New game could change Pokémon forever

Pokémon is close to 20 years old now, having been started in 1996 by Satoshi Tajiri, and the main series which began the franchise has changed only marginally overall. There are more Pokémon, more types, more characters and more ways to “Catch ’em All!”, but fundamentally each iteration has remained close to the formula introduced in Pokémon Red & Green.

new-pokemon-projectThis could change. We already know a new Pokémon project will be unveiled on August 26th, but fans have no idea what to expect. The print edition of Famitsu recently revealed, however, that this announcement is of a “very new development” for the series and described it as “earth-shattering” news. The image was shared by Japanese fan karubiimunomono.

We’re only days away, but this is our chance to discuss what could be coming to the Pokémon franchise and whether or not it will ever be the same again. Is it the start of a second main series? Is Pokémon re-tooling the core RPG? Will we finally get a Wii U game or a console addition to the main series? …or could it just be another spin-off title?

  3. Paper Pokemon would honestly be a dream come true. But, not like the last two Paper Mario (Mario RPG) entries. All sorts of pokemon would be “enemies” but they can be capture-able, and able to evolve with something like the shiny sprites or just level up. It would be so fun with the type effectiveness too.

That, or like everyone else, an open world sort of game. But that would almost be too good to be true!

    Or, Pokken Fighters.

Or, pokemon creator, design pokemon, buildings, trainers, gyms, for others to exchange and play.

Either way, a Wii U game is a must!

  4. I’m hoping for an open-world game on the Wii U, but I’m not going to get my hopes up. After all, they do tend to exaggerate with these things (“Scoop of the century”).

    • I remember being extremely upset with the “scoop of the century” it was a huge change in the game. The biggest change in the mechanics to date. I think it was deserving of the phrase. But, now I do like megas, as long as they have good designs that is :p

    • I doubt it is. Don’t worry. PokeJungle was just stating how long Pokemon has been running. The game on August 26th might offer a new thing to change the formula! Plus, Pokemon is a giant cash crop for Nintendo. They’re going to keep the series running as long as possible! 😉

    • Any game series can jump from one hurdle to the next with ease, it’s all about the timing, not the restraints. Although it is early, being labeled as “Earth-shattering” does give one a wisp of light as to the possibilities.

    • Pokemon didn’t recently jump into 3D. We’ve had Stadium, Colosseum, Gale of Darkness, Battle Revolution and more. They could easily improve upon that concept. Granted, I don’t think it’s an open world game or a main-stream game. Still, there are many possibilities.

  5. Possibilities:
~ Third branch from the main Pokemon games: Main, Side, ???
    ~ Pokken Fighters
    ~ Pikachu Detective game
    ~ 1st person view introduction
    ~ Pokemon Mystery Dungeons
~ The Pokemon game slated for 2015

    • Your first possibility is highly not going to happened. We’re getting OR/AS. It’s too soon. Pokken Fighters & the Pikachu Detective Game would be possibilities. FPS. I don’t know. There could easily be an option in the games to make the game FPS. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon isn’t too “earth-shattering”. Also, the series doesn’t have many fans.

  6. Remember when Shigeki Morimoto said: “I belive that Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire will change the gen VI battle environment”?… could this be related to what he said?…because, as far as we’ve seen about these games, OR/AS haven’t made any change of that kind…yet. Would OR/AS bring another big chance for pokemon?…i’m so curious!

  7. What I want: see other players on friend list in same world as you when both, or more, players are logged into WiFi. You can challenge NPCs in game (excluding stuff like the BC).

What I’ll get: none of it…
