The Pokémon Company has officially announced Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon versions in today’s Pokémon Direct.

Pokémon Sun & Moon are compatible with Pokémon Bank and Pokémon can be transferred to Sun and Moon from the Virtual Console games. It will also be possible to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon X & Y and ORAS, using Pokémon Bank. The games will be playable worldwide in 9 languages.
The official site has confirmed that Sun and Moon will arrive with “a new world, new Pokémon, and new adventures to discover”. New Pokémon and region/s are confirmed! In addition to this the press release for the UK specifically states that Sun and Moon are a “new generation of Pokémon game”.
For those with a keen eye: the trailer appears to tease a new bird Pokémon with a similar appearance to Fletchling.

Yeah, surreal describes the whole Gen 7 situation for me. All of this came out of nowhere two days ago. Crazy how quick things can change.

I blame the connection between the Sun and Moon colours and Zygarde. I’m sure you’ve seen the pokemon xyz poster, right? Complete Zygarde has five hexagons on its chest.

White: Possibly Zygarde itself
Orange: Sun legend
Red: Yveltal

I’ve seen that theory so many times over the past day, and I think it’s all a bunch of nonsense. At least, in terms of the whole “Gen 6.5” situation. Sun and Moon can easily remain Gen 7 games (as that’s what they are) and still incorporate Zygarde. It’s all speculation at this point, but we simply cannot say that Gen 7 is not here. To top it off, look at the similarities of the XY and ORAS logos and how different the SM logos are.

That does seem like reasonable proof. Personally, as I said below, I do agree with you on it being Gen 7, though I still think the two new cover legends will have some connection to Zygarde.
Each of those logos has a symbol of something big in the game, the mega dna, the orbs, what’s the thing for sm?
It could be nothing significant. I feel like these logos hint to a much simpler overall tone and story to these games. They just look much flatter and have less mystery to them.
They said in an interview they wanted to go back to more simpler roots but making in as interesting as possible and keep surprising us!!

I get why everyone thinks it’s gen VII, and it very probably is, but we just don’t have 100% confirmation yet. We do have very telling cues, but nothing absolutely concrete telling us this isn’t a special kind of situation. I think putting a question mark is perfectly justifiable.

They did that with black and white because of the colours. You wouldn’t have been able to see Zekrom on a black background and the same with Reshiram on a white background.

about the connection of Pokemon RGBY and Bank… how do you think they will resolve the natures, IVs, abilities… ? I was wondering that Sun and Moon will have a mini-game or safari to re-catch them (only for the ones coming from these games), like the DreamWorld Pokemon.
I wouldn’t like the stats to be random, with no option to use syncronize pokemon to get one specific nature… :/
For the pokebank from RGBY the natures and abilities will probably be random. IV’s i thought have been around since gen 1 but i may be wrong. I think its going to be the same as xy and oras. The pokemon is merely deposited in the pc

Has anyone else downloaded one (or more) of the Virtual Console games? I am currently playing Blue (with my original Blue cartridge on my bedside cabinet). It was the very first Pokemon game I ever played and i havent looked back since!
