Nintendo will be hosting a new Nintendo Direct to talk solely about the upcoming Animal Crossing games for smart devices. The video presentation will occur on Wednesday, October 25 at 12PM JST (3AM GMT, 11PM EST on the 24th) and be about 15 minutes long. You can watch the US, UK or Japanese presentations at the links.
The put a disclaimer on the page that also specifically states they will not be discussing any Nintendo Switch or 3DS title.

So, I’m not super happy about the fact that they’re toying with us YET AGAIN and purposely denying any Animal Crossing Switch updates. But progress is being made: this is the first time that Animal Crossing and the Switch have ever been associated in the same sentence in any way. Even if they don’t tell us directly, I’m sure the app will have some indication as to how it will connect to the new full games, unless they specifically remove those features. Thinking about it more, I think that they must have decided to save Animal Crossing Switch for a big Direct (or event) in December/January. Because otherwise, I feel like they wouldn’t have been so strict about the wording in this Direct. They know people are expecting it.

I’d say this should go for post-release as well, maybe the first week or two. I’ve been trying to avoid all spoilers (which I’ve pretty much done up to this point) and I don’t want that to change, and I know others are the same way.
