Pokémon GO’s 9th anniversary event and Quaxly Community Day detailed

July is shaping up to be a busy month in Pokémon GO as the mobile game celebrates its 9th anniversary. In addition, the Water-type Paldean Partner Pokémon Quaxly will be featured in next month’s Community Day. Read about both events below.

Pokémon GO’s 9th Anniversary Party event details

The 9th Anniversary Party event will take place from Tuesday, July 1, at 10:00 a.m. until Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. It features the addition of a Gimmighoul holding a special 9th anniversary coin! If you’re after this special Gimmighoul, it can be encountered through the free Timed Research or Field Research tasks.

Event bonuses

During the event, the following bonuses will be active:

  • Increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
  • Increased chance to get Lucky Pokémon in trades.
  • PokéStops may turn gold without a Golden Lure Module.
  • Increased chance to encounter Shiny Pikachu wearing a cake hat and Shiny Eevee wearing a party hat from raids.
  • Gimmighoul holding a 9th anniversary coin will have a 9th anniversary–themed Special Background!
  • Friendship levels will increase faster than normal through opening Gifts, trading Pokémon, or battling together in raids, Gyms, or Trainer Battles!
  • Chance of finding 9 or 99 (or maybe more!) Gimmighoul Coins when you spin a PokéStop with a Golden Lure Module.
  • During the 9th Anniversary Party, you may discover party hats in the wild. Tapping on them will award items, or encounters with event-themed Pokémon.
  • Also, for the first time in Pokémon GO, you might even encounter Shiny Gimmighoul—if you’re lucky!

Additionally, three other bonuses will be active for 24-hour periods:

  • July 1 at 10:00 a.m. – July 3 at 10:00 a.m. local time: 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed in an Incubator on these days
  • July 3 at 10:00 a.m. – July 5 at 10:00 a.m. local time: 2× XP for catching Pokémon
  • July 5 at 10:00 a.m. – July 6 at 8:00 p.m. local time: 2× Stardust for catching Pokémon

Wild Encounters

The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild.

  • Bulbasaur wearing a party hat*
  • Charmander wearing a party hat*
  • Squirtle wearing a party hat*

Starting Pokémon will appear on certain dates

One-Star Raids

  • Pikachu wearing a cake hat*
  • Eevee wearing a party hat*

*An asterisk denotes that this Pokémon may appear in its Shiny form

Purchasable goods

Fans can choose to purchase the 9th Anniversary Party Ultra Ticket Box through the Pokémon GO web store to also receive a party hat accessory and the Masterwork Research: Wish Granted will also be available to purchase for players who do not already have it. New stickers and wristband avatar accessories will also be added to the game as an optional purchase.

Quaxly Community Day details

July will feature Quaxly as the star of the Pokémon GO Community Day and it will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.

Quaquaval will be able to learn Hydro Cannon when evolved from Quaxwell during the event and following week. It is a Charged Attack with a base power of 80 in Trainer Battles and 90 when used in Gyms and Pokémon Raids.

In addition, the Charged Attack Aqua Step can be learned by Quaquaval starting with the Community Day and will be added to its general move pool. The attack has a base power of 55 in all game modes but will also raise the user’s Attack by one stage in Trainer Battles.

During the Community Day, the following bonuses will be in effect:

  • Increased likelihood to encounter Shiny Quaxly
  • 3× Catch Stardust.
  • 2× Candy for catching Pokémon.
  • 2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon.
  • Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours.
  • Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will last for three hours.
  • Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!
  • One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of three for the day.*
  • Trades will require 50% less Stardust.*
  • Event-themed Field Research tasks
  • Free Community Day Special Background Timed Research

An optional paid Community Day Special Research will be available to purchase as well.

Normal and Shiny Quaxly, Quaxwell and Quaquaval can be seen below. The Shiny line features a much lighter blue.
