          • The price one pays for having a myriad of features on a website.

IMO modern web design seems to be orienting towards having more and more clutter under the hood, forgoing knowledge of what actually gets used.

          • Is there something you don’t like about the site currently, or was that just a general observation?

Relatively speaking we actually have very, very few features compared to other sites. The issue was caused by the site having it’s time set in some timezone that I’m pretty sure none of us staff live in.

          • Both, sort of, more of an observation about modern sites in general. A lot of modern sites tend to go overboard with using javascript things and extra stuff, or the javascript parts are overengineered.

Yeah, this site is pretty good compared to some (my ds can’t even load modern wikia-based sites because they changed the format several months ago, Wikipedia itself has always remained good though).

I just wonder sometimes though, how many people actually reach the bottom of the page to see the stuff down there, or use anything other than the links to the forums, the Disqus area and the article itself. Not to mention there’s two sets of Facebook buttons and three places where Twitter is linked to. I could be wrong, (I probably am) since I’m not exactly the typical internet user, they probably do all get used, but I sometimes wonder these things.

Presumably that means it was due to appear at a certain time but the time zone it was in was behind the time expected or something.

          • Ah, that’s all fair enough! I think it’s probably important to say we’re still playing with alternate formats for the content on the site (though changes won’t be as huge as they were when we first changed).

I think the area at the bottom is something we will change almost completely.

Rather than going up it just changed the scheduled time and didn’t do anything.:(

          • Well, I’ve stuck around so you’re doing something 90% these sorts of websites can’t manage 😛

I’ll admit the images are quite nice, but I get the feeling most people probably don’t notice them down there. The other stuff (apart from the copyright notice) is (IMO) less important, but might do well with a life further up.

Programming with time is almost always tricky. I try to stick to handling things using UTC as much as possible (not that I have to handle actual times much beyond messing with file timestamps, usually I’m working with things on the order of magnitudes of nanoseconds and milliseconds).

  1. I wish they would have put more elite 4 members into the anime like sinnoh, because the only one that appeared in the bw anime is Caitlin

  2. lol I didn’t realize how little of an impression the Unova Elite 4 left me, despite them showing te most personality from their rooms, and battling them so often (I replayed BW alot).
This is the first showdown where I don’t have a clear favorite, but I voted for Caitlin nonetheless.

  3. I like them all except Marshal. But I had to go with Grimsley. His design is really cool and fancy. His hair reminds me of Thor’s helmet.

  4. One of the best gens in terms of E4 designs. I love Caitlin and Grimsely is <3 so it's so hard to chose between them. In the end I'd have to go with Caitlin, but I still love Grimsely ( and even Shauntal). Definitely a,lng my favourite characters.

    • Set order easily.

I like the level scaling. It’s not even really difficulty scaling since Lorelei is the hardest of the Kanto Elite 4. The idea of them being harder as you go along lore wise is cool to me.

    • Honestly I really get why they decided to implement order choice, it differentiates them from gym leaders and makes a great deal of sense in-universe (I mean so does having some be stronger than others, but it’s cool to have four equals), but as much as I love the idea in theory, in practice I still vastly prefer a set order, somehow not having one makes it feel unwelcomly easier and less organic (that’s also probably because it has been easier in recent gens, at least gen VI).

    • i lowkey liked choosing the order. i played BW2 so much so it felt nice to change the orders and not have the monotone order to reach the champion

  5. Grimsley, I liked his room with the vice thing that clamped down so you couldn’t turn back. He also has a cool design and I like his Pokémon the most.
Second would be Caitlin. Again for her room and character design.

  6. easily the best elite four. Design wise, character wise, soundtrack wise, team wise. everything about this elite four is amazing. they all did that! but i went with caitlin cause she was my favorite to battle. grimsley comes second tho shauntal third and then marshall. but they are literally the league of legends

  7. Okay doesn’t Dartrix kinda look like that one guy from Phoenix wright? I can’t remember his name, I’ve never actually played them, but if anyone else sees it then can they tell me (oh my I feel so stupid for asking a question like this)?

      • Same, although there are only a certain amount of wild pokemon available in the wild in Alola. Pokepelago could fill in those gaps (if it can even give us HA pokes). I also just hope the dexnav returns.

  8. Somebody won’t believe that but I vote for Caitlin ….Yeah I like badass and mysterious male characters but she kinda my type…..now don’t tell me I have sexism.

  9. Would have considered Shauntal if it werent for the weird clover shaped
thing round her neck. She kind of reminds me of someone I know.

Caitlin annoys me for various reasons despite being a Psychic type trainer.

Marshal… dear god what has that man done to his hair. He clearly attempted to be intimidating and it backfired horribly.

    So
I’m going for Grimsley. Another snappy dresser and a scarf that screams
“B****, I’m Sugoi!”. (His team was half crappy though until he added
    Honchkrow, Houndoom and Tyrannitar.)

  10. Regarding the article, I really don’t find most Elite 4 members memorable save a few. In this case, Alder is more memorable to me than these people. I’m gonna have to go with Grimsley among the Unova E4 choices.

  11. Ok seriously though, Shauntaul is the best E4 member

    -Ghost type bby
-An awesome theme of being a mysterious writer
    – Cool E4 chamber
-Isn’t a weird old lady with a witch nose and actually looks more like a ghost Pokemon user than a water type user
-Would look super cute in a witch hat tho
    – She has a chandelure
    – I think she’s the best so you all should vote for her to validate my opinion

  12. Speaking of these guys,I had a hilarious and lucky run during my Black 2 playthrough many years ago.
My team: Sin ( m Serperior ) Adamant: Return,Coil,Leech Seed and Leaf Blade
    Edge ( m Lucario ) Jolly: Force Palm,Swords Dance,Ice Punch,Shadow Claw
    Thorn ( m Arcanine ) Careful: Flamethrower,Toxic,Bulldoze,Crunch
    Petra ( f Swanna ) Hardy: Fly,Surf,Roost,Air Slash
    Ricta ( f Krooodile ) Naughty: Earthquake,Crunch,Rock Slide,Attract
    Tiny ( f Galvantula ) Modest: Discharge,Electro-Web,Signal Beam,Energy Ball

Shauntal’s battle went quick with nothing special happening.
Grimsley’s battle,Edge sets up one Swords Dance and swept his team.
Catlin’s battle,Ricta swept her entire team thanks to Moxie, and for some reason Catlin withdrew Musharna for Reuniclus turn one
Marshall’s battle,Petra got really lucky and swept due to flinching Sawk,Throh and Conkeldurr trying to Bulk up.
Iris’ battle,Tiny took out Hydreigon with one Signal Beam.Edge got lucky against Druddigon with Focus Blast missing while setting up a Swords Dance. He then OHKO’d Druddigon.Breaks Aggron’s Sturdy but it used Atomize.Brought Haxourus down to its sash, but it used Dragon Dance.Lapras and Archeops were OHKO’d

  13. The only one I don’t really care for is Marshal, so it was tough for me to choose. But, I love Shauntal a little more than I do Caitlin, and I only really like Grimsley for his design and aesthetic.
I like the Ghost-type, love her design and room designs, love her dialogue/personality, and she writes books! (She’s a Ghost trainer version of me :D) so yeah 🙂

  14. Holy crap… I didn’t even vote and it seems to have chosen my choice. o.o because Shauntal’s name is bolded and italicized.

  15. So apparently, the GTS and other online features are found in the Festival Plaza. I would’ve much rather have had it stay on the menu for convenience.

  16. This is the generationt that ruined the e4 challenge so i resent this group. Not to mention they are all forgettable and boring. What the heck did caitlin do to Darach? He was the brawn and brain of the battle castle!

  17. Well I’m voting for Grimsley. I’ve always loved his design and the whole old world Gothic (those medieval clothes?)nobility vibe he gives off. I absolutely love his quote “If somebody wins, the person who fought against that person will lose. That’s battle. A good contender just seeks the next victory without bragging after winning, and without getting upset after losing.”

  18. Not that I’m complaining, because the Gen IV Elite 4 didn’t leave much of an impression on me, but I’m surprised Flint won. I remembered playing DPPT that he struck me as a bit of a sore loser. I know, I know, he’s a flame and he starts energized and burns out while Volkner gets charged up from battles (Really clever concept). However, I remember back when the games came out, he struck me as such a… Such a… Such a kid, I guess?… Oh no! I’m turning into Iris! T.T
