Although the official new trailers are expected tomorrow, someone it seems has gotten their hands on an early version of the video and leaked some of its contents.
- Pyukumuku is the English name for Namakobushi and is a pure Water-type with the ability Innards Out
- Alolan Raichu is now Electric/Psychic with the ability Surge Surfer which doubles its speed on Electric Terrain
- Morelull is a new Grass/Fairy-type Pokémon with the abilities Illuminate & Effect Spore
- Team Skull keeps its name from the Japanese versions and is led by Guzma, with Plumeria being a Team Admin.
- Alolan Meowth is a Dark-type with the abilities Pick-up & Technician
- Wishiwashi is the English name for Yowashi and its new ability is Schooling which activates when something reaches a certain level (HP? Stats?)
- Alolan Marowak is now Fire/Ghost-type and has the abilities Lightning Rod & Cursed Body

Ok ok… Crazy theory.. Remember the manga special that got announced, what if that boy is a young Guzma and he competed in the trials. The both have goggles and similar hood in the back. And maybe his rival at that age was Kukui
Want to know more about Guzma, strikes me as someone with an interesting back story.
I’m surprised people are surprised about the amount of fairies, it’s like one of the rarest types rn and only came out last Gen, so it needs to play catch up.
Also, Hawaii is really a spiritual place to draw concepts from, so ghost and fairy are really appropriate types to pick from.
People are more concerned with the fact they they just tend to tack Fairy onto anything. If there is a legit reason for something to be Fairy, I don’t thinks anyone would mind.
There’s playing catch-up and then they’re forcing it down our throats.
Personally I think GF can do whatever they please.
There are more Fairy types than both Ghost and Ice. Ghost and Ice have been around since Gen 1. This is a problem.
Ghosts are often associated with Darkness and Ice Types seem very biome dependent, hence why there’s less.

That’s still pretty rare, especially since Fairy looks like its going to be a Electric, Grass, etc level rarity seeing as it’s being given to a wide variety of Pokémon strength and availability wise.
grass isn’t rare, Id go more fire level, we actually have very few fire pokemon compared to some of the other big types
Yeah I do think it could end up Fire level rare, its just that so far they’re really easy to find, in XY and ORAS you find your first Fairy before the first Gym and it’s seemingly already a starter type 1 Gen after introduction.
It won’t be 3rd rarest after factoring in all the new Alolan additions though.
Besides, something has to be rarest unless they’re all perfectly balanced.

Tbh its supposed ‘rarity’ never bothered me. Fairies and Dragons (and to a lesser extent Ghosts) are mythical, they’re supposed to be rare.
Besides which, there’s still a decent number of fairies available, the only thing Fairy is lacking is a few type combinations like Fairy/Fire. Fairy/Grass, Fairy/Water and Fairy/Electric are all already available.

Well it seems like the Chinese leak has certainly proven themselves to be true on their word.

They completely abandoned grass type in this generation. They all so far look competitive useless and generic, like they’re there just to fill in the dex. And with a grass starter grass/flying (aka death sentence) grass lovers are screwed.

I have been feeling the same way about them as well. It’s making it very hard to choose a grass Pokemon to add to my team. I might just actually choose something else.

It trended on Twitter and Facebook for days, with it actually reaching the top spot on Facebook and the Japanese trailer received more than 2 million views during its first 24 hours of release.

I was so excited for this game but every leak/trailer they keep desapointing me with these terrible designs…I know that most fans now days only care about the typing and they will accept anything as long as it has a good types, but these looks very bad, I feel like its a reboot for the franchise, a bad one too, the new pokemon are way too cute to fit in with the others…now raichu is even cuter than pichu…god this is awfull.
I like them personally, and I don’t care about competitiveness. From an artist’s viewpoint each design is unique and every detail well thought out. Of course, you’re entitled to your opinion, but these are far from terrible.
from an artist point of view they are going too cute to the point that made the new pokemon looks like something from another franchise more than a contenuety.
Designs and artists abilities change over time. No matter how you look at it, the style in Gen 1 are overall very different to the styles in Gen 2, which are in turn different to Gen 3 and so on.
It’s been over 20 years, the way things are done are bound to change. I was thinking about this myself the other day.
The Pokemon from each generation have a specific style to them, and they differ from generation to generation.
You can actually tell when you look at all 721 Pokemon in order in one collective image.

Dude 20 years is a long time. No one remains the same in 20 years, it’s nearly impossible. Loads of factors come into play, which will affect the art style. From Gen 1-2 you may not notice, but the bigger the gap between gens, the more noticeable it becomes.

Cute is again subjective. I find some of these appealing…some of them I don’t.
Drampa, Bruxish, Salandit, Mudbray, Mudsdale are far from cute in my opinion.
Also majority of what have been revealed are base stages, which tend to be cute anyway.

Of course they’re cute. We’re mostly looking at beginning Pokemon. Back in the XY days most of the first Pokemon revealed were ‘cute’ because they were meant to appeal to beginning trainers. Besides, there are several that aren’t cute (although it’s subjective): Mudsdale, Gumshoos, Bruxish, Wishiwashi (school form), Tapu Koko, etc.

I repectifully disagree. These new Pokemon may look different from Pokemon in other regions, but is that not also true for real life animals as well? Personall, I think all the designs this gen are great except for Sandcastle Mon.
no its not true cause thats they changed the style not just the designs look at raichus mouth and the old one, and how the older one had visable toes and this one just have a rounded legs with lines on them.
I am in the same boat as OmegaEmpoleon. The only one I don’t like so far in terms of design and would be the Bewear line.
