Not celebrating Indepence Day? Learn to draw Pokémon instead!

Pokémon Art Academy releases today in the Nintendo eShop and in-stores! The caveat is that it’s only released in Europe! Sorry Ammuricans, the Japanese probably thought your overly patriotic music, abundant fireworks and food was too much for them so they only gave you a vague October 2014 release date.

The game gets a budget pricing at €34.99/£29.99, but I’ll leave it up to you how much you consider this a budget price for what is essentially a drawing tutorial. That said, the Art Academy series is very useful for beginners learning to draw, so if you’ve always wanted to draw some Pokémon, now’s your chance!

I’m enjoying a nice summer holiday and will be watching to some world-class football (real football) instead of celebrating those silly Independence Days. Like it’s you who played part in the creation of the independence anyway :).

  1. Just asking. But is it tough to find a Male Litleo for anyone? I dislike catching female Pokemon unless the Pokemon looks female (yea. I’m weird.) and it took me 30 minutes to find 1 Male Litleo. Lucky it had Unnerve.

  2. After reading Chico comment about Pokemon Get TV. I could recall when Pokemon Sunday dropped a ton of new information! They showed off Zoroark (Silhouette too), Starters, New look at battles, Areas in Unova and a ton more. Pokemon Get TV seems to be nothing but rehashed information!

  3. In a Nuzlocke Run, are you prohibited from catching legendaries (not that anyone would try w/o the Master Ball, but still)?

    • I heard for Nuzlockes, some rules can be changed for each player, so long as the main rules apply in some way.
I wouldn’t know though, since I only read about them. I don’t actually do them. I would instantly fail.

      • I don’t do them either. I do know the rules though, and one of the exceptions to the rules, like shiny encounters.

        • Same. I am kinda interested, but I’d have to write down the rules I want to apply and I am entirely lazy.

          • Id on’t do them because there are some pokemon I really don’t like and don’t want to risk the chance of being forced to use them. I truly, am the greatest trainer ever. XD

          • I like to try new Pokemon :3
I did with Zubat and many others, and found that I ended up liking them.
Zubat though, seriously. I love Crobat now.
And I finally use Mienfoo and it is awesome 😀

          • Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances. If the first encounter in the area is a Double Battle in dark grass, the player may choose which of the two Pokémon they would like to catch.
While not exactly a definite rule, the general consensus is that players must also nickname all of their Pokémon, for the sake of forming stronger emotional bonds.
Also not a definite rule, but the general consensus is that a black out/white out is considered to be “game over”, even if there are Pokémon left in the PC.
Strongly implied, though not explicitly mentioned in the comic, is the stipulation that the player can use only Pokémon they have captured themselves, meaning traded Pokémon, mystery gifts, etc., are prohibited. Trading and retrading the same Pokémon (for the purpose of evolving a Graveler, for example) is something of a gray area, and may fall under optional rules. It is implied that the player can accept Pokémon that are received freely from NPCs.
Also strongly implied is a prohibition against voluntarily resetting and reloading the game when things go wrong. Being able to do so would render all of the other rules pointless.

          • I know the rules xD But there are optional rules and changes to the rules. I would need to know which ones I want to follow.

          • I already have looked it up! xD
But I need to separate them from the ones I’m not doing. Or else my brain will just get confused.

          • You really want me to play one, don’t you xD I already have so much to do already!

        • Probably because of the EXP Share. I always hate it. I don’t use it ever. I faint sometimes, sure, but I get through it. It’s not that hard.

  5. I thought of the perfect pokemon to use against Roaming Legendaries! It’ll be:

    1. Water/Ghost
    2. A Physical Attacker with high Defensive Stats.
    3. Have access to the moves: Soak, Pain Split, Recover, Heal Block, Thunder Wave, and False Swipe.
    4. If it can learn False Swipe, then it can also learn X-Scissor and Night Slash.
    5. Have Shadow Tag as its ability.

  6. I just uploaded my new YouTube intro and outro 😀 And I came up with my catchphrase; the thing that people would remember me by.
“Voxel up, ValiantPeople! It’s ValiantPixel!” (with a finger square to represent a pixel)
    And then my end words:
“Remember, the third eye doesn’t lie!”
I wanted representation from my overarching ValiantPixel identity and my Pokemon-specific ShinyXatu identity. It’s like one of those Russian dolls.
