Showdown: Villainous Teams — Round II Grunts & Admin

Showdown is back and better than ever! For those that don’t know what our Showdown series is, or need a reminder: Showdown is where we hold a series of polls on our site and ask readers to vote for their top choice until we found our champion.

Voting periods will run for one week at a time and new rounds will begin on the following dates:

Round I: Leaders — December 2nd
Round II: Grunts & Admin — December 11th
Round III: Plans — December 16th
Round IV: Overall — December 23rd
Winner Announcements — December 30th

The results for Round I: Leaders are in! We’re happy to announce that the winner of the first round of our latest Showdown is… Cyrus, Leader of Team Galactic! Cyrus ended up with only a slight 2% lead over Giovanni of Team Rocket. Full results can be found below!

Note: Ghetsis and Colress have been combined into one percentage and will be counted as such for final vote counts.

In Round II everyone will be voting on their top Grunts and/or villains of teach team. Grunts are often some of the most commonly met trainer types in our Pokémon adventures. Admins provide support to Team Leaders and can prove quite a challenge in battle. Remember you’re voting for your favourite overall choice and a vote for Team Magma counts as a vote for both Third Generation and Sixth Generation iterations, for example.

Team Rocket

Admin members: Archer, Ariana, Petrel and Proton

Team Rocket’s admin staff are classified as Executive Trainers. These trainers all do their best to stop trainers in their attempts to foil the plans of Team Rocket, with challenging battle and no limit to the execution of their plans.

Grunts of Team Rocket are often considered fairly easy opponents, with a limited set of Pokémon used on their teams they rarely pose a true threat to trainers. Rocket Grunts seemed to have their appearance based on that of a typical cartoon criminal.

Team Magma

Admin members: Courtney and Tabitha

The two Admin members of Team Magma both play large roles in assisting Maxie to achieve his plans for Team Magma and the Pokémon world. Team Magma Grunts and Admin are mostly themed around the colour red, with no other obvious influences.

Team Aqua

Admin members: Matt and Shelly

Matt and Shelly play the same roles as Courtney and Tabitha: assisting their team leader in achieving their goals. The entirety of Team Aqua has their aesthetics themed around pirates, particularly their outfits.

Team Galactic

Admin members: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Charon

Admin members of Team Galactic fall under the Commander trainer class. Each Commander of Team Galactic is named after an object within our solar system. All members of Team Galactic wear outfits that are visually like spacesuits, this results in people who unaware of the team to refer to them as spacemen.

Team Plasma

Admin members: Seven Sages, Zinzolin, Shadow Triad

Team Plasma is the only villainous group to have two groups of individuals who act as the higher members of their team. Both groups are loyal to their leader. Plasma member are themed around two distinct themes: in Black and White they appear to have had their appearance influenced by Medieval Knights, whilst in Black 2 and White 2 they have strong classical pirate influences.

Team Flare

Admin members: Aliana, Bryony, Celosia, Mable, Xerosic, Team Flare Admins

Team Flare Admins are extremely relentless in their attempts to halt the player in foiling the plans of their leader Lysandre. Each of these members are likely named in reference to classification of solar flares. All members of Team Galactic are seen as highly fashionable and well dressed.

Team Skull

Admin members: Plumeria

Plumeria is the single admin member of Team Skull and the only character with the Team Skull Admin trainer class. Team Skull is formed of members who failed the Island Challenge in the Alola region. They are the only villainous team to now have a distinct goal other than causing trouble.

      • A React video to I’m not racist, but the comments were really….disgusting. I mean I won’t go into detail, but let’s just say they’re pretty delusional and triggered.

          • I know that the internet people don’t represent everyone and so on, but it’s still hard whatsoever to ignore that frustrating feeling each time you come across someone who’s so….aggravating.

          • Well tbh there’s only so much you can do. It’s like a virus. So my advice is ignore it.
Like I’ve seen so much racism within boxing it’s ridiculous people calling boxers by their skin colour and it infuriates me but what can you do.

          • Yeah, but I think we shouldn’t really get deeper into this convo, although I have some personal thoughts on some of those commenters.

  1. Ok so I had a thought. It may never happen but it would be awesome.
HGSS is a great game and a fan favourite.
Can you imagine if GF say 3 4 years down the line re-release HGSS on the switch as a remastered version kinda like how Skyrim was remastered.
Imagine a remastered Johto/Kanto, battle system, Pokeathlon, Battle frontier etc but on switch graphics. Maybe add a few changes to gym/e4 leader teams etc
I would love to see a modern Johto!

    • I think they should make this huge game on the Switch called “Pokemon Travel” where you’re a tourist and you’re travelling across the regions for certain Regional orbs and use them to unlock exclusive Pokemon in the game you can transfer to your other games.

      Reply
      • Ohhh yeah I would love to see past regions on switch. They would be so beautiful.
Honestly I was impressed by gen 7 graphics on the 3DS.
Switch is like on another level.
I guess we should at least see Sinnoh remakes so that’s a thing!

        Reply
        • I hope for Sinnoh remakes the following would happen:
          – Some sort of relevance/reeferencing to Alola as Hoenn did with Kalos and Johto did with Sinnoh
          – An exclusive new activity to do.
          – Return of Pokemon contests.
          – An exclusive area, something like Spacial Zone for Pearl and Timed Territory for Diamond.
          – An exclusive form of a Pokemon/new forms of the legendaries/new megas.

          • I like your suggestions especially last 2.
            What I would like is:
            – They MUST use Platinum content like story wise, distortion world etc
            – New Arceus form, Dragon trio forms and maybe some mega evolutions for sinnoh mons
            – An arceus episode like delta but something really intense and lore-heavy
            – Expanded pokedex and better distribution
            – Updated e4/gym leader changes
            – Slight changes to plot like how ORAS did
            – Upgraded Poketch!

          • I’d also like if the character CAN’T be customized just so the story and the originality can remain. I know some won’t like that but personally it’s better that way for the story to make sense. I’d like the opposite gender to be your rival as well

  2. So apparently that job listing is for new graduates…….I’m still not sure that gives us any hope tho. I’d rather get off this ride before I get hurt………That said I’ll still say that once and for all we’ll know by the end of February…….This is starting to become painful…….I just want muh HD Pokemon haha

    Reply
    • Haha hmm well patience is a virtue!
Plus more time will likely make a better game.
I think the wait and suspense of a new generation and even more so a new console release for a Pokemon game is what makes it so fun and exhilarating!..Wow that was a mouthful!???

      Reply
      • I agree, perhaps they’re working carefully and slowly, just to make this game some sort of exciting, extravagant one that’ll blow everyone’s minds away.

  3. Secondary thought. Regardless of when the Switch game comes out, what if the reason things seem weird right now is that the new Switch game isn’t really a “new” gen at all. I once again reach deep into the camp of maybe the Switch game is a new story that involves Kanto and Johto. lol It’d make sense given that this years and next years movies are about Ho-oh/the beasts and Lugia/presumably the birds. It would also allow them to possibly put a little more cushioning between regions with a crap ton of new Pokemon. It’d also allow them to do whatever they want with the prerelease. That way they don’t have to focus on all the new Pokemon and can focus on the graphical upgrades and new content to sell players. Idk….just another thought….I’ll go back into my hole…..

  4. Okay RR and by extension USUM are amazing already because
    – Lillie has Pokemon! She’s a serious trainer now that is great development for her!
    – Battling alongside Lillie!
    – Faba the a ss playing a part in RR takeover! I love it because it shows more of his corrupt personality and the notion of him being ok and just following Lusamine is BS now. He’s evil and I love his involvement in RR
    – RR the team, their hideout etc

*I’m at beggining of RR sure there is more to come

  5. US team update. I took me a while but I FINALLY caught a frillish with a good nature and the right freaking ability. Modest nature with water absorb. And managed to get a razor fang off a bruxish to evolve my gligar (someone in a Facebook group was nice enough to give me an immunity gligar which I bred) that said I am taking a break from us until tomorrow to play some Stardew Valley lol that said I need help picking out nicknames for my frillish and gliscor! So give me some ideas please! Thanks in advance everyone! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/75b6c4d45d07477bea4d26340323d91ede186bdc07670f9b78190bc5ebf47586.jpg

  6.   Ok just when I thought RR or USUM could nit get any better
    – we battle alongside Guzma! Sick! I love how they’re showing the changed Guzma
    – The convo between Guzma and RR grunts is amazing and hilarious. First the grunts burn Guzma for having no ideals and visions amd being an Alolan failure and then Guzma gives it them back. Mind blowing!

  7. I’ve retracted my vote for Team Plasma and instead am choosing Galactic. I didn’t know this round also included admins and Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, and Cheron Pluto are too cool. I would give my vote to Skull if USUM hadn’t completely ignored Plumeria again

      • He’s okay, I just hate that they changed his name in the localization of Platinum. Charon is a moon of Pluto so I don’t really understand the name change.

        Reply
      • I think Galactic is a bit overrated

Good stuff, but I like Rockets most.

For Grunts/Admins I picked Magma because Courtney and Idk I really wish I would’ve voted Aqua, I liked the diversity in ORAS as they are amongst the first black characters in the series (Every game prior had few to none as all others were white or asian) even if they are bad it was a cool thing they did

  8. Okay I’m not mad here at all, just want to say something regarding fan bases. It’s my opinion and I want to express it here with my fellow Junglers. Someone try stop me.
So basically if any of you follow tennis we have the great players of this golden era in Roger, Rafa, Nole and Murray.
They’re all great players who respect each other and carry themselves with character.
Yet you have fanbases not the entirety just certain people who support one and will bash another.
A recent example is the recent boxing clash between Lomachenko and Rigo. People of both fan bases and especially some who supported Rigo were so disrespectful and hateful in their comments it amazed me.
We should learn to be respecful people and opponents. It goes along way.
That’s my view on the matter.
Feel free to give feedback :]

    Reply
      • Haha you wouldn’t as I’m certain everyone here would agree being rude and hateful to an opposing player/team is uncalled for.
Just something I wanted to say as well as establishing that I as well as anyone here has the right to their own opinion.
But you seem pretty cool :]

        Reply
      • I take you’re pretty cool back. That’s an understatement, you’ll never be pretty cool because you’re really really cool x100 :]

      • True that kinda rivalry is nice and competitive. Like you spur each other on, the rivalry makes you better. I guess like Ash and Gary??
But when people start insulting one another, that’s not nice!

        Reply
    • I think it happens way more in sport because of the culture, especially in football (soccer). People get way too invested in things that they themselves aren’t actually playing and form their identity around it. I’m not saying that’s how it is in tennis or other sports.

    • its like console wars in a way, xbox fans making fun of sony, vice versa and Nintendo getting made fun of left and right

  9. Ok another thing I just thought of for a possiblle return to Kanto/Johto Switch game. USUM post game spoilers ahead. After you defeat Giovanni he basically steps aside, but as he does he states that Team Rainbow rocket will never stop moving forward. He then says that we may me again before disappearing. What if this is a hint at a Kanto/Johto sequel in which a neo uh….extra neo(?) Team Rocket is back at it again and a new trainer needs to stop them. This time the story spanning fully across two regions (maybe we’ll see) I’m not sure I see Giovanni being the ultimate bad guy in a new sequel, but he could be a red herring of sorts

  10. OMG hahahaha The end of the Team RR episode is great lolz Faba getting demoted is the best ting ever! So freaking funny!

  11. Don’t you just love how Geovanni as a character, anime and games is so resilient.
Where other leaders loose steam he is just a real bad guy. Even after several defeats he effectively swears that he’ll be back, like he’ll never apologise and change like Hoenn’s leaders or put himself in a crazy world like Cyrus.
He’ll always think long term how he and TR can survive so he can continue in his evil.
    He’s a true villian!

    • Mine just knew Shadow Ball, Earth Power, Giga Drain and Psychic

Psychic was the only damaging move for a while, I like the idea of a little Sandygast using psychokinesis

  12. OK I’ve officially ended the Team RR episode and now more than ever I can say I think the theory I just posted down below is a possibility. There’s an extra thing I didn’t’ see until just now that makes me think this could be a thing.

    • Climax figures? Every time I see you say that I tink you’re talking about something dirty……..When I first saw you say your mom was getting them for you I had to double take hahaha

      Reply
      • Kamen Rider Climax Fighters. It’s a game that came out on PS4 yesterday. Unfortunately, not in America since Kamen Rider doesn’t air here (With the exception of Kamen Rider Dragon Knight and Saban’s Masked Rider, but we don’t about Masked Rider). My mom bought me a copy with English Subs, so that’s cool
