First Look at Nintendo Switch UI (It Has a Night Mode!)

A NeoGAF user has received their Nintendo Switch pre-order a whopping two weeks early and has taken the opportunity to upload a short video showing the initial set-up of the console as well as its menus.

There’s even a black system theme which will be perfect for late-night under the covers gaming!

  1. Its also kinda interesting that when you look into the player icon’s video, while mostly stock images of franchises, there is a small chance of it hinting at games that could be coming to the switch in the near future. Namely the ones that stand out being Star Fox, Metroid and Animal Crossing.

      • Ehh, not really. Really the game wasn’t bad at its core. It simply wasn’t good due to some forced innovation in controls and the idea that you HAVE to play through it multiple times to unlock optional paths rather then relying on players skills or cleverly hidden secrets. More so though I would argue that when they do eventually return to that series that they need to take a risk of putting it in the hands of a younger, fresh team who are willing to try some new ideas.

That, and to a lesser degree I kinda hope that we do see Miyamoto start to back off more as we’ve scene that his teams that he’s more or less groomed at this point are capable of making some great games on their own, and have started to become more vocal about his input often being at the determent of their games.

But back on point I doubt that this is the last we’ve scene of the series. Just give it some time and we might see something like an actual proper reboot of the game. Like, I don’t know, maybe trying something like a Mass Effect style RPG or something that people really didn’t know that they wanted until it was given to them.

        • I haven’t played the game, so really it’s not for me to say, but from what I’ve heard it’s basically an upgraded Starfox 64 with annoying controls. I do agree that if they want the series to continue to succeed they need to innovate a little more with it. That’s why Starfox Zero didn’t appeal to me, I tried 64 3D and didn’t really like it, and Zero just looked like the same thing.

      • Stressed about everything in life cause
-I spent two hours on my final draft for my Catcher in the Rye critical paper and my brother who was edited it pretty much said it was garbage
-Probably won’t get to study for History or Math and wil gail both Chapter test Tuesday cause I have off Monday
-The Paper took a toll on me frustrated me and made very pissy
-I asked some friends if they’d want to come over and they didn’t really feel like it which upset me
-And to top it seems like I can’t even relax with everything around me going on I can’t even stay in one place for at least a few hours before being taken somewhere else

        • 1. Don’t listen to your brother’s criticisms. My brother and I try to annoy each other all the time, I wouldn’t trust his judgement as final.
          2. Why wouldn’t you get to study over the weekend?
          3. Sorry about your friends. 🙁

          • Yeah he was a little rude about his judgments

The studying I have Robotics Saurday and have to go to the city Sunday and Monday I have to fix up the last of the paper and submit it

Its ok at least one gave a good reason why they couldn’t come

          • Saturday I have Robotics all day
Sunday have to go to the city (Philadelphia)
Monday I have to add the final stuff to the paper

  2. This looks pretty cool, I’m liking the menu already. And the night system for the theme is a good idea in all honesty. The Switch is going to be pretty great with the new features in its interface.

On a side note, Bulbapedia has FINALLY recognized Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde as a trio.

  3. Man I’m so stoked for the Switch. I cant say I’ve been this excited for a Nintendo home console (sort of) in a very long time. I had to be coaxed into buying the Wii U and the Wii was a joint console between my brother and I. So having my own Nintendo thingy will be super awesome. Only 2 weeks away!!! lol

    • Hmm…On one hand this is beautiful and I’m still an old man who isn’t use to seeing games run at 60 FPS. On the other hand its EA who’s publishing it/own bioware at this point. I’ll probably pick it up after finishing KH 1.5+2.5 to completion.

        • Yeah, but EA has a habit of slowly worming their way into studios and making them make changes that end up being more profitable to them at the loss of the game. The OG trilogy was good, but I’m still always going to be a bit optimistically concerned with any game that’s published by EA.

          • While I do play 99% Nintendo games, I think using the word “restrict” is a bit harsh. Playing Nintendo games only isn’t some self-imposed handicap, it’s just a choice based on personal preference. I have played the occasional non-Nintendo console title, and that’s just because they intrest me, unlike most non-Nintendo titles.

    • *smacks you across the face*
      Don’t speak such doubtful heresy

Just remember this Zelda game has been under wraps for years along with the switch, surely all that time will result in nothing but perfection

        • why is everyone so down on breath of the wild all of a sudden
the damn thing is just a mere two weeks away and already you lot are getting cold feeted doubts

But notta for the Earthen, i will restrain myself and wait with high hopes because i know for a fact i will love it (and I nearly dreampt about it every night true fact)

          • I just don’t want to get too hyped and be dissapointed. I burned myself with XY like that, and I wasn’t able to supress my hype for SM (but I wasn’t dissapointed so it was fine). I’m just scared that after all the time leading up to it it won’t be what we wanted. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want it to fail, but I’m just a little scared. I need reviews!!

          • Who THE FUCK CARES ABOUT REVIEWS
you play this game for YOU

don’t let some nitpicker or emotionally unstable schmoe tell you otherwise

otherwise i’ll lose all respect for you and punch you

          • I just need to know the legitimate complaints. Like factual stuff, not subjective stuff. Believe me, I don’t base my enjoyment on reviews, but at this point I’m desperate for reassurance.

          • I appriciate your optimism, I wish I could have the same. Either way I’m sure it’ll be pretty enjoyable, whether or not it’s the GOTY material we thought it would be.

          • i wouldn’t say optimism more or Adamant Devotion
too many buttheads take reviews too seriously and i believe you should only play games for yourself not for anybody else

          • I’ll throw this at you

            Destiny and Sun and moon

Both were super hyped, one was ass and the other was amazing

  5. My favorite post of the thread /s, from what I could bother to read:

“Sure, fair point that there are other things that also deserve our attention right now. But I don’t think it’s really so bad to test dug first. I mean, we’ve known what it does for generations, so we can form much more solid ideas of it than we can of other new pokes that we haven’t even fully explored. I’m happy OU council decided to let tapu lele and pheromosa and the gang hang out for a while longer, because these are threats that we actually have not had time to fully adapt to or come to understand in a settled meta.
Also, dugtrio is largely unrelated to these threats. It doesn’t reliably kill ninja or phero or mega-meta (although it does trap some of their checks/counters). So I don’t fell like we need to wait on that part of the meta to settle while we look at dugtrio.”

So let OU continue to be garbage because I like using broken mons. Dugtrio checking trapping one of these broken mons is much more important.

Don’t get me wrong I think Dugtrio should be banned, but only AFTER all of Pheromosa and friends.

    • 1. It adds a “new hard mode”. There’s no confirmation that there’s no hero mode in the game, this might just be a “lunatic mode” as it were.
      2. I seriously don’t get why everyone’s so annoyed with the BotW DLC. Sure, the timing was poorly planned, but Nintendo is no stranger to DLC at this point. We got DLC for MK, Smash, Fire Emblem, etc., so why are people saying Nintendo made a bad choice to enter the DLC market?
