  • Lycanroc is the name of Rockruff’s Evolution. It’s Midday Form is exclusive to Sun version and is Rock-type with the ability Keen Eye/Sandrush. Midnight Form Lycanroc is exclusive to Moon version, remains Rock-type and has the ability Keen Eye/Vital Spirit

  1. If the Lugarugan have day night evos rather than version exclusive, then the starter theory may hold up, but if they are version exclusive, I seriously doubt it. There’s no way they would make version exclusive starters, as cool as it would be.

    Reply
      • It just kinda seems extremely unlikely that GF would make version exclusive starters, and it seems plausible to have day night evos, considering the theme of the game.

  2. alright guys it’s guessing time: what will we see next in the new Pokemon Sun and Moon trailer?:

  5. Must be Rockruff evolutions, see them in action and have them explained to us. Leaving people confused could affect pre orders for version exclusives. I don’t see starter evolutions either as they will keep the suspense of how Rockruff’s evolution will tie in with starters. Cutiefly evo is likely for me and perhaps a new Alolan form or new pokemon but i dont think it will be like previous massive reveals, probably slow down a little and then in mid October come back big!

    Reply
    • oh please we’re not getting those anytime soon
The Alolan forms are whoring in the slots to make new pokemon by reskinning old ones

      Reply
      • I’d be fine with 70-80 new ‘mons and 20-30 Alolan forms, as X and Y just had 70-80 new ‘mons.
Since the game’s 3D it takes more work, as they have to create a model and animations instead of a few sprites.

        Reply
    • I’d love it, but I don’t think they will do it. Megas took their place last generation, Alolan are doing it this generation.

And I don’t say “took their place” in terms of having the same mechanics, I say it in terms of being a novelty related to old Pokemon.

  6. Let’s do this thing.

Also, about Pokémon and NX. It seems an NDA stopped being valid recently, which is what a website claimed would happen yesterday. Ishihara announced that Game Freak is developing for the NX AND confirmed that it’s a hybrid device. Things are going DOWN!

  7. So, out of curiosity, does today’s info on Pokemon Bank also mention an update to PokeTransfer? Like will it be used to transfer gen 5 Pokemon to gen 6 and then Gen 1 and 6 Pokemon to gen 7?

  8. Gimme an Alola Eevee that has access to Dragon, Ground, Rock, Steel, and Ghost evos.

Lol I know that won’t happen, but I thought it’d be funny to suggest.

  12. Lycanroc (Midday Form)

When Rockruff is bathed in profuse amounts of solar energy, it evolves into its Midday Form. In the world of Pokémon Sun, Solgaleo’s influence causes Rockruff to evolve into this form.

Lycanroc lives solo in mountains and deserts, not creating a pack. Each has its own territory, and they live without interfering with one another, which helps to avoid unnecessary fights.

Lycanroc obeys its Trainer’s orders dutifully. In particular, if a Trainer accepted it during its more rebellious pre-Evolution period, Lycanroc will never ever betray that Trainer and will be the most loyal of partners.

The Midday Form Lycanroc is known for speedy movements that leave its opponents bewildered. It dodges opponents’ strikes while attacking with the sharp rocks of its mane as it slips right past them.

Accelerock is a move that only Midday Form Lycanroc can learn. It slams into an opponent with quick moves. This move is guaranteed to strike first!

  13. Passimian is a Pokémon that only appears in Pokémon Sun. If you’re playing Pokémon Moon, you can obtain it by trading with someone playing Pokémon Sun.

Passimian live in troops of 20 to 30 individuals, all following a leader. This leader will take 10 of the individuals in the best condition to search for food. The troop’s teamwork is strong, and the boss of each troop decides what mark members will wear on their arms to distinguish the troops.

The boss puts the troop members through training to improve their coordination with one another and their skill in handling Berries. Apparently this training is so hard that some Passimian end up running away.

Lobbing Berries at foes is how Passimian attack. They sometimes work in coordination with others, passing Berries back and forth to bewilder their opponents. Passimian don’t just pitch hard Berries at opponents, either—they also have a technique that uses soft Berries to obscure their opponent’s ability to see.

Passimian wants its Trainer to have the qualities of a leader as well. It watches a Trainer’s form closely when he or she throws Poké Balls, and will not listen to the orders of a Trainer with poor form.

Passimian has a new Ability, Receiver, which no other Pokémon has previously had. With the Receiver Ability, this Pokémon can inherit the Ability of an ally who faints in battle.

  14. When Rockruff is bathed in an abundance of lunar energy, it evolves into its Midnight Form. In the world of Pokémon Moon, Lunala’s influence causes Rockruff to evolve into this form.

Midnight Form Lycanroc provokes its opponents by pressing in hard and inviting their attack. When an opponent falls for this tactic and attacks, Lycanroc counters with its forte: a single devastating blow that finishes off its foe! The stronger its opponent is, the more excited for battle Lycanroc becomes. It doesn’t mind getting hurt if it means victory in battle. Battles thrill it so much that its eyes glow.

Contempt rises in this Pokémon for Trainers who give orders it doesn’t agree with or who try to force it to battle. On the other hand, it will feel a deep trust in a Trainer who can truly draw forth its power in battle.

Counter is a move that Rockruff can learn when it evolves into Midnight Form Lycanroc. When Lycanroc takes physical damage from an opponent, it deals double that damage back to the same opponent.

  15. CATEGORY Sage Pokémon
    TYPE Normal/Psychic
    HEIGHT 4’11”
    WEIGHT 167.6 lbs.
    ABILITY Inner Focus / Telepathy
Oranguru is a Pokémon that appears only in Pokémon Moon. If you’re playing Pokémon Sun, you can obtain it by trading with someone playing Pokémon Moon.

Oranguru live solitary lives deep in the forests and do not usually take much action. Instead, they position themselves high up in the trees to meditate. Long ago, people thought that Oranguru were humans who dwelled in the forest depths, so they called them “the people of the forests.” Oranguru is kind to the other Pokémon living in the forest, providing medicine for injured Pokémon and food for the hungry.

Oranguru sometimes act on their own initiative and will use items that only humans normally use. From a Trainer’s perspective, they can be hard Pokémon to handle at times. Allegedly, there have been sightings of Oranguru using Poké Balls!

The fan-like objects held by Oranguru are handmade by the Oranguru themselves. These fans appear to be made of layers of leaves bound together with Oranguru’s own fur.

Instruct is a move that only Oranguru can learn. It can make the selected target use its most recent move again immediately.

Especially Pikachu’s hahahaha I am kind of bummed it seems that Lycanroc is completely version exclusive rather than it being simply based on time, but it is waht it is I guess…..lol

  21. yet another disappointing batch of pokes
i don’t like Passimion nor Oranguru
and they made matters worse by giving eevee even more popularity by a stupid Z-move that super charges it to ridiculous levels

I still haven’t had any additions to my team and its really making me angry

  22. Wow. I guess I’m switching from Moon to Sun. I absolutely love the Pokemom selection in the game. I want my Rugby Monkey. Also, the character customisation is just perfect! They added way more in this game! Now we could remove hats and wear glasses!

      • Because it’s a new mechanic that isn’t simply expanding on a previously existing mechanic so there will always be people that hate and fear change.

        Reply
        • It’s just not necessary. Why have a super powerful attack? And them giving special z moves to specific pkm is ridiculous, just like charizard getting two mega evolutions just because it’s popular

          Reply
          • 1. Nothing is necessary. Pokémon is just another form of entertainment.
            2. Yea actually I think they’re very necessary within the context of the meta game. Mega’s, as badass as they are, only continued the limited pool of viable competitive Pokémon. Z-Moves are super strong moves any Pokémon can use and can add a layer of unpredictability and uniqueness to each team.
            3. Yes they pander to favorites. I will admit it annoys me too at times, but this is a business. They should capitalize on what’s popular within the brand.

      • What is the point on a super last minute saving move? It just bails you out and makes you get lazy and sloppy rely on it too much.
Don’t see the point of it. Like their ain’t already too powerful moves out there.

  23. Yeah so I’m bummed we still haven’t received a dark type, but the primates are cool. Anyone willing to lay out what each version has? I like lunaala and beauty more than solgaleo and absorption. But lycanroc sun and passimian look way cooler. Still not sure if totem encounters are version exclusive, but the Raticate one is cooler imo. Plus, I was wanting to experience the moon 12 hour shift without changing my system’s clock. I’m so torn on which one to preorder! Help!

  24. A new National Pokédex feature is coming to help you check out the particulars of the Pokémon you’ve deposited!
When Pokémon Bank is updated to support Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, it will also gain a new Pokédex feature.

The application will read your saved data from any games* you connect with it, collecting information about Pokémon you’ve caught, so you can check it.

Using the Pokédex feature in Pokémon Bank, you’ll be able to see this information—even about Pokémon that don’t appear in the Alola region of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.

*The games that can connect with this Pokédex function are Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, and Pokémon Y.

  25. Also, I’m thinking no new Megas…

Z moves look like they are going to make battles too long. Those animations take forever. While the eevee one was awesome, I’d rather just take a pokemon with ancient power and get the stat boost.

    Reply
    • I typically turn off animations halfway through the games personally, but for VGC they’re gonna need to expand the time limit of each round by like 5 min. Haha

      Reply
    • I could see them being skippable or having the option to turn of animation during matches. Also, I doubt there will be new Megas as well. But, the Mega mechanic will return.

  27. AWW YEAH! Better trainer customization and Rockruff’s evolutions! Still happy with picking Sun as my preorder, but Moon looks sick too! I want ’em both. Also, looks like the “rugby monkey” Chinese leak was also true.

    Reply
    • Do people who preorder even get anything for doing it? I mean, we still don’t know all of the differences between the two versions and people already preordered the game x)

      Reply
      • I did it so that I could go to the store on the day it comes out and have my copy reserved (they’ll sell out quickly).
There haven’t been any pre-order exclusive offers as far as I know.

        Reply
          • ‘Murica. And since the only game that’s come out since I got into Pokemon was ORAS, I’m not sure they do. I pre-ordered it. Besides, Gamestop always tells you it’s going to sell out even if it doesn’t. Still not regretting my preorder, that way I can pay $5 at a time instead of $40 all at once.

  28. Okay love these reveals! Slightly sad I wont be able to get Passimian since I preordered Moon, But I like Organguru a lot and it seems like it will be deadly in double battles. Also sad the two Lycaroc’s are version exclusive. Oh well I like Night form version so it’s not the worst . Though Accelrock is deadly.

  29. Also kinda funny how they finally announced Trainer Customization though it was (obviously) hinted in past trailers. But my friend and I love them. My favorite thing is that we can have no hats if wanted, and more hair style and clothing options! While my friend loves it especially as there are more hair color options (including a unique white color!) and she loves that she can have her character wear sandles as well as Sun Glasses!

    Reply
    • i dont think it was annocued they were just showing how in-depth its gonna be. thats one thing i didnt like about ORAS was that i couldnt make the trainer in my own liking. even tho it was remake it was a feature i was sad to see to be removed

      Reply
      • Its nice to see it back tbh. Also I do hope they have a return of getting a Light Ball in the open wild like they did with ORAS (a god send imo) as I really want to breed myself my own Pikachu for my Sun play-through now knowing my ever trusty starter since my original Yellow version can dish out a serious Z-Move XD

  30. People will disagree, but I’m sure that the next games will have walking with pokemon.

    1. Graphics and engine are already complete
    2. Most of the Pokemon already seem to have a decent rig that will allow for lots of animation
    3. Not every pokemon has to be allowed to walk (Wailort etc.)
    4. Next games will probably be a Platinum remake so amity square would be back, why not go all out?

  34. I’m loving the new apes! But if Oranguru’s new attack straight up allows it’s parter Pokémon to attack a second time, then it will dominate in vgc, unless it gets horrible stats. I’m glad trainer customization has been improved dramatically too. I’m just bummed out to see that I’m going to have to transfer my Rockruff to Pokémon Sun, evolve him/her to Lycanroc and then transfer him/her back to my Moon version.

  38. Guys, I saw a lot of hidden details like the Amie removing Paralysis, and even something new called Festival Coins in the trainer customization corner (does that mean we can’t use normal in game currency for cloths now?!?!?).

    Reply
    • I’n not sure as I think it’s not clear yet, but my guess would be the that coins are for the dying of clothes and not actually buying them. I could be wrong, but I can’t see them keeping such a tight grip on the clothes.

      Reply
          • GF has been pretty adamant about not wanting to make people play to get the full experience of anyone game so it’s unlikely they’d implement something like DLC where you’d have to buy coins or something.

          • True, but I would agree with libra where if these coins are obtained, maybe in that area where we do Hyper Training for Bottle Caps (another form of currency for SM) maybe we do get these as a way to use those coins. If so I saved up a lot for use with Spot Pass Games, so I walk a lot with my 3DS, so getting them seems like less of a hassle lol

          • Which is good for me as I do jogging now before classes here as I’m 20 pounds over weight (for me at least).
I remember back in High School when HGSS was released and we got the PokeWalker, I used that thing abusively at gym time and even going from class to class. Racked up a lot of EXP for my team with the bonus of getting new areas and Pkm! I miss my Poke Walker, why it had to break T-T

          • I think it’s just money you get from doing the festival battle plu sthe island challenge. Hence the name ‘festival coins’.

    • I mentioned it awhile ago, and someone brought up that in the Pyukumuku quest, we earn pokedollars. So we have both, and that possibly normal items are by dollar, and clothes and hair styles are festival coins.

  47. I think the most interesting thing about Oranguru is it’s new move called instruct. If it was just a move that forces the target to use the move again next turn I’d be less interested, but since the Pokemon uses the move immediately that’s huge. that could mean a Powerful attack could be sent out twice in one turn and completely decimate the opponents lol

  51. Everytime a new move or ability gets released, people freak out about its competitive use. And that’s what I love about this game and some fail to see: this new gen is chock full of competive scene breaking abilities and moves. No one can prepare for everything. Things are about to shake up for serious.

    • I’m thinking it’s more in the realm of crabrawler and tortunator which I think will get prevos if anything. Also, 8 don’t think wishi washi is the totem. I think it’s the pokemon that is angry or something as part of the trial. What would wishiwashi send in? More of itself?

      • Well I guess totem Pokemon don’t have to send in their pre-evolutions. I mean in School form, it’s an intimidating Pokemon and I mean sure it could summon any Water Pokemon in the ocean for help

    • I’m thinking Passimian and Oranguru will both be Totem Pokémon. It’d be cool if they appeared in the games that they weren’t exclusive to as Totem Pokémon; you would just be able to see them, not catch them

      • I was thinking that the two could be another version exclusive totem Pokemon. I was just going off the idea that there are 18 totems/captains all representing the types (as in Gumshoos and A.Raticate are both Normal)

            Sun 1 (Cosimo):
            Litten
            Lycanroc
            Komala
            Oricorio (Sensu Style)
            Jangmo-O
            Crabrawler

            Sun 2 (Aurora):
            Popplio
            Bewear
            Oricorio (Baile Style)
            Lurantis
            Ninetales
            Oranguru

            Moon (Jeff):
            Rowlet
            Raichu
            Drampa
            Mimikyu
            Salandit
            Lycanroc or Mudsdale

I personally want to pass the stats to my favorite pokemon, chatot, so it can be a viable battler for once. It has such a good movepool but horrible stats. I think if Smogon/competitive metagames want to ban this, they should ban it on overused and underused tiers so the lower tiers can still benefit from it. But that’s my take on it.

        • With the exception of gen 1 and 2 when have we ever been able to send Pokemon backwards to a previous gen? Gen 3 and 2 were incompatible altogether, gen 3 to 4 was a one way trip going through that safari zone type of area, gen 4 to 5 was through that dumb mini game, and finally gen 5 to 6 was through through the transporter and bank. In none of those forms of transferring Pokemon from one gen to the next have we been able to send them back to the games they came from. So how is me saying that with the exception of the first two gens we haven’t been able to do it? Sorry not attacking or anything. I’m just confused as to what you’re talking about.

Seeing that the CEO to Pokemon has stated that Game Freak is now working on new Pokemon games for the NX, and that it is also hinted that the NX is indeed a hybrid console between a home console and a handheld console. I presume Nintendo is trying to cut costs after losing a lot of money in recent years. But all in all, we await to what they might bring.

Also, I’m already seeing people jumping to conclusions that the NX is a hybrid due to his statement. That might be the case, but its another form of overanalyzing. All he said was console or habdheld; how does that present anything? I don’t have a problem with the NX being a hybrid, but except from the idea of creating something new; a hybrid device with the rumoured NX features has already been done.

While I do think we’ll see a main series game on it I have to mention that since it was the CEO of TPC rather than game freak saying this, it could very well just be another Pokepark or something. Ishihara over sees everything Pokemon from the company and the series has a lot more game out there than just the main series…..so yeah…..lol again I’m sure we’ll see a main series game at some point tho!! lol

A sheet of 16×16 sprites and a sheet of 32×32 sprites are different from full scale cut in stuff.

And you could always just take sprites from existing games assuming you aren’t being graded on the art and just on the game itself. That’s what I did when I was at college.

      • Aside from them spelling it as ‘sulfur’ instead of sulphur, I’m not a fan of the alchemy overtones. If they were going to use alchemy they could have done a lot better job.

        Reply
        • I mean sulfur is still an accepted way to spell it though, americans change words all the time so we cant really get too nit picky can we? 😛 but like we always knew about the alchemy thing, but how would you do it?

          Reply
          • Not where I’m from. We were explicitly taught that ‘sulphur’ is correct and ‘sulfur’ is wrong.

I don’t mind Rockruff too much (although I should point out that’s not actually one of the alchemy symbols for lead, so this image is pretty bogus), but I would have expected more steel typing or more of a strong/obvious alchemy theme, with actual moves and abilities based on alchemy/science concepts like filtration, electrolysis, squaring the circle etc.

          • cant say I have any objections to your thoughts on the alchemy theme. As for the spelling of Sulphur, or sulfur, you’re not from America as I recalled you saying so that would be why you are taught otherwise, like I said the americans kind of butchered the languages they took their words from and made it their own, like color, its colour, which is one of many examples, I’m not an american either but you have to understand that in the US its pretty much more the norm to spell it “Sulfur”

          • Yeah, if I’d been doing it I would have had a Fire/Ground for sulphur, a Steel type for mercury (with a special ability reflecting its liquid state, but no Water typing), a Rock type for salt (with a special ability, possibly involving water), and a Poison/Steel type lead pokemon.

Doesn’t mean we have to accept it. The US get their way with a lot of things, but I’m not budging on the English language.

          • you don’t have to budge on the way you spell it, but you also cant control how others do, is all I am saying.

Also I want a poison steel type now

          • you know what I mean dear Pharap, come now, you’re better than that. I mean, sulfur at this point is an accepted form of spelling in the US so you can’t tell people not to spell it that way since its now established.

          • Things can always be changed.

When the US was the new world and the pilgrims went over to colonise it, it was spelt sulphur, much like colour had a u.

Plus there’s a difference between the two, the ‘ph’ and ‘f’ make different sounds, they involve moving the mouth in a different way.

Besides, standardisation is a good thing, it brings us SI units, UTC and USB.

        • Finally somebody who know how to spell Sulphur. I was adamant in all my exams to spell it as Sulphur even when the teacher insisted on using ‘sulfur’ when teaching .

          Fight the system.

        • Sometimes I think the fans should band together to make a game similar to pokemon but change the rules and stuff so they can’t be sued for copyright (e.g. don’t call it ‘evolution’).

Then they could make the features they want to see and not worry about copyright and stuff because they wouldn’t be using any pokemon, just their own creations.

          Reply
          • Well, I believe that fans should submit their ideas to Game Freak and they would become real Pokemon in the next Generation. Take yours truly for example. I wish to have a cute Grass starter that looks like an anthropomorphic watermelon, named Melum. (Meruika in Japan; the words melon, “maru,” meaning round, and “suika,” meaning watermelon).

          • Gamefreak don’t accept fan submitted stuff.

Hence why making a fan game that cuts all ties to pokemon would work better.

          • People have tried many times, they’ve always refused fan submissions. It makes sense, accepting fan submissions would undermind their well paid designers.

          • No it’s not.
Entrepreneurship is “the process of designing, launching and running a new business”.
What you’re suggesting is submitting a character design to an existing company, which is a completely different thing.

And here’s my evidence for nintendo refusing to use fan submissions: http://www.nintendo.com/corp/faq.jsp#idea

          • Too late…I already read it on support.pokemoncenter.com. I feel like a jerk for suggesting that. But still, I thought my ideas would be cool. I am sorry. I guess I don’t deserve the rights of a Pokemon fan… *tear stream*

          • I’m upset that the question about pokemon go has overtaken the fan submission one.

The rights of a pokemon fan don’t include Nintendo accepting fans’ pokemon designs. They never have done. By all means you can design pokemon, just don’t expect Nintendo to accept them 😛

Like I said, if fans got together to make a fan game, kept 80% of the mechanics, introduced new ones and completely distanced it from pokemon, they could have their cake and eat it too.

          • The issue about Pokemon GO? So that’s why you have been overcritical. I understand your point about Pokemon, but creating video games is not about “voodoo” and crud. Try to use a more understandable choice of words.

          • I’m only upset with it because it means there are more people who don’t know Nintendo has almost nothing to do with Pokemon Go than there are people wondering where to submit fan designs to Nintendo.

Octrees and binary space partition always seemed like voodoo to me.

          • Ok. I read the link as you requested and I completely understand your concern. I just thought that Nintendo had the staff to accept ideas. But at least they have reasons in which I can accept.

  86. I have the feeling that Passimian (Nagetsukesaru – ナゲツケサル) and Oranguru (Yareyuutan – ヤレユータン) are evolved Pokemon and their pre-evolved forms will be revealed, just like they did it in Black & White (with Gothitelle and Reunicus).

          • yeah but from what I have seen you seem to believe whatever you want, no problem with that I suppose, but considering the amount of detail put into the games, I can almost guarantee you that it was a conscious decision

          • Then where did the trial captains come from?
If they were doing gyms, the gyms would have been one of the first things to be added.
And they’re not hard to add either, they’re just buildings with scripted trainers.

  87. Well at least we didn’t get any more on them Ultra Beasts. Personally I think whatever secrets they have for them should be left for the actual games.

Right now we just need info on Pokemon to keep us speculating.

Each cry would need data for probably at least 2 channels of sound for between 0.181 (Pidgey) and 2.238 (Jynx) seconds stored in compressed Differential Pulse Code Modulation format. That’s going to take up a sizeable chunk of the cartridge, no matter how good their compression algorithm is.

If it weren’t for the memory constraints then yes they could do it, but there are memory constraints and something else would have to suffer, most likely the graphics or the music.

This is why a lot of game developers prefer PC, you can usually expect ~8GB of RAM and at least a few GB of non-volatile storage.

  91. I really like Passimian and Oranguru, definitely will try using both of them at some point. Couple of things on their designs, I’m not overly fond of Passimians cap, I think the bit at the front looks odd, maybe if it had visible ears it would offset this a bit. I think Oranguru should just have lighter purple running through the darker purple fur, instead of the light orange and blue, or perhaps just one or the other. These are fairly minor issues I know. I am not entirely sure I even like the Purple at all actually. Passimians ability is interesting, though I’m not overly fond of abilities that are only usable in double/triple battles. Oranguru’s Attack seems likely it could be very useful, as long as it and it’s battle partner survive long enough to use it. Both seem like they could have other members of their evolutionary lines (most likely pre-evos) but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are standalone. So far Passimian is the Fighting type I will be using, unless a better one comes along.
I think Lycanroc is a good name, very fitting, though I would kind of prefer if it ended in a K, with or without the C before it and I’m not really sure why. I am slightly disappointed that Midnight’s pure Rock too, though only really because I thought it would either gain another type or change type entirely. I would have preferred Accelerock to be more widely available, unless it just means Midnight can’t learn it but other Rock types may be able to. I will still definitely be using Lycanroc, I hope it’s fast and strong and not with paper thin Defences or HP.

What gives? I have Pokemon X Version (only for Yveltal), but I do not see much reason to playing it. The music for wild and gym leader battles rather suck, and there aren’t much new Pokemon. But a Pokemon game with out gym battles? That’s even worse!

  93. So I’ve been looking at revealed and predicted pokémon numbers, and we’re getting up to quite dangerous pre-release amounts.

So far 45 new pokémon have been revealed, along with 10 Alola forms and 3 Ultra Beasts, whatever the hell those are.
Pre XY-release, 42 pokémon (42/72, that is) have been revealed, along with 13 mega evolutions (13/30).
SM will doubtless have more new pokémon than XY, but I’m not betting on more than 100 honestly, for fear of being disappointed.
So if we take a relatively conservative benchmark of 90 pokémon in total, half have been revealed, and we’ve still got a little less than two months worth of reveals to go. They seem to have thankfully slowed down a bit with pokémon reveals in favour of features, which is great, but over half is still too much for my tastes, I want to legitimately have stuff to discover, and if it’s only 20 pokémon I’m not sure it will be worth going out of my way not to be spoiled.

And that’s not even taking into account pokémon we know will exist. If we add in 2 more stages for the starter and pikipek lines, 3 more Tapus, Marshadow, 4 fossils, two other mythical pokémon, (arguably those last two or three we have no info on, but they’re still something predictable), and if we get 2 stage lines for (running on my own predictions) Komala, Drampa, Bruxish, Bounsweet, Minior, Pyukumuku, Morelull, Turtonator, Crabrawler, Passimian and Oranguru, and maybe the Dolphin and Snowmen pokémon, and 3 stage lines for (again, purely my own predictions, and in any case they can be stand-ins because we’re gonna get at least some three stage lines) Salandit, Wimpod and Jangmo-o; all that’s 39 more predictable pokémon, bringing us to an inferred total of 84. That leaves us with only a few (maybe 6-16) completely unexpected pokémon left, and we’ll definitely get to know a few before release. That’s not much :/ . And and at least 1-2 of those are probably toucans haha.
Alola forms wise we’ll get at least 20-30 I’d imagine, and we already know that Persian is doubtless happening, but that’s about it.

    • I think you’re being generous with salandit and you made everybody Pokémon part of an evolutionary line. I’m thinking the new monkeys, drampa, crabawler, monior and turtonator are all stand alones. But then again we won’t know for two more months and that’s half the fun 🙂

      Reply
      • I don’t think I’m being too generous with evolutions at all really , gen 6 only 4 non-legendary standalones, though tbf gen 5 had 14 but that had 156 pokémon to work with, so I guess we can expect 6-10 of them, and closer to 6 because I’d expect them to scale down the percentage of them if the number of new pokémon isn’t that high.
I didn’t give Togedemaru, Mimikyu, Comfey, Oricorio, Wishiwashi, or Type: Null (assuming it’s not legendary) any evos as I feel those are very probably standalone, and that’s already 5 or 6 standalones. I’m definitely counting all pokémon I think could evolve in here, so in that sense I’m being generous, but I do feel all of these could easily be part of evolution lines, and I’d be surprised for many if they weren’t.

I’m exepcting prevos for the monkeys (cute baby orang utan and small fruit-throwing lemur), for turtonator ( as small fiery terrapin) and crabrawler (some sort of cute small crab), and for drampa, but all five of these could work as standalones (though I’d be dissapointed), and I’m very highly expecting a Minior evo. Seriously, why the hell would they call it Minior if it doesn’t evolve into Mighteor???

But yeah, Salandit I’ve nothing to back with, I’m just feeling it might end in a big komodo dragon so I’m betting it’s a three-part line.

  94. You know Lycanroc (Midday) is now in my top 5 favourite Pokemon. Tied in third place with Tyranitar. Especially after reading its description, it’s perfect partner Pokemon material. I seriously love it.

My team for Pokemon Sun now is:

    Rowlet
    Lycanroc
    Salandit

Maybe Crabrawler or Passimian, undecided at the moment.

Not the most accurate description but it seems it sounds like it in the long run

          • It isn’t that bad if you just stay on the right blogs and tags. I haven’t once encountered any insane men hating “feminists” on my 6(?) months on there

          • Feminism isn’t bad on its own, but 3rd wave feminism irks me alot. A lot of it rides off of the wage gap (which isn’t entirely real), issues not pertaining to feminism such as LGBTQ rights (gay marriage legalized, some go “we did it feminists”) and in extreme cases, blind hate against men.

          • sorry, but we are far from having equality, I don’t think we will ever see true equality in our lifetimes though

          • I wish feminism would focus more on gender roles and stuff like that. Like, I love my girly pretty stuff but not every girl is like that. Girls should be encouraged to play with monster trucks and army men if they want and boys could be encouraged to play with dolls and make up if they want.

And even in adult stuff. Alot of women can get away with stuff men cant. Men are more likely to be ignored if raped by a woman, men are often expected to hide their emotions and be all big and tough and just alot of double standards like that is what I wish they would work to improve.

          • I started disagreeing at the begining (I’ve known girls who did play with that sort of stuff and turned out pretty much the same as all the girls who didn’t). But then you brought up some of the inequalities men face that people like to forget about.

If I ever catch anyone telling me to “man up” I swear I will punch them.

          • I wouldn’t say we’re completely equal, but I think there are a lot of other places that are less equal that are more deserving on the campaign.
Look at what Malala did for the girls who weren’t allowed to attend school. (I used to like her until Hermoine Grainger convinced her to label herself a ‘feminist’)

          • I dislike tumblr for more than just that.
They just cemented my dislike of it.
Before them it was a blackhole, now it’s a blackhole in the middle of a nuclear war.

  98. If we were to count every Evolution Family as 1 Pokemon, how many Pokemon would that actually make?
Between 1-6 of course, unfair to count Gen 7 yet
It would probably take ages to count so I can’t be bothered someone good with maths do it

  99. Wow! Just saw the information, here are all my thoughts:
    ————————————-
The new pokemon are cool I guess? I don’t hate them like Bewear, but I likely won’t be using them anytime soon. Also, I know that the normal type is a strength instead of a weakness here, but why are they just kinda slapping it onto alot of pokemon that don’t really need it? It seems unnecessary. I feel like ther really missed the mark with Lycanroc’s name. What? Lycanroc? Why isn’t it Lycanthroc? That sounds infinitely better in my opinion. The eevee z move looks cool, but I feel like only fully evolved pokemon should get Z moves. The new amie looks great though! I love how it actually uses location background this time, and Rowlet looks adorable! :O I’m glad we got a look at customization, that’s great. Also having the ability to dye clothing will be so cool! It’ll open up many more possibilites than XY had. Also I like the festival coins thing, I hope they’re easy to get. It was so annoying spending my life savings just to get one shirt in XY. Anyway, we have to wait two weeks for new info. 🙁 I know it’s not that long, but they’ve been spoiling us so much recently, this’ll feel like a huge drought.

      – Lycanroc’s name. WHY ISN’T IT LYCANTHROC?

      Reply
        • Lycanroc doesn’t roll of the tongue. Plus the pun is off of Lycanthrope. It even has an “r” after the “th” for the “roc” to use, yet it is called Lycanroc. It seems like bad planning to me.

          Reply
          • “Lycan” means wolf (from the greek lykos).
They probably cut out the ‘anthros’ aspect on purpose to try to stop the furries to emphasise it’s still just a pokemon.

          • Oh I fully understood the pun, just sounded that way to me. Now I keep calling it Lycanthroc in my mind, I feel Lycanthrok looks better though.

      • -Z-Moves are awesome. Funny. Fun. Adds a lot to the meta.
-I’m neutral towards him. But my inner contrarian makes me like him due to the hate.
        -That seems… Like a non-issue.

Honestly I have absolutely no issue with blindly loving everything GameFreak adds to Pokémon. (Other than contests/musicals. Never got into those.) This isn’t politics. Legitimate world problems do not arise due to blindly supporting something. So I take the opinion of why bother hating something, or parts of something, that I love? I’d rather just enjoy it. So I do. So I will. Everyone else can get upset over this feature or that, I’ll be over here having a god damn blast.

If you dont know who Skuld and Ephemer are: they are Keyblade wielders in UX with the sole goal to gather Lux (bit like the player) but they were also picked by Ava (one of the Foretellers) to join a small group of Keyblade wielders who would receive the ability to live past the Keyblade War and keep the legacy of the Keyblade alive. These individuals are called Dandelions.

    • Honestly, in order to fully appreciate Z Moves, you’d need to have an open mind. Its a unique concept, along with the entire game’s brilliant “tradition changing” style. I truly hope they are not an over powered mess, but rather a game balancing technique, if that makes sense xp

      Reply
          • I think people are afraid of change. Take Paper Mario Sticker Star as an example. The reviews were trash of it simply because it strayed away from the style of the previous games. However, if you were to take it as a stand alone game, its comically unique. Likewise, Sun and Moon are straying away from the norm, which is both praise worthy and scorn worthy (depending on who you talk to.)

          • I think Sticker Star is a whole different story. It basically took out what everyone loved from the series and had huge design flaws when it comes to stickers. Sun and Moon still has everything people love about Pokémon

          • Personally, I didn’t like Sticker Star. I’ve been a sucker for the original Paper Mario and TTYD, but always look at the situation from a different angle. Sun and Moon has the same pokemon we know and love, but with drastic differences. As of now, we have enhanced character customization, no gyms, “no Elite 4”, and no HMs, at least this is speculation. Its no longer “Oh, I need to grind for someones gym.” Its a huge difference from the 6 generations before, and the speculation and critism speaks for itself

While I am in no way stating that you are wrong, or I’m right, but I’d rather look at things from the other way around, if that makes sense.

      • What bothers me is that they seem to mostly be attacking moves. If I was in charge, no z move would directly attack, they’d all have stat or status things along with something unique. That way there’d be more strategy.

        Reply
        • Well we saw Eevee use a status Z-move, so there are bound to be more. They likely aren’t showing many status moves because they’re trying to wow us with these trailers, and attacks are the most eye-catching way to do that.

          Reply
        • Considering Eevee’s Z Move is the mother/father of stat increases (Baring Tail Glow/Cotton Guard), plus it has access to Baton Pass, I don’t think I’d like simply status Z Moves. However, if they factor as normal moves, as in immunities and resistances are factored in, it would be an interesting concept. Plus, considering how some pokemon can be run both physical and special, it will be interesting to see how Z Moves work.

          Reply
          • Its like how some people run Smeargle. Spore/Dark Void, Lock On, Sheer Cold, Spiky Shield. Its stupid and its a part of the game, but there are always counters to it. Remember how broken Talonflame was, and is partially is? OHKO many things with a plus 2 brave bird or flare blitz? Counters are made for it. If Z Moves are truly like Nukes, then it causes creativity to prosper in the players mind, cuz they think that “Oh Snap, he has a Snorlax with P.P. I need to keep my “Insert Ghost Type” alive.” That is, if they obey normal rules usage.

            If not, then I’m a moron >.<

          • Maybe from how you’re viewing it, but the strategy comes into play when figuring when to use them. Say you’re being swept by a seemingly unstoppable Mega, but your Z-move knocks it out and saves you. I think they’ll do more good than harm.

    • I remember back in the pre-XY days people were terrified that megas would ruin the games, and they swore they’d never use them, but look where we are now. Different concept, same old arguments.

      Reply
      • I definitely learned my lesson from that, as I was one of those people. Now I know better than to face change like that and wait to see what will truly happen

Jokes aside, M Lopunny is a unique Mega, one I would’ve never expected alongside Beedrill.

  113. So here’s my potential team:
Litten (hoping it gains dark type)
    Grubbin
    Stufful
a water type(maybe Wishiwashi or the eventual dolphin) (hoping for an Alolan form water Pokemon tho lol)
    Sandygast

I’ve checked it out and if everything goes according to plan all I’d have left is something to counter dragon and fairy types. so maybe I’ll add a fairy type or something and make up the steel/poison attack on one of the others. either way this potential team almost has all the types covered. at least if Litten really does evolve into a Fire/Dark type lol

    Reply
    • Very Interesting and diverse team! I wonder if the dolphin will be a legend or not. Personally, while I hope it is, I hope you get it after Elite 4 b/c I don’t like using Legends during the normal playthrough. Hence why I played ORAS on my own rather than watch someone else play it, since watching people use P Groudon/Kyogre was annoying. Hopefully Litten is Fire/Dark and not Fire/Fighting. Lord knows we have way too many of those.

      Reply
        • What I meant is that I hope the Dolphin is a legendary that you can get post E4. Legendary Pokemon that are caught during the playthrough really don’t help with the experience because they usually run right through everything. Sorry if that was unclear ^^;

          Reply
          • Same. Wishiwashi appeals to me, but the ability has a defeatist feel to it. Not sure if that’s just me. Bruxish is good for its ability and design, but otherwise its eh.

          • i like wishiwashi as well but the ability definitely forces me to raise a few eyebrows. it seems like it would be pretty easy to KO, but i must see what its stats look like first

      • Yeah that’s the one thing. If the dolphin ends up being a legend of some sort then that’s out the window. I really want an Alolan form water Pokemon. I want to get an Alolan form on the team, but with the exception of Marowak I’m not sure about the rest and I have fire/ghost already covered. I actually just thought that my answer to the last team member to take care of dragons and fairy could potentially be Alolan Sandshrew/Sandslash, but I’m still not sure lol

        Reply
        • Thats a solid choice, but that would give you a nasty fighting weakness as well as a fire weakness, in Bewear (Fluffy) and A Sandslash. Personally, a steel type is what you need. Its defenses can take hits pretty well and its offensively pretty good. As to where they are located, well… That’s an adventure in the making.

          Reply
          • Whelp, forgot about that XP
            However, that fire/fighting weakness is nasty. The only good steal type for your team would be, imo, steel/psychic or steel/fairy. I’m not a genius, but I hope this helps ^^;

          • O I didn’t even notice it had two x4’s. No thanks, not ever using that thing. Too slow to even out-speed stuff that might kill it. Awful typing. Just. Bad.

          • Yeah, that’s one reason I’m not feeling them Plus the website says its slower than the normal version, so that a no in my book.

          • Agreed, Pure steal tho. Ice is a bad defensive typing wheras Steel is great. However offensively, its reversed. I find it unusual how two Pokemon evolutionary lines got ice type alolan forms: Ninetales and Sandslash.

Is there a Black 2/White 2 Vibe with the frozen region?

          • True, but all Pokemon have their weaknesses. When I build I do think about overall weakness of my team, but in the end I have to remind myself that I wouldn’t necessarily send out a Pokemon into battle that I know they’ll be at a disadvantage in. at this point things aren’t set in stone and again I’m still looking for that perfect Pokemon that fits the overall feel of the team lol

          • Very true. Whenever I build teams, I try to pair up pokemon that cover each other. But in the end of the day, you can’t cover everything. But, you do you man. Hopefully a good water type will come out

          • Yeah. Plus if worst comes to worst you can always cover a type by throwing a move onto a Pokemon that doesn’t share said type. lol

    • Split forms seems likely, but exclusive forms seems a bit to big of a risk for them to take. Rockruff is a fun pokemon, but nothing about it seems to suggest it’ll be competitively viable. Starters can be, and locking the objectively best form to one version seems like a bad idea, especially how their clearly stepping up their love for VGC.

      Reply
    • If that happens then I’ll be very surprised. When the thought was just forms based on day/night that was one thing as you could get both in one game, but if said forms are version exclusive I’m not too sure. Would they go as far as to make the one set of Pokemon that are supposed to be the most accessible and easy to train THAT exclusive?

    • Fossil wise this is an odd-numbered gen, so if we follow previous patterns we’re not getting mainstream dinosaurs like gens 4 and 6, but rather more offbeat stuff you’d probably only know if you were a bit into palaeontology (which is awesome) like Armaldo or Archaeops.
I’d really love it if we got some Cenozoic fossils for once, as that’s never been done before (something like sabertooths, terror birds, cavemen, etc), but I’m gonna bet game freak stick to stuff from the Palaeozoic or stuff from the Mesozoic that aren’t dinosaurs. My money would be on a set of palaeozoic fossils such as an early tetrapod line and an armoured fish line.

In any case as a massive palaeontology nerd I’m really looking forward to these as they’re usually one of the highlights of the generation, and one of the fossils is pretty much guaranteed a spot on my team.
I’m pretty expectant we’ll get them on the fourth too.

  115. We’ve been fed a plethora of news and information on Sun and Moon. What are you most hyped about so far, and what expectations do you have for Sun and Moon that you secretly want back?
Personally, I want Amity Square from D/P/Pl. While walking with the Pokemon at all times isn’t a reality, maybe Amity Square can revitalize it using certain Pokemon. As for the hype, I’m hyped for Character customization and Battle Royal mode. Its amazing what the possibilities can flourish from these additions. I didn’t get to own X or Y, but now with revamped Character customization, I’m looking forward to it!

      • Good choice! Personally, I wonder if HMs are gone for Pokeride bc Wishiwashi used Surf, so did they incorporate it into the level up moveset of the pokemon or did they make it a TM

        Reply
          • Probably. But that brings up the question of if the old HMs will change types, as in a rock type strength, and if the number of TMs will increase and to what will it increase to.

          • I doubt it. I could actually see maybe just surf/waterfall/fly being TM’s and the rest as move tutors or something. That way they don’t have to replace many tm’s

    • The story has me most hyped. For once we don’t have a one dimensional plot line where everything was extremely predictable. Or the graphics, those cutscenes will be beautiful. And I not-so-secretly want the return of the battle frontier.

      • Story. The bread and butter of the game. If its as good as the hype train makes it, we’re in for a great ride!. I just hope it doesn’t end up like the B and W manga. ;-;

The survey is available on the Forums. (Also, remember that you’ll be pretty small so don’t get your hopes up for too many details)

    • Look at it from another angle. We’ve gotten so much already that they simply haven’t had a good point to talk about megas without them disappearing into the mix of news. SO likely they’ll be introduced towards the end of the news cycle.

        • I don’t know. Serebii Joe confirmed weeks ago that new Mega pokemon merchandise was coming early 2017. Seems kind of strange that you would wait until after a game launches to release new mega pokemon stuff, given it sells well. that is, unless your releasing new mega pokemon and you want to know which ones to market. That’s my thought process at least.

          Reply
          • the only problem with new megas is that it will basically go head to head with z-moves. it looks like pokemon is gonna push z-moves more. if they keep it a in-game discovery then yea but if its in a trailer its gonna be butting heads with z-moves

          • ehh, not necessarily. Z-moves can be used by any pokemon, with a handful of unique ones. Megas are only for specific pokemon. So you could have your mega Flygon(because everyone want it) without really taking the spotlight away from your pancake making snorlax. At least that’s my opinion. But who knows. Really it seems people aren’t as hyped around Z-moves given anyone can really use them. megas however are what help you build up your team as you usually build around them.

    • They might still be there, they’ve probably just given up on adding new ones in favour of focusing on Z moves.

To be honest I’d be fine if they didn’t come back though, I’ve never liked the idea of a temporary evolution, it’s so Digimon-like 😛

      • agreed. i wouldve appreciated the mega evolution macanic way more if the ability was only granted to fully evolved pokemon. how does a pokemon that never evolved before, MEGA evolve? its like dude you didnt even regular evolve yet. not to mention, so many mega evo designs would have been PERFECT permanent evolutions – looking at you Mawhile and Herracross. and now that theyve seemingly abandoned the entire gimmick, it just seems so pointless. now a good handful of pokes will never recieve real evolutions.

    • maybe just the Johto starters and since its only three megas well its really not worth exposing now. lets hope for the week or two before the release.

      • They already did a soft reboot with gen 5, so a complete reboot is literally very much possible and they’ve done it with Mario and Zelda as well.

          • Core gameplay hasn’t changed in 20 years, and the biggest complaint Pokemon has is that every game is the same. Also lets not forget that Pokemon is losing territory to Yokai, in Japan, where Pokemon is still bigger than religion.

          • Well Yokai Watch is pretty cool. But they won’t completely reboot Pokemon that’s just mad.
In fact they’re more likely to mix it up which, looking at Sun and Moon, they are. At this point it’s ridiculous to think they’d completely Reboot Pokemon. How would they even do it? Plus I’m am pretty sure Fan reaction would not be good at all. It just wouldn’t work to do a complete reboot, and you’re kidding yourself if you think so.

          • Idk how a reboot would even work with pokemon? A reboot is like changing everything and starting fresh with the same concept characters etc, would that mean they would redesign pokemon? remove pokemon? no because they would never do that. I agree with you 100%

          • A reboot would be the same games, but set in a different timeline with a more mature storyline and darker characters. Why do you think Origins was such a hit?

          • ok u explained it ALOT better. but hm, would pokemon really go to a more darker storyline? these are kid games after all.

          • Pokemon already went much darker since gen 4, so its a step in the right direction. Because even though the target audience for the games and anime are kids, the majority of people in 2016 who still watch and play it are young adults aged 16 to 22.

          • that is true, but also remember gen 4 and gen 5 story lines were dark but it was more implied/ and if you noticed, i like what they are doing now where its like you have to notice its not like thrown into your face. who knows sun and moon could easily be the darkest story

          • still if your actually old enough to notice it is, pokemon is targeted around kids but they include these things for the much older audience members to keep interest.

          • And saying a reboot wouldn’t work is exactly what Zelda fans said and did you see the incredible positive reception Breath of the Wild has gotten?

  118. Snorlax’s exclusive Z-Move: Pulverizing Pancake!
Previously, Snorlax has always been portrayed as just sleeping all the time. For the first time, in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, it will open up its hidden potential and become able to use the powerful Z-Move Pulverizing Pancake!

By pouring Z-Power into a Snorlax that is holding Snorlium Z, Giga Impact transforms—enabling Snorlax’s Z-Move to be used. Experience its overwhelming strength in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon!

    so anybody catch this?
which could mean signature Z-moves require a mandatory move to enable it

      • That’s very true but I’m just use to having my team decided by now…
        1. Litten
        2.Pikipek
        3.Rockruff/Passimian
        4.Vikavolt
        5.Jangmo-o
        6.Wishiwashi

seems like the team I’m going with so far

    • Yeah but it is fun to create teams, even if they change all the time when new info/Pokemon come out. So far I am getting three versions (2 Sun and 1 Moon) and if Popplio or Rowlet have bad evolutions I’ll cancel one of the Sun’s and just have two. My teams so far are:

      Sun 1 (Cosimo):
      Litten
      Lycanroc (Midday Form, clealry)
      Komala
      Oricorio (Sensu Style)
      Jangmo-o
      Crabrawler

      Sun 2 (Aurora):
      Popplio
      Ninetales (Alola Form)
      Oricorio (Baile Style)
      Bewear
      Lurantis
      Oranguru

      Moon (Jeff):
      Rowlet
      Salandit
      Drampa
      Raichu (Alola Form)
      Palossand (or Mimikyu, haven’t decided….)
      Lycanroc (MIdnight Form)

      • I might end up with a rotating team, I did that in White and somewhat in X. I would love to have an Alolan variant on my team but haven’t really seen one that fits yet…maybe the Palm Tree
