Long ago, back in the year 2013, Samual (moving), Sam and I discussed our mutual love of gaming outside of Pokémon and talked about opening a site that covered all gaming news. Although I bought the domain in March of last year, I didn’t start working on it for several months. We opened up the forum to some members from Mt. Moon Community and our Facebook page (fan perks I guess) and got some initial feedback. Then I got busy again and we started covering news related to Pokémon X & Y. After that was over though… and our semester had finished… we began work again on the site. I had wanted to reveal this on the first of January, but we decided we wanted more time to fix things 🙂

What is Retry Level?

A community-centric gaming site

Although there are a lot of game news sites out there, I felt that they lacked a real sense of community integration. Over the years, PokéJungle (the site, not me) has really inspired me to focus on new media in a way which draws the reader in and makes them a part of the site they’re visiting. To this end we’ve created a gaming site which will (eventually) feature content hubs based on both news AND community threads. They will open in several weeks after we’ve had time to fill up the forum a little.

An independent unbiased source of news and commentary

There’s also the issue of independence which is an important one for me personally. I’m not a fan of sites which are run by large corporations and are driven by how much profit they can milk out of their media properties. I’m not interested in plastering ads on every inch of Retry Level and I want our team to be able to fairly review and comment on games without working about reprisal from advertisers. There have been several incidences on gaming sites in which a reviewer’s score has been called into question.

What are some cool features?

Steam integration

We’ve invested in some plugins which allow our members to login with their Steam IDs, as well as areas of the site on which you can view other gamers who are currently online and what they’re playing. Big plus for PC gamers (like myself).

Twitch integration

Game streaming has become a phenomenon. We allow our members to add their own streams so other members can watch and comment on them. Currently the PC and PlayStation 4 support Twitch streaming and the Xbox One will as well within several months.

If you like how we do things here, you’re going to love Retry Level as well 🙂 The tone is a bit more professional, but we’re definitely the same writers and with the same intense passion for Pokémon and gaming! A cool thing about Retry Level for us is that we’ll get to see some of our regular commenters here also post on our gaming site. Which will make us very happy 😀

  3. Looks awesome and I’m really excited! My only concern with the project is that if some of the staff from here are working on articles for Retry Level, it may take some away from here. But maybe I’m being selfish. 😛 Regardless, I’m very excited!! 😀

    • There will be three of us from PokéJungle, but with the team here so big it means that we can work here and there without sacrificing content here. HEre there here thetheth here there there thhehere thehe HErEHE TherhEHR.

      Also, the full PJ team hasn’t been properly utilised as of late. So yeah… 😀

  11. Cool, looks like a nice site. Heads up about one major problem: all the images you’re using on the home page take forever to load. I took a look and they’re all gigantic images (e.g. 1920×1080) scaled down in the browser, which is really really inefficient.

    • Most of them aren’t actually that big, so I’m not quite sure what’s happening there… Some of them may be, but I had to mess with them to fit them properly. I’ll look into it though!

  16. Corocoro leaked! Apparently Darkrai, Manaphy, Jirachi and Victini will appear in the movie short and one of them will be distributed at the movie based on a poll.

    • What is my favorite Mythical Pokemon?
      Mew was the original rarest Pokemon
      Celebi caused many many MANY tears in 4Ever
      I remember Using the event Jirachi for SS and I loved it in Pokemon Channel/Wish maker
      Manaphy always puts a smile on my face
      Shaymin though cute was kinda of a bitch in Sky Warrior

  19. Want to know how to get Bank Legendaries easily? I’ll give you my secret. I call it the Yveltal GTS Principle.

    1) Offer Yveltal on GTS for any NON-EVENT Legendary (also works for any other bank pokémon)
    2) Give a nice message. For me, I say “Enjoy :)!”
    3) Receive the pokémon you asked for.

    Why Yveltal you may ask. Out of all catchable legendaries in XY, Xerneas and Yveltal are the only Version exclusive ones, meaning that not everyone can get them. However, Yveltal is the more popular one of the Mortality Duo, therefore, more people want it than Xerneas.

    My brother and I have used this principle and it’s worked! We’ve offered two Yveltal and received two Bank Legendaries in exchange!

    Getting Yveltal may be difficult, but once you get it, things will work out for sure! I guarantee it.

    • I have 2 Yveltals to my self, one from my Y and one from my Bro’s Y, But I don’t think I should be so hasty in getting the bank legends…

      • I’m sorry. Do you offer it in December? That’s when Japan got it and many Japanese user were being trolls. Now, people are less jerkish and more countries have Bank pokemon now, not just Japan.
