Nintendo reported their third straight loss to investors, and it seems as though they may be willing to seek new ways to make profit.

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s president, said he would continue to run the company and added, “We are thinking about a new business structure. Given the expansion of smart devices, we are naturally studying how smart devices can be used to grow the game-player business. It’s not as simple as enabling Mario to move on a smartphone.”

As iOS and Android devices have gained market traction and improved hardware, they’ve been seen as direct competitors to Nintendo’s handheld consoles. Mobile gaming applications often cost only a couple of dollars, much less than traditional handheld games.

The Pokémon Company has released some apps for mobile devices, including their 3D Pokédex and a Japan-exclusive simple rhythm game which tied into the trading card game, but they have never released other games.

We’ll have to watch Nintendo’s strategies closely. Would you like to see Mario, Zelda or Pokémon on your phone or tablet?

  18. I think I’m going to transition over to 3DS or handheld games instead of the Wii U for a while. Sometimes my OCD acts up and I realize that the system is not entirely to my disposal and my sister can, at any time, alter my home console data. *sigh* mental barriers.

  22. so how about this:
    the RS remakes would be called Tainted Ruby and Pure Sapphire and would feature mega evos of kyogre groudon and two for rayquaza based on which version you have. Mega Groudon would be Dark/Ground or something like that and Mega Kyogre would stay just water type. Pure Sapphire would have a mega rayquaza retaining it’s original typing and Tainted Ruby would change up it’s typing. the stones would be Rayquazite R and Rayquazite S.

    • I’m guessing mega evos are canon-ish to the anime.. Well, in origins at least. There’s a theory that suggests X megas are not natural megas.. They’re man made, since Mr. Fuji gave Red the Charizardite X which added the dragon type to Charizard same goes to Mewtwo and in the beginning of a 3rd gen movie (forgot which one) it showed Rayquaza encased in a cage or something with Team Aqua/Magma.. I’m guessing both teams would create their own mega stones Rayquazanite Aqua and Rayquazanite Magma? A bit too farfetched but hey. The anime is a bit to unreliable though, sometimes canon, sometimes not. But after all, it’s just a theory. A game theory. Haha
