Mega Evolution: Who’s Next?

This post contains spoilers for Pokémon X & Pokémon Y. The comment section of this post will also contain spoilers for the upcoming games. Do NOT proceed it you wish to avoid details on the game.

When Mega Evolutions were revealed a couple of months back, fans were taken totally by surprise wondering what exactly we were being shown. Now that we understand just what Mega Evolutions are, we’re all guessing what Pokémon could be one of the select few to receive a Mega Evolution.

A while ago our close friend AAPF began researching trademark filings for Pokémon names. This research has previously uncovered Pokémon that have since received Mega Evolutions, and it seems highly likely that more Pokémon from this list will receive a Mega Evolution.

The following Pokémon have all had trademark registrations made for their names since the release of Black 2 & White 2, following the trend of other Pokémon with their names trademarked again there is a possibility these Pokémon will receive Mega Evolutions. Pokémon with a * next to their name have recently been confirmed.

  • Gengar*
  • Jynx
  • Gyarados*
  • Scizor
  • Tyranitar
  • Gardevoir*
  • Medicham
  • Banette
  • Abomasnow*
  • Kyogre
  • Kecleon
  • Latias
  • Latios
  • Pinsir
  • Aerodactyl*
  • Houndoom
  • Groudon
  • Aggron
  • Plusle
  • Minun
  • Sceptile
  • Rayquaza
  • Absol*
  • Heracross

It should be mentioned that this list is not a definitive list of Pokémon that could receive Mega Pokémon, that actual list could be a lot larger, or significantly smaller and we won’t find out until the games release. What Pokémon do you want to receive a Mega Evolution? Let us know!

  2. Hello, I’ve been lurking on Pokejungle for about a month now, and thought it was time to make an introduction. I’m getting X, and 6 days seems like so long to wait. So far, Goomy’s my favorite Pokemon X&Y, and he’s getting a surefire spot on my team. I’m picking Froakie, and then Chespin on the copy of Y I’m getting with my Christmas money. Okay, I’m kind of rambling, but hello Pokejungle!

  3. I hope, but don’t expect, there to be more megas in terms of number than those on this list. It’s got terrible generation balance and not enough starters in terms of content.

  4. Well since zaygarde is based of that dragon that gnaws at the world trees makes me wonder if they put its serpent form will it have a eagle form too???

  5. I want Jirachi and Deoxys mega evolutions. For Jirachi, it’s true eye can be opened and it looks more menacing. And for deoxys, i’d love to see a combinations of i’s forms or something.

    • I weirdly see deoxys as living in bee-like space colonies (deoxys forms are like castes, the mutation just allows them to flip at will) with the mega-evolution resembling the queen of the colony.

  6. I want to see so bad the Mega Evolutions of Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Latios and Latias because I am a huge fan of Emerald!

  7. You know, when I heard there were going to be only 70 new Pokémon, I was really disappointed. But then, I started to look at each new poke individually and I changed my mind. They are so high quality!! Look at Avalugg, for instance, it is SUCH A BADASS. Of course, there are some really ugly ones, like Binacle. But hey, we all love Voltorb, don’t we? In the end, what really matters is quality, not quantity.

      • Which would you prefer, 100+ unmemorable Pokemon, or 70ish that are interesting, distinctive and memorable (imo)?
        I’d go for the 70.

          • I have something against mega-evo’s because of the fact that they killed my absol and mawile evolution hopes.

          • Who knows? There’s gonna be so much other things to do on the move to a new gen+system. 100 cool mons would be great, but I’m happy with what we have. I defo think the quality is higher this gen.

        • I would love that if that was the case.

Let’s be honest here, this generation designs are not far more superior than the others. Like every other generarions, it has good designs and some bad designs. So of course I would like to have more amount of Pokemon.

In my memory there is no generation with 100+ unmemorable Pokemon. That’s a really unfair statement.

          • You could be right. There is a lot of hype around the way everything was leaked. But still, Goomy counts for a lot <3

      • Maybe. I agree to a certain point. Like, there are only 3 new Bug types. 3!! THAT’S PREPOSTEROUS! They could’ve put mre effort in that, yes.

      • I’d rather go for the 70 memorable (and easier to understand) and distinctive Pokemon other than 100 new and unmemorable Pokemon. I agree with you, sometimes quantity builds the quality but in this case, I think we’re just asking for too much.

    • Yes, exactly! I don’t think there has been a gen where I have liked so many of the new Pokemon!
They also have made an effort to make those Pokemon really interesting, eg Aegislash.

    • I agree I love almost every Pokemon introduced so far, except Binacle, Barbaracle, and Diggersby. It’s going to be so hard to pic a team this gen, because there are so many cool looking Pokemon with good type combos!

  8. There is something that concerns me with the leakers:

1.) Have they even completed the pokedex yet?
2.) It seems that they are only training Kalos pokemon.. How would we know weather or not an old pokemon evolves if they are not even trying?Maybe some old pokemon evolve with trade.
    3) They could have possibly missed some new pokemon in some routes. (remember, people! Sneasle was very rare and only available in KANTO and in Mt.Silver, which brings me to my last point)
4.) What if there are some hidden routes no one has explored yet, and they find some trainer with a newly evolved pokemon of an oldie in it? Remember Oldie evolutions didn’t count in the D/P pokedex until platinum (still waiting for my shuckle and dunsparce to evolve…)

P.S. Even if there is TRULY only 69 pokemon in the game, I’m sure it will seem like more once we start playing the game.

    • They have apparently seen the national dex is sorta what we are basing it on. So far it is adding up. However, I gotta say this gen is starting to feel a lot like Sinnoh. Not very many new pokemon, and we got Mega Evolutions for older ones instead of new baby/regular evo pokemon. Overall though I’m rather pleased. The new pokemon all seem memorable and cool, and Mega Evolutions are bring relevancy to old pokemon. Also, since this gen has a very large pokedex for the area, I think it won’t at all feel stale like Sinnoh did (until platinum). Still interested in seeing if there is a legendary trio though…Guess they werent part of the main story this time?

  9. Something to note about this Gen’s leaks:
I think they were much for fun to follow and get hyped over because they were all about exploration. I’m very glad that 3DS hacking is not very advanced; the steady trickle is far more exciting than the ROM infodump. If it were that way, everything would be already discovered!
But we still have moveset changes, new moves and items, trainer rosters etc all to find through exploration, and that’s exciting!

  10. Decided to try to avoid the leaks about the Gym Leaders, Elite 4 and the Champion, but then I opened up Facebook… Might as well follow every new leak now!
