Watch Final Day of Pokémon World Championships

Today is the day. Not only will we have a new Pokémon Champion, but we can also keep our eyes peeled for any new Pokémon Sun & Moon announcements at the closing ceremony! We’ve pretty much debunked the “rainbow Greninja” rumor, but it’s finally time to put it to rest! Watch below:

  1. Ash gets crucified for losing the League, Alain betrays him, Serena is on a helicopter with Steven, Diantha is getting involved, Korrina is coming back, our little Puni-chan goes to the dark side, Clemont is battling Xerosic, and Lysandre has gone mad. Okay, you got me hooked.

  2. I’m gonna post my request again, because all I got last time was some crap about how bad Ledian is from Earthen.

Can anyone spare a FEMALE Ledyba/Ledian from a region that’s not the US (For Masuda Method)?

  3. Sweet! I just caught a hidden ability shiny dwebble (I named it limestone because its gunna turn green). I have a question for my fellow shiny hunters out there (or just in general) what was your very first shiny pokemon ever caught? (not the ones basically given to you in game) mine was Cofagrigus in BW 😀

  4. Non-pokemon related: Hate it when you’re playing an MMO, and your guild has a raid planned and the raid leader cancels it at the last minute…

  5. Im not sure what you are all upset about, literally like every team is going to be pretty much the same (aka legends, primals and M Kanga) thats pretty much what worlds is, no one there has originality to their teams, thats pretty much competitive in a nutshell really

  6. Is the World Championships just full of Legendaries and OP Megas again? Honestly, I wish they would ban the most used Pokemon to allow people to use other non-legendary Pokemon. It’s boring to watch who’s uber Pokemon are the most fastest.

  7. LOL at the kid who just basically said what we’re all thinking about the teams, ironically his team fit the stereotype, smh, but good for you kid, enjoy your victory (choose different pokemon next time)

    Reply
      • ??? no I mean like the kid literally said that he doesn’t like the fact that everyone always uses the same pokemon, and said he wanted to counter the ones everyone uses, but he used the same ones as everyone else, so…? Im not saying he doesn’t want to win I’m just saying its a little off to say one thing and do the opposite?

        • That was a response to your comment in brackets. About using different Pokemon next time.

Honestly it depends on the rules and which Pokemon are allowed but I can’t blame people for using the best out of what’s allowed…it’s a competition and they all want to win.

          • I just hope the limit the useable Pokemon next year. That’s they only way to make it interesting. Get people to think.

          • …. I think you misunderstood my comment 100%… Im pretty much saying that if he wanted to achieve his goal he should have picked different pokemon. It has nothing to do with winning, I understand everyone wants to win

          • And I’m saying my comment was only a response to what you said in brackets at the end of your comment.

            Forget it, doesn’t matter.

      • If memory serves right, its an invitational based on a point system. These points are earned though competing at regional and national competitions, as well as how you perform in the VGC mode of online play.

So basically if you do well enough at regional’s or online, you can go to nationals, where if you do well enough there you can go to worlds.

  9. Here’s some tidbits about Battle Royal that was explained at Gamescom this year, it’s a short list but it’s neat none the less.
    – The winner is determined by the number of Pokemon defeated by each player and how many they have left.
    – One gold star marks one defeated Pokemon.
    – If it’s a draw, the remaining HP of the remaining Pokemon determines the winner.

  10. What is this BS about the Kalos League bringing back the BW writers and them wanting to replace Ash but decided not too due to time restraints?
Maybe it’s right, but sounds like a load of fooey, ppl will believe Anything.

  11. Im really surprised that more people don’t use Mega Altaria, its my personal MVP and its crazy strong, I was sure id see one at worlds but I guess I was wrong, since its all Kanga all the time (it is pretty much the most OP mega I guess)

    • It’s a good mon, but 80 base speed is what kills it for VGC. It’s slower then the primals, but its faster then most trickroom runners.

      Reply
      • Its fast enough for me personally, I will never use a primal (but I know most do) and I don’t use it in a trick room setting, it doesnt get taken down easily and if you are in a tight spot Stab hyper beam can kill pretty much anything, although I have Hyper voice on mine instead

        • Like I said, it is good. There’s no question that its a solid mega pokemon, but really it doesn’t have a leg to stand on when placed against any of the top six mons. Then again I’m the guy who runs an Empoleon on my team to troll dual primal players, especially when their clearly hackers and don’t’ fully understand what a good move pool is for them.

    • He won seniors. I didn’t catch his full team, but basically he’s the number 1 player in his age bracket. The final match is the masters, which is basically the adult players, who are considered to be the best players in the world.

  12. There needs to be a 1 Legend Minimum.. if that. Plus I personally find Single battles way more interesting. I understand they are longer but they make the vgc players battle each other over n over right? What if in singles.. you win or lose first battle with someone.. then move on. Much more entertaining!

    Reply
    • Singles is currently broken right now is kind of broken with stealth rocks though. Also having it best of three prevents the game from being reduced to who got the luckier rolls.

Also the legendary pokemon addition was made due to the criticism that 2015 was too samey with everyone using the same team, so the idea was to shake things up with it. As you can see that backfired a bit.

      Reply
      • Yeah. .. clearly it changed nothing.
But I really don’t see how stealth rocks breaks a thing. It’s one threat that people will undoubtedly prepare for.
Also Luck is apart of Any Battle. No matter what it will help determine the winner and that’s ok. It’s also Far more interesting than a 3peat if u ask me.
If you lose.. then come back again next year.
Making a more consistent team that can win first go is what I aim for.

        • Stealth rocks is kind of broken in the sense that pretty much every team is built around it. You can use mons that are weak to rock as they take too much damage, you need to have a rapid spinner which means if is 3v3 you instantly know a pokemon that will always be used, and then most strats amount to use trying to force your opponent to switch out until the rocks kill them. That’s not really fun or fair.

Also that really doesn’t work well when you think about that. In any sports competition you tend to play a season with the teams with the best score after playing so many games going to the playoffs and then making that single elimination. Its the same case here. You can win 2 games during the swiss rounds that are best of three, but once you get to the top 8 its single elimination from best of three.

having it be a single game would certainly make it faster, but can you really feel that anyone would call it a good game if someone won because they won with a lucky crit or something like that? People would be pissed.

          • Well I actually was going to say.. it should be 6v6 and and until semi finals or finals.. it would be 2 battles.
Also to say that rock weak pokemon would be at a disadvantage and you would definitely already know 1 pokemon someone is using.. sounds exactly like vgc.
Everyone is using Primal Groudon, and we can say any pokemon weak to its typings are at a disadvantage.
Making Full Teams would force variety and more planning.
Vgc.. where 2 Can be legends.. means 2 Will be legends.. and groudon one of them.. the other predictable.. and the last 2 pokemon often Smeargle and Mega Khang
So it really evens out in that sense..
6v6 would have no more flaws than vgc
            And more variety

      • Exactly what I was going to say. . If people can’t handle stealth rocks.. or there not being the typical 3 in a row battles.. don’t join it! Aka can’t take the heat? Stay out of the kitchen.

    • Singles would be even worse for dealing with legends. At least doubles gives you a chance against them with two Pokemon.

In singles, once Rayquaza sets up….it’s GG.

Notice how set up moves are incredibly rare on doubles.

      Reply
        • That’s bound to happen. It’s just up to the rulings to change that. .. or not.
I just think Singles is Way more interesting personally.. therefore it should be an option for those like me who prefer it.. and aren’t afraid of facing different threats than the vgc has.

          Reply
          • Fair enough. Personally I just don’t think it’s practical on the big stage.

I also prefer playing singles over doubles, but when it comes to watching I’d prefer doubles.

      • If it makes it worse for dealing with legends. . . Then only 1 Legend per team for this division. Plus if someone is so afraid of a setup Rayquaza then they can prep for it… Like everyone preps for primal groudon. Or it can be not legal for this division.

        • I think the Uber legends shouldn’t even be allowed. They usually aren’t. They just changed it up this year cos no new games came out so it woud have been the same as last year.

Buy having too many different divisions is also impractical in my opinion. They are very limited on time at Worlds. Only a single 2 day weekend.

  14. I had my suspicions but I feel like after watching Wolfe win.. Alolan Raichu will Definitely be competitive! It’s amazing how much I like it now, and need one, compared to when I first saw it.
He seems like a pretty cool guy.
I like how he said what he learned most was that you have to play the game as is.. sure you want it to be more diverse.. and use unique teams.. but you went there to WIN.. so that’s not always possible.
I think Raichu and Hitmontop were pretty cool choices tho

  16. Well everyone, I’m off to college tomorrow for my senior year! I’ll still be on occasionally but my schedule is always crazy busy during the year. Come November, I don’t plan on being on at all so I can protect myself from any leaks.

I’ve been around for a few years but this summer was when I actually created an account. It was a mistake to not make one sooner. I want to thank all of you for the fun conversations I had on this site. I really loved speculating and discussing leaks/ reveals. This really was a fun summer with you all!

Thanks and keep being an awesome, welcoming community! I can’t wait to come back!

    Happy fall, everyone!

  17. I know I just said my goodbyes, but I have to say that from a creator’s standpoint, it must be so cool to have people so obsessed with what you made. Not only that, but these people are playing with the characters you either created, designed, marketed, etc. depending on who you are on the team! So neat!!!

Hey guys i promise you this is my last comment as guest but ive noticed that lately vgc championsips have been in californi, so could this be hinting towards a california based region sort of how hawaii being used multiple times as the host of the championships hinted to alola or am i just overthinking things?
