PJM Writing Contest Winners & Art Contest Clear Up

Sorry for the slight delay, as I got struck with a severe headache and a bad temper. But I persevered to bring you the ultimate winners of the PJM 2014 Writing Contest!

I received 10 round two submissions, all of them which were excellent! You all did a great job guys. Choosing two winners proved to be a daunting task. But the big winner was a clear-cut case for me, as I absolutely loved his history of Pokémon before Pokémon even existed. So I hereby declare the following Pokéjungler as the absolute first winner of the PJM Writing Contest:

James Hurst with Capsule Monsters: The Pre-evolution to Pokémon

The second winner was a though choice between four favorites, but I ultimately went with:

ShinyXatu with MissingNo.: The Acceptable Glitch

Both will get contacted for further details regarding fine tuning their articles within the course of next week. And of course, we can’t forget to mention their prize. Each will get a free printed copy of the magazine, including free shipping :). The others will get the chance of seeing their articles up on the site, starting as early as next week. I’ll contact them if that’ll be the case.

While I get back to work off-screen, I would like to address the confusion that arose around the Art Contest. This is most likely my own fault as I was extremely exhausted writing the introduction article and seemingly forgot to write a general description.

The purpose of the Art Contest is to receive high quality (in technical terms) digital art commonly found on sites such as Deviantart. The winner will see his article taking up one whole page, so it has to be something suitable to be blown up so much. It will be very much like a big ad in a magazine, but without the advertising. For technical details, click here. If you still have some questions about the contest, be sure to hit me up with an email (found in the article) or just shoot it at me in the comments.

I’m off for now, my head still pounds with the force of one million suns. Happy commenting, and don’t be afraid of being banned quickly, the Headmaster wasn’t trying to intimidate anyone :).

  1. Pokejungle War Journal Entry 3

So these last two days have been brutal.
We lost many of our family members.
They include many very close junglers.
And everyone fled to the chat in fear of PJ and his mods.

On the second day, we lost more junglers.
Xatu went insane, and many others suffered depression.
We also gained 2 new members on day 2.

    Day 3.
The war is starting to end.
People have been returning, such as Slippery. Everyone has been more calm, but we still suffered many losses.
    Hopefully this war ends soon.

  2. Here’s a small preview of who the mysterious James Hurst is. I thought I should give you guys something to read, and I hope Disqus works along. From round one:

The Mega Discovery in Pokémon Evolution Rocks the Kalos Region

    By Pansy Alexa

Evolution; a change all life goes through. It is natural, common and in-turn allows us all to confront life in a more confident and capable manner. However, a spotlight has been cast upon a more uncommon and mysterious method of evolution; a way few know about and only recently has come to the public eye: Mega Evolution.

Now, those familiar with the Kalos region may know the basics regarding Mega Evolution. It affects only a small selection of Pokémon, allows fully evolved Pokémon or even those without an evolution a chance to attain a higher level of power, and is an unusual type of evolution which requires many conditions.

It is not only the appearance of these special Pokémon that alters during the transformation; abilities, stats and even the type itself can change once the Mega Evolution process begins. What makes this evolution so unique, however, is the fact that it enables a Pokémon to transform only temporarily into this greater evolution state, only to revert back after battle or upon fainting.

Professor Augustine Sycamore has been studying the wonders of Mega Evolution for a large portion of his life.

Once a student dedicating his time to study at the Tower of Mastery in Shalour City, a major landmark not only for Kalos but for the history of Mega Evolution, Professor Sycamore found his pursuits were best met in the world of science and research.

When asked regarding his research and discoveries into Pokémon Mega Evolution, Professor Sycamore said: “There are numerous Pokémon that are able to Mega Evolve: Mawile, Alakazam, Blaziken, and some of which, such as Charizard, have two Mega Evolution forms. The reason why and how this is the case is currently unknown, though it is clear there are two distinct stones for Charizard, each with different energy outputs and appearances.”

In order for a Pokémon to Mega Evolve they must be holding the Mega Stone that corresponds with that particular Pokémon; for example, Lucario, the first Pokémon known to have Mega Evolved, would have to hold a Lucarionite to enable it to become Mega Lucario.

Another requirement to fulfil Mega Evolution in a Pokémon is to be in possession of a Key Stone which is found within certain items such as rings, dubbed Mega Rings, and other accessories. The two stones resonate with one another and in turn provides the energy, much like the ones found in Fire or Leaf Stones, and results in an Evolution. There is one final condition however to achieve Mega Evolution and that is to possess a deep bond of trust between the Pokémon and trainer.

Professor Sycamore continues to say: “I have contacted Professor Oak on the issue and the theory on Mega Evolution being linked to the bonds between Pokémon and humans has some shred of truth to it. The stones used have a link to most other evolution stones, though there is still a shroud of mystery we have yet to unveil. That is why my dedicated team and I are working hard to fully understand this phenomenon.

“Why do these and only these Pokémon only evolve further? Some of those capable of evolving already have a number of evolved forms, and the Mega Stones themselves are also a rather perplexing conundrum. We are close to a breakthrough regarding the energy readings these stones emit but apart from that I am to rely on my new assistants, who are currently travelling through Kalos on their own journeys of discovery and wonder, to help further my knowledge and study into the region’s biggest Pokémon mystery.”

Gurkinn, the Mega Evolution Guru of the Tower of Mastery which is said to hold many secrets regarding Mega Evolution, has said: “There is a lot more we do not know regarding this form of transformation, and it is theorised that there may be more Pokémon actually capable of it.”

Professor Augustine Sycamore, in response to his current studies, will be giving a lecture on the subject of Mega Evolution Saturday 12th October at the Hotel Richissime in Lumiose City, Kalos.
