New game could change Pokémon forever

Pokémon is close to 20 years old now, having been started in 1996 by Satoshi Tajiri, and the main series which began the franchise has changed only marginally overall. There are more Pokémon, more types, more characters and more ways to “Catch ’em All!”, but fundamentally each iteration has remained close to the formula introduced in Pokémon Red & Green.

new-pokemon-projectThis could change. We already know a new Pokémon project will be unveiled on August 26th, but fans have no idea what to expect. The print edition of Famitsu recently revealed, however, that this announcement is of a “very new development” for the series and described it as “earth-shattering” news. The image was shared by Japanese fan karubiimunomono.

We’re only days away, but this is our chance to discuss what could be coming to the Pokémon franchise and whether or not it will ever be the same again. Is it the start of a second main series? Is Pokémon re-tooling the core RPG? Will we finally get a Wii U game or a console addition to the main series? …or could it just be another spin-off title?

  1. Good night sexy people (me)!

So yeah, I got my schedule today.
Don’t have many classes with my friends.
Do have classes with a bunch of douche-copters though.
And I have a bottom locker.
    Ducking great.

Leave a comment down below telling me, your first shiny pokemon or what you’re excited about/enjoying at school!

  2. Ok, I will learn Japanese words using my favorite Japanese anime songs. 😀
That is, after I’ve memorized both harigana and katakana.

  3. Apparently there were two unreleased Mega Stone items in the code of X and Y. I’m not sure if you guys know about this, but they’re called the Mega Glove and the Mega Charm These are apparently Mega Stone customization options? I don’t know.

  4. I wonder if an HD Pokémon game would have textures for the Pokémon’s model. They kind of touched on it in XY but what if Pikachu actually had fur?!

  5. I’m simultaneously excited and scared about this because I don’t to change too much if it’s a main series game with a twist. Though, I’m actually thinking it might be an announcement for a patch/expansion pack sort of thing for XY.

  6. Remember how every Pokémon in the BW2 animated trailers knew the move Protect (to protect their trainers and themselves) I think that should be a “5th move”, if you will.

    • It could be called the “Super Resort” or something equally corny. Activated at any time, but only after a certain number of battles.

      • No, I’m thinking something more akin to the (God-forsaken) anime. Like how the trainers are all like “DODGE THAT” But instead it’s a battle option called “Protect” that blocks a move but takes up a turn and doesn’t cost a moveslot.

  8. Earth-shattering? Hmm…!

Maybe we, in the coming games after ORAS, will get to play in ALL the regions in the same game?
You know…, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova AND Kalos? 😉
And maybe we can choose in which region we want to start?

    THAT would be cool!

  9. Guys, I just had a thought. A couple of months ago a trademark for “Delta Emerald” was found right? What if they release Delta Emerald on the Wii U simultaneously with ORAS. It can have pretty much the same game with some extras, like Stadium/colluseum function etc, better graphics, and lots of bonus features!
I personally would love this! As many have said, why would they release something “earth-shatteringly “huge now since it’ll only get in the way of ORAS? Unless it’s to coincide with it somehow!

    • What’s the point of getting Oras if there will be a better version on the wii u that’s basically a mix of the two games. They would lose a lot of money. But good thought, though.

      • The same could be said for Smash Bros lol. The point is Nintendo are willing to do this. Plus less people own a Wii U, and Nintendo really need to be getting it out there.

  10. Some people were talking about implementing stuff from the anime. We NEED to have an in game version of contest battles and combination moves that two pokemon can perform, perhaps exclusive to contest battling or throughout.

    • I would LOVE this. Always thought while growing up watching the anime that contest battles were much harder than gym battles.

  12. I refuse to get my hopes up for anything as ‘earth-shattering’ as suggested. I just refuse. GF, Nintendo, Smash and Get TV have collectively trolled me too many times.

  13. With everybody talking about a open world hd game, now I want one. I doubt it will be a mmo, but you can have friends come to your world. Maybe there is new battle mechanics, and looks like the Pokken fighters demo. MAYBE THERE CAN BE A TOURNAMENT FUNCTION ADDED :D. Also I like the idea of random weather and pokemon in the over world. Maybe there will be a new capture function with it, like using a big net for big pokemon.
