW to an extent) It’s been pretty obvious what you need to do and what the bad guys are gonna do, but this time the story seems WAY more complex and has way more characters involved. I could see the story of these games being longer than the typical Pokemon game. Maybe not by much, but it’ll definitely be more intricate.

        • I’d be willing to bet these will be the best Pokemon games to date. BW had a good story, but the fact that Team Plasma was so fickle with it’s ideals made me feel like it was almost half baked to some degree. It’s almost like GF wanted people to think about how enslaving animals and making them battle were wrong, but then remembered that that’s basically what the series is about and had to clean up their tracks to make you feel better about how….well you’re enslaving animals and making them fight lol

  6. I wonder what Jangmo-o Will evolve into? since it’s dex reads: Jangmo-o has the pride of a warrior, although it remains humble about its capabilities. In its pursuit to become stronger, it never neglects its training. Because Jangmo-o uses the scales on its head for both offense and defense, it never turns its back to its enemies. Many Trainers see this behavior and take it as proof that Jangmo-o is a valiant Pokémon. Jangmo-o gather in harsh locales like canyons, where no other people or Pokémon are around, to live together as they train.

  7. Two more things I noticed: I wonder if Aether Paradise will act as a safari zone type thing? I mean, they said that they host pokemon team skull are after. And Gladion is more important and significant than Guzma. He has a full 3D pre battle animation, while Guzma has one like the NPCs do. I dont remember who said it, but I really like the theory of Team Skull becoming the good guys.

  8. It’s interesting that these new creatures have more story focus than Solgaleo and Lunala. I wonder what those two even have to do with it lol

    • Solgaleo reminds me of Aether, and Lunala reminds me of Skull, outside of that they don’t seem related, outside of that a bigger question ,how is Zygarde related

  9. I don’t think Lillie is UB-01.
I think Lillie looks after UB-01 and it changed its appearance to look like her because it got to like her (it’s a molten-glass-like shapeshifter after all).
And UB-01 is the secret in Lillie’s bag.

    Reply
      • Specifically it says “UB-01’s body is composed of a glass-like substance. However, it’s constantly changing shapes, never settling on one.”

So the jellyfish deal isn’t even its final form.

so, now give me a cool water & fire pokemon, I like turtonator but I’m waiting for something even cooler. Alolan Nidos!!

  11. After reading through some Youtube comments, people think that Lillie is a Pokemon. I’m quite sure that UB-01 is just taking her shape as it’s a shape-shifting Pokemon. I think the Pokemon in her bag was UB-01 or another Ultra Beast, the cries are rather similar. Also, I do think Aether Foundation is just a bunch of good guys doing good. It would be an obvious story cliche if their evil. Lastly, I’m heavily leaning towards Moon now. In all honestly, I like the idea of Alolan Raticate being the Totem Pokemon and the idea of it being night during the day. It mostly depends on version exclusive Pokemon, yet I’m loving Moon.

  12. OK!!! I just listened to the GameXplain discussion with Serebii……still hate listening to him talk, but they talked about something interesting. During the Tree house live demo at E3 they showed the the game at sunset despite it being morning for them in real life. That means the game they were playing was Moon!! Idk…was a coll little thing they pointed out lol

  13. I seriously hope Type: Null gets a Form Change.

Battle Armour works as an ability Flavourwise for the current form.
But I’m hoping a form without the helmet exists with Protean as its ability.

  14. I’ve started a Disqus channel for gathering facts and evidence about the games.

I’m slowly building up a list of pokemon spotted in the overworld, a list of pokemon spotted in battle and an in depth breakdown of the map.
