New Pokémon Bank Details Revealed

Details about Pokémon Bank’s operation have finally come to light. Nintendo posted the above trailer with a brand new Pokémon Bank website. Bridgette, the “creator” of Pokémon Box: Ruby & Sapphire has returned to host the new Bank service. It launches on the Nintendo 3DS eShop on December 27th.

Some new details:

  • Multiple games can use the same account, dependent on your Nintendo Network ID
  • Regardless of region you may use any Pokémon X or Y copy on any 3DS to access Bank
  • Pokémon ARE at risk of being deleted forever if your trial or annual subscription concludes

          • lots of them have really crappy backstories (thanksgiving was the day indians were killed and ousted off their land and yet we celebrate unity and eat like pigs, people act like christmas is a christian holiday and blow the meaning of it way out of proportion, easter just doesn’t make sense, halloween’s one of the only ok holidays with me and even then religious wackjobs try to claim it has religious context)

          • True that they have crappy backstories, but I appreciate the spirit that people have for holidays, Thanksgiving to me is the day to be grateful for what i have and who i have in my life, Christmas (I’m atheist) I just love. It’s the Giving holiday. It might be materialistic but i enjoy making others happy. Halloween is the one day for me to not be myself and have fun dressing up as a character.

          • I just really can’t stand how people think Christmas is some holiday about being charitable and giving to others. Christmas was actually a Pagan holiday originally called Saturnalia where men partied like animals, got hilariously drunk, beat their wives and screwed each other. Because of how unruly everyone acted on the holiday, it was outlawed by the Protestant Church at the time, until it was later jacked by Christians and made into a different holiday. The only thing Christmas has in common with Christianity is that it shares the first 6 letters in its name with it. Hell, even in the Bible it says Jesus was not born on Christmas, not even remotely close to the date either.

          • I was raised with the modern meaning of Christmas, Things change. Christmas 100 years from now could be completely different from the way it is now.

          • I still have my Ruby, Emerald and two Sapphire versions haha. Sapphire is my favorite and i LOVE Kyoger. My personal favorite is Swampert.

        • I decided to use him on a whim when I restarted emerald it was the first time I used a grass starter and I was really glad I chose it because I came to appreciate grass types more 🙂 though it seems with every generation its still hard for me to choose a starter xD

  42. What’s your #1 reason for getting Pokémon Bank? To see unabtainable old gen Pokémon in 3D? Activate in-game events? To take full advantage of the GTS?

    For me, it’s to breed egg moves to Pokémon that I wish to use in my future team, but those egg moves are from Pokémon you can’t catch in XY. 🙁 I really want the bank right now!!!

  74. Elmolga and Skarmory will have megas.
    Why?
    Pokemon said they woulld reveal two megas, and that the only pokemon with the power to mega evolve in the TCG are EX, also neither Emolga or Skarmory are important pokemons this generations so that theyre EX is something extrange.

Dear Zakeruga, please stop using those photos to counter my past argument, so thanks to that i have an OBECTION!, as you can see the crime here is that youre trying to deny my argument posting images of the TCG saying that an Emolga or Skarmory MegaEvolution wont happen, now let me use your evidence to deny you.

    Lets start, shall we?

    The official pokemon website said that ONLY EX cards will be able to mega evolve, u just posted this image http://pokebeach.com/news/1013/venusaur-ex-xy.png a Venusaur EX, and then this, http://pokebeach.com/news/1113/2-mega-venusaur-ex.jpg.

    As you can see the play of megas into the TCG will be similar to a normal evolution in the TCG, but only EX cards would be able to mega, lest start looking at the cards.

    First well start will Venusaur EX, as you can see this card has “Basic” and “EX” at the top, with his name and HP, you know wath Basic means dont ya it means that it can be sent without needing to evolve him, and EX, well im not really sure wath does it means, but we can say its a better version of a card.

    Then we can see the next one, the mega venusaur, at the top we have “Mega”, its name wich has an M, EX, and its HP, now please before reading this, this that im going to say its pure expeculation, the Mega cards will only be used in EX (thats confirmed actually) and theyll be used like normal evolutions.

    Maybe youre wonderinng then, why does it has the EX, well simple enough, look at its effect in the bottom, it says that when an EX pokemon destoys this card he will be able to draw 3 cards (i cant really see good so it maybe wrong) so the EX is there like is theres a Mega V Mega battle, to make it more epic i guess.

  135. Note to self, when Super Training in Special Defense on Lv. 3. Never use charge shots. So much easier to rapid fire shots until the red box appears, and rapid fire that. Done in 10 seconds, wow.

          • And still no other powerful special ground type moves, with Earth Power being the only one. My wish about having more powerful physical ghost type moves came true (albeit only one new one, but that’s good enough). However, I also wanted more powerful special ghost type moves besides Shadow Ball and Status Ailment Hex. Nope!

    This worries me a little. What if you can’t afford the sub for a week or two, even though it is only $7.99?

    I think they should at least give an expiry time frame, say… Your pokemon are at risk of being deleted if you don’t have a paid sub for 30 days.

    I know $7.99 is less than a price of a chicken burger meal at McDonald’s, slightly more than a cup of coffee, less than the cost of get my car washed, and all that… but there have been times when I’ve had absolutely no money in the bank and it’d be nice to have a small window where I don’t lose my pokemon.

        • Pokemon Bank is an optional service that allows you to store many Pokemon, and also creates a way to transfer your old Pokemon. You’re not being forced to use it. If your subscription is going to run out, and you can’t afford it at the time, transfer your Pokemon to your game so they’re safe until you can come up with the change. Some people don’t even really need the bank outside of wanting to transfer their old favorites.

          • And it’s a yearly fee at a minimal price, I really don’t see this being an issue for most people, otherwise they wouldn’t be playing a $40 game in the first place.

          • With all due respect, you seem to be playing out a prerecorded “This is how we deal with sub whiners” script.

            I’m not “whining” about the sub. I’m simply worried that if the sub lapses for any reason, that I may lose 3000 pokemon.

            I don’t expect the optional service to be given to me for free. I just want Gamefreak to be a little forgiving.

          • That said. I’m sure they’ll send out reminder emails… but email services are not always reliable, so… Not very helpful. And I blame Microsoft for that. Don’t ask.

          • Exactly. So they should give a small expiry window where your pokemon are safe even if you can’t access them until you resub.

            Doesn’t even have to be 30 days. could be 7 days. could be 48 hours.

          • They do… They give you a window after it expires to withdraw your pokemon or renew, but they couldn’t give you forever or else no one would ever renew unless they needed to use pokemon bank. Nintendo/Gamefreak is a company, and a company’s goal is to make money, if anything the are being extremely nice with the $5 a year for a service that stores and transports pokemon

  160. So i have a question. If you breed a Destiny knot Pokemon and an Everstone Pokemon, are the Ivs and nature guaranteed, or just one or the other? I wanted to know, because i bred my 5IV T.flame with an everstone adamant one, and the kids were mostly 3IV

    • Everstone will always pass down the nature of the parent holding it. Destiny Knot passes down 5 random IVs from both parents. So a 5 of 12 chance.

    • Everstone is GUARANTEED for whatever nature the parent holding it is. Destiny Knot takes five RANDOM IVs of the 12 possible between the two parents, and transfers them.

        • Both having six would be the best/best scenario. Five is just as good though. In your case, the Destiny Knot is taking 3 IVs that are perfect from your good Talonflame, 2 random ones from the Adamant one, and then the final is randomly generated between 0-31. Even breeding two perfect 6 IVs does not guarantee a perfect 6 IV. It’s only 3%

          • Here’s what ya do. Breed the Adamant with the 5 IV. Take the best of that batch (one of the Adamant 3 IVs) and replace the original with it and give it the Everstone. This gives you a higher chance of getting more than 3 perfect IVs now, and all being Adamant. Repeat again until a 4 IV appears. Replace the 3 IV, etc. Then, you can either breed the 5 IV and 4 IV until you get another 5 IV, or replace the 5 IV (if it’s a Male) with another Male from the same egg group with 4+ perfect IVs, at least being one that you DON’T have on the Female to breed it onto it. There are many options lol

You know what might be another sign pointing to a new region in the sequel game to x and y, the only form of gastrodon available in the game is the West Coast variant meaning if there was to be a new region (Looking at the map of Kalos the only place a new region could be is to the east) there would be the East coast variant. This probably doesn’t seem that significant, but gamefreak could have easily just made both version encounterable in x and y 😛

    Meta Metagross (Metagrossite – Steel/Fighting) – Iron Fist ability. Has an overall increase in speed and attack. Iron Fist ability boosts its Meteor Mash, Thunderpunch, Bullet Punch, Ice Punch, Hammer Arm etc.

    • Mine would be:
      Mega Luxray (Luxrite-Electric/Dark) – Huge power, Simple, or Contrary ability. Has an increase in speed, attack and bulk. If it had Simple I would give it more stat boosting moves, and if it had contrary give it more moves the decrease stats.
      If it had huge power I would decrease its attack stat by 20 to be able to give a bigger boost to it in other stats so like:
      Mega Luxray (Huge Power)
      Hp-99
      Atk-100
      Def-100
      Sp. Atk-95
      Sp Def.-90
      Spe.-120

      • In doubles you can use swagger on a teammate with a confusion healing item and get a +2 boost. Flatter would work the same way only withSp. Attack. Basically the purpose of confusion is to pay a price for a possible +3 or +4 in one turn and to prevent almost instant KOs. They’re to balance the teams.

Just went to the iv checker, this batch was much better. perfect IVs one had five, two had four and the other three. but what was wrong might you ask the ability, it was a bunch of ass. who the hell runs filter on a mr.mime everything else was perfectly fine. I wasn’t gonna spend 200 BP on something I could just breed for free so I slapped the day care man round the face and his wife came out and sprayed my eyes with mace. I was rushed to the center fast as an alakazam then I had cheese and ham as my filling whilst in my hospital bed, just chilling. WORD!

            Mist Ball isn’t too exciting, just a white ball forms over head and fires at the opponent. Luster Purge looks sweet, the top of the battle field lights up and then the opponent is attacked!

          • Sadly I don’t. I used Metronome in wild encounters.

            For Spacial Rend, There’s a pink glow around the screen with slashes across the opponent. Then, the screen “breaks” like how it breaks when you encounter the Swords of Justice in BW and B2W2.

            That’s a shame about Mist Ball. I was hoping they would have upgraded it. Luster Purge sounds sweet! My bro and I can’t wait to transfer Latios and Latias to XY so we can Megaevolve them and try them out!

          • Ohhhhhhhhhhhh that sounds amazing!!!! The only 3 moves I haven’t seen yet are Spacial Rend, Roar of Time, and Sacred Fire.

          • If I’m unable to see Roar of Time (saw Shadow Force in the Bank trailer, albeit briefly), then I’ll just wait until the Bank is out and use my Shiny Dialga to see it’s signature move.

            Out of curiosity, can Metronome use Relic Song and Techno Blast? I’m afraid I might not be able to transfer my Meloetta and Genesect because I got them from PokéGen (although I made them legit but still).

          • Metronome can spawn any move I believe, except of course Metronome itself xD

            Forgot to mention I’ve also seen Fushion Flare, Fushion Bolt, Bolt Strike, Blue Flare, and Glaciate 😀

          • I hope so too. They’re from “A Faraway Place” but the Keldeo I got from Game Stop is from “A Lovely Place”. That’s what worries me. Everything else is legit.

  442. Lol, some Passerby challenged me this morning. Battled me the first time, he used Yveltal, and other Pokemon like Blaziken, Tyranitar, etc. Mush (Breloom) swept his team xD Spore, Spore, Spore.

    So then he got mad I guess, and challenged me again 2 minutes later, this time he also had Mewtwo on his team. I led off with Robin, set up 3 Swords Dance, and swept :3

        • well it’s just…sure if you want to use smogon rules for fun, both players agree, then that’s fine. but since most of them think that smogon is the official rules and get pissed off and even start bashing you for not going by the rules constantly, i just can NOT stand them at all so I try my best to stay away from them. Do what you want, but don’t be a dick to others about it (talking to them not you). but it’s up to you haha. sorry about the mini rant, they just make me that mad….

          • Yeah I agree with you, I only use there rules for singles (Evasion and Sleep clause makes everything a lot less frustrating XD), but in doubles I only do VGC because thats the official battle style according to game freak 🙂

          • i don’t use smogon rules at all. and that makes it all the more satisfying when i use Darkrai to put all their pokemon to sleep

          • truthfully I only like sleep and evasion clause, and I like the tiering system because it lets every pokemon get a place to fight, but I only expect other players to follow smogon’s rules when I’m playing on pokemon showdown 🙂 I don’t expect them to follow any rules if I’m playing on wifi

          • well that’s good then haha. showdown is smogon’s place really (last i knew. i don’t know that much about them). hell, i’ve been planning on putting together a team that is completely against smogon just for the hell of it haha. i don’t care if that makes me sound like an ass, but it’s my way of getting back at them for being assholes about it.

          • well have fun with that then haha. and another fun thing about going against people that only use smogon rules, you have a huge advantage if you aren’t using them. they’ve restricted themselves so much so there’s so much they won’t do to you and so much you’ll be able to do to them haha (sleep, evasion, drizzle/swift swim, etc.) it’s awesome.

  448. Before I start studying, I want to leave the thread with an intriguing question:

    If there were to be Hoenn Sequels instead of Remakes, what new things could be introduced, gym leaders, rivals, protagonists, villainous teams, plot, etc.? What Generation VI elements would you like to see in those games, Mega Evolution for example?

    • I’d want it to be 10 years after the original games. Tate and Liza will have split up, and Tate has become the second member of the E4.

          • Cool Idea, but I liked that they were the only double gym battle leaders. We need more gym battles like this, like a Sky Gym Battle, a Reverse Type Gym Battle etc.

          • I’ve heard that Winnona should have a sky battle against you when you challenge her for her badge, but the problem with that is that not everyone uses flyers or levitaters, and if they do, they probably haven’t evolved into flyers yet.

            Perhaps you could have an Optional Sky Battle with her after the beating her.

            I’d like to see a reverse gym battle, but that kinda ruins the idea of having him/her specializing in a certain type. Good ideas though.

          • Yeah but Mega Evolution is such an important mechanic now. It’d be dumb of them to have waste their time drawing the designs and including these new evolutions if they weren’t going to be able to mega evolve in other regions.

    • I really hope they don’t do Hoenn sequels.

      If they did, it would be cool if they did an alternate dimension where one of the teams succeeded. Like the world either flooded or dried up, and the environment changes depending on which game you play, while the people have adapted to that environment.

      But I doubt it. If they were to do Hoenn it would be remakes.

And its only a double battle restaurant, with 3 battles, and pan-monkey’s each round. none of them use protect lol. much easier than consecutive tipping in ambrette and doing the le wow battles.

  1045. This is the only problem with this generation. Not the lack of new pokemon. The lack of the types of pokemon. There is only 1 bug type line. 1 poison type line. No full ground type. I was sad i wanted to use a bug type bug not the beginning bug. I was hoping it would have later bugs, I just hope there is a region next to Kalos with new pokemon that would be just GREAT.

        • I don’t know your exact Chansey right now and its moveset, but I would do Toxic over T-Wave, Softboiled, Psychic/Ice Beam, and then move of choice. I would say get Aromatherapy, but you don’t want to breed again

          • What ability with aromatherapy though. And I have gliscor and chansey and working on klefki. They all have toxic. Maybe aromatherapy so I don’t have to use safeguard if it’s going to heal them all but then again I could have her up earlier and my later pokemon don’t get status affected

          • Serene Grace with Aromatherapy. Since you already have two guys with Toxic, I say:
            Blissey – Serene Grace @ Leftovers
            Aromatherapy (Egg Move)
            Thunder Wave (TM)
            Ice Beam (TM)
            Softboiled

          • Wait it’s an egg move….darn….I guess I am going with safeguard but also I could do both psychic and ice beam

          • Oh, yeah. It’s an egg move lol. It’s all up to you though. I don’t see the best use of Safeguard because bringing out Blissey pretty much means it’ll be a stall game and Safeguard will be over by the time another Pokemon comes in

          • it’s a shame too, quiver dance is a very useful yet sparsely distributed stat boost, btw, which poke would you recommend as a Chlorophyll user? Shiftry or Lilligant?

          • Personally? Lilligant. Less weaknesses, and Quiver Dance along with more offenses make it more useful to meh

          • reason I liked Shiftry is that its movepool is much more varied and admittedly has that coolness factor for me, sadly it has piss poor defenses along with an equally piss poor defensive typing that almost ensures it almost always gets OHKO even against neutral hits

          • Yeah, Shiftry’s pretty cool, but something about lilligant makes it alot cooler to me. But, the bigger movepool and STAB coverage is pretty good, and it has Poison Jab for fairies. So, it really depends on personal preference

          • I was hoping to make Shiftry a good counter for Charizard Y, use Chlorophyll to use Drought against it, then prey on its 4x weakness to rock with Rock Slide with Shiftry’s awesome attacking stats

          • That sounds pretty good actually. I’d use it. So unpredictable, or is it? How common is Rock Slide on Shiftry?

          • I never see any Shiftry with Rock Slide, actually, I see no Shiftry in general, Shiftry has a really varied and impressive physical movepool, Fake Out, Rock Slide, Explosion, Brick Break, Power-Up Punch, weirdly enough it only gets two STAB grass physical moves and one of them is an egg move and both are pretty unusable, also it doesn’t learn Poison Jab FYI

          • I know, but the Fairy beating move is pretty good, and it also somewhat helps against other grass pokes, unless it gets Acrobatics, which i think it does. And Shiftry is uncommon, hence the fact that it’s in NU. But, whoever makes these tiers is obviously an idiot, because Shiftry is badass

          • Shiftry is in every tier, and it doesn’t get Acrobatics, but it does get Aerial Ace plus Faint Attack just in case someone is allowed to use evasion plus Faint Attack gets STAB, even then using Shiftry without an item is pretty absurd

          • I figured something like a Liechi Berry and synthesis in the sun. He’d heal, have the attack boost, and get the acrobatics powerup. its all about the situation, and prediction. But, Aerial Ace is pretty good too, and STAB Feint Attack is really good. Haven’t used Shiftry in a while, so i’m the best at working with him

  1184. GUYS!! I GOT IT! Get a bunch of useless Pokemon, and when bank comes out, Wonder trade them. Why? Because Bank Pokemon are unusable in tournaments, and need to be re-bred to be usable, and so that Pokemon can get new moves, like Drill Run Karrablast, so this way, while people IV breed new post bank Pokemon, you can get the rejects without the hard work. Must stock up on WT fodder

    • If you leave your pokemon without payment, after a grace period of unknown time, they will be deleted. So make sure you pay in time. (It’s yearly, but still.)

    • Indeed, they were both EV trained in Speed and Special Attack. My shiny Hydreigon has 4 perfect IVs, but shiny Greninja only has 2.

          • Yup. That trick aside, patience is the main key ingredient here. I once had to wait 4 hours doing Sweet Scent to hunt for the shiny Nidoran. My shiny Nidoking can be a monster to unsuspecting people without Rapid Spin, or don’t think that it’s specially offensive.

          • I knew Nidoking was special, because, despite the attack buff, sheer force, life orb flamethrower, ice beam, t bolt and sludge bomb/earth power is really nasty. People on Pokemon online were really weirded out when i used physical nidoking

  1264. seriously i dont think gamefreak thought this through,the service may be ok but what about special pokemon given out at events that have moves they dont normally have(10 anniversary pikachu who has the move fly) i have to remove fly just so i can put it in Y but that ruins what made it special and i cant use a cheating device 3ds is not hackable and even if it was cheating would just ruin its uniqueness more. ami the only one kinda upset about this? not all pokemon are going to be transferable unless you remove said move that made them special in the first place, that just bothers me.

    • From what I know, you’ll still be able to transfer those. What makes a Pokemon “hacked” is that the Trainer and Secret ID of said Pokemon does not match that of the original trainer. While everyone knows their Trainer ID, their secret ID could only be found using Action Reply or websites like Pokecheck. I’m sure the event Pokemon all have correct IDs and aren’t considered “hacked”

    • Flying Pikachu has been released as an event every single generation since Gen 3, so if Bank doesn’t allow us to transfer pokes with HM moves trust that they will eventually release another Pika event in future.

  1268. 11 days until Pokemon Bank! I should probably organize my pc boxes in X and sort through my pokes in Black to see which are hacked lol. Not my fault, my friend gave me some pokemon now I just have to determine if they’re legit or hacked……how do I do that though??

    • Hacked Pokemon can still be completely legal. The best way to determine this is probably going to see if the Pokemon have the same Trainer ID and Secret ID as the original trainer. Pokecheck is probably your best bet to figure all that out as the website tells you all the information needed when you upload a Pokemon

      • A little contradiction to that would be event Pokemon that you receive that aren’t egg based. Because ID never link up to event Pokemon.

        • But those should still be legal considering they are event Pokemon. Whatever GameFreak uses to generate those Pokemon, I would hope at least, produce completely legal Pokemon

          • I would assume so since Arceus can’t be caught normally (other than Dream World events in the past) so I am sure that they can be transferred. Maybe it just detects corrupted data.

          • While GF is trying to crack down on all those hacked ones used last gen, I’m sure they covered their own tracks so everyone can see their event legendaries in 3D, but I guess we’ll find out very soon anyways

  1335. When we eventually get Hoenn remakes/sequels, I hope to battle Skyla you have to do a Sky Battle. That’ll be dope. And I can’t wait to see Fortree City in 3D. In a way I feel like the big tree/swinging on the vines in XY’s grass gym was a test for the Fortree city – similar to how D/P/P let us walk with a cute poke in the Amity Square before introducing HGSS where we can walk with our pokes.

          • People had accounts on PJN.net and there was a “members” list where you could search for members. The comments ran through a different system, similar to what it was before disqus. The staff used to be more active so that’s how I got to know a lot of them. The “crew” used to be me, Jenny, Jandro, Kinganteros, and Ozy. Dae and PJ were pretty active then as well. We were all pretty close I would say, we shared a lot of personal stuff and such. Although I’m glad that PJN has expanded for sure, but I still feel that nostalgia.

          • Yeah, for sure we are. Nothing can take that away. I’m saying though from the humble beginnings of PJN, it felt more… personal? We got to know each other better? Not sure what I’m tryna say.

  1393. Guys I have a bad idea that sounds good to me for some reason!! How about TWO more games! pokemon V and pokiemon W! It takes pl;ace in east kalos, and pokemon V the legendary is volcanion, and pokemon W… Hoopa, I guess? lol, And the bad guys would be called “team solar” But then in pokemon Z, the heros from both east and west kalos are called to stop an ecological crisis in the newly discoverd “North Kalos” XD and if you pick the hero from x and y, you’ll get the hero of the opposite gender from W and V. And vice-versa. So You have to team up with the other hero (you wont be with him/her ALL the time though) and together you must solve the mystery of the ecological happenings in the large north kalos. Team flare and team solar ban together to make “team solar flare”. In the end you find out team solar flare is trying to wipe out east, west and NORTH kalos!! By using the powers of North Kalos’s VAST ecosystem, They try to wipe out THE WHOLE KALOS REGION. INCLUDING The surrounding regions! So zygarde jumps out too save every one you catch him The hero of the other region actually falls in love with you blahlahblah. In the end you get to visit ALL OF THE OTHER KALOS PARTS. thank you for listening to teh rant. bye now!
