[NEW] Pokémon Sun & Moon Demo Leaks New Pokémon & More

The article below contains spoilers for Pokémon Sun & Moon.

We have chosen not to publish any images obtained from the demo version and as such the information below is a text rundown of what has been uncovered. The comment section of this article will also contain spoilers.

The demo version of Pokémon Sun & Moon is currently live in some regions and some avid trainers have gotten to work uncovering everything the demo has to offer.

It seems that lessons haven’t been learned from Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire and the demo files contain information on some currently unannounced Pokémon and over information. It’s unknown if the demo contains files for all new Pokémon in the games, though at this point it seems almost definite.

Leaked Information

Alolan Forms

The demo contains files confirming the existence of many more Alolan Pokémon:

  • Geodude, Graveler and Golem
  • Diglett and Dugtrio
  • Persian

  • There are at least five new Ultra Beasts, bringing the total to 8

  • Magearna has a form that looks more like a traditional Poké Ball
  • Ash Pikachu is in the game and appears to be able to wear Ash’s hat from each region of the anime
  • [NEW] The Pokémon models found within the demo are only from Pokémon found in the Alola Pokédex

[NEW] Pokémon Moves

  • It seems there are a total of 719 moves in the games, by comparison Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire had 621
  • 3 of these new moves appear to be taught via TM
  • 29 of the new moves are Z-Moves (18 Z-Moves for each type and 11 special Z-Moves)
  • HMs no longer exist and are not available as a regular TM

[NEW] Items

  • There are 920 items present in the demo, 58 of which are related to Z-Moves
  • A new medicinal item similar to Lava Cookie that cures all
  • A new battle item with held effect (like Dire Hit)
  • At least 6 new holdable items with effects

  • The Strange Souvenir item data appears unchanged in the games

We will update with further details if and when they come.

REMEMBER: This information is currently unannounced and has been leaked from the demo. Please respect the wishes of others and mark your spoilers correctly.

  1. So if we are expecting Fossil pokemon, if their similar to Hawaiian Fossil records I can see it either being a botanical or marine in nature. Since most of hawaii’s fossils are aquatic life or plants, iirc.

    Reply
      • These maybe most modern fossil we will have to date in this game since most recent fossil in Hawaiian come from this period, the Quaternary Period.

        Reply
        • Quaternary meaning after the ice age? Hmm… that’s tough. That makes me think, why not just make non-fossils instead.

Though, there are some extinct hawaiian species like certain dog breeds and at least one flightless bird, right?

          Reply
          • I mean I can see Rock/Grass that looks like an ancient plant, I can see ancient marine line such as coral, mollusk, sharks. Or some post ice-age fossil.

  2. Do you know what I hate more than Fire/Fighting…

    Normal/Flying.

It was a long trend from the very beginning that the regional birds had, until Talonflame broke it. Not only that, but there’s Fearow, Dodrio, Farfetch’d, Chatot, and Braviary.

And Pikican doesn’t seem that it will be innovative. I guess that they sacrificed unique rodents and birds for a unique bug

    • I wish there was more variety for sure. But I also kind of like the consistency. It makes the game feel more like a consistent world with a standardized biology. Like real life, there are some exceptions, but a lot of the worlds wildlife is a variation of the same thing, in a different region.

    • That new ball looks dope even if it’s only for UBs, based on its design and light effects it makes sense it would be only for them. Just a bit sad you can catch them since it lessens them in a way

  3. IN TERMS OF FOSSILS, Kaphotics has confirmed that there will be no new fossils in Sun and Moon, since there are “no fossils on volcanic islands.”

IN TERMS OF THE DATAMINE VIDEO PART 4: The link to the video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mh7RNb_PK1c. Kaphotics confirms that HMs are gone and gives the full TM list. He describes some new items, as well as the Strange Souvenir, whose item data is not changed. There are Z-Moves for every type. Primal Reversion and Hoopa Unbound were found in the data. It also appears that what we got is what we are getting for Sun and Moon. All new Pokemon have been revealed.

      • I don’t mind standalones, but it does make me sad if their stats aren’t good enough to make them usable, because then they’re pretty much just dex fller. I hope I’m going to be proved wrong, but Komala does not look like it’s gonna be very capable in battle.

    • I’m sorry but this whole ‘there’s no fossils on volcanic islands’ explanation is silly. I’m pretty sure pandas aren’t native to France, yet we still got Pancham in Kalos. If there’s no fossils, fine, but I wish people would just say that and not feel the need to come up with a very real-world excuse for a very fantastical game.

  4. What ever fastened to the original Chinese leaker’s dolphin and snowman? I wonder if they were removed during testing…

    • Tauros looks like a complete Pokemon. It functions well as a standalone. Same with Lapras.
Komala looks like it could have an evolution

The problem is not with the standalones, it’s when a standalone Pokemon looks incomplete as if it could have an evolution.

      • I feel it saves a lot of variety. For instance there’s a lot of Pokemon who people consider their pre-evolution to be far superior to their final forms. However by choosing to opt out of evolving, your using a viable, but still significantly weaker Pokemon. So with these ones that feel “incomplete” there are Pokemon for people who aren’t just trying to get a bigger Pokemon and are happy with the small.

I like evolving Pokemon more than ones that don’t but I 100% get the appeal of Pokemon that don’t evolve and evolution that are disappointing. I feel like there’s also a weird bias at play which takes something small and assumes it always has to be something more. Which is a design consumption flaw, even when it’s Pokemon.

But if we wanna talk about incomplete Pokemon, people have been waiting for that farfetch evolution since blue/red, haha.

        • Sometimes it’s about stats and competitive play as well. I know a lot of folks were hoping to use komala but something like that would never stand a chance in competitive play

          Reply
    • They have a bias for big vs little. Where if something is small, it has to turn into something big to be worth it.

There is also a sort of spoiled aspect, that’s totally fair. Where Pokemon used to be about evolving them. But now the games are becoming more about the Pokemon and their varieties, and not just how they change. Which I think is a good thing. I don’t need every cool pokemon to evolve into something ugly.

    • It’s just so weird with certain mons that I sort of doubt that’s all we’re getting. But if it is all that we’re getting, it’s just what we gotta accept really.

      Reply
    • The dataminers have confirmed that all they can find in the demo is the data for the regional dex. So the only way we’ll have undiscovered Pokemon is if Gamefreak do what they did in D/P and have new Pokemon in the full game’s national dex. It’s unlikely but not completely impossible. I think we should brace ourselves that this is all we’re getting.

  5. yfw when Wimpod’s evo is still a wimp, and still has Wimp Out and has idle animations of it curling up into a ball and crying during battle.

  6. HMS are gone, folks, can I get a HALLELUJAH? 😀

Sad about the loss of the bike. I know we have pokeride now, but as a breeder I spent so many hours on the bike and always considered it a neat part of the game that should never be scrapped.

  7. To be honest, the more I think about it

Komala and Pyukumuku not evolving makes sense: Komala already resembles an adult Koala! It’s already fully grown, it’s just that it’s a small Pokémon based on a small animal. As for Pyukumuku, the same kinda applies, as well as the fact it seems to be the joke Pokémon of this Gen due to how it fights and how it’s so inefficient it’ll sometimes let itself starve to death before moving.

Comfey and Mimikyu are less surprising, but it’s obvious it’s because their abilities. Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if they got Evolutions in the future if GameFreak ever returns to them if they turn out to be flops.

Oranguru, Passimian and Anchordude just look like stand alones.

So, it’s possible, but not likely, that there are some more new Pokemon, but they aren’t in the regional Dex, like Gen 4 Sinnoh. But I doubt it.
