Pokémon ORAS Review Round-up

The embargo for ORAS review has lifted and reviews are now out in the wild. I’ve rounded up some of them here. Are you excited for ORAS launching this Friday (or next week) and are you curious if they live up to the hype. Spoilers: Nope, they are the worst Pokémon games ever.

  • Gamespot – Give these remakes enough time, and you begin to understand why Pokemon’s formula hasn’t changed much over the years. It’s a seemingly simple and cute journey, but with the underlying potential for strategy in combat, and a massive number of adorable Pokemon to catch, you can’t help getting hooked by Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. 8/10
  • GoNintendo – Overall, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire is a good improvement over the original Sapphire as well as last year’s X/Y releases. While it may not be the right game for players to jump back into the series or into it for the first time, it’s more enjoyable with a lot of streamlined features while adding new design elements that attempt to engage players in more aspects of the game.
  • IGN – As a 3D remake, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby do a fantastic job of reintroducing Hoenn. Little details, like characters turning their heads to look as you pass or flocks of Wingulls flying overhead, make the region really come to life, and small updates and tweaks help make the journey smoother.
  • Joystiq – Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire do little to overhaul the major pillars of a series that’s long relied on the same set of classic ideas, but they don’t have to. The core mechanics of Pokemon remain immensely addictive, and Game Freak’s latest coat of polish only enhances an already captivating adventure. 4.5/5
  • Nintendo World Report – Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are way better games than last year’s X/Y while also improving on the Game Boy Advance originals. 9/10
  • Daely Reviews – With the lack of Mega Flygon, no Mega Milotic and no Battle Frontier, these are literally the worst Pokémon games ever. Ever. 2/10.

There are more reviews on Metacritic, which all seem favourable so go check them out!

  1. I think Delta Emerald is gonna happen. This time I think it’s going to be a direct sequel to ORAS. In the past, R/S and E were always confusing. Nobody knew which storyline was the official one, and so many people would just go with Emerald because it was the “better” game. I think now is the perfect opportunity to differentiate between the two. R/S and E, while although largely the same, did not have the same plot. They’ve already supplied the back story now to a sequel/update (Delta Emerald). They allude to Wallace replacing Steven, Juan, and a new Battle Frontier being built.

So my theory is, what if Delta Emerald really does come to be, and they do finally draw the line between the old R/S and E. This time, Tabitha and Shelly take over Team Magma and Aqua respectively (as is hinted in their descriptions). They awaken Groudon and Kyogre AGAIN, and this time the fight everybody wanted happens. We get a slight twist on Emerald’s plot, more megas, and a Frontier. Yay

  2. @TCMets:disqus Next games will most likely be the 3rd installment of XY, like almost guaranteed to be honest. I don’t see how they would make Delta Emerald and Pokemon “Z”

  4. So really i feel it’s gonna be timed based thing in for the BF. I mean r/s/e started the time based clock so it would be a perfect way to use it and pay tribute to it. Since mitrage island is gone this could be it’s replacement.

    • over a perid of time the Bf will be slowly built. It would explain the reason for the battle masion returning and keep people playing the game

  5. So wait?
    BF is unconfirmed?
If so, then I think it’s because they’re saving it for the XY Prequels/Sequels.
    Which would be very disappointing.
    But hey, Kalos needs something.

  8. Why would they point out BF is being built if they weren’t planning on opening it?
I don’t understand, maybe it will be a time based event.
After all, even R/S had time based events, as well as the DEMO having the kecleon in front of steven’s house as a time based event.
Also, why battle tower music and battle frontier brain music if there would be neither in the game?
    Oh boy.
Also I’m gonna SR for a shiny totodile in ORAS.
    I need it.
