8/12 New Pokémon Sun & Moon Trailers

The trailer for Pokémon Sun & Moon has been released early (which made me pause Nathan for You) and contains information we saw from the leaks earlier today! Here’s a recap:

  • Team Skull is revealed along with its leader Guzma and Admin Plumeria
  • New Pokémon Wishiwashi and Pyukumuku are shown in battle, both with interesting animations (Innards Out, which does damage based on Pyukumuku’s health before the final blow that KOs it!)
  • The trailer reveals one brand-new Pokémon Morelull
  • We finally see Alolan Meowth, Raichu & Marowak in action. It is heavily implied Pikachu & Cubone do not have Alola forms

  1. “Morelull are nocturnal Pokémon that walk around at night on their
leg-like roots. They move because staying in one spot and sucking all
the nutrients from the soil would cause surrounding plants to wither.
Morelull uses its leg-like roots to make contact with its fellows and
    communicate with them.”

    FINALLY
    A mushroom pokemon done right.

I’m just about ready to become a full time grass type trainer with all the great grass types this gen 😀

  2. So far my team is composed of
Litten (please let the leak be true, I want a fire/dark wrestler cat, and if it isn’t Litten better look as powerful)
Bewear- I shall name him Bow
alolan Raichu- I’m naming her Wattson
    Oricorio- I’m naming Sensu Haiku
Sandcastle- I shall name him Guardian
    that’s my team thus far

    Reply
    • The wrestler cat looks weak.
I think you got your Bewear and Raichu genders mixed up – Bow is a feminine name and Wattson is a male name
‘Haiku’ and ‘Guardian’ would be reasonable.

And now for a real Haiku:
      A bird in the sky
      Oricorio flies by
      How graceful it is

      Reply
      • Guess it’s personal preference. I didn’t get the gender mixed up, I have a female friend who’s last name is Watson and her favorite pokemon is Raichu. I want to put a bowtie on Bewear so maybe I’ll name him Bowtie instead. And also, Such beautiful poetry *snaps fingers*

        • Surnames shouldn’t be used as first names/mononyms, that’s not how they work.
Besides which, most people are going to think it’s a reference to the Hoenn gym leader, Wattson.

(Also be careful people don’t read into you giving your pokemon the name of a person you know as an indication that you like said person more than you’re admitting, because that would be really cliché.)

Bowtie is better, much more gentlemanly.

          • Fritz/Fritzy is fine.

Personally I liked when Ritchie called his Pikachu ‘Sparky’ in the anime.
Then there was ‘Puka’ from “The Pi-Kahuna”.

          • I was thinking of Puka but then I thought that a lot of people are going to name their surfer Pikachus Puka. I was also thinking of Kahula but then I though how dumb that would be for an electric/psychic type. Sparky is a cute name though :D. thanks for the name help

          • I’m just giving my opinion.
            Are opinions banned now?

Naomi is perfectly free to say “I disagree and like what I’ve got already” – humans have free will last time I checked.

          • no giving your opinion is just fine, as long as you make sure others understand its an opinion, instead you made it sound like a fact with saying how things are wrong and how they should be corrected, this poor kid probably is now worried that they are going to get picked on for their naming choices or something when in reality you seem to be the only one who cares

          • Exactly. And this part: “Also be careful people don’t read into you giving your pokemon the name of a person you know as an indication that you like said person more than you’re admitting, because that would be really cliché. Ultimately though I’d just think naming apokemon after a real person is a bit odd. Especially when you have to pet them in pokemon amie.”

            https://media.giphy.com/media/peXVBGmimeEda/giphy-facebook_s.jpg

          • Don’t listen to Pharap. It’s your game and your Pokémon. You’re free to name them whatever the hell you want! Caught a Salandit and wanna name it Sammy? Go right the hell on and name it Sammy. Caught a Miltank and wanna name her Teets?
Go right the hell on and name her Teets!

Point is, don’t let someone tell you what the proper etiquette to naming a Pokémon is because there isn’t any. Wattson is a wonderful name for a Raichu, whether it’s male or female, and I think the name Bow suits a Bewear perfectly.

          • I’m allowed to give an opinion.
Naomi’s free to ignore my opinion.

All I’m saying is that it’ll save having to explain 100 times over why the male Beware is called “Bow” and the female Raichu appears to be named after a male gym leader.

          • You’re not giving an opinion. That all changes when you tell someone they should or shouldn’t do something, which is exactly what you’ve done.

An opinion: The name Fritzy would be a better name than Wattson.
You: You shouldn’t name your female Raichu Wattson as it’s a boy’s name. Surnames shouldn’t be used as nicknames. Name it something else.

See the difference? Don’t go telling someone what to do when trying to give an opinion because it doesn’t remain an opinion anymore. You’re projecting a preference.

      • Bow isn’t feminine.

Have you not ever heard of the name Beau?
The name Beau is a French baby name.
In French the meaning of the name Beau is handsome.

        Reply
          • It’s the same shit. Bow isn’t even uncommonly used as a girl’s name. It’s rarely used. If anything, it’s unisex, but more often used as a name for males.

          • agreed, tbh any name can be unisex if you’re a boy and your parents name you like ashley and it becomes popular amoung boys then that name because unisex (ashley is actually a really popular boys name where I live)

          • I never said anything about Ashley, of course Ashley is unisex. The first Ashley I met was male. The only female Ashleys I’ve seen are fictional, but that counts.

          • I was making a point but clearly it went flying over your head, I hope you at least waved at it as it passed by.

          • yeah dude it is, you can change the name to any name you want and my point still stands, change it to Cassandra for all I care, it doesn’t invalidate my point… try again…

          • Name a relatively famous male and female with the name ‘Bow’ and I’ll believe you.
So far all I’ve found is forums saying “Bo or Beau but not Bow, you spell it Bow the boy will be totally harrassed”

          • It’s a Pokémon, for Arceus’ sake! Let alone, it’s a fictional character in a video game about raising imaginary monsters as companions. Everyone is allowed to name their Pokémon just about whatever they want as long as it’s not offensive. The fact still remains: Do not impose onto someone your own personal preference. An opinion, however, is just fine. After all, we’ve all got one.

    • My names for my team are

Popplio- Goofball cause he looks so goofy and I love it!

Gumshoos- Crunchy for his love of food!

Komala- Sleepy for his sleepy nature

Bounsweet- Sweetipie for her Sweetness and Cuteness

Minior- Astro for it’s astronomical likeness

Mimikyu- Mimi for her mimicking of Pikachu

  3. Is this new raichu affected by ground moves? It doesn’t touch the floor at all. And the black ugly little thing has a really interesting and almost unfair ability; really like it.

  4. I don’t think team skull is the main antagonist. They are kind of a joke with all the power rangers moves. There’s probably something/someone else later in the game that’s gonna be the real threat.

  5. You know what? Eff it…I’m done trying to scientifically explain the Alolan variants. They are what they are. Genes expressing and repressing. Maybe some weird crossbreed in event happened that resulted in a new functional protein to allow the type changes in raichu, exegutor (spelling), and marowak. Whatever lol. It’s almost as if the pokemon can be part human…nah haha

      • It’s just a guess. But it seems likely that that would be the case, with both being the NX is a duel console, and it has been 10 years since Gen 4

        Reply
        • They said with the NX
within 6 months of its release which means and comes in February so next August we should expect something! Say Remakes for DP?!

          Reply
          • for all we know, behind closed door, GF had been working on the remake for months, and is doing so right now. All they need to do to make it official is to reveal it.

          • It would make sense cause of how if Chinese leaks do come true Cynthia will appear and probably hint towards Sinnoh coming back yay Turtwigs are back!

        • I’ll say it again. Changing consoles mid-gen is not likely. They never did that even when they had the chance to do so with Black 2 and White 2. Why would they do it now?

          Reply
          • if they release the remake of Diamond and Pearl on the 3ds, then that would be lazy, because you can play the DS game of Diamond, Pearl and Platinum on the 3DS. It’ll end up being like Twilight Princess again.

          • They have been unpredictable before so who knows and Gen.1 was split Red/Blue game boy Yellow Gameboy color

          • Also, need I remind that Pokemon Gold and Silver were of Game Boy, whilst Crystal is Game Boy Color

  6. The ability schooling probably isn’t gonna be so cool in the anime. I think it will only kick in near the ocean, rivers and stuff like that. Very unlikely that a lot of pokemon will materialize out of nowhere inside buildings.

      • That makes me think… I wonder if we can ball swap Pokemon in this gen?

I mean if we accidentally lost our special ball due to a mistake in breeding, like Ditto+Male… I would hope it can be fixed later…

  8. I’m in love with Team Skull. The absolutely look amazing. Just their movements and all make them see like a fun team. Their leader Guzma actually failed the Island Challange and continues to ruin various sites. Also, it’s neat seeing trainers us varying PokeBalls. Also, I’m just loving Alolan Raichu and Marowak! Also, what is this little bracelet thing on the Trainer’s bag. The male trainer also had one. It represents the colours of each main island. So, I heavily assume that the islands are Melemele, Akala, Ula Ula, and Poni. We were right all along! rf.

  10. Now I’m stuck between who should I put on the team: Alolan Raichu or Vikavolt? Vikavolt looks very cool, while Raichu rides a surfboard. I can’t decide, who do you think would be better?

    Reply
    • Vikavolt: 2 weaknesses, 4 resistances, 1 immunity

      Raichu: 4 weaknesses, 5 resistances

Vikavolt seems more viable unless you’re willing to run the speed boosting electric terrain every battle.

      Reply
      • You still have to remember the type combos. Weakness don’t matter as long as you have ways to counter them. I’d say it’s too early to know. Yet, I’d go for Alolan Raichu purely on design.

        Reply
      • In-game it isn’t going to matter much so use what you prefer.

But competitive, Alola Raichu is gonna be a beast in doubles or triples. I mean there’s already a decent doubles combo for it: a team up with Tapu Koko. Raichu does have Fake Out so it’s not like you will die if if they start with a Pokemon that has Earthquake.

        Reply
        • True. I’m just going with statistics and only thinking of an ‘up to the champion’ run.
Statistically Vikavolt has better odds and Raichu’s ability takes a bit of time to start.

I dunno how other people do things, but for gym battles I don’t bother wasting time with stats and tricky moves, I just spam powerful moves until the other pokemon faint 😛 Works 9 times out of 10 (or should that be 7 times out of 8?)

      • Erm… actually the British isles are a group of islands, they don’t count as part of the continent of Europe, they’re their own entity.

        Reply
          • Well as of July 23rd, the the UK voted to leave the European Union however the United Kingdom is still a sovereign state in Europe

          • These business people and rich bureaucrats want to stay part of a USE, when their trade and regulations are put heavily on all of us. Hating us when they only need us for their money bin. Why can’t they see that our country can do better than Europe by trading with the rest of the world.

          • Not going to say I disagree or agree, but if we start getting political things might get ugly.

There’s still a lot of hatred from both sides for each other 😛

(And yes I did vote, and did have an opinion, I just want to keep things civil)

          • It’s more a matter of geography than politics. We are an island, ergo we are not part of the european continent.

Thank you for remembering we’re still technically in the EU though, despite all the ministers shutting our PM out of proceedings.

          • yep my bad. the Asian continent consists of of course mainland Asia and every other nearby countries like the Philippines (where i live lol), Japan, Indonesia, etc~ so i thought Britain was still part of the Eurpean continent hahaha

          • Asia’s probably an exception because it’s full of archipelagos (chains of islands). Plus the way they were discovered probably had an impact on how the maps were drawn.

In the early days of cartography, cartographers basically had free roam and actually named some places, and put in some fake places to prove a map was theirs (called paper towns).

    • Living in London all my life, it would actually be really cool to see a region based on the UK. I mean there are quite a few landmarks that are pretty cool (Stonehenge, Angel of the North, London Eye, Hadrians Wall etc).
It would be a nice combination of modernised cities with rural towns in between.
Even postgame to Northern Island and maybe the Battle Frontier on the Isle of Wight haha

      Reply
      • I went to the Isle of Wight once, I think it would make a great Battle Frontier. There would be so many arguments about how it should be traversed though. And there would probably be temptation to represent the North-South divide or Scotland wanting independence, or all those other stereotypical crazy things.

As long as they depicted a version of Cornwall and Somerset though, I’d be happy.

Most things we have in our history, you can find in the continent. In fact, over 50% of everything about us, such as language, architect, mythology, everything, is of Kalos origin (French) since William the Conquerer.

It’s no wonder why the Pokemon Ranger’s Professor is called Hastings.

        Reply
        • It’s more complicated than that. We’ve got things running back to roman times and languages that existed before all the crazy invasions.

I think we’ve influenced other countries just as much as they’ve influenced us.

          Reply
        • We might not be classed as a part of Europe for all that much longer mind you.

England is a nice place to visit, but if you do, don’t just do London, it’s drastically different from the rest of the country. Try to visit at least one seaside location and one rural location if possible. I recommend Somerset if you like Cider and apples 😀

    • Sadly they don’t for me. I will only be using Alola native Pokemon (A.K.A. no Mega-Evolution Pokemon unless we get Alola Pokemon with Mega-Evolution, no Alola variant, and no older Pokemon). I then restart or buy a new game and use past Pokemon during that playthrough, but my first playthroughs are strictly NEW Pokemon.

      Reply
      • I hear ya. I think the only thing that’s making question using only new Pokemon is the fact that the Alolan forms are so close to being new Pokemon on their own. which makes them super fresh and appealing to me lol

  15. So do RBG to BW take place in the same universe and reality while XY to ORAS take place in the Mega Evolution universe? Or do the core games all take place in the same games and remakes take place… Ughhh Pokemon has officially become Zelda time wise! If Sun/Moon take place in the non-Mega universe, then that would explain the no Mega-evolution, but if you do go back to Kalos and the main conflict involves P. Zygarde and mega energy… Hopefully the leaks are right and Sun/Moon take place in the Mega universe.

    Reply
    • I’ve talked about this before and Zinnia explains it well. Basically, the original timeline is the same with the Mega Universe. Just image all of the older games with Mega Evolution. I believe Sun/Moon will continue it do the discovery of the Fairy-Type, potential Key Stone slot, and it’s advanced technology.

      Reply
    • Yeah the timeline is kind of a massive mess atm, I guess we can just assume all games before XY occur in the non-mega timeline, or maybe all games except RS/ORAS/XY occur in both timelines until remade… But then what about RGBY and FRLG ? Dammit I give up haha.
Honestly if SM occurs in the non-mega timeline that’s just gonna be shit, especially since Z-moves are a thing (and so are fairies as libra pointed out).

  16. Does anyone else still think we’re getting Alolan Pokemon outside the Kanto Region? It’s beginning to worry me that GameFreak is taking priority with the Kanto Region again. We haven’t got one Pokemon outside of Generation One. Still, I have a bunch of Kanto Pokemon I want to see receive and Alolan Form, such as that Water-Type Arcanine. I was going for Dragonite for an Alolan Form, but we already saw a normal one in the trailers.

This is a straight up biased marketing ploy to get genwunners to buy the game like with Charizard and Mewtwo in X&Y.

          • Yesssssss I’m sick of Gen one bias. If they do it again after Sun and Moon I’m done with the series

      • It’s not a marketing plan towards “genwunners.” First of all, wouldn’t genwunners hate these redesigns of their childhood Pokémon? Second of all, genwunners aren’t the only ones who grew up with the first generation of Pokémon. I think the opposite of a genwunner should be a PokéVeteran cause I’ve been on this Pokémon ride since it first began and have loved just about everything about the franchise since. I still can’t stand Pokémon GO, though.

        • Sadly, for a huge company such as GameFreak, every move and thing they do is marketing. Yes there may be fan-service here and there, but even those can still somehow be attributed with marketing. The business world is a sly fox all on its own.

          Reply
          • Well, I agree that there is, of course, marketing. But, I don’t believe these Alolan versions or Mega Charizard and Mega Mewtwo are a ploy solely to attract genwunners. Stereotypicaly, genwunners don’t like much change. There are also others who love Pokémon as a whole and people who’s favorite Pokémon are from the first generation. I think Game Freak is just trying to appeal to everyone while keeping their franchise fresh. That’s what I get.

          • No, I agree. I believe these Alola variants are a marketing ploy to attract new players who recently got into Pokemon through other means (Pokemon Go for example) and a staple for any fan is to know the first 151 Pokemon. Thus, by giving these already well known Pokemon, there’s not only hype for veteran fans, but also for newer fans. It’s also a great strategic move because news outlets and media is much more inclined to report about already known property being toyed with and thus creates more conversations. Additioally, giving these Pokemon competitive viability will create much hype for competitive players along with the new Pokemon. Last but not least, it’s just a really good choice because of several factors that I don’t think I have to get into.

          • I get you. But, I’m not so sure that the ones who have recently jumped onto the bandwagon through Pokémon GO are gonna go out and buy Pokémon Sun or Moon along with a 3DS. Not from what I’ve seen, at least. I feel like everyone knows about the franchise, especially the first 151, but they’re only playing the app cause everyone else is doing it and it’s free. I have doubts that this refresher to the series will pull in older fish. But, either way, the more the merrier, and as long as the ones who truly love Pokémon play and get together, that’s all that matters.

          • I concur. But you have to admit, those 100%+ jumps in sales for recent Pokemon titles after Pokemon Go are promising! 😀

        • I agree with you 100% Im a PokeVeteran as well, Ive been playing since red lol and i love every generation but ill never play GO

          • I never owned the first generation of games, but played through them completely. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure if I borrowed from a friend or if I really did own them. I remember playing Red and Yellow versions. That was around 4th or 5th grade. I think. After, I definitely owned Crystal, chose a female as it was the first time we could. I’ve either owned or played each generation. I didn’t own X or Y, but my ex (who’s like a best friend now) owned X and I played it a lot when he came over. I plan on owning Moon for damn sure!

          • Interesting, I dont think i owned my Red version but idk where i got it from either lol. I owned gold with the pikachu special edition gameboy color, some boy gave me my sapphire i swear i didnt bully him for it. I ended up losing it and got emerald some how. cousin gave me fire red but Ummm after that i bought all the other games usually only one of each initial release but id get the third installment Ex: platinum. Idk tho im thinking about getting both sun and moon but cant decide

        • I totally agree with you. 😀
I’m a PokeVeteran as well. I’ve been playing it, and collecting the cards and such since the beginning. I believe I was 10 or 11 when it first came out here in Canada, and now I’m 29 and still going strong as a “Poketard” LOL And I am totally LOVING all this new stuff that they are revealing for the new games. 😀 (Still a little disappointed about the no gym thing, but I’m willing to give this island challenge thing a good try. :D)

      • In all fairness, Mewtwo is pretty epic. Charizard and the starters I can live without, but Mewtwo making a comeback was probably the best gen1 related thing to happen.

      • It’s not only the anniversary of Pokemon, but also the celebration of 20 years of Pokemon. If they wanted to focus primarily on Gen one then they would have released figures and plushes monthly of Mythical Pokemon from most regions. They need to expand in the actual games.

      • Shouldn’t be this much though. It’s a celebration of 20 years of pokemon, not a celebration of just the year that started it all.

    • Who cares? I certainly don’t. I’m just happy that were getting something NEW and EXCITING!! I’m just grateful that were getting ANYTHING AT ALL! I could care less if they seem to be giving the first gen lots of love, because honestly its been forgotten about for a long time, and there are a lot of new players out there that have NO CLUE about the original generation. I mean come on, I saw a post not that long ago, with some stupid “newby” complaining about Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle, being horrible designs for NEW Pokemon, and that the original Pokemon were better. I was like WHAT?!?! OMG Those ARE the original you fool. LOL So I am very VERY glad for these “Alolan forms” and I don’t care if they are from gen one or gen two, or even gen six. As long as we get something, that I can be excited about. 😀

  17. So all the key words, phrases, Pokemon (I might miss some) that have some sort of connection to Pokemon Sun/Moon:
    – Flowers (the only “flowers” we have are Plumeria and Lillie)
    – Alchemy (maybe the main influence for the Pokemon designs, but not the story)
    – Project AZOTH
    – Ancients (the people who lived in Alola before the current age)
    – Infinity Energy (life force of Pokemon)
    – Mega Energy (the energy released by Mega-Pokemon during evolution)
    – It all comes together (the phrase that has everyone talking and guessing)
    – Z-Moves (just what are they?)
    – Zygarde and its forms
    – AZ Floette (is this thing still relevant?)
