Journey Back to Hoenn – Roar of Time: Generation III

It seems like only yesterday I started the Journey to X & Y article series, when in actuality it’s fast approaching six months since I did! Admittedly the inferno of hype for X & Y has flickered down into a smouldering cinder, but that’s expected, the games are out. Many of our readers enjoyed the articles we ran last year, and we’ve decided to continue the generation weeks we failed to complete before the release of the games. They’ll be a little different however—just a title change really, but still a heap of fun!

In Roar of Time we asked our readers what they would add to older games, if they gained the ability to travel back in time and make any change or additions they wanted. This time round it’s the same deal! If you could take control of Dialga and morph time back to the early development stages of Ruby and Sapphire (or any of the other Third Generation games!), what would you change? What would you take away? What would you add?

We don’t want you to be too outrageous here, keep things realistic. You could also pick something completely obvious, but what’s the fun in that? As we said in the first article don’t forget to consider how your change or addition would have an effect on the future of Pokémon games.

Get those brains working and tell us your ideas, we’ll be featuring our favourites in the next Roar of Time (who can guess what that will focus on?)

Please remember to Like us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter! Or, if forums are your thing register on our forums, we always look forward to new members joining!

As a side note, please, please try to control your commenting on this article, when it comes to finding content for featuring it becomes very difficult if I have to filter through 1,000 comments saying you’re home from school, or asking if anyone is ‘here’. We have a chat, please use it!

  1. I would be really happy if they give Bibarel a mega evolution. It’s one of those Pokemon that isn’t as memorable. With Moody, Mega Bibarel will wreck havoc. Imagine that. My shiny Bibarel, the first one I ever had, will be waiting.

  2. This is what I think Mega Sableye should be like:

    Mega Sableye X
    Type: Dark
    Ability: Protean
    Stats: 50/125/45/115/25/120
    Competitive Status: Mixed Sweeper

    Mega Sableye Y
    Type: Ghost
    Ability: Shadow Tag
    Stats: 50/45/125/25/115/120
    Competitive Status: Fast Wall

  3. Just realized that Mawile and Sableye both have the same base stat total, and both are counterparts of each other. Sableye also has the lowest base stat for a dark Pokemon. I think its highly possible it will receive a Mega in the future, and go from 380 to 480 like Mawile did. Only started doing research on Sableye after I seen UberMawile’s fanmade spreads for it lol.

It’d be hard coming up for an ability to give it though. Either Infiltrator or Limber sounds the most tasteful. With an increase in its attack. Anyways, gonna go and enjoy my night. Enjoy your night guys.

    • Glad you saw my Mega Sableye Theory. I’m a guy who’s obsessed with keeping balance and justice to the world. This is why it bothers me that Sableye didn’t get a Mega when Mawile did. It’s just not fair. Heck. I assumed Sableye would get it after I saw Mega Mawile!!!

Yeah. I know Sableye’s fantastic because of it’s Hidden Ability, and so many people are already used to it’s main strategy. However, few people have always wanted to use it offensively. This is why I gave it two Megas.

Mega Sableye X is the offensive one. Since I didn’t give it Huge/Pure Power, I decreased it’s defenses and added them (including the Mega 100 BST Bonus) to Atk, Sp. Atk, and Spd. Sableye has NO type advantage against Mawile, and it’s weak to Fairy. So with Protean, Sableye can use Fire Punch, become a Fire Type, and attack Mawile w/ STAB Super effective damage, like Mawile w/ Play Rough.

Mega Sableye Y is the defensive one. I was thinking of giving it Prankster, but I changed my mind. It’s super fast, so high priority would be pointless. I could think of a good ability to give it, so I gave it Shadow Tag.

Both Megas become Pure Types (Dark or Ghost) because I thought it’s be cool.

  4. If I did badly on my one English test it’s only 30% of my grade which is really good news because I have an almost A- already c:
That was my one worry for the start of the week, but not anymore.

  5. Less water (actually made the games the most disliked for me because of the endless Tentacools and Wingulls).
I know there has to be water cause of Team Aqua but at least make the routes quite narrow and the trainers close together. I like battling everyone and having to zig-zag(oon) up and down was annoying

  6. Maybe instead of getting rid of most of the water, they should make wild Pokémon only appear in swirls or small areas of water where their appears to be a lot of motion going on based on the waters surface.. large amounts of water is what helped make Hurrn Original. They should keep it.

  7. I just noticed something. The past third main Trio Members (Rayquaza, Giratina, and Kyurem) have NEVER been Shiny Locked. Why Shiny Lock Zygarde now?

  8. More Zygarde Speculation:

Since Gen III, legendaries have been “breaking the norm” of being legendaries.

    Gen III: Legendaries w/ genders
Gen IV: A Legendary that can breed
Gen V: A legendary that can fuse with other legendaries

We all know that Game Freak loves to do new and unexpected things. Since Zygarde should not get a new forme(s) because that’s overused, we’ve been speculating that it would get Mega Evolution(s) because of it’s 600 BST. However, what if that’s not the case.

What if Game Freak gives Zygarde an EVOLUTION or BRANCH EVOLUTIONS?!?! Legendaries have never been able to evolve. That’s the last “legendary norm” they haven’t broken yet!

    • ^ This!
I’ve always wanted to so see Zekrom and Reshiram when they were both one with Kyurem and Zygarde looks like it has a lot of potential (Low bst,Snakes can shed their skin,3rd legend in the cover trio etc.) I’d definitely like to see Zygarde evolve into many different creatures like maybe the season you’re in depends on the transformation.

    • I really don’t think zygarde won’t get a mega evo, there are just too many. Eventually every pokemon will mega evolve >,>

  9. For some reason all I can think about now is the trick masters house and the cycling road. There were so many Voltorbs and Magnemites on it XD I also remember a psychic trainer with an Abra near the bottom right of the cycling road and I still to this day wonder how they got in without a bicycle.

    • The trick house was THE best mini game in the series. I used to go there after every gym battle to check for new challenges.
