Showdown: Villainous Teams — Round II Grunts & Admin

Showdown is back and better than ever! For those that don’t know what our Showdown series is, or need a reminder: Showdown is where we hold a series of polls on our site and ask readers to vote for their top choice until we found our champion.

Voting periods will run for one week at a time and new rounds will begin on the following dates:

Round I: Leaders — December 2nd
Round II: Grunts & Admin — December 11th
Round III: Plans — December 16th
Round IV: Overall — December 23rd
Winner Announcements — December 30th

The results for Round I: Leaders are in! We’re happy to announce that the winner of the first round of our latest Showdown is… Cyrus, Leader of Team Galactic! Cyrus ended up with only a slight 2% lead over Giovanni of Team Rocket. Full results can be found below!

Note: Ghetsis and Colress have been combined into one percentage and will be counted as such for final vote counts.

In Round II everyone will be voting on their top Grunts and/or villains of teach team. Grunts are often some of the most commonly met trainer types in our Pokémon adventures. Admins provide support to Team Leaders and can prove quite a challenge in battle. Remember you’re voting for your favourite overall choice and a vote for Team Magma counts as a vote for both Third Generation and Sixth Generation iterations, for example.

Team Rocket

Admin members: Archer, Ariana, Petrel and Proton

Team Rocket’s admin staff are classified as Executive Trainers. These trainers all do their best to stop trainers in their attempts to foil the plans of Team Rocket, with challenging battle and no limit to the execution of their plans.

Grunts of Team Rocket are often considered fairly easy opponents, with a limited set of Pokémon used on their teams they rarely pose a true threat to trainers. Rocket Grunts seemed to have their appearance based on that of a typical cartoon criminal.

Team Magma

Admin members: Courtney and Tabitha

The two Admin members of Team Magma both play large roles in assisting Maxie to achieve his plans for Team Magma and the Pokémon world. Team Magma Grunts and Admin are mostly themed around the colour red, with no other obvious influences.

Team Aqua

Admin members: Matt and Shelly

Matt and Shelly play the same roles as Courtney and Tabitha: assisting their team leader in achieving their goals. The entirety of Team Aqua has their aesthetics themed around pirates, particularly their outfits.

Team Galactic

Admin members: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Charon

Admin members of Team Galactic fall under the Commander trainer class. Each Commander of Team Galactic is named after an object within our solar system. All members of Team Galactic wear outfits that are visually like spacesuits, this results in people who unaware of the team to refer to them as spacemen.

Team Plasma

Admin members: Seven Sages, Zinzolin, Shadow Triad

Team Plasma is the only villainous group to have two groups of individuals who act as the higher members of their team. Both groups are loyal to their leader. Plasma member are themed around two distinct themes: in Black and White they appear to have had their appearance influenced by Medieval Knights, whilst in Black 2 and White 2 they have strong classical pirate influences.

Team Flare

Admin members: Aliana, Bryony, Celosia, Mable, Xerosic, Team Flare Admins

Team Flare Admins are extremely relentless in their attempts to halt the player in foiling the plans of their leader Lysandre. Each of these members are likely named in reference to classification of solar flares. All members of Team Galactic are seen as highly fashionable and well dressed.

Team Skull

Admin members: Plumeria

Plumeria is the single admin member of Team Skull and the only character with the Team Skull Admin trainer class. Team Skull is formed of members who failed the Island Challenge in the Alola region. They are the only villainous team to now have a distinct goal other than causing trouble.

          • That’s about how long I have been watching him too. I think it’s also that I got more attached to him when both my grandfathers passed away in 2013. In a way he became my third grandfather. He didn’t know it but he helped me get through my breakup earlier in the year. His videos always managed to make me laugh when I was upset. I just wish I could have thanked him for it in all honesty

  2. When you first Played Pokemon, Did you Just Brute Force it on a Single pokemon with others basically functioning as Sacrifices to Revive, or did you actually Train up a Team?

  3. Star I just saw someone’s take on that picture you showed earlier and it was changed to be very suggestive (Ash lying on his back looking embarrassed or blushing of sorts) and I must say…. I want this to stop right now

      • Because you’re using a bad team
If showdown people see you’re using garbage, they won’t hesitate to point out the one trillion flaws the team has

          • Not mine that means I gotta drop Mamoswine, and that wooly bully won me countless matches via ice shard

It’s pretty much a Stealth rocker and really nothing special, I mean yeah intimidate but it really doesn’t do anything that special

          • Eh I like my team just the way it is and it does fine, I wish I had a better special attacker other than Nidoking tho

          • Which gets killed instantly to Nidoking’s Ice Beam or Two shotted by Ice Shard if I came in after intimidate

          • Jeez it’s been years since I’ve seen one
But still a transition now would be tough, I’m just so used to my team, I know it’s strengths and weaknesses and if I ran Lando who would I replace

            Excadrill (can’t lose)

Hippowdon (Sand is my bread and butter)

Garchomp (could lose but I like to Rough Skin or Mega evolve to take advantage of Sand Force)

Mamoswine (Really can’t stress Ice Shard’s importance)

Nidoking (my only Special attacker that can do anything to Ferro, Skarm, scizor and occasionally Pellipper)

Seismitoad (honestly he’s just my Water absorber and special wall)

          • But….i love Nidoking… so many battles I’ve won because of his Focus Sash, so many Scizors beefed up to the max expecting to sweep only for Focus Sash to save me and get a face full of Flamethrower, or any 4x Ice weakness dragon getting Ice Beamed, all the times I tbolted Skarmory and they switch into Lando just to get ice beamed…I could never part with him…

And I know you’re gonna give me crap for that too, because it’s not a cookie cutter team and yadda yadda anything to make me feel inferior

And it’s really Earth Power, Sludge Wave, HP Ice, Focus Blast/Psychic

          • Im genuinely trying to help you here. If you lose because you use situational stuff, people will get on you for it. You become an extremely easy target

          • I lose because I have very little to work with that other teams have while a lot of types have plenty of stuff and not to mention that Ground is just plain struggling these days

I don’t have speedy special sweepers to fill the cracks (Nidoking, Camerupt and Lando)

            No sticky web
No Shell Smash (One day Golem…one day)

At most Stealth Rocks and maybe Toxic Spikes if I ever ran Nidoqueen

I mean you win plenty of bouts because of Sticky Web support

          • Ehh M Beedrill is just U-Turn, Fell Stinger, Drill Run, Poison Jab

I mean with that speed it’s not like it does anything else

          • Also shell smash is a fucking meme set, it’s incredibly easy to counter because literally only shitmons and cloyster get it

          • Ahem
            haze
            priority
            faster mons
            choiced mons
            something that tanks icicle
            intimidate
            clear smog
            roar
            whirlwind
            focus sash
            sturdy
            weather + protect
            Another cloyster
            Do I need to continue?

          • Haze would have to somehow either be right on it at the very start to eliminate before it got swept

Priority is possible but still its really just mach punch and maybe sucker punch it can tank it

i’ll give you faster scarfed mons but depends if they can pull it off

it still can try bank off Liquidation and Rock Blast

            Intimidate just slows it down

roar and Whirlwind minus priority and will definitely be hurt if its not immediately active

            …..Focus Sash……..Skill Link……

Sure Cloyster can handle a little sand or not use Liquidation at half power, or if they’re smart get another shell smash on the protect

And another cloyster it would be boil down to who makes the smarter run, either trying to get the other guy to shell smash first and rock blasting it if its running a sash or if its white herb its all down to speed tie rolls

          • The point is, a majority of these scenarios require special cirumstances to even be countered. Cloyster is incredibly easy to kill when it shell smashes and shell smash in itself is a shitty set

          • So you’re saying in that extremely small window of opportunity it’s easy to kill, and what happens if you can’t get an attack when it smashes or that you’re stuck on a set up

          • No it’s the reverse
I’m saying that 95/100 carry a way to dispatch cloyster
the 5% being low ladders and newbies

  4. Well I have been too busy this finals week. Won’t be over until Tuesday. I currently just defeated Lusamine in UM as of Saturday. Haven’t had time to play since. Luckily I have been walking a lot through my campus so I have been able to catch a lot of cool stuff. Except for a wild Breloom that ran away from after I razz berried it and used an Ultra Ball. I’m glad that Team Galactic has some competition in this poll. Anyway, class is about to start so I am signing off.

    Jolly 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
    Sturdy
    Weakness policy or Pinch Berry

    Rock Blast
    Earthquake
    Sucker Punch
    Shell Smash
