Many individuals speculated upon the initial release of Pokémon Bank was that the reason why it was delayed for so long was that it A.) had a ridiculous server load and B.) Didn’t come close to stopping hacked ‘mons. Well, Game Freak finally released it in the west with some impressive results; the servers run (relatively) smooth and there are plenty of checks to block hacked Pokémon from entering. Does it work? Yeah, and it does a decent job. Is it perfect? Far from it.
Why I Hack
I’m a Pokemon hacker. Yes, I admit it. I’ve been hacking ‘mons since the days of Ruby and Sapphire (I only played the rom and never owned a GBA). I’ve never had events readily available until recently, so Pokémon like Deoxys and Darkrai were never in my PC box. Having all three starters was a far stretch of a possibility, as was filling the Pokédex by the means of trading. I used Action Replays and (only recently) programs like Pokégen to experiment with teams and play with some of the more elusive Pokémon in-game. Never have I hacked abilities, moves, and IVs to create some impossible Pokémon to abuse online. I just do it for the fun solo gaming experience and to test out some new teams combinations without the time constraint that often plagues EV training and move breeding.
When Pokémon Bank announced that they would block hacked Pokémon from their servers, I was a bit distressed. How will I manage to obtain the starters without spending time replaying old games and stalking the trade boards? What about all of the cool events that I’ve missed in the past like Shaymin and Keldeo? I immediately started searching online just to see how well this hack blocking worked. If there’s a will, there’s a way, right?
The Hacking Check
It turns out that there is a hacking check in Transporter and in Bank. If you try to transfer a hacked Pokémon like, say, a Shiny Chimchar with perfect nature and maxed out IVs, it will probably be flagged because the chances of obtaining one of that quality are outstandingly low (obviously hacked abilities and moves sets that the original Pokémon can’t learn will be flagged as well). However, if you decide to be modest with the IVs, maybe forego the shiny coloring and tweak the the location / date met, it’ll probably bypass the check. It’s a bit tricky, especially with event Pokémon, but there are sites out there like Pokédit and programs such as Pokégen that have special event Pokémon that are specifically built to bypass any anti-hacking programs. And, as far as I know, these Pokémon can be used online in battles. I haven’t tested these boundaries fully, but I have used a hacked event Meloetta in an online battle to see if it would work, and it passed through easily.
Exceptions
The chances of getting a shiny with perfect stats is low, but not impossible, right? This is a problem that the few lucky trainers out there have been experiencing. I’ve been carousing a few message boards for information and theories of how the hack check works and have found a number of individuals who actually did receive a perfect shiny starter. They did legitimately catch that Shiny Modest Kyogre and it did happen to have amazing IVs. Well, Pokémon Bank flagged their precious teammates as hacked when they were apparently legitimate. I don’t know how honest those few people are, but I recall reading more than one incident of legit Pokémon not being able to be transferring. I suppose that Gamefreak needed to add a no-exception policy as to rule out the numerous hacks out there that ruin the delicate balance of the game. Unfortunately, this does affect those very small few who were actually lucky enough to obtain these excellent Pokémon legitimately. I guess Gamefreak was willing to make this sacrifice. From the looks of it, the fans haven’t been too horribly upset as it seems like a lot of them were only transferring these Pokémon for the sake of transferring them and don’t actually use them in battle, but I’m sure it’s pissed off its share of players.
So, to put it simply, Gamefreak makes a solid attempt to limit the amount of hacking that has overrun the late Pokémon games, but in the end it still exists. It will probably always exist – with new technology comes new loopholes for people to discover and exploit. Hopefully these loopholes will not affect the metagame too much, but I do appreciate the additional accessibility that these sites and services provide!

are there any reprecotions if you get caught using hacked pokemon online or in the bank?
dont think so.
because on the thing they make you agree to before getting the bank I just scaned it but I thought it said something about if you get caught trying to use hacked pokemon you may lose the right to use the bank o-0
i did try to transfer hacked pokemon and it just said that there was something wrong with a pokemon and then transfered the non hacked pokemon.
I got snow last night! Too bad it’s ugly snow and should go away.
i hate snow someone needs to K.O. that vanilluxe
I can say I honestly don’t care outside of using them to gain unfair advantage over people, with the whole ridiculous IV’s, moves, and abilities. I’ve hacked before (I hacked the encounters in Leafgreen to get my precious Delcatty among other things in that game) and I tested some hacked pokemon in the battle subway. Do I feel good about it? No. Do I feel guilty? No. I wasn’t hurting anyone.
I would have been devastated if any of my pokemon that I played with hadn’t made it through, and I was still kind of upset that my WTC deoxys and shiny Jirachi (pretty sure it’s legit) didn’t make it through, even though I RNG’d PLENTY of pokes that did, including a 5V shiny female Oshawott. So I guess it evens out in the end to kind of impartial feelings.
fair FAIR really there no such fucking thing as fair in this world boy those japs cost me a mew, a shiny kyogre, one of my two darkrais, and one of my two arceus its bullshit that what it is i understand there reasoning but really game freak some people cant get those pokemon ever i was lucky but still its kind of a dick move some people or kids will ever get there hands on one
Why don’t they just, you know, have something that can tell if it’s been generated through codes or modified? It’s a half-assed attempt at stopping hacking. I don’t agree with it at all because it’s not supporting a franchise you supposedly love.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
And they said i wouldnt get my Precious Arceus
WHO’S LAUGHING NOW DRAKE???!?!?!!?!?!?
All these dumb kids on gts…
i’m only against using hacked Pokemon online! If you hack certain Pokemon for use in your solo game or in a emulation of a game that’s one thing but using them in online battles for a unfair advantage is just wrong!
For me the problem of hacking is because people can generate mons in 5 seconds with perfect IV’s and everything, but, what about people that train hard to have their perfect mons? I don’t like hacking and by far I’ve kick some hackers butts in the past 😀
Well I used a hacking tool to make a team for wifi… call me lazy but I really don’t have time to make a whole team. Besides, I prefer to get to the fun part-battling.
i sorta feel the same way, as i feel like hacking is ok under certain situations, for example, i have a 10 anniversary flying pikachu in my fire red, it can’t be traded without removing the move fly, which to me ruins its uniqueness and the only way to give it back fly is to use a cheating device, so am i considered a hacker and is that pokemon illegal, how so when all i am doing is giving back the move it once had , clearly i dont know if i should blame gamefreak for not looking at situations like that because they not the ones who make changes to hardware nintendo does, but i dont know if it can be said clearly they didnt think this through.
I Can Speak On This One. I Have A Large Amount Of Hacked Pokémon Sent Over Too My Pokemon X. In Particular, I Have A Rayquaza(Ray) Who Was An Obvious Hack Cause I Had Two In Diamond. I Also Have A Lot Of Shiny Lv. 100 Pokémon, Such As My Lovely Gardevoir (Gardina). She’s A Dream!!! Lol So I Think You Can Hack The Pokemon On White And Black But Just Do Not Change The IVs And Stats. Hope This Helps Fellow Hack Buddies!
P.S. Battle Me If You Dare! Mwahahaha! (Look For Ruu!)

Has anybody tried to transfer their hacked shiny pokemon to x and y (action replay) with not messaging with their iv or ev. Just getting hacked of pokemon always shiny.
I’ve sent heaps of poke-gened, 6iv shiny pokemon with ideal nature, and they got through. What to know how, I DID IT RIGHT, THATS HOW. The PID matched the ivs, nature, gender, and shininess, and all abilities, moves, caught locations and levels, are legitimately obtainable. The fact of the matter is, we know how to perfectly replicate a legitimate pokemon. As for hacking for 6iv pokemon, I believe it puts everyone on a level playing field. Battles can be determined by skill rather than how much free time someone has.
I’m not against hacking per se, I can see why people do it, but it’s not for me. I used to hack in fire red but it took all the challenge out of it so i decided not to. Now I’m extra happy about the pokemon I worked hard/ got lucky to get.
But I don’t think nintendo should ban a pokemon when there’s a chance it could be legit as I am currently egg breeding for a shiny charmander and nearly Iv bred some first and I know id be really irritated if I got really lucky and got a shiny 6iv charmander and then couldn’t put it in bank (especially since this will probably be the way you transfer pokemon to later games in the future)
I want a shamis
Well I really don’t see the problem if the hacked Pokemon is entirely legit. For example, as you pointed out, a shiny legendary with perfect IVs, EVs, and a legal move set is still legit because it’s possible to obtain it normally.
The hack checks can’t tell if you generated it or caught it legitly (there’s worse things to worry about anyway), so even though it’s supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, it still assumes you hacked due to unlikely chance of getting it. Maybe you should “hack” to remove the shiny aspect before you transfer it (or create and transfer another identical Pokemon, just without the shiny aspect) if you still want to be able to use it in tournaments and whatnot?
I only ever made hacked Pokémon to complete the Pokédex. But they all have amazing movesets and perfect IV’s. Hey, if you can do it, you might as well lol
My one thing is… the app I use (Pokébuilder for iOS and Android) can only get Unova Pokémon through Bank if their met location is outside of Unova. For example, my two Lv. 25 Gigalith with a completely legit moveset, perfect IV’s and everything else… only got through when I put them as having been met in Sinnoh.
I now have to breed countless Pokémon from the 31 “Sinnoh/Unova” Pokémon to get legit Poké’s for every species… So hopefully, all of my Pokémon are legit now. I also have to breed a bunch of others so I don’t have one of each species. I like variety and options.
I don’t think using hacked Pokemon is a big deal as long as the Pokemon is legitimate. Obviously having 6IV shiny legendaries is clearly very cheap and not fun to face from personal experience (honestly I just hate people that use more than 1 legendary anyways, that’s when it’s just stupid but I digress), but I guess it’s still technically legal so I’d allow it to pass. The system should really only filter out the obvious hacks with totally ridiculous stats, moves, abilities, etc.
Well I just got myself myself lux ray and rayquaza with both of them having wonderguard and the lux ray has fusion bolt
And both of them are shiny
Half my box of super-rare Pokemon I’ve accumulated got flagged. A hacked Celebi (cheat that gives event version for BW) passed, but a regular Infernape with 31 IVs and EV trained did not.PokeGen’d US variants of Victini which should be Japanese passed, however, a Drifblim from Platinum didn’t(and it has a shitty moveset!)
You’d think a company like this would do more than just fuck over anything valuable. So much for getting into the ORAS competitive field
The Vrvana totem headset is the latest entry into the VR space, providing a variety of unique features and benefits that help it stand out from other players in the field. It provides a rich 1080p OLEN screen, with adjustable lenses for those who have vision impairments. It also provides dedicated buttons and offloads PC processing so that your computer doesn’t have to do all the heavy lifting. This ensures that performance is maximized. Further, it contains 2 onboard cameras that allow you to see what’s happening in the physical world while you are wearing the goggles.
I feel bad for any of those kids out there that convinced or snuck charges onto their parents for pokemon through ebay. I was actually considering paying out of pocket for even pokemon for the first time as i just started getting obsessed with oras in anticipation for sun/moon.
The reason i feel bad for the kids that payed for pokemon they never would have even seen in their lifetime is partly because i remember buying a gba cartridge with a full shiny live pokedex game.
I managed to be able to transfer some pokemon all the way up to oras, including some i patched into the game using 1 of 3 different action replay devices. I wish i knew the ruling as i dont want to be unfair. My biggest problem is that i feel its unfair that ive played every single game since the originals multiple times over and many times i either lost my collection of pokemon, or like from gameboy to gba they didnt let us carry up our past pokemon. And its very hard and tedious moving up pokemon from HGSS into black/white into X n Y to then trade finally to ORAS. Another break where they stopped all carrying over pokemon was bettween diamond pearl and hgss.
I swear if there was a way to manually register every single pokemon i find in the wild with a generated serial code that u would enter on their site to validate it and allow it to be something you could keep trading up through the games even if they limit us to needin the nation dex to trade up… but hell id still ****ing do it. I just want my pokemon i dont want to hack em in, nor do i want to treat it like a job to get em back, and taking them all away so i have to catch them all over and i might as well throw away all my old precious pokemon that i love is just cruel.
I mean hell they could just flag my nintendo as having obtained hacked pokemon and temp trade ban me or soft tournament ban me, or flag the individually caught hacked pokemon. I just wanna have them ill go grind for a real team for online play.
