As part of a campaign in Japan to determine which Hiker is the best across all generations, the official Japanese Pokémon Twitter account has just posted some brand new footage from Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon!
The 20 second clip shows the male protagonist walking up to the peak of Wela Volcano, where Kiawe’s trial was in Sun & Moon, only to encounter a hiker instead. Upon talking to him he says “Alola! You’re probably wondering who I am, huh?” – you can watch it below:

Is the peak of the volcano no longer a trial site? Is this video teasing that Kiawe is no longer a trial captain in USUM? Or was this footage just taken during Kiawe’s sidequest where’s he’s at home instead? Time to speculate in the comments!

No, because both trailers have shown trials, trial guides, trial gates, and the trial amulet.
Kiawe has a sidequest in Sun version where you can find him in his home instead. Maybe this is teasing that he’s no longer a trial captain, but it could also just be a useless clip to go with their silly promotion.
Nah. Based on the new Alola map and how trails have been part of Alola’s culture for centuries (based on info from within Sun & Moon) trails will definitely be in USUM – whether or not gyms (or some kind of other form of gyms, ala the recent footage of Lt. Surge’s gym) will be part of the game in addition to trails is a different question 😉
For those wondering, other than the blue corner with the bubble motif in the popup, and Kiawe being replaced by the hiker, there’s no other real difference between this area between Sun & Moon and what the footage showed.

I’m not surprised that trials would get replaced by new ones, but it’s odd for Kiawe’s trial to be one of the ones being scrapped for another one.
Maybe I am just speaking for myself, but the main appeal point of his trial was the surprising and humorous nature of his trial. Totem Salazzle isn’t really able to take hits and I feel is the easiest Trial to complete. In USUM, they are hard-pressed to keep Kiawe’s Trial such that it is able to maintain the fresh appeal that made it my favorite Trial in SM and not make the mistake of just doing the same joke. Also there isn’t really much sense in keeping one of the weaker trials in the improved versions.
Enough with the teasing, freaking just give us something big. Dusk Lycanroc isn’t enough. Do we get more Alolan forms? Will Shadow Mewtwo be in the main series? Will there be Alolan Mega Pokémon? What other new forms are there? TELL US GAMEFREAK!
Shadow Mewtwo will be like Shadow Lugia and not appear in the main series.
GF is quite cruel to not include everything in the main series. The more new forms that become exclusive to spin offs and the anime, the more I hate GF. Also, GF has taken a terrible turn when it comes to event exclusives. First, Spikey-eared pichu got left behind, then cosplay Pikachu. Also, most event exclusives don’t evolve or can breed for no apparent reason other than they are event Exclusives. Like how can Ash’s hat, extra hair on one ear, or a different ability, prevent evolution or cause infertility?

You know what’d be a cool spot for Kiawe to do his trial? INSIDE the volcano. Like I imagine if he’s still a captain then Davy is just there because his trial is somewhere new. Sort of how in BW2 the old Nimbasa gym had a bunch of randoms and at the end you were told the gym leader moved. I could see the same situation happening here in a way. Either way I’d love it if we had to go inside the volcano in order to dot he trial. would be a very cool dungeon to explore as well.
I can see that happening. Probably explains why there is no smoke/steam coming from the volcano anymore because, the inside had been cooled down to make a new trial/gym.
I just want this game to be B2W2 but Alola… those games were so fun the first time through…
B2W2 introduced shiny charm… that’s the other thing really that I liked from it. Other than that, it was just a sequel.
Usum is supposed to take place in an alternate universe but one year later, so it won’t be like Platinum or like B2W2. It’s story will be completely different.

If you haven’t noticed, in SuMo if you take you cover legend to the alter at their corresponding time of day, you can go to an alternate version of Alola. I believe Usum is just expanding on the whole alternate universe thing and maybe we can go to the original world that appeared in SuMo at some point.

Gamefreak doesn’t want to do the same thing again or else they will become predictable. Also, it allows us to believe anything can be possible for Pokémon, if they keep changing stuff up and introducing new things.
But sequels have so much more potential. This feels like an over correction
I don’t know what you’re taking about. With this alternate dimension thing, there can be a sequel like story plus reimagined people and places. With this, new Alolan Pokémon can exist because it wouldn’t make sense for a new ones to appear in just one year, but if this is an alternate reality. They already existed, thus are possible.
So in the end, an alternate universe has more potential than just a sequel.
But then we’re just throwing out everything that happened in Sun and Moon. What a waste
I mentioned this before, but there is a possibility that we travel to the SuMo version of Alola at some point. Who knows what will happen.
Also, technically every Pokémon game is a different universe. That is why fairy types exist now and that there is version exclusive Pokémon.

I don’t do comp anymore. I just catch the ones i want unless I’m using a pokemon not in the dex (ex. Meowstic in Alpha Sapphire)

no thats not what i mean. When I run a pokemon game, if I don’t like the pokemon I’m using it ruins my enjoyment which is why my second Y playthrough was so bad (other than the fact it is Y version) I only liked 2 out of the 6 I used.
Meanwhile I planned my team for Moon picking all of the ones i liked that fit well together and ended up with the best team I ever had.

The Heart Gold nuzlocke I did made me use many pokemon I hadn’t used before but while I did get some new favorites, Sandslash is ruined for me now.

In Japanese it’s called Barrierd. It was named in English before Males and Females were properly identified in the games (except Nidoran), so it is for that reason I disagree. Imo if you have a female and are uncomfortable with the name you can just nickname her. I’d like a next stage evolution or Mega for it.

I like to breed my teams and have them be usable competitively after. I also prefer to use Pokemon of differing types which planning can help with, especially with coverage moves. I feel that it is fine whatever you want to do, as someone with an obsessive nature I prefer planning ahead a balanced team with plenty of coverage.
But the main game is so easy, competitively bred Pokémon are completely unnecessary.

I shiny hunt too, I just like my Pokemon to be the best I can make them, which in my opinion involves making them competitively viable, I guess I don’t see what’s wrong with that. I’m not sure why you seem to have a problem with what I choose to do, which I only wrote about in response to your question.

I just think is unnecessary to plan and bred competitive Pokémon just for a new game but to each their own.
I also often have some of my team be shiny, so that’s partly why.
I have an OCD issue when it comes to shinys so I don’t usually like to “tamper” with them by giving them Exp and such. I don’t know, maybe I like how I caught them so I can more likely remember how I obtain them. Only certain situations like if I have dupes, then I evolve and train them.
I have OCD, so I can understand obsessive compulsion to do things a certain way. Since I hatch most of my shiny ‘mon I remember where I got them by hatching them in certain locations. I tend to remember most of my shiny catches anyway.
I do. Personally I dislike planning the entire team however I do think “Well I’ll probably use Incineroar, Kammo-o or this..” before the game.
I usually rotate between 8 to 10, 12 mons.
This makes it more flexible for me but to each their own

I got a Dusk Ball Rowlet through wonder trade and it got me thinking, I hope in USUM there is a place to catch the starters with their HA’s like in X/Y. I would then try and breed a Shiny Popplio in a Dive Ball. I could also have Decidueye in a Dusk or Moon Ball and Incineroar in Premier. Actually if Dream Park became a thing we could get them in Dream Balls too which would be cool for Primarina and other Alola ‘mon.
I have to say, Haruhi In Wonderland is such an amazing episode of Ouran, even in all of it’s craziness. It’s definitely one of my favorite episodes, if not my favorite.

At E3 they said SM is based on Life (which is why they chose Sun and Moon), so the Switch games will most likely be Exploration or something to that effect as the theme since they did confirm it’ll be an open world adventure. My guess, based on that, is South America themed due to global pop culture using it as a place for many adventure stories with ancient mysteries and treasures. On top of that, the past several regions were based on places that are popular vacation places for the Japanese, such as Hawaii, France, and various parts of the mainland US. It’s very likely that the next several regions will be South America/Brazil, Italy, or China. However, due to the fact that only China and South America/Brazil are really big (as Italy is a rather smaller place), I believe they’ll likely favor one of those two places most of all. At least, for the debut of open world pokemon. I do see them doing all 3 eventually, though.
I hope they make a Brazil based region, because it’s where I live. The evil team could possibly be a organization trying to destroy Amazon, since that’s what’s happening here rn (Unfortunately).

A wall that will cost more than the annual NASA budget not including staff and upkeep that will cut through mountains and towns that won’t even stop immigration because airplanes exist and they can fly over walls
If Mexico won’t pay for it then we are going to have to. So much for Trump’s promises of lower taxes and financial stability for the working class
Instead of building a useless expensive wall let’s actually take the issue head on by regulating drug use and helping Mexico with its economic and drug issues. But our current leader is brain dead so lets wall them off and take away LGBT rights
I’ve never understood the point of the wall, it won’t work or be sustainable. It feels like he’s pushing for some sort of Berlin Wall 2.0. Utter buffoon.

And LGBT rights, why mess with them? They have fought for 30+ years to overturn the no Same sex marriage law and other such laws, just for a bunch of old White Christian conservatives to spit them in the face and take away even more rights they have
I may be straight, but I know alot of people who are being treated unfairly because of their sexuality and I think its BS that people who are different should get so much bad sh*t!!!!

The name hasn’t been revealed yet, though people are calling it Limit Breaker for various reasons.
I had expected him to follow the super saiyan transformations but blue so it is interesting, though I do prefer when they look more different from base form. I wonder how he attains it and what it is comparable to in terms of power etc.
