Kanto or Sinnoh: Which Will See Switch Remake?

Many fans are eager for a return to Sinnoh—a region left unexplored since Pokémon Platinum was released in 2008 for the Nintendo DS—but it isn’t necessarily the only title which may see a remake in Generation VIII or beyond. Pokémon Red & Blue/Green never got a true remake on the Nintendo DS or 3DS, although Kanto was seen in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Solid information is nil on the Nintendo Switch Pokémon game, but interestingly enough rumors about Kanto and Sinnoh being remade keep popping up.

Kanto

FOR: Haven’t seen Sevii Islands in almost 15 years, no true remake in just as long, more mature Red & Blue (JP Green) teased in Gen VII

AGAINST: Already saw Kanto in the Nintendo DS in 2009, Red & Blue have already gotten a remake, fans may be tired of the original story

Sinnoh

FOR: Original Diamond & Pearl games came out over 10 years ago, fan interest in seeing Gen IV again is very high

AGAINST: Game Freak may be waiting to release their next remake considering Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire only came out 3 years ago

What do you think?

  1. I feel like both are equally likely to be the next region to be remade, but I’d much prefer to see a Sinnoh remake on the Switch. We’ve had Kanto in four different sets of games whilst Sinnoh has only appeared once. Let us battle Cynthia in 3D with Mega Garchomp!

  2. GBA = Fire Red/Leaf Green (Kanto Remakes)
DS = Heart Gold/Soul Silver (Johto Remakes)
    3DS = Alpha Spphire/Omega Ruby (Hoenn Remakes)

  3. If Gen 8 is a new region, it’s sure that Gen 4 remakes will happen. I really hope we won’t see any more Kanto remakes.

  4. Thoughts on this pattern?

Gen 1: Late 1996 (New console)
Gen 2: Late 1999 (New console)
Gen 3: Late 2002 (Same console)
Gen 4: Late 2006 (New console)
Gen 5: Late 2010 (Same console)
Gen 6: Late 2013 (New console and new requirements they have to adapt too with 3d)
Gen 7: Late 2016 (Same console)
Gen 8: Late 2019 (New console and new requirements)

      • Seems fair. 2018 sounds a bit too early, i mean i wouldnt mind it of course but rather they take the time to perfect their game the way they envisioned it

      • It depends on how long they’ve been developing it. If it’s been in conceptual stages since before SuMo were out, I can see it making a 2018 release if it follows standard Pokémon structure and size, if it is just Pokémon on handheld but upscaled I can see it coming out in early 2019 (late 2018 if they rush a bit and get more work done), and if it’s more BOTWy in terms of innovation I can see it coming late 2019.

Pokémon typically launches in Fall (typically end of Q3/first two third of Q4) because that means holiday sales and it’s just generally a good time for release, whereas soon after holidays may not be the best time to release because they miss out on the holidays and people may of already spent their money. If it’s coming early 2019 it’ll probably be March at the earliest imo

        So tl;dr

        Q4 2018
        End of Q1/Start of Q2 2019
        End of Q3/Stert of Q4 2019

In descending order of content change/addition

  5. Why is everybody focussing on the Switch?
Why won’t gen 8 be released on the new handheld? The one that replaces the 3DS. Or do we get the Switch Mini?

  6. I have to say Sinnoh remakes is what i want more. The region design may be boring (like kanto), but I would still appreciate it much more. We may get more megas, and remix to sinnoh music could be great. Plus marketing wise I think wayyy more people want sinnoh remakes than kanto. I actually know people who have said they won’t play another Pokemon game until sinnoh remakes. Never met a person say that about Kanto. Which Is another problem with Kanto remakes. I don’t really know anyone who wouldDIE for kanto remakes. With all these Kanto references and homages I think we are pretty good on Kanto. Maybe if they didnt do something for Kanto every generation I would want it more, but we see Kanto pokemon so many times. We see magikarp, gastly, machop, butterfree, Geodude, goldeen, almost every generation. Its so annoying

  7. I know Switch is a hybrid, but it is not something you throw in your bag like a 3DS (It is big and expensive). So I hope these games with also be available om a mini version of the Switch (the next handheld). Otherwise they would excluded a lot of players.

    • I could see them releasing a smaller, cheaper switch model like the Wii mini or 2DS but I really can’t see a true handheld anytime soon because it’d reflect poorly on their hybrid console if they put out a pure handheld so soon

That said the joycons are so small all ready you’d probably need baby hands to use mini joycons :p

        • I guess but the problem with that is that it would remove a lot of options from switch games such as local mutliplayer using the Joycons seperatly or games that require/allow you to use them in different ways. At that point it’d feel more like a different console than a cheaper Switch

      • I want the New Switch DX XL or whatever it’ll be called, the one that fixes the problems and is better like all consoles seem to have now.

    • I carry mine around in my bag all the time. Switch already is selling gangbusters compared to what 3DS did and what a successor will do. They positioned it as a ‘third pillar’ again, to not hurt their 3DS business which was wrapping up and to be able to revert back if Switch didn’t work out, but it did so you won’t see anything else soon.

  8. Honestly I’m kinda conflicted on this one, because a gen 4 remake is the most logical step but Gen 6 and 7 had so much foreshadowing to Kanto and how they’re appealing to gen 1 fans latel that makes me dubious. But even though Kanto has still potential, I believe that Sinnoh deserves the remakes the most, Kanto has already been explored numerous times.

I don’t think that the first Pkm Switch games are gonna be remakes tho

    • Plot twist: Lockstin is a secret GF employee and he has been right all along with his Reset theory. Gen 8 wont be a thing for another 10-15 years

  9. Well I can tell you one thing. I can say with 100% certainty the we don’t get sinnoh remakes as our first switch games. That much is sure. People thinking we’ll get a normal remake before a new game in general are nuts. As for a Kanto return? I think as far as starting on the Switch a return to Kanto makes more sense than a return to Sinnoh. I’m still very interested in the idea that we may be looking at a reboot game where it’s technically set in Kanto, but the story is very different and we actually have me Pokemon in the region.

  10. So real talk. How do you guys think they’ll handle gen 5 remakes? They kind of have to remake BW2. It’s not like regular 3rd versions where the story is exactly the same. You think they do a duel release of some sort where both BW and BW2 come out around the same time? Maybe even as a single package?

  11. I personally think sinnoh remakes will be the next remakes. That said I do believe Kanto remakes/sequels will eventually happen. Probably on the 25th anniversary in 2021

  12. The “Against” point for Sinnoh can also be made for Kanto. It’s also important to remember that Kalos was very similar to Kanto with all the fan-service. Out of the 151 original, only 8 are unobtainable.

I’d rather see Sinnoh next, but I’d like to see what Pokemon on the Switch looks like first. These remakes have the capacity to be graphically amazing if done right, and I really love Sinnoh as a geographical region.

  13. @Monkeyfuzz:disqus you asked earlier about Ginger so I’ve got it now
She’s Mild natured, Quick Tempered and stats of at level 15
    HP: 40
    Attack: 25
    Defense: 20
    Sp. Attack: 23
    Sp. Defense: 19
    Speed: 25

    Her moves are
Cut, Work Up, Vine Whip and Lick

    • OK so that raises Special Attack and Lowers Defense. In which case I suggest using either Energy Ball or Giga Drain (You’ll need to tutor it in White 2), Rock Slide, maybe Focus Blast or Brick Break and if you can remove Cut maybe Leech Seed. Seed Bomb is available as a Re-learnable move as Simisage if you are intent on using that.

  14. Wow my Woobat evolved earlier than I thought it would! I guess the 2 massages I had that woman in Castelia city give him really helped. After him fainting a few times I thought it’d take a lot long than lvl 22 to get him there, but now we gots ourselves a Swoobat so that’s great!. He’ll come in handy against Burgh for sure.

    • I thought the same about my Bunneary in US

And oddly my Pokémon must have an affinity for high teens for friendship as my Riolu from W2, my Chansey from Diamond and Bunneary in US all evolved at levels 17-18

Only one Pokémon though I’ve ever had never evolves quickly through friendship, Eevee
