CoroCoro Leaking with New Pokémon and Information!

The September issue of CoroCoro has started to leak and with it comes a handful of new Pokémon and information.

UPDATE: More scans have leaked!

  • Namakobushi (sea cucumber & fist) It uses fist-shaped organs which come out of its mouth to punch!

Yesterday’s leaks:

  • Yowashi (weak sardine) is a new Water-Type Pokémon that calls on its friends to change form
  • Sunabaa (sand + boo) and its evolution Shirodesuna (name literally means it’s a castle, isn’t it?) are Ghost/Ground-Type Pokémon
  • Nuikoguma (plush/sewn + cub) is Bewear’s pre evolution and is Normal/Fighting
  • Alolan Meowth confirmed and becomes Dark-Type
  • Alolan Marowak confirmed and will be Fire/Ghost
  • Evil Team is known as Team Skull, they are described as “the no-good Team Skull”. They’re described as hoodlums and you can see the Boss featured in the magazine
  • Serebii is reporting that next month’s issue will feature a “secret evolution” for Rockruff

  1. Not a fan of the sandcastle…maybe it’ll grow on me? What I hate most about it, though, is that genwunners will be stapling these guys all over the Internet, “Look at how BAD Pokémon is now!”

In my opinion though, these two are the only truly bad Pokémon that have been revealed so far 🙂 A few bad Pokémon does not define a gen.

    • I may dislike more of them than you but I completely agree with “A few bad Pokémon does not define a gen.”.

I’m more expecting the genwunners to plaster the alolan Meowth around and say “look they’ve bastardised our wonderful children, gamefreak have run out of so many ideas they’ve realised the old ones are better and are now redoing them”.

Alolan Marowak developed in response to its natural predators in order to

      • I can live with the firestick, it was begging for a firestick. My only issue with it is that the ghost typing came from nowhere. I could understand it learning to breath fire to tackle grass types in the jungle or because it moved nearer a volcano, but the ghost thing implies it died.

          • Aparently they class some Yokai as fairies rather than ghosts, which I don’t get frankly.

The Ice makes sense. The Fairy doesn’t. Problem is, by not classing Yokai as fairies, Mawile should have been Steel/Ghost instead of Steel/Fairy.

So in gamefreak’s mind, Bellossom isn’t a fairy, but Yokai are. Buncha weirdos.

          • In my mind it makes sense for nature spirits like elves, and maybe gnomes, goblins or (at a push, if they don’t look spooky) treants to be fairies, but Yokai should be ghosts.

          • I can partly understand how selective breeding could result in pampered and devious Meowths whom never deal with tough urban lifestyles (and not for nothing they already could learn many Dark Type moves to begin with)
But something like a Fire/Ghost Marowak just will not cut it, they better explain the hell out of it when the official release releases

          • “I’m kind of leaning with you now because I can only explain Alolan Sandshrew/slash and Vulpix ”

Looks like Gikie is just about ready to join the club. That makes 4 people in the “Justify the Alolans” club 😀

          • My shoes are already off lol I need more biological/physiological/biochemical logic to the “adaptation” that GF is using…

          • My only guess is the lore of the nine tailed fox – a fairy tale. The problem with that logic is that, if lore/fairy tales make a fairy typing, then we’d have a crap ton more fairies.

Conclusion: I’m as stumped as you and @EarthenWarrior are

      • Seems to have developed to defend against Bewear. Ghost immune to both STABs and Fire because of Bewear’s Fluffy ability. Also, you know, like when you’re camping you use a fire to scare animals, namely bears. Maybe that’s why he has a torch?

      • honestly who cares its a fictional fantasy game it doesn’t really need to make sense, its not like half the stuff in zelda or mario makes sense but people still love it and don’t question it, why should pokemon be different, I feel like people are just looking for things to hate on tbh :/

        Reply
        • That’s a load of crock, Gamefreak puts a hell of a lot of work in their Pokemon and they don’t just make things for the sake of making things

          Reply
          • No they don’t but they have already given you plenty of reasons as to why the variants are the way they are, its not my fault you cant accept it, pokemon isn’t real life dude, things don’t have to match up perfectly just accept it and move on

          • no but when you put up such a fuss about it for a fictional game that has already had things break all laws of science and logic both in the anime and the games, its pretty ridiculous, come on earthen, get a grip and move on with your life, if pokemon was just like real life it would be pretty freaking boring.

          • Alright clearly your chewing me out on account of your own insecurities
I am a die hard Pokemon fanatic, a hardcore battler, a varying intelligent person for Pokemon and extremely creative designer

Gamefreak and Pokemon have logic, end of story
            bug off,

        • Ok, if it doesn’t have to make sense, let’s just give the humans evolve too, and give them wings and swords. And they all wear goofy hats. Or better yet, the entire world is populated by clones of the same human.

          • omfg even you should know whats wrong with that comment, just because one thing doesn’t have to make sense doesn’t automatically plunge the world into chaos jesus. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

          • There has to be logic, if something as fundamental as biology doesn’t make sense, there’s no barrier to stop other things no longer making sense. It’s a slippery slope.

          • …. did you just… slippy slope is something only crazy republican bigots ever say, now I’m inclined to think you’re just trolling.

Its a pokemon game, LOL at you saying biology has to make sense in a game with flying magnets and living piles of goo. They adapted to their surroundings over time and so far every single one of the alolan adaptations make sense, sorry you people have a hard time with that.

          • I was referring to grime and mum not the duosion line, and I’m not american either, but you know what I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree, I just wish people would stop hating on things just because they don’t understand them, it gives me anxiety. well actually everything gives me anxiety

          • If you’re not American, why on earth do you care about the Republicans?

It’s not a matter of not understanding, it’s a lack of information and justification. The typings can be justified, but they haven’t been completely justified yet. In comparison, they perfectly explained why Mimikyu is a walking sheet that looks like Pikachu.

          • because they are my neighbours and they fear monger and try to destroy the lives of my american brothers and sisters, and really anyone who is not exactly like them, but I digress this conversation is going no where good so thats the last I have to say on the matter

      • Either way, what’s wrong with that? It, in my opinion, looks way more badass than the regular Marowak. Imagine what its movepool would consist of? Especially since Marowak is physical Pokémon.

        • I’m a science major, when they announced they’re making pokemon go through adaptation I was excited, but I feel they’re going to abuse it. Adaptation is supposed to be to things like environmental change, and sometimes to predators, but ghost type doesn’t make sense when you put it in logical terms

  4. Awww why not show alolan persian. Please be dark/fairy and gamefreak give me a alolan psyduck/golduck that’s water psychic(Finally!)

    Reply
    • Ok seriously why the effing hell would a Alolan Persian be a Fairy Type
This is why I hate Fairies so god damn much is the people constantly making everything out to be a fairy

      Reply
      • For one the fairy type has very few pokemon represent it and they broke down the very powerful Dragon type plus with their weakness being poison that brought up their usefulness in the game. So fairy types were very much needed to help get more types shine. As for persian being part fairy just my personal opinion.

  5. For anyone who’s interested, this disproves some of the Anon__151 reddit posts since he/she said Marowak would be Fire/Ground.

  6. Can we please get a good ice type this gen?
I know we have Alola Forms but they don’t count. I want a proper, 3-Staged Ice type Pokemon.
Also, I’m Tired of all these Fairies in Alola. We need more diversity, such as more Fire and Dark types as well

    • Erm… Kanto pokemon don’t ‘become’ alolan form. They are either Alolan or they are Kanto, they can’t change between the two, that’s not how natural selection works.

      Reply
      • Yeah, the description for alolan meoth is that it was bred by royal family t land that’s how it got its typing and form changed, so it’s not something that would just happen

  7. So is it just tradition now to have a negative reaction to new pokemon at first glance? I mean people are a bit harsh at sand castle, and Bewear’s pre-evo is a little plushie.

      • I disliked Bewear and Mimikyu when they were first revealed, but have since warmed up to them. I can’t stand Gumshoos. Just… nooo. Everything else has been fine with me.

    • Sandcastle Mon is cool.

I was never fond of Bewear in the first place and its pre evo does nothing to remedy that for me. Unfortunately

  8. Anyone else realize that the mom in this game has a regular ol’ Meowth? Since they just moved to Alola, this basically confirms that any Pokémon that has an Alola form will stay in its original form if transferred from a previous game. It just makes sense.

    Reply
    • No shit, it’s not that hard
They have to be born in the Alola region to have an Alolan Form, they just don’t magically become one because entering the region

          • Klink (Clink). Klang (Clang). Espurr (Esper). Foongus (Fungus). Tirtouga (Tortuga – Spanish for turtle). Boldore (Boulder). Purrloin (Purloin).

Rotom is Motor backwards just as Ekans was Snake backwards.

Times don’t change all that much.

          • Well Clink is more of an onemonopea than a word and the rest are at least pronounced differently unlike Muk, Persian, Ghastly, Haunter, Seel, Dewgong, Electrode, Drowzee, and probably more that I can’t remember. The ones mentioned above are puns not just straight misspelled words.

          • An onomatopoeia is a real word.
Espurr is pronounced the same as Esper but with a longer R, which is effectively the same rule as Drowzee.
Haunter isn’t a real word, nor a mispelt real word.
Dewgong is a pun on dew because it’s part water.
Tirtouga is a misspelt spanish word.

          • Whatever dude, I’m not going to argue with you because we could go on all day. I believe that poor names are a lot less common nowadays and you think there still are bad names. There’s not much more to say.

          • No, I’m pointing out the fact that Delfin wasn’t that bad compared to some of the names already in existance in multiple generations. They could have changed the f to a ph to make Delphin, it wouldn’t make much difference, either way it still fits in.

    • Yeah, maybe we’ll see Butterfree in the anime again, with the pink Butterfree that is actually revealed of being an Alola Butterfree.

  9. I love the fish, I love the sand castle, I LOVE Bewear’s pre evo!!! It’s so freaking adorable!! The mouth is a little freaky tho…..I imagine it opening it is and having a set of razor sharp teeth hahaha I also love Alolan Meowth and Marowak. I’m digging Team Skull. I a get the crazy tribal thing from them. I can’t wait to see what Rockrufff’s evolution is! Then we can really get our leaks and rumors organized and decide which ones are real and which ones aren’t. I imagine the reason they announced something for the 12th officially is the fact that we got info on Team skull. The past few times CoroCoro has come out there has only been 2 Pokemon shown in it and the official Pokemon accounts didn’t announce the trailers we ended up getting. This time around we got info on actual characters. lol

  13. Since you’re all dying to know another’s opinion, here I go. XD

Bewear prevo: weird mouth that doesn’t fit it’s muzzle although I’m pretty sure bewear’s didn’t either. Glad it’s a full line (like sunny said below). Still won’t use it.

Sandcastle: love. I’m probably in the minority but item Pokemon and cool concepts like these show the most creativity. Plus, it eats pikachu.

Fish: reminds me of the book about Swimmy from my childhood (I said this earlier last night) and I love that. Look it up if you don’t know and buy it for your kids. :)))

Team skull: lame name. Insterested in their motive nonetheless. Also, that Doctor brown comment made my week.

Alolan meowth: looks odd for some reason. Can’t put my finger on it. Please make Persian a panther.

Alolan marowak: would have liked to see more tribal markings and such. The ghost type makes sense since it’s the dead mother of cubone. But all in all its a little underwhelming for a fire type. Would have loved to see a charred mask with tribal markings or something. And brighter colors overall.

  14. My thoughts on this info:
Yowashi: it could be cool, but it doesn’t appeal to me personally.
Sunabaa + Evo: The ghost type really makes this one for me. It has a cool design though I may not put it on my team.
Bewear prevo: I don’t like it much but I don’t like Bewear either, so maybe that’s it.
Alolan Forms: Marowak was expected, I’m interested to see the explanation for meowth.
Team Skull: I keep thinking about the team from PMD2, I kinda wish they chose a better name. Though I wish we knew what they wanted to do.
Rockruff: what can they mean by secret? As in a split evo, or is it just a bad wording for a regular evo?

    Reply
    • They’ve been building up Rockruff for a while now. I can’t imagine it’ll have just a regular evo after all this lol

      Reply
        • No idea, but I can’t see it being just it evolves at a certain level lol Maybe that one other rumor is real and it evolves by leaving it on a peak at night lol

        • Rumor flying around that Rockruff has a split evo, or at least evo that can be various types. And yes this was around before that “leaked pokdex”
