In terms of gameplay/mechanics and how it improved from the previous installment however,

Yeah I’d put Kalos at the top too. It’s just the game was too easy and there was virtually no post game.
This I 100% agree. But for me in-game was never a challenge in any pokemon game so I don’t place too much importance on that. But I would like ORAS to not be as easy as Kalos.

I think platinum had the best leveling curve. But hoenn was also good.
