  1. Well that was pretty badass. lol Croagunk is a straight up boss hahaha I’m surprised they didn’t try and fit Lucas or Dawn into one of these stories, even as a side character in the background.Oh well now onto Unova!

    • And if I end up not liking Dhelmise it’s Toxapex instead. And maybe Umbreon or Honchkrow in place of Toucannon if I don’t like it.

      • I was never a fan of them. Everyone liked Rockruff and I didn’t really feel that strongly about him-I might do the midnight form. Also the Oricorios don’t really mesh with me personality wise. I try to make teams that are both well balanced in terms of typings and would be Pokémon That for me as a person.

        • Baile one is my fav! It takes me to favorite place, Barcelona… I’m tempted to swap Toucannon for Honchkrow though, but we will see how it turns out. What about Crabominable? Or Kommo-o?

          Reply
          • I personally wouldn’t replace Toucannon for Honchkrow simply because you would have 3 Pokémon weak to Fairy types defensively. If you do you would have to plan for some coverage moves for your other Pokemon.

          • I don’t really look at what is weak and strong against what types… I go for what Pokemon fit my personality and work with the character the best.

          • I know my teams will evolve over time and once I start playing… it happened in X and Y. The teams I thought I wanted ended up being completely different than what I had. It’s just fun to think of all these things ya know?

          • Plus my friend (rival in the games) is building an all Ghost team… My favorite types are Dark and Ice but there aren’t enough Pokemon that I like of those types to fill a whole team. Plus, I ALWAYS have my starter Pokemon on my team no matter what.

          • Those were the two main ones I was debating between actually for the last spot. I really like Crabominable for its unique typing and the fact that I can get it early on in the game-so I won’t have to put Pokémon like Pikipek and Yungoos on my team so I won’t only be using Popplio in the 1st island. However it’s stats don’t really works for its typing and that slightly irks me. Kommo-o has great stats distribution, but it is available quite late in the game and it is the strongest non-legend Pokémon this generation. The last part is a negative for me because I want feel a little bit like an underdog during my playthrough-since My character just moved to this region and is like 10-11.

  3. Finally reached Ula Ula island

    Current Team

    Incineroar lvl 34
    Toucannon lvl 29
    Lycanroc lvl 31
    Crabrawler lvl 29
    Fomantis lvl 28
    Wimod lvl 28

  4. My team! I’m happy with it because it’ll probably give me more of a challenge based on when I’ll get each team member. Includes spoilers of where certain Pokemon are captured.
The way my team works out, I’ll have two on Melemele (Primarina + Ribombee), one on Akala (Tsareena), two on Ula’ula (Oricorio Baile + Mimikyu), and one on Poni (Kommo-o). So up until Ula’ula I’ll only have half my team! Should make for quite the challenge, given that I’ve heard it’s harder than previous games to begin with.

        • The anime is going to be a “slapstick comedy”
There is no indication of ash participating in any sort of league or trails. The anime will
Purely focus on Ash’s ‘School life’

          Reply
          • Lmao what? Maybe the first season or the first half of the first season. The entire Alola storyarc is really not going to be him fooling around in a schoolbuilding

          • Judging by the synopsis, he wasn’t even planning on staying in Alola. They visit it for holiday and he happens to hear about the Pokemon School. You might be right, but it wouldn’t appeal much to the fanbase in general if he stays in school the whole time. It could just be that the Trials are part of the school’s graduation program

      • You don’t think he gets Incineroar? Don’t know man. I mean there is the leaked art of the starter evos with Ash standing with one. Might be his new Charizard

    • My idea for in

      Pikachu
      Incineroar
      Toucannon
      Dartrix or Decidueye
      Crabominable
      Lycanroc, Golisopod, or Komala

Or if Rotom counts than that for 6

      Reply
    • Decidueye over Dartrix, it will be somewhat like Greninja IMO, even with the change of direction the anime seems to be going. Crabominable is very likely due to Kingler and Corphish.

  8. Ugh… been trying to finalise my teams after all the leaks for both Sun and Moon but can’t seem to lock it all on as i don’t want to double up on types and have a list of about 15-16 i could and would use but can only have 12! 🙁

  9. To someone who understands stats. Here are a bold Primarina and a bold Rotom-W with 252 evs in HP and Def and 4 evs in sp. def:

    Rotom W (lv 100):
    HP: 304
    Att: 149
    Def: 344
    Sp. Att: 216
    Sp. Def: 251
    Spd: 208

    Primarina (lv 100):
    HP: 364
    Att: 184
    Def: 271
    Sp. Att: 288
    Sp. Def: 269
    Spd: 156

I know they are two really different pokemon and they don’t have the same role competitivly. What I wanna know is how HP and Defenses work. Clearly Primarina will be better on special def because it has a higher base sp. def stat with 30 more base HP. But how about physical defense?
Rotom has 50 base hp and 107 base defense, while Primarina has 80 base hp and 74 base defense. Rotom seems pretty bulky even with 50 base HP, what i wanna know if Primarina can be good defensivly even with 74 base defense. I think Rotom is kinda better on physical defense, but of how much?

    • 252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-W: 127-150 (41.7 – 49.3%) — guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Primarina: 160-190 (43.9 – 52.1%) — guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

      Rotom is more physically defensive.

          • Type into Google: Pokemon Damage Calculator. And click on the first link.

You can select which Pokemon you want to test out. The new Gen 7 Pokemon are not added yet, but you can change the numbers manually.

          • Thanks again.
Btw, I know that being killed in three turns rather then two makes a lot of difference, but I wanted just to know the spread. Cause a stab tough claw Zen headbutt from 145 base attack is a lot of damage, but with weaker physical attacks Primarina can survive some hits. Just wanted to know this…

          • I just used that a base move since both Pokemon would be neutral to it, so it’s an accurate comparison.
You can choose whichever move you want and whichever Pokemon you want if you wish to compare further.

Stats can depends on a number of things. If you have low HP it’s better to invest EVs into HP for maximum benefit. If HP is high it’s better to invest more into defence for maximum benefit.

Try the tool out and test random things and you will begin to start seeing a pattern.

    • Rotom has access to Will o Wisp with already makes him better defensively than Primarina. Also not 100 sure but primarina movepool lacks recover and rotom atleast has pain split

Alright, so imagine if we did a fanfiction with Kingdoms being based on types or a group of types (for example, an Pleasant Kingdom based on Fairy and Normal, a Lush Kingdom with Grass and Bug, an Desert Kingdom with Ground and Rock, a Stormy Kingdom with Electric and Flying, a Frozen Kingdom with Water and Ice, a Molten Kingdom with Steel and Fire, just to spitball)

And based royalty off of people here

I wouldn’t be writing though, getting writing fatigue from English, Tourney and Sight Z-ing XD

My team now: Primarina, Alolan Raichu, Salazzle, Bewear, Tsareena, and Alolan Ninetales. I’m playing moon and my boyfriend is playing sun, so I’ll be trading him one of his favorites, Drampa, for Ninetails.

Anyway, I originally commented to say… I love your team lol 🙂

    • You have good coverage on both, your Sun Team is mostly fast, Moon seems to be middling to slow, but much more defensive with those last 3. I like both 🙂

  21. also while I understand most of this pokemon were designed for VGC and Doubles in mind. It is kinda sad that only one has true potential to be OU in singles(other than some UB and some Tapus with I dont count because they were already set to have good stats)

  22. Moves that are categorized as Other (status moves) can be used with Z-Moves to get a bonus affect specific to that move like Attack up, Defense up, Evasion Up, etc.. There are even some that heal 100% HP. Here’s something for the new meta: Z-Belly Drum’s Z-Power bonus affect just so happens to be one of the moves that restores HP, and it does that before deducting the 50%, so it can be used below 50% health. Whelp…

    Reply
  23. Z-Nature Power transforms into the respective Z-Move based on terrain
(i.e. Energy Ball -> Bloom Doom, Earth Power -> Tectonic Rage). Z-Hidden Power always transforms into the Normal-type Breakneck Blitz no matter what type it is. Z-Moves bypass Protect but deal reduced damage (roughly 25% of original). It’ll say “*name* couldn’t fully protect itself!.

    Reply
    • Question though. Do certain Z-moves count as making contact. Like Breakneck Blitz is clearly making physical contact with the pokemon, so would it also be effected by things like iron barbs or static?

      Reply
      • I think I’ve read about that before and it seems like the Z-Move will have the properties of the regular move you are choosing to power up with Z-Power. For instance, if you use Solar Beam, Bloom Doom will be a Special attack. If you use Razor Leaf, Bloom Doom will be a Physical attack, but won’t be as powerful as when you choose Solar Beam. Z-Moves have a base power of 100 but can be more powerful if you’re using a more powerful regular move.

It seems Pokémon gain Z-Power through the Z-Ring and Z-Crystals. Once you are ready to use your Z-Move you have to choose which move you want to power up with Z-Power. Physical and Special moves become Z-Moves while Status moves will have a Z-Power bonus effect like Attack up, Defense up, Evasion Up, heal 100% HP, etc.

This might not be 100% accurate as this is only what I’ve understood from the things I’ve read. I don’t have the game, just eyes for reading and a mind for processing and understanding.

  24. There were rumors a few weeks back that Ash Ketchum was the Champion, and I’m so thankful that didn’t turn out to be the case! Would have made for a strange game-anime crossover.

    Reply
  25. There’s more to Z-Moves than just single-target nukes. Splash powered up by Z-Power becomes Z-Splash, which grants +3 Attack.
Z-Destiny Bond redirects all attacks to the user. Every status move not named Nature Power, Metronome, or Assist has an additional side effect when used as a Z-Move.

    Reply
      • Yeah I thought about it as soon as I posted it because Silvally needs a bunch of items to change form which involves too much strategy as far as Ash is concerned. But I thought it made sense because its evo method is trusting its trainer enough to lose the mask.

        Reply
        • The anime doesn’t always follow that sort of thing though. I don’t know, he could rescue one along the way and maybe call on it occasionally, definitely would stay Normal type though.

          Reply
    • No way he’ll get Silvally
      Golisopod is a bit much
And Passimion isn’t too bad but I think Crabrawler is more of Ash’s type since they are fiery combatants

      Reply
      • Wayyy late, Silvally’s a stretch, but I stick by Golisopod because it’s like Ash’s thing nowadays, taking weak pokemon and encouraging them to become op. I can see it being the Infernape/Goodra of Alola

        Reply
    • I’d say he would have Crabrawler, Lycanroc, and the last one is a complete mystery to me. But I agree with Decidueye and Toucannon.

      Reply
  26. So what does everyone think of Toucannon? I agree it’s design is super simple, but I feel like most of other regional birds have had simple designs too. I personally love it.

    Reply
    • I felt the execution was a tad forced
They totally scrapped a decent woodpecker theme into a psycho furnace beaked tropical bird
They should’ve done a tropical parrot into a bigger hornbill then finally toucan

      Reply
      • I can see what you mean. Woodpeckers are closely related to Toucans, but it may have been better for Pikipek to stay a woodpecker and for Toucannon to have it’s own evolution line.

        Reply
    • i dont like the eyes, but i like the design alot, but yeah I agree with a lot that it should have been a separate design and kept pikipek as a woodpecker

      Reply
    • I think it’s got more personality than most of the Normal/Flying regional birds.
I don’t like its second form, but Pikipek and Toucannon are more appealing than Pidgeot and Unfezant.

      Reply
    • Typing is a waste imo, after Talonflame I had hoped we’d ended the Normal/Flying regional bird every gen. I’d have preferred Dark, Steel or even Fighting (the last 2 would need a small design change.) As it is I dislike the eyes, it is not that different from the real animal at all. I don’t see much of any relation between base and final stage which isn’t great really. It could’ve done with a Flying move to abuse with Skill Link. I don’t hate it, I prefer it’s Base and Mid Forms.

      Reply
      • I totally agree about the typing. Normal/Flying should just die now. Talonflame was a step in the right direction and now they’ve stepped backwards.

I don’t think Steel would have required a change, its beak and body look sleek enough to be metal. Think of Scizor, Jirachi, Mawile, Empoleon and Sandshrew, they aren’t obviously Steel type to look at but they make sense as Steel.

I don’t dislike how similar it is to a real animal though, there’s a lot of pokemon like that, like Bunnelby and Rockruff, and Komala in a way.

        Reply
        • Yeah you’re right, I was thinking of a few ridges on it’s beak or something, kinda like Excadrill has on it’s head plate.
I think the thing is for me those ‘mon are still distinctly Pokémon looking, or that’s the feeling I get. I don’t so much get that with this, perhaps because of how many variations of real tropical birds there are? I don’t know.

    – I don’t like Charon’s voice.
    – Buck’s voice is suitable.

    – Damn, that’s an epic croagunk
    – Buck’s stone leaping reminds me of quicktime events in various game series
    – Heatran evapourated? Erm… Ok?
    – Sinnoh’s landscape reminds me of Skyrim
    – Buck is more interesting than I remember, he should make a comeback

        Programming powers are great 😀

        Reply
          • I’m planning to scan/parse the text, then output a html page (or possibly pages) containing the move data formatted in tables, then build an index area/page that hyperlinks to the right area/page so you can navigate more easily.

Then ideally I’d host it, but I’m not sure where to host. Might stick it on my github or something.

          • It’s more time consuming than difficult.

Reading the data is the easy part, formatting it is the hard part because I’m not particularly good with html 😛

          • I tried, but the text file wasn’t formatted properly, several Pokemon have extra/unexplained entries and some of them have more data than others and it makes things hard to work with.

Long story short, I’ve got it as a 111KB 7Zip or a 755KB Zip if you want it at any point. Uploading to github would take forever though, so if you want it I’ll upload to dropbox and then PM you the link through the forums to stop other people trying to grab it and stealing all my bandwidth 😛

  28. if I had to guess, that’s Bryce Papenbrook as buck. (also, red from pokemon origins, Zidane from dissidia ff) I’m not a fan of this episode, probably due to the awkward translation.
team galactic, scared for their life, running past buck: Oh its you (like, really? wtf? this sounds so shoehorned)
buck: yeah its me. (again it sounds so forced.)
idk maybe I’m complaining too much, I liked it over all but the script sounds so off to me here.

    Reply
    • It’s still not as bad as the bit in The Old Chateau where they attempted to translate ‘itadakimasu’. There is no translation for ‘itadakimasu that doesn’t look forced 😛

This is why I’m hoping they’ll release it subbed at a later date though. Or at least release the originals so we can get some fan subs.

      • Seconded.

I know they did the Pokemon Ranger thing for Manaphy and Pokemon Channel thing for Jirachi years back, but at least those were still console related and not forcing people to have non-console device to use the event.

    • Well all pokémon go does is crash on my ipod, but I still think this is pretty cool :p
No point being sour because playing a spinoff gives you special gifts, it’s nothing new, and with go’s popularity it’s nothing surprising. Seems kinda churlish complaining about a feature that rewards assiduous fans because you don’t like the spinoff. I can really empathise it being annoying to not even be able to play the game though. But honestly it’s pretty much the same as not being able to afford a gamecube back in the day. Smartphones are pretty much a given these days, especially for the fact you can get pretty dirt cheap crappy ones.

      Reply
      • It’s not the same though, a phone is not a console. Aside from which buying a gamecube gave you access to things like Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD and Pokemon Channel.

Go is the only phone-exclusive Pokemon thing, it doesn’t warrant buying a phone for.

        Reply
        • Well no, it wouldn’t warrant buying a phone for, but in this day and age people normally have phones anyway, especially those in pokémon’s target demographic. If you don’t have one you’re kind of an anomaly, moreso than not owning a gamecube, and that’s kind of on you, not on them for hitting a market that makes too much sense to ignore.

          • I watched Gravity Falls when it was on, but I tried SU and just couldn’t get on with it.

In fairness most of it was garbage for quite a while. Billy & Mandy/Ed, Edd n Eddy era was sort of a golden age, prior to that and after that things lapsed and fell apart.

          • Gravity Falls was a great show. I can understand how some people might not be as into Steven Universe. That being said, the show gets a LOT better as it gets towards the middle of season 1.

Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends will always be my favorite CN show of all time.

          • SU just didn’t have anything that appealed to me.

I almost forgot about Foster’s. It had some truly legendary characters. Yeah, definitely the golden age 😛

      • The show is adorable, but there’s more to it than what it seems. Aside from what’s listed here, it also brilliantly satirizes millienial culture. Especially with the show taking place in San Francisco.

        Reply
          • Heavy usage of social media, alternative health styles rising in popularity (veganism and vegetarianism), buying local, going green, etc. I guess a lot of that is more poking fun at “hipster” culture, but social media and internet usage has a large presence in the show.

          • I must not count as a millenial based on that list.

I wouldn’t have said buying local was a millenial thing, I think that’s just the modern era as a whole – a sort of backlash from the globalisation thing big businesses keep pushing.

As for going green, I think that’s partly the school curriculum’s fault, I remember having healthy eating and recycling rammed down my neck since before I knew what a fraction was.

  29. For everyone who’s played sun and moon early or watched gameplay, does the game still FEEL like a Pokémon game? It seems so different and I don’t mind change but if it doesn’t feel like a Pokémon game idk if I’ll enjoy it.

    Reply
    • I’d say the actual gameplay, graphics and music feel very much the same and at the same time like an evolution, but I think the plot has diverged somewhat. They’re creeping further away from the naturalistic G3/G4 style plots and creeping into the scifi realms even more so than G5/G6. It’s not too far gone yet but I hope they reign it in a bit next time. That said, the dialogue was very good, even if the themes are detouring.

      Reply
      • Then again, there isn’t too many naturalistic ideas they could still do though, so going into different storylines/themes is a good thing, I feel.

        Reply
        • Depends on what they choose to do.
I’m ok with the island trials and that side of things, but I really don’t like the UBs. I’d rather they’d brought back Shadow Pokemon or something, the UBs just don’t sit right.

          Reply
          • I see nothing wrong with it, especially when I feel they are doing a nature vs science theme. And I’m absolutely certain that is what they are going for. Why else mention so many times how the people of Alola are one with nature and respect? Why else have, in contrast, a super high-tech, science-forward Aether Foundation that at certain times deviate/change from what the local’s stand for? It’s just too much to say they aren’t going for that. One cannot demonize the other, however, because they both rely on each other.
(Just in case this is a spoiler for some people) But aren’t UBs technically Pokemon, but from another dimension? So therefore, in the world they are originally from, they are nature. They just look odd/scifi to us because that’s not the Pokemon world/real world nature that we’re used to.

          • Nature vs Science is a fine theme, but I don’t think the UBs are a good way to serve that theme. Cases like Mewtwo and Genesect utilised that theme much better.

They are lifeforms like Pokemon, but so far there is no point in the dialogue where a character acknolwedges them as being Pokemon, they are always treated differently. The fact they cannot be caught with regular Pokeballs already indicates some underlying major difference.

          • In my opinion, the UB’s are a PERFECT idea… just…. they were implemented kinda poorly into the story….

          • I thought Mewtwo and Genesect didn’t do it nearly the same level as I feel it will be applied here, but I honestly haven’t seen all the story and experienced it myself, so I can’t say for certain. I just feel this plot addresses this theme better than any previous Pokemon story.

          • Well, I’ve seen from the climax to the end credits. Parts of the plot are good like Lusamine’s corruption but I still think they could have done better without the UBs.

I tend to think of Mewtwo’s storyline as the one from the film, which is what I think they wanted to do but couldn’t because of hardware limitations.

Genesect didn’t get enough coverage, but the non-mascot legendaries rarely do in-game. Until ORAS, Deoxys had very little lore and until HGSS Celebi had almost no coverage. Jirachi and Victini still have practically nothing, as I expect will be the case with Marshadow.

          • A lot of decent legendaries have suffered because they leave their plots to films instead of showing them in-game.

          • I actually like the UB’s because they ooze with potential for the third game XD
And I love nearly all of them

          • I only like UB01 and UB02B.

The giant mosquito, the bamboo, the heap of wires, the origami man and the giant mouth I really dislike.

          • The oragami one I don’t see much appeal in…
The green rocket one is a favorite of mine, I just LOVE it
I actually didn’t like Expansion until I saw its animation in refresh
the giant mouth annoys me too..

          • I completed 1 and 2.
They were a fair attempt at a Pokemon-like game and I think they deserve to coexist.
I enjoyed them more than I enjoyed the Yokai Watch demo in terms of gameplay and possibly story.

    • While I haven’t gotten to far, it still feels like a pokemon game. The theme is definetly a good bit different but it still has that…. “Pokemon” touch… Just a little different

      • In the Jirachi Movie, Jirachi was seen sleeping in a cocoon made of crystal. Crystals seem to be very …… synonymous with holding something in. What is interesting is that when Necrozma is studied, it has a crystal like texture toward it and has a prismatic energy that leaks in certain areas. Also, Black is a color in which light is absorbed and not released. These ideas together give me an idea that Necrozma is the third legendary and is based on a light spectrum of sorts. Lunala and Solgaleo can open rifts to the UB world, but in my opinion, I feel as if Necro would control them. Also it shares a battle theme with the two mascots. I see this Necrozma as it’s concealed form to be released in the next game. And a final bit of proof? The original codename for sun and moon was “Pokemon Rainbow”
And representing a Prism, what does that mean 😉
I also have a bit more to say soon

        Reply
        • You didn’t do the tag properly 😛

Necrozma appears to be based on a rough diamond.
Diamonds can act like a prism, can be seemingly black in colour, can refract light etc etc

I agree it’s probably linked to them somehow. I also think it’s related to the Z Crystals.

Another possibility, I think it might be linked to Baily’s Beads:
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baily%27s_beads
An effect present during total solar eclipses.

          • Huh… that also makes a lot of sense…
I also think it is part of the way that the two multiverses known so far (RSE and ORAS ones) Are connected

          • I detest the multiverse thing. There was nothing stopping it all being one universe until they broke things in ORAS.

          • I like and dislike
… Though one thing proves its connection
necro is researched by the Salon Maiden Anabel, who fell out of a portal (Likely from the other world) and just so happens to be researching Necro. Also she has the emerald theme, not the oras one

          • Tbh I like it, we’ve had Pokémon that can manipulate space and time on a whim (Hoopa, Palkia, Celebi, Dialga) and we knew other dimensions existed (Dialga’s and Palkia’s domains, the Distortion World). Multiverses and alternate time lines were simply an obvious step to take (and they’d already been established in Gen V)

          • It’s one thing having other closely related pocket dimensions ruled by Pokemon, it’s another having split timelines and alternate realities and dimensions ruled by non-human non-Pokemon creatures.

          • Having Pokémon that can manipulate time and space makes it the only logical progression from there though, as time travel and interdimensional travel will lead to split time lines and alternate dimensions

Also, it’s been set up since BW(2)

Also if that last bit is referring to Ultra Beasts, they are Pokémon, just from another dimension. It’s why they can have abilities, types and moves.

  34. Story spoilers BTW

Like Annabel, Looker appears to be a ‘Faller’ too. His appearance in ORAS is near identical to what Annabel’s was stated to be like: loss of memory, thrown into some weird new place.

What is also worth noting is that if we have characters that don’t seem to be ‘Fallers’ who existed in the old world (Cynthia, Red and Blue, Colress, pretty much everyone from ORAS), we potentially have two Lookers and two Annabels running about the Mega Timeline. Which brings up the question. Is the Looker from X/Y the one from the Old Timeline, or the Mega Timeline?

  35. Huge News regarding megas.

In sun moon the turn order is now decided AFTER mega evolving. So now pokemon like M.Beedril and M.Lopunny get the speed boost the moment they mega evolve as opposed to the next turn.

This is huge, since now Beedril and diancie don’t have to waste a moveslot and a turn using protect. Sableye can’t abuse prankster since it will lose it the moment it mega evolves. Banette will get prankster the moment it mega evolves.

    Reply
    • Wait. You mean AFTER mega evolution? If the order was decided before mega evolution, how could Mega Beedrill outspeed like anything moderately fast? Just asking for clarification.

      Reply
      • In gen 6, turn orders were decided before mega evolving. Beedril has bad speed and defences, so you were forced to run protect.
The speed boost and abilities like prankster took effect after the turn which you had mega evolved.
In gen 7,the abilities and speed boost take effect as soon as you click mega evolve

          • I’m really excited for a Ground/Fairy Pokémon tbh, I’m expecting it to be some sort of ancient dirt giant animated by magic or something

            Or a pink Fairy Armadillo

But if it gets the chance to set up, Calm Mind/HP Ground/Giga Drain/Draining Kiss (with priority on the last two) Comfey could be good

    • Wait Calm Mind shouldn’t be boosted with Triage
And I don’t know if that even applies to Draining Kiss
Doesn’t matter this thing is slow as it is frail
Like a Klefki without the passable defense

      Reply
      • Calm Mind isn’t prioritised, but absorbing and healing moves (Giga Drain, Draining Kiss, Aromatherapy, Synthesis) are.

It has a 51/90/110 stat spread, which while not exactly bulky, isn’t exactly frail either.

And its speed is 100, it’s quite fast, especially for a one stage non-mega. But once it’s done calm Minding it won’t care because it’ll have +3 priority Draining Kiss and Synthesis

          • At the third island.
The Festival Plaza is unlocked as soon as you get the pokedex.
I haven’t used it, or poke pelago much though

      • I have trainer customization questions.

        1) I know you can buy clothes with Pokédollars, but the trailers showed Festival Coins being used. In regards to trainer customization, what are FC used for?
        2) What are the color choices for hair and eye lenses?
        3) Also, in what other ways can we customize our trainers? I’ve read there’s an NPC that can help you change the style in which you throw out a Pokéball. Anything else besides there things?

        Reply
        • I can at least answer that first one in part. One feature in the game is that you can dye your clothes in exchange for Festival Coins, and that has been what the trailers have been showing off.

          -Honey Blond
          -Platinum Brown
          -Pink Brown
Haven’t come across an option to change my eye colour, even though you get the lens case pretty early
          3)Customization options are
          -Hair Colour
          -eye colour
          -skin colour
          -the usual clothing options
          -hair accessories
-an option of other accessories. So far, glasses are the only thing available in that section

          Reply
          • Hmm… I’m guessing that Platinum Brown is what makes your hair look white and Pink Brown is what makes it look magenta. Weird that they have brown in their name. A bit dissapointed that Game Freak didn’t add more hair colors like blue, green, red, etc.. Thanks for answering my questions.

There are two types of Bottle caps: regular and Gold Bottle Caps.
Regular Bottle Caps boost a single stat to its 31 IV equivalent while Gold boost all stats.
Bottle Caps do not change IVs, they merely boost stats, so your Pokemon’s Hidden Power type will reflect its original IVs if (i.e if your Pokemon’s IVs are 0/0/0/0/0/0 it will still have Hidden Power Fighting after raising its stats with Bottle Caps).

If you breed using a Pokemon whose stats have been altered with Bottle Caps it will still pass its original IVs not 31 IVs. Your Pokemon must be Level 100 to undergo Hyper Training… WHAT THE FUCK THAT MEANS DITTO BREEDING IS BACK TO FUCKING HACKERS

    Reply
    • Do they affect how the IVs are working? I mean is there a difference between 6IV born Pokemon and 0IV Pokemon altered by Hyper Training to 6IV in terms of in-battle effect?

So Hyper training is a modification that cannot be inherited, Hyper training is not a mutation?

      Reply
      • Basically, a 0 IV Pokemon boosted with Hyper training will have the same stats as a 31IV Pokemon.

The hidden power and the stats passed down via breeding will remain the same even if you boost it by Hyper training

        Reply
    • Hyper training is good just for legends. It’s really much easier to breed a pokemon with a 6ivs ditto over and over then bringing that pokemon to lv 100.

      Reply
        • So basically, from what I read in the comments in your post, either you hack a perfect Ditto-or you go to the Battle Tree 24/7 every time you want to breed a certain Pokémon. Welp! Time to get my climbing gear, because I got to move up on this tree.

          Reply
        • Well, it’s good that there is a discount for gold. You can make perfect Pokemon in price of 4 IV Pokemon.

We can still use a hybrid method. Actually breeding 4 IV is not that time consuming when you have right parents (In XY & ORAS finding good IVd Pokemon was easy, those can be transferred from there unless it is hard to find good IVd Pokemon in SM). Then you can use 1 regular bottle to make it 5IV since usually one stat is redunant unless you want to have mixed Pokemon.

          Reply
    • I’m confused, so the stats go up as if it were at 31 but doesn’t actually change it to that, correct? This really messes up my plans orz

  41. The way hyper training makes sense, there’s no altering of the Pokemon’s genetics, but they just reach their full potential.

And it is cool, so basically we only need to worry about nature and hidden power type (and 0/1 speed for trick room mons) when catching/breeding.

  42. Speaking of Hyper Training. Has anyone said anything about the rarity of the bottle caps used for Hyper Training? I imagine they wouldn’t be too common, but are there a finite amount in which once we use them they are gone or do they just come slowly and we can have as many as we want?

-Need minimum of 2 flawless IVs per egg; don’t mind if they have more, must not be less. Must also have rounded minimum of ‘relatively superior’ stats.
-Please PM me to exchange FCs and make a trade; I’m posting this offer on multiple forums and I remember from doing this before, it can get confusing trying to keep track of comment replies. I am LadySasaki both on Pokejungle forums and BulbaGarden Forums.
-Must be in eggs, please, I want them to have my trainer ID.
-Once egg is hatched and checked in the 7th gen, I will send over your chosen mythical in the 6th gen.
-All the Pokemon I offer are legit, collected myself through mystery gift wifi events or codes. I offered this same eggs for mythicals deal on Bulba garden forums back when the 6th gen started – I can find you screenshots and references if you want to check I am legit.
-Most* Pokemon are from the 2016 mythical distribution so have 3 flawless IVs. If you are interested I can check the Pokemon’s IVs with the judge. *a few are from Unova, so don’t.
-I’m in Europe so when I get the game will already be 5 days behind some of y’all. I don’t mind waiting for the eggs! 🙂
-I also happen to be looking for a Volcanion from the recent event, any nature, any IVs, for my 6th gen dex. Will trade any 1 of the Pokemon on offer for your Volcanion!
-Final note: you are helping me start my Alola adventure in style. Thank you

          Reply
        • Apparently both Horde battles and Super training are not in the game. It seems you’ll have to do ev training through the Festival plaza or do things the old fashion way.

          Reply
          • At this point I don’t know how much Festival Plaza increases things by, but it can only be assumed its quick high and fast if they’ve removed two of the fastest methods for ev training.

As for IV training, I feel that its fair. Grinding doesn’t seem likely to be that hard, though I haven’t seen any confirmation about how long post game grinding will take, and 200bp, assuming its handed out like candy like in Gen 6, for max iv’s is fair.

        • Red Card is a one time use item. Emergency Exit only happens one time after taking damage from an opponent that drops your health below half. EE will only get set off again later if you use something like Leech Life that restores you health back above 50%.

Sadly I think I read that when Red Card and EE both activate, it’s simultaneous. So even though I pick my swap in and my opponent doesn’t, I unfortunately do not get to directly respond to whatever pops out from Red Card.

However, with my limited knowledge of the story, it seems the the best way to pitch it would be saying if you took the quality of BW’s story, and then gave it the competence of Platinum’s story.

        • I would say yes. What little I know about the story I love. It has compelling villain’s right up their with Cyrus, fun characters, and some twists that legit caught me off guard and I kind of love. Like finding out who Prof. Kukui’s wife is actually a huge love letter to fans of a specific pokemon game. Really I can’t think of anything that really comes across as bad with the story, but as I stated before my taste’s are different.

          • I mean yeah it’ll be a waste of money if you don’t replay the game or need to constantly have access to all the games features but for peeps like me who can easily pick up the game and reset a ton it and bank are uber handy

          • But that’s what trading is for. It doesn’t make sense to me to buy both versions. But I know plenty of people do it.
            Eh…whatever. Let it be.

          • The thing is, we know it’s the same game, it’s like what Dazzling said. I like having a game to do battling, breeding, completing the dex on, and a game to restart whenever. I love playing the games over and over again with different teams, and it’s hard to do that with only one copy, especially if you want to do other things that are easier to do with a completed game.
It makes sense that way, to have both games to be able to do both things. Or, maybe you wanna do two different runthroughs at the same time. Or use all the starters during the main game and see how they play.

          • I’ve literally said over and over its handy to have a finished copy and an ‘expendable copy’ regardless if the game comes in two copies or not

The online moaning from both sides is hardly even close to it

          • Yeah but people don’t legit hate each other over it besides outliers who would be acted with either result

          • So start living by example. We have to see everyone’s point of view. Not just those who share our views. This is my personal biggest takeaway from this election. I was guilty of it too. It’s easy to call someone sexist and racist and feel like you’ve won an argument. But the other person is only going to feel attacked, dig their heals in, and try to push back. It’s a negative feedback loop that can only be stopped if we decide to stop it. We must push ourselves to see truely why people feel differently than ourselves, and realize that even after seeing someone else’s POV and vice verse, it’s ok if people disagree. What matters is making sure we disagree peacefully.

          • YES YES YESSSS
I wanna upvote this a million times 🙂
I also feel, along with that, we treat people like other people. Realize that the other side is just like us, wanting to be loved and supported. By making them the enemies and treating them subhuman, no one wins. Listen to them, and allow them to listen to you. 🙂

          • this was a historical election with so much on the line and we elected DONALD TRUMP, the dnc rigged it against bernie and there were cyberattacks from the Kremlin that could have put trump in power (although I think it was just the american people being IDIOTS)

          • Rigged… Right. Now you sound like Trump!

He won because the Dems offered a candidate who’s entire campaign was that “She’s got experience in politics.” Even though people were looking for outsiders this election. And the Rust Belt, ya know those people who everyone’s just strawmanning and calling racists and sexists, who haven’t voted for the GOP presidential candidate since the ’70s voted for Trump because they’re the blue collar, union worker types and they heard Trump talking about keeping factories here, etc.

You people can keep going on and on about how stupid everyone is, but if we, the socially progressive, are truely so enlightened and know better than to hate people for the wrong reasons. Then stop hating people for hating for the wrong reasons. If we’re truely understand how empathize and reach out better than others. Then start doing so. And not just for those you deem worthy of it.

          • As an outsider I have to say Bernie seemed to be a much better option than the main 2 opposing party candidates.

This isn’t because I’m not necessarily happy about the election, it’s because my closest friend, who supports Trump, keeps on bullying me for being a Democrat or even if I say something like “eh, I don’t care that much. I feel like Trump will do okay, and if not, he won’t last.” He keeps calling me a “flip-flopper” because I’m pro-democratic and now I’m showing acceptance towards Trump winning. I’ve been feeling emotionally harassed all week and I definitely don’t want to retreat to my home sweet home on the internet, only to have to see people argue over Politics again. • The problem isn’t that they support him, it’s that he Denies they do and Doesn’t think it’s a bad thing. Unless he has since that incident

          • Because under Trump, the worst kinds of people, the racists, the sexists, the homophobes have much more power. I’m not saing all Trump supporters are terrible people, but Trump is honestly a recipe for disaster. Between the wall(which is not going to get built but still), Pence, his flip-flops on LGBTQ issues, wanting to keep Muslims all together out of America (which has been removed from his website hmmmm)
It’s okay to be scared of it all

          • That’s because Congress was mostly Republican, Drumpf is Republican, CONGRESS IS STILL mostly REPUBLICAN. which means they’re many times likely to go along with him than a democratic congress.

          • Yea but that doesn’t make him a king and politicians, historically, very seldom act on even half the crap they say on the campaign trail. For instance, I’ve always seen news reports on how Trump silently took down off his campaign website their stuff about wanting to ban Muslim immigration. Whether or not I agree with Trump on everything, it was very clear he was willing to say anything during the campaign, but was more than ready to say kind words about every he beat on his way to victory. He took mudslinging politics to an extreme, but he’s shown more than once his ability to turn on a dime and say kind things to people a believed put up a good fight.

    • I think you should stay. But obviously can’t make you. I supported neither but was ready to accept either as president cause that’s just reality. It made me very happy to see you doing the same. I’d like more people like you to stick around.

    • As my Calc III professor put it, Trump can’t do much. We’re all a flock of sheep, and one sheep happens to lead us for some time. America is a tide, and the one molecule on the tip of it supposedly drags the rest of us, but that doesn’t mean what they do we HAVE to do. We’re still our own people, with our own beliefs, our own desires. He’s already backpedaling on some policies from what I’ve seen. Trump is President, but we shouldn’t hate him for it. Otherwise we’re just like those who hated Obama when he was elected. Just gotta deal with it.

What I’m personally worried is what people bring from Trump’s win over Hillary. I’ve heard stories of Hispanics being bullied in my hometown because Trump’s supporters are racist. I’m worried about the stories I hear from my friends in NY, whose friends have been told to “move to the back of the bus if Trump is president now.”

    • Believe me, my best friend is a Republican who would have voted for Trump ifshe didn’t have issues with her voting info and whatnot. But we both know that at the end of the day, what we have are opinions and shouldn’t be used against the other. Real friends don’t bully their friends just because their friends happen to accept the fact that the other candidate won and there is a bright side.
I’ve said all that I’ve said before about this election somewhere else, so I have no need to continue it here, hence why I’ve been silent.
I’m like you though, at the very least we should just love each other and move past this. We’re all people at the end of the day, that just happen to have different opinions. Comfort the people who are scared by this decision, respect the ones that decided for it. Maybe, if we did that, we can heal.
I went off on a tangent, but I think you got the idea.

        • Yeah totally understand. Even if we still love each other as best friends, we’ve been avoiding the election topic because we both would probably get super heated because of it.
I hope things do get better with your friend though. Maybe, one day, let him know how you feel about his actions so he can understand for himself and grow from it? At least, that’s what I would do in that scenario and what I would expect my friends to do if I did it to them.

    • What I liked in the Kanto starters was the order, perfect balanced transitions from one evolution the next, not only in design but theme ( the budding flower for example). Also the final three were very similar in terms of design too. I like the Alola stater finals individually, and probably prefer all 3 to the original Kantos, but as a group they’re weaker. If you’re asking about the mega evos, Kanto wins as all three mega designs were awesome. ( Not really a fair comparison though as Alola don’t have megas yet)

It stands quadruped (but the front legs are much thicker and fists) with armored hooves that scorch the ground with every step
It’s back contains numerous spikes and spires that leak fire, and it has angry glowing eyes and a long mane of fire and a snout that bellows out steam p

      It is code-named UB-13 Fury
      It is a Fire/Ground type
It is said this Ultra Beast’s temper flares up incredibly easy and has enough power to smash a mountain to rubble and burn the rubble to nothingness

    • Mine would be UB-Whatever: Guardian

Fairy/Steel, it’d basically be an Ultra Beast that could manipulate emotions in order to keep its young safe as well allies, as well as keeping enemies confused whilst not directly attacking

It’d be a stall mon with great bulk and terrible speed and attacking stats, and physically would be a blue capped glowing bunch of fairyfire fungi, with grey in the centre of each

From the fungi orb comes a veil as hard as steel, which can be made opaque to hide things under It, or display illusions on its surface

Other UBs seem based off of pests so I went for fungi

    cutiefly feels broken against Hala
You will likely have a team in the 12-17 range by the time you fight Hala, unless you grinded
You either will love or hate Rotom.
You get Tauros Pokeride just after beating Hala
There is a bit of dialogue if you did not use a Z move to beat Hala
Trainer customization is accessable VERY early, about an hour or so in the game. I don’t know about haircuts though….
There is a nice variety of mons early game
You get Fighting and Normal type z-moves in the first islands story
I kinda rushed the first island and didn’t explore so I could avoid lag, and it took me 2 and a half hours to be the first island.
The first trial is easy with a type that beats it, but I can tell later ones will be difficult.
It still seems like there is quite a bit on Melemele to explore …
Melemele is probably the smallest/shortest island.

    • Regional Magcargo, Electric/Water. It blasts heated electro-bubble streams from the sides of it’s shell to move at great speeds, especially underwater. The Mag part of it’s name is for Magnetic. Ability Swift Swim/Motor Drive.

  90. Upon arriving in Alola, Slugma was brought onto an island far from the volcano. Not fast enough to reach the Volcano before it became too cold to move at all they tried reaching it by going through the water between the islands even though it caused them great pain, seriously shocking their systems. After learning to swim with the currents and acclimatising to the natural magnetic fields of the island they began to change. Unfortunately for Slugma upon finally mastering the waves and finally reaching the volcano island they found they could no longer take the heat and so returned to the island whence they came. Upon evolving into Magcargo it gains vast control over it’s own magnetic field, using it’s own electrical energy and the bubble streams from the sides of it’s shell to propel itself through the ocean at blistering speeds. Type: Water (Slugma) Water/Electric (Magcargo), Ability: Swift Swim/Inner Focus (Slugma) Swift Swim/Motor Drive (Magcargo). The ‘ma’ of Slugma and ‘Mag’ of Magcargo now stand for Magnetic.

    3. Route 1
This theme. I’ve been waiting to hear this theme clearly since that fateful day of June 14th, during the E3 demo. I loved that track, but NOBODY RECREATED IT. But finally, after waiting far too long, I get to listen clearly anytime I want, and it lives up to the wait fully.
    2. Elite 4 battle.
Not much to say here, but IMO it’s the best E4 battle theme we’ve ever had; you can just feel the tension in the music.
    1. Vast Poni Canyon
This track is BEAUTIFUL. It perfectly expresses a feeling of exploration and excitement of Poni. I can’t wait to hear this from the downgraded music quality of my 3ds.

  92. Can anybody confirm whether Super Training is in the game, and if so, how early? I want to super train all my Pokemon as soon as I get them.

    Reply
    • The Super Training replacement is Poke Pelago and Festival Plaza with services

      Poke Pelago:

      – At the third and final upgrade, Isle Evelup has 3 groups. Each group can have up to 6 Pokemon each and each group can focus on training one stat at a time.

-WITHOUT Poke Beans, each group gains 4 EVs every 30 minutes (8 EVs per hour or 31 and a half hours to max a stat).

-WITH Poke Beans, each group gains 4 EVs every 15 minutes (16 EVs per hour or 15 and a half hours to max a stat).

-You can set the precise interval you want to train if you want to reach a specific final EV.

      Festival Plaza:

-One of the booth types in the Plaza is a shop that sells EV boosting drinks (for Festival Coins – FC – basically Poke Miles). At the highest level, these shops sell drinks that can fully maximize a stat.

-The shops can sell multiple EV maxing drinks (“Max HP”, “Max Def” etc.) but you can only buy each drink once a day per shop (meaning that you could buy both the HP and the Def drink in one day).

-You can have up to 7 booths in your Plaza, and they can be duplicates of one another. In other words, in the best case scenario, YOU CAN *INSTANTLY* MAXIMIZE EACH STAT UP TO 7 TIMES PER DAY

-You can check what booths both random players and friends have and clone their booths to your plaza. In other words, if someone gets a good booth, it can spread like Pokerus. Just add someone from /wfg/ with it and its yours. Quick and easy.

-There are medium and small size drinks as well in lower tier shops.

Info from /vp, though sadly it may be a slow process to get these services

    • Yea, but the damage is done. I doubt this will affect Sun and Moon sales, but I virtually know everything that happens in the game. I don’t care about spoilers, so I’m still planning on buy Sun based on Alolan Ninetails being a version exclusive. Anyways, there are still people uploading stuff and people streaming the game on Twitch and Youtube. Not to mention the ROM leaking and people trying to use Citra to play it. I just hope GameFreak finds a way to diminish leaks like this in the future; similar to what they did with OR/AS.
Also, I absolutely loved the movie A Cabin in the Woods. That GIF is perfect!

  101. Sun/Moon has been completely thrashed by the hackers/leakers. Games ship out early, so I’m beginning to think that people who work at any game selling store are just obtaining or giving out copies early. Anyways, I don’t think knowing almost everything about Sun/Moon will affect sales at all. People still want to play the games. What I utterly detest is the use of emulators to play Sun/Moon. Can’t people just buy a 2DS and wait less than a week at this point to play it? Honestly, emulating games is a controversial topic; but I seriously hope that people still support Sun/Moon while emulating, or at least plan to.

    • Pretty much what’s in the trailers. The most I’ve managed to learn, and will update as I get a bit more information about them is it seems that FP is going to be the “best” way to raise ev’s with it seeming to have a minigame similar to Super Training, but I don’t know for certain. All I’ve been able to find is that their is a minigame that does allow you to raise your ev’s somewhere in the game, but it’s highest payout is 8 ev’s. Which in all honesty isn’t that bad.

      Reply
      • Horde Training with Power Item example:
        1 EV + 4 EV’s (power item) = 5 EV’s
        5 EV’s x 2 (Pokérus)= 10 EV’s
        10 x 5 (5 pokemon in horde) = 50 ev’s
This is a minimum Horde Training with Pokérus yield.
Horde Training, the best way to EV train ever introduced, now gone.

        • Yeah, but let’s be honest. That was kind of broken. And having six models on screen did cause the game to chug a bit, so it might be for the best.

          Reply
          • Broken because you could do it quickly? That’s the kind of broken that benefits everyone. Even if it had a slight issue being on screen, the trade off is majorly worth it imo.

          • TO the player, yes, but not to the dev. A feature that might help the player, but actively makes the game run worse isn’t something their going to leave in.

  104. So apparently (gameplay spoilers) triple battles and rotation battles are gone. I’m not sure if they’re gone in wifi battles, but they’re gone in the tree and everywhere else. I was never a fan but it sucks anyway. As long as we can have multi battles I’m happy (I’m scared that battle royale replaced them).

        • HP Dark is a pretty poor choice anyway imo. HP Ice would be better.

But yeh soft resetting for nature, IVs and HP is not gonna be fun at all.

          Reply
          • I wanted better coverage based on my super effective gaps. Ice was predominantly redundant. If/when the meta consolidates, if I were to still be playing this team, I’ll get someone to readjust the IVs.

          • Thing with HP is that it is only useful if you hit something for 4x super effective damage. The base power is way too low for anything else. HP Dark only hits Ghost/Psychics for 4x damage. HP Ice hits more things. Perosnally I wouldn’t got for a HP on it since it’s base SpA is really low anyway.

Chuck Protect on it if it’s for VGC.

          • Protect is invaluable in VGC. It lets you scout the opponent’s moves. Because it’s doubles you use Protect strategically to bait the opponent to attack the Pokemon you’re gonna protect with while you attack them with your other. You can also stall out Rain and TR turns.

          • One thing to keep in mind though is that Protect has gotten a small nerf as of Gen 7. Z-moves are able to damage though them, though they do about 1/4 of their usual damage. So be smart and don’t think you can protect through a super effective Z-move.

          • Well that and Dazzling/QM but at least with those abilities you know exactly who has them so you can actively play around it. Z-Move is a total guess for the first game.

          • True. But this is gonna a work as a double edged sword.

Do you attack with a Z-move predicting the Protect so you get damage off. Or do you not use the Z-move fearing the Protect lowering it’s power and you not getting the KO.

          • You could do, but since Raichu has Fake Out and it’s usually gonna be abusing Surf Surger it might not be that necessary on it. But having said that I rarely see Volt Switch much in VGC, usually only ever on Rotom-W

          • Well I know the champ last year ran it on his Raichu. But that Raichu was for support not a sweeper. But I figure with it going to be a slower format that when I need to protect Raichu-A I can still get damage in with Volt Switch, then swap to something else to take the hit I’m predicting.

  106. With all of the changes and possibilities this Generation, I might actually get into competitive battling… would surely extend the life cycle of the game for me!
Ever since I spoiled myself on one MAJOR postgame detail, my hype has gone up exponentially. I can’t wait to see how that particular event plays out! (Please, no one mention specifics about it.)
