The next main Pokémon title has already been confirmed to be a Nintendo Switch game, but not much else is officially known at this point. This hasn’t stopped some Chinese sources from sharing potential information about the game though. Our intrepid rumor reporter PokéSirena (you can follow her on Twitter) has helped us track down and translate the latest online gossip. These are from some of the same people who knew about Rainbow Rocket before it was revealed which is why we’ve taken particular note.
- The Chinese localization team has already finished translating the games’ script
- There will be no new Mega Evolutions introduced in the new games
- Z-Moves return and now use motion control to activate using the Joy-Cons
- Central plot revolves around the conflict between tradition and innovation
- Region inspiration has been rumored to be Spain or Italy
- Release to come late 2018 (~December) or early 2019
These details pale in comparison to what has also been said though, and that is the games feature a new, simplified battle system which has been compared to that of the Digimon World games. For those not familiar with them they use a real-time battle style in which moves are still selected via menu and include the option to attack or block moves from your opponent. It has also been compared to the battle system of Pokkén Tournament in which moves are either attacks, blocks or grabs and work in a rock-scissors-paper fashion.
If the above were to be true it would certainly be a change for longtime Trainers and could have the potential to disrupt the deep strategy game competitive players love.

Oh god, if true, then I hope that motion control Z-Move can be turned off. It sounds ridiculous, and would look even stupider at tournaments.

I hate these rumours, only one of these sound actually nice and it’s the region inspiration. However, the other stuff are……not as good. At all. I despise the fact they instead are focusing on Z-Moves which I don’t hate but I’d rather have more new Mega Evolutions, despise the fact they’re using tradition for the second generation in a row, in which most likely there won’t be Gyms, and that the new battle system sounds like garbage. I’m sorry but if people want to play like a Pokken-esque version they can just play Pokken, not an actual mainline Pokemon game. Ugh, I’m desperately hoping these are false because if not this gen might be my least favourite, or at least one i won’t really enjoy.
if this was true, the battle system is nothing like Pokken, Pokken wasn’t mentioned whatsoever, that kind of battle system wouldn’t work anyway,
Mega Evolutions however are finished, that part is at least true

No megas and only focusing in Z-Moves sounds bad to me and I don’t see how a plot about tradition and innovation could work in a Pkm game but it’s probably something minor anyways. Only good thing is an italian region imo

This is so lame if true! Are they completely ignoring the fact that’s everyone loves megas and hates z moves??? WTF?! The battle system should be improved upon, not worsened up. I think Game Freak’s trying to desperately pull a Mario and Zelda with changing everything but in a good way. Too bad so far it seems that if these are true, they’d get much more of a negative reception.

I didnt get that thing of the new game strategy :/ its gonna be like pokkem tournament where you have an srea snd you can move free snd you have attacks that are move? Well its gonna suck if esch pokemon has movedet snd we cant change it but i’ll be imposible if they try yo create every single attack a new move for esch pokemon. We will have like 900 pokemon or more snd to create the animation of every single move its takes hard qork and planty amount of memory space and also you have to design for each pokemon. I would love it if they accomplish this but its kinda impossible

Interesting rumor. I personally hate the idea of z moves returning over Megas. And not sure how I feel about the possibility of the battle system being overhauled. Will reserve judgement until we get full confirmation of that.

They’re trying to be “cool” and copy what Mario and Zelda did; completely overhaul stuff.
Those series didn’t simplify, they expanded.
I know, I know. I just meant that their Switch versions helped expand them size-wise and feature-wise, whereas these rumours make it sound like Gen 8 will be reverting existing features.

The battle system is already simple enough for younger kids to understand. The deep part is for others.
Maybe they want to make a combat system that takes full advantage over 3d environments and that comat ended becoming simpler than that. But still doesn’t make sense like how can you make the current battle system simpler than it is?

As much as I like Gen VII, the no new megas bit is one big flaw I have with it(along with the concept of Cosmog evolving into Solgaleo/Lunala instead of SUMMONING them and the fact there is THREE Type Nulls in-game lore instead of ONE)
I still find Gen VII to be enjoyable
Although the SOS Battles needed to be worked on(like the option of allowing the wild pokemon to summon or not)
And the framerates, Gamefreak really did pushed the 3DS to its limits there

Mega evolution was the focus of gen 6. Gen 7 and 8 will focus on something else. People shouldn’t be surprised there are no new ones. They have gone past that.

I built my Charizard Mega Construx set and my new Lego city set and played Kirby Squeak Squad for the most part

It wasn’t too hard, though the mega construx directions can sometimes be a bit confusing because they fit more steps on a page than lego does. The body part is a bit monotonous and can be annoying if you don’t pay attention to what you’re doing. But the end model is so nice…I love it. I’m gonna build Blastoise today
They should add the option to select your battle system at yourself: the traditionally one or the new one.
Guys I really can’t figure out ultra warp ride… Even if I fly right through the orange spheres solgaleo sometimes just doesn’t pick them up… Also I almost always get sucked in by a random ultra wormhole…

I wished that Ultra Lusamine was actually battleable in SM during the final villain fight. I was so pumped up when I saw her design and thought that is why she only had a team of 5 Pokémon and that she would be the 6th one we would battle on her team.
