Happy 20 years, Pokémon

On this day 20 years ago, the first two Pokémon games Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green were released for the GameBoy in Japan.  Since then over 17 core series games, countless spin-offs, 18 movies, various anime series, manga, merchandise and much, much more has been released globally and there’s still more to come.

The series itself has become an icon over the last 20 years and its popularity is still growing to this day, with Pokémon Sun and Moon promised to be the biggest and greatest games to date. So here’s to Pokémon. For the last 20 years and to the next 20. Here’s to the adventure of our lives we’ve taken alone, with friends and with the world. For all the relationships we’ve created and to those we’ve yet to.

Here’s to you Pokémon. Happy 20th Anniversary, from everyone at PokéJungle.net

  1. To celebrate I was replaying B2 today just to reminisce on one of my favorite games, and to my surprise I ran into a shiny female Spoink in Reversal Mountain (Thank Arceus that Bianca didn’t KO her). But does anyone have any good nicknames I could give her to commemorate Pokemon’s 20 years?

  2. Ok I need confirmation from someone actively watching the Pokemon stream! Is it true that one of the hosts stated that they hadn’t ever announced anything b4? Also apparently there is a future of Pokemon segment coming up at some point? Could tis b an extra Sun and Moon announcement?!?!?!?! I’m keeping my hopes low, but I need something!!! Anyone watching the stream and can tell me if this is true?

    • Hmmmmm if Pokken Tournament is gonna b covered in general maybe there will b something cool? I can’t imagine them talking about Go as there’s gonna b a thing in March so I’d think that they’d keep any news for that until then. Otherwise I have no idea what they’d talk about for 30 minutes……I really don’t want to get my hopes up……but……….COME ON!!!

  3. Y’all keep on giving me all the BW feels with these comments and now I’ll have to play them yet again, for the gazillionth time. I remember all the hype with the release and playing them for the first time – it was completely mindblowing and heartwarming at the same time. I haven’t played any of the others quite as many times as them, simply because of how captivating the games felt. The characters were all so human and relatable, as others have described, and I wish all other Pokémon games could have been a bit more like that.

    • I actually love that about Pokken: when it first came out, everyone had all these prejudices against certain types of Pokemon being in the game and thought it was just an all out brawl between Fighting-types. However, Suicine, Pikachu, and Gardevoir changed that mindset. Pokken’s diversity is one of the factors that I think will make it really successful. Chandelure was the last Pokemon people expected to be in Pokken but now that it is, people are being more open to certain Pokemon that don’t generally fit the brawl mold being in Pokken.

      • Yeah, they made it work and it’s awesome that they did. I’ll just have to get used to his attacks. I am glad they didn’t use fighting types only. That would’ve been really boring

    • We’ll c if they actually talk about anything of substance. I’m not entirely convinced they’d talk about the games on a single language stream. It’s not like there’s a bunch of streams going in different languages and it’s all leading up to something. I hope we get something, but I don’t kno lol
