Pokémon Bank Update & Mewnium Z Now Live!

The Pokémon Bank update we’ve all been waiting for is finally available in the eShop!

This update adds the much anticipated compatibility with Pokémon Sun and Moon in Pokémon Bank, and the ability to send Pokémon from Pokémon Red, Blue, Green and Yellow Versions through Poké Transporter. Poké Transporter’s 1.1 patch requires 420 blocks, whereas you have to redownload Pokémon Bank entirely for 496 blocks.

In honor of the update, a Mewnium Z will be given as a gift to those who subscribe to Pokémon Bank. To receive it simply launch and use the new Pokémon Bank by October 2nd, 2017, and when you next play your Pokémon Sun or Moon games a new Wonder Card will appear in the Mystery Gift function. When used in game the Mewnium Z unlocks an exclusive Z-Move for Mew: Gensis Supernova!

  1. I just beat Blue in a 50 consecutive round of Super Doubles! I’m glad I got the new stamp before I used Bank, as that was a goal of mine! 😀

  2. Funny thing is 3 years ago we finally got Pokebank so we could transfer Gen 5 Pokemon to Gen 6, and now we finally got the update for Pokebank to transfer Gen 6 Pokemon to Gen 7.

  4. Ugh….Idk y, but I apparently didn’t bother catching Mewtwo in my Yellow and was super deep in Cerulean Cave without the proper stuff. so I had to slowly drag myself out of the cave and get my M Ball, get a bunch of repels, and an escape rope. Now I’m heading back to Mewtwo….Even with the repels it’s such a grind to get through…..lol ALL I WANT IS TO TRANSFER ALL MUH POKEMONS!! lol

  6. Bank is out? Huzzah my prediction was correct ?. And no old mega stones back? I bet they will have an event. Or maybe megas are just one of those things they have one generation then leave it. RIP.
Despite all this bank hype. I’m not getting it. I am really kinda peeved old megas arent back. I can get it later I’m not missing anything. I’m going to be trying a new game series out with my money. Hopefully its good.

  9. Man, I’m just sad that we can’t get the other Mega stones somehow. I honestly thought they would do something like, if we transfered a pokémon that can mega evolve to Sun/Moon, bank would send its Mega stone through Mystery Gift. It’s a shame.

    • That’s because the 3DS can’t handle SuMo very well. The games are really pushing it to it’s limits. Hence the reason ti takes so long to boot up on regular 3DS’. I honestly think it’s a good thing that Pokemon seems to be moving to the Switch so early on. lol

  14. Transferred all legendaries/mythics and non-evolving Pokemon into Sun. Kind of sad the only ones viewable in the Pokedex are Alola only, unless they will be when we complete it? If not then I’ll only transfer over the necessary evolving Pokemon into Sun, and easily speed level the rest in AS for the Bank Dex.

  15. The simplicity of only having a small amount of Pokemon at my disposal is really making me appreciate Pre-bank gen 7 lol. Now I have so many Pokemon to catalog and organize……For a second I thought some how I lost nearly a whole box of Shiny Pokemon. I found them, but it was a scare lol Now I only have to breed a Goodra and Ditto to get a Goomy and I’ll be able to get muh Shiny Charm finally once again. After that it should be more or less smooth sailing. Over the next year I’ll also continue to fill out my Living dex. That way when Stars comes out I won’t have to catch every god damn Pokemon ever again. From that point on I’ll only have to catch the brand new ones. Man that’s the dream…….hahaha

  18. Now we can answer the age old question, “Does a Pokemon that can evolve into an Alolan form that isn’t from Alola, evolve into it’s original form?”
For example, if I evolve a Pikachu from Gen 1, 3-6, in alola, will it be a regular Raichu or an Alolan Raichu?
I’m gonna guess, Alolan Raichu, as it will evolve in Alola. But could be surprised.

    Reply
    • It would be so blaitently un-logical by all means of human conception
I mean unless Alola has some kinda radioactive atmosphere that causes evolution to go into hyper drive by all means non-Alola native Pokemon should evolve regularly in Alola,

      Reply
      • Turns out, according to what other people have said, is that a Pikachu from outside of Alola still becomes Alolan Raichu in Alola, which, I agree is silly, but hey means if there is a Gen 4 remake an Alolan pikachu will become regular raichu there.

Now for the next question, does breeding a ground sandshrew with a ground sandshrew become a ground sandshrew by breeding, I’d say yes, but I’veh eard othrwise I dunno whats true or what isn’t

Hmmm maybe for next gen we should make Raichu have a psychic form
          *agreeing clamor*
But how would that be, cross breeding, mutations?
Phhhhh naw we’ll just say pancakes and everyone will ignore it

    • Non-Alolans evolve into Alolans if only their final evolution is an Alolan

  19. So I’m having some dilemmas
I am fighting the urge to transfer stuff to Sun out of some kinda mental hold, I did so much crap in X and that was my prime, I learned how to breed and EV train the right way and done so much freaking crap, I even have in game time say 999.59′ hours

But if I want to transfer my Earthen Warriors I gotta send my new ones to Oras for MT…. And even then I had issues transferring (because I really didn’t like Oras) but since now the player avatar is custom it kinda lightens the blow

Anyone else have a similar situation
Also before any of that hyper boost them to 100 (I still have like thousands of rare candy from miles)

  26. So I’m kind of having an OCD overload right now…lol
I recently installed a custom firmware for my New Nintendo 3DS so that I can use NTR, which if you guys don’t know, is a tool that lets you debug, stream your 3DS to a computer, and use cheats in games.
I received Pokemon X the day it was released, and I transfered all of my beloved Pokemon from the original games (Pearl, Platinum, Diamond, BW B2W2, etc), and one day, I got in trouble and my Dad made me smash my 3DS because I disobeyed his rule of internet usage (pretty strict and unruly, I know, but it taught me a lesson to stop being so sneaky).
I lost every pokemon, including my X version that was in the system when it got smashed. SO I was devestated. But soon after, my Dad bought me a new one right before I got Omega Ruby, and I got a digital version of X as well.
Ever since then, I got about half-way through X and completely beat Omega Ruby. I transfered all my Pokemon from Omega Ruby before I used a Powersave and ruined the fun in that.
I luckily don’t have a physical copy of X so I can’t cheat and ruin the fun in that, but now having NTR is very tempting.
I made a plan today, after seeing the update for Bank, that I’m going to finish X and only catch gen 6 and gen 2 Pokemon, then I’m going to complete Omega Ruby and get all Gen 3 Pokemon, then I’m going to fully complete Red/Blue/Yellow and transfer them all so that I have a complete list of fully legitimate Pokemon and a full Pokedex!
I recently used NTR on Moon but had a corrupted save error so I was forced to go back before I used the cheats. So now, I used a few cheats for items but after thinking it over….I’m going to remove those items. From then I’m going to catch the rest of gen 7 Pokemon and finally have a complete, legitimate version of Moon that is 100%.
Thanks for listening to my story….lol.

    • Indeed. Like, there’s got to be a second pair of games coming to the 3DS (either Sun/Moon sequels or DP remakes) and they’re saving them for those. That’s the only thing that explains this.

  28. After knowing how we can get the nature we want for the transfered pokémon from the VC RBY releases, I’m actually considering buying one of them.
I’m thinking about buying Yellow (since it’s not monochromatic). One of the Pokémon I was considering using though is Vulpix, which is only obtainable in the Game Corner. But if I go with Blue, then Nidoran M will be more difficult to find.
I’m still a bit hesitant in buying one of games though simply because they’re so outdated and really slow compared to the newest games, which will probably leave me frustrated as I play (I’m not very patient). I also don’t suffer from Nostalgia since I never actually played the Gen 1 games when they came out as a kid, so there’s not even that to motivate me.
The biggest appeal to me, honestly, is just the fact that I would be able to train a few pokémon that will have their hidden ability after transfering (hence why I mentioned Vulpix and Nidoran M, as their hidden abilities are better), have a unique marker (allowing me to have weird stuff like a Gen 1 Politoed or Alolan Exeggutor after transfering and evolving), and also the fact they they will come from their native region.

      Lv3 Rattata gives 24 exp, which makes the nature move up one row in the table;
Lv3 Pidgey gives 23 exp, which makes the nature move up two rows in the table.

  34. Well I had a great day today. Woke up to the wonderful sound of my family fighting, got to school and recieved the great news that I failed a geometry quiz, AND that I have another one tomorrow. I let down one of my few friends big time, and I feel horrible about it, so that was just great. My dad is calling me a “stupid slacker” because, despite my straight As so far in mostly advanced classes, I don’t want to take summer school. Now he’s threatening to take me out of school because I “don’t care about what’s really important” (which is apparently summer PE courses).

Sorry, I know it’s off topic but this day sucked so I needed to rant. I’ll try to be less negative now. >.<

  35. lol. So, apparently, if you transfer a Gen 1 poke and evolve it into something from other gen (say Poliwhirl -> Politoed), it becomes illegal lol. From what I read, it can’t be traded online.
What I don’t know (and, if someone does, tell me) is if you can still trade those through wireless trade and/or pass them through bank. I remember reading somewhere that we can trade anything through wireless, so that shouldn’t be problem for people with access to two consoles (like me).
I’m actually kinda worried cause I evolved a Gen V eevee into Sylveon and it seems those get blocked as well. GF should revise their coding big time.

    • That’s strange, I don’t believe this was an issue with any prior generation, including Gen VI?

Wouldn’t be surprised if it was intentional mind you >_>

      Reply
      • Indeed, it wasn’t. I’m not sure, but I think I’ve transfered that Sylveon between games with Bank before this update. It may be the coding of this update. I’ve seen people also reporting they can’t use the recent Shiny Xerneas/Yveltal events online.
But if it’s intentional, it’s stupid from their part. It’s something that can happen legitimately (evolving an old pokémon into something introduced later), so they shouldn’t make a problem out of it.

So I’m using my Rayquaza for training up Pokemon and to use it once again on Sun. Anyway, a cool gimmick with it I discovered is when it uses Dragon Ascent as a normal Rayquaza the attack is a cyan color. But when it’s a Mega Rayquaza, the attack is a emerald green. Like I said, don’t remember it was in ORAS, but its a neat little feature for Dragon Ascent.

        • It’s a very well-balanced and good team you have there!
I played Red, so my team is Charizard, Starmie, Jolteon, Vileplume, Pidgeot, and Nidoking. Still haven’t beat the E4 though because training my Pokemon up at Victory Road was tedious and I sort of gave it a long break…

          Reply
          • Eh, the team is okay in terms of balance. I didn’t have a water type, so I sub’d Snorlax. I was trying to make an “Ash-only” team cause Yellow follows him essentially. Your team is pretty good though. I love Starmie so much 🙂

          • Teaching it Surf, Ice Beam, Psychic, and Recover makes it a beast, and it is so worth it as a water type. Also, must’ve felt satisfying in a way when you beat the E4 in Yellow because you used an Ash theme team, so you basically made Ash win a League XD

          • Yeah, basically you are Ash in the game and you do everything he did in the anime up till episode 116 and the first 2 movies. This is the summary of it:
“You are the main character of the game and your name is Ash Ketchum. You are going to have an amazing adventure around your Pokemon World tomorrow. You have to pass 116 events and 2 movie events to complete this trip. On the way, you will meet a lot of Pokemon, rivals and trainers that will help you so much. You also need to catch Pokemon which Ash catches and make the decisions he makes like in the episodes. Unfortunately, you stayed up all night to watch Pokemon Arena matches on TV and you are so tired and woke up late. It is your mistake and not as planned. You are hurry to Pallet Town gate but all your rivals owned their own Pokemon starters and there is no remaining Pokemon. If you don’t have a Pokemon, you have to go home and you decide to choose Pikachu as your friend. Your trip is started from now…”

          • I haven’t played the game myself, but I do know that they are events in which you get them, but I’m pretty sure you can catch other Pokemon

  44. Kurusu, here’s my top 8 and 7:

    #7 Kommo-O
    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/627e9835dacddc88b19e6699d340d768a3f22d107fb0e78278bf8a3960e7b96a.png
Ever had that one typing you always wanted for forever and then it came true? Well, in my case, That was the Dragon/Fighting type, and Kommo-O became the first ever Pokemon to be that typing. And once I heard Sun and Moon had a Dragon/Fighting type, I instantly made it one of my favorites.
Kommo-O itself is a great Pokemon, as well as a good pseudo-legendary to use. It has very well balanced stats, the exception being a lower HP and Speed (but c’mon, having awesome Attack, Sp Attack, Defense, and Sp Def makes up for that), and a wide move pool it can use. Whether it be a Sp attacking move pool, physical attacking move pool, or even a special move pool, Kommo-O fits the bill.
When I did my walkthrough with Sun, I had the patience to not had a 5th member because I wanted Kommo-O so badly. It was worth the wait to finally have my Dragon/Fighting type after all this time, as after going through the grass for 40 minutes trying to find Jangmo-O, right from the start it was a great partner to use against opponents. Probably one of my favorite Alola Pokemon

    Now, onto #7, Talonflame
    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a6511b45cff79ead952d776c716b2bc06ed20e7a7d42957b1b4338cbf4f9c76e.png
For this spot on my list, I had some competition between Staraptor, Braviary, Talonflame, Toucannon, and Swellow for my favorite regional bird Pokemon (though technically Braviary isn’t one though). Nevertheless, I choose Talonflame for that spot as my favorite bird.
Compared to the other birds who competed on this list, I had some pretty great memories of Talonflame back in X. Always the fast, powerful flying type it was on the team, Talonflame was a valuable asset. Being the fastest fire type ever, Talonflame swiftly outspeeds all in XY, peppering the opponent first with a flurry of fire and flying type moves. Although its attacking states aren’t too good, having access to powerful moves such as Flare Blitz and Brave Bird made it very strong, and just enough to make itself worthy of a good Pokemon on my team.
Also, having some of my favorite types as its typing makes it that just better, even if it gets wrecked by Stealth Rocks and Rock type moves a lot.

      Reply
      • I kinda disagree. Frolic’s main and usually-understood definition right now is carefree play and not “that other action”.

Play Rough implies “that other action” better while implying a bit of violence.

        Reply
        • I just don’t like that play rough gives little indication that it has anything to do with fairies. It could be a dark move..or even fighting just going off the name. Frolic at least keeps the whimsical aspect of fairy type. frolic doesn’t necessarily mean non-violent though, so I think it works better.

    • Right now, Waterfall (80 BP 100 accuracy) is the standard for physical moves with no drawbacks. Its slightly more damaging counterpart is Aqua Tail (90 BP 90 accuracy). So Play Rough is par for the course.

        • That said, it would be great to have a Fairy-type Waterfall. <3

Also they DID fix Dedenne's moveset and added Play Rough, so they are doing something, just not enough while they forget about things like Sceptile's coverage… 🙂

          • I wish they would add some more special fairy moves too so that togekiss could get a stab fairy move. They didn’t give it moonblast due to serene grace I’m sure.

          • Oh that’s true I guess. 80 BP kinda leaves a bit to be desired though. A 95 special fairy move counterpart to flamethrower/thunderbolt/ice beam would be nice

          • Yer probs right, maybe they thought Moonblast with double proc chance, was too OP for a tank like Togekiss or something. Florges and Tapu Fini get Moonblast though, but they don’t get Serene Grace, so…

          • I guess I’m mainly asking for a special fairy tm then. Idk, I think they could just add more moves in general 😛 Togekiss is pretty great atm though so it’s a minor complaint

          • I think making Moonblast or Play Rough as TMs would give it more exposure…

Like the days when Stealth Rock was a TM way back in Gen 4, many many mons got to use it.

  46. I would like to have a moment for the Pokemon from my past teams that got lost in the transfer process in some way. Either I lost them from forgetting to transfer them to ORAS or other unknown cause, let us have a moment of silence for

  47. So I’m just looking over all my past teams and damn am I glad Surf and Fly aren’t necessary any more, I’ve got so much Flying and Water types

Also surprisingly little Fairy – Types, most of mine were actually retyped when I put them into bank (Whimsicott, Togekiss, one of my Gardevoir, Clefable and Wigglytuff) and a handful of Pokémon that have always been Fairy (Sylveon, Florges, my other Gardevoir, Primarina, Ribombee, Shiinotic, Mimikyu, and after my Decidueye run, Ninetales and Comfey)
