The Pokémon Company has officially announced Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon versions in today’s Pokémon Direct.

The two games will launch in 2016 Holiday for 3DS

Pokémon Sun & Moon are compatible with Pokémon Bank and Pokémon can be transferred to Sun and Moon from the Virtual Console games. It will also be possible to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon X & Y and ORAS, using Pokémon Bank. The games will be playable worldwide in 9 languages.

The official site has confirmed that Sun and Moon will arrive with “a new world, new Pokémon, and new adventures to discover”. New Pokémon and region/s are confirmed! In addition to this the press release for the UK specifically states that Sun and Moon are a “new generation of Pokémon game”.

Sun & Moon - New Pokémon

For those with a keen eye: the trailer appears to tease a new bird Pokémon with a similar appearance to Fletchling.

  1. No new footage was a little disappointing but I’m still excited. Can’t wait for people to analyze the behind the scenes and concept shots from the vid.

  2. I think it’s really cool that we can bring over Pokemon from the VC versions of Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. I was hoping for at least a teaser trailer of the new games though.

  3. I was legit ugly crying during the whole stream. I remember being a child and playing these games and now that I’m 21 and realizing it’s been 20 years of pokemon made me cry in excitement.

  4. So we know they are real and on 3DS out at the end of the year and will somehow work with Pokemon Bank to allow RBY Pokemon to be transferred…. but that’s all we know… well from what we saw in the development video it seems cool… but really no actual details about the game. Like region or new Pokemon or legendaries or anything?! Ok then… hopefully we get news soon, like seriously. Come on with that.

  5. It’s not much, but we can assume this game contains old Pokemon unlike BW because you could see a Horsea statue as well as a Wingull flying in an image next to a boat.

  6. I’m so happy.
I see a lot of hate comments, saying they wanted to see a trailer. We weren’t even supposed to know about Sun and Moon, so HELLO be happy damn.

  7. From the concept pictures alone, I can easily say these games look to be twice as big as XY and ORAS was, and it seems they plan them to be the biggest Pokemon game to be. If anything, I’ll take it that this gen will have a lot of big things like Cars, and that Blastoise on the car just made it seem like we have battles on more than one battle arena now lol (simple guess). Also the Pokemon Center looks TOO COOL! Pokemon SUN and MOON HYPE! (Deff getting Sun bc namesake lol).

  8. Ok now I’m finally convinced that we are getting a new generation, but I still think it will have some relation to Kalos in some way. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  9. I had no idea how they had to improve on the 3D, but o my god they did it just looks great and I can’t wait being on this site waiting for all the news and commenting with you guys!!

    • Disappointing? Even with the info being leaked yesterday, isn’t it still great? You didn’t even know whether the names were real or not. At least be happy that they are and that they will be released this year.

  10. SOOOO does anyone thing this could be it?! The game we have been waiting for?! I am so hyped right now CoroCoro will be releasing soon and since the game is released in the Holiday that literally is less than 10 MONTHS AWAY!?!?! Ohhh the feels and the hype are going to get real my friends….

  11. I’m still getting stuck on where the announcer said “It all comes together…”
Is it possible we could get all/multiple regions in one game? I’m not a tech guru so I don’t know if that’s actually possible for the 3DS, but it’s a neat idea.

  12. This trailer made me cry :’). I’m so excited for the new games to come out.

Did someone notice, that the trainer who’s seen in front of this White building in the trailer to sun and moon looks like Red ?

  13. So does anyone think that with Pokemon Day tomorrow we will get maybe more information? I’m glad we got confirmation, but I really would’ve liked some actual information.

    • Don’t worry, we’ll have hype announcements to feed us in the mean time, no more dry news periods ahead, the hype train has left the station! (and there’s lots of fun to be had in the waiting!

      • Though if they could like not leak 70% of the pokédex or all the megas beforehand that would be nice… No actually that would be normal, and not being idiots with the marketing. Please think smart gamefreak.

    • 10.5 XD? You know that Holiday season is always around Thanksgiving, which means that the games might come around November :). but still we have 9 months to go

    • I forgot to tell you that ORAS for example took less time because it was based of the engine of X/Y. This basicallly means that we get a 3DS game which has a new engine

      Reply
  14. I don’t mean to be the person shutting everyone down, but we only see two 3D models in the whole trailer? Everyone’s talking about an improvement of the 3D, but the Pokemon Center (while looking like a really cool design) looks to be in the same engine as X and Y. The giant white building we’re seeing is only a painting.

    Reply
    • If these are indeed gen VII I honestly doubt we won’t get at least some kind of visual upgrade, it’s always been like that in the past.

      Reply
      • I’m not saying we won’t get a visual upgrade. I just can’t agree with everyone stating that the 3D looks so improved upon based off that trailer. A lot of people are claiming visual similarities to Kalos, but most of that probably comes from the game being made on the same animating/programming engine.

However, I will say–based off the unfinished new pokemon model–that it looks like they are improving the Pokemon models themselves. It looks a lot smoother than what we currently have.

My guess is that the main improvement in 3D will come in the form of maintaining frame speed, reducing lag, in battle when the 3D function is turned on.

        Reply
        • Yeah fair, I’d definitely agree with that. I just doubt they wouldn’t at least build a new engine, but I guess they could heavily improve the old one like you’re suggesting.

          Reply
          • The only reason I would think they aren’t using a new engine is the NX rumors. I’m thinking of sun and moon a lot like Black/White… Those games (and their sequels) were sort of the last effort of the DS. If the NX rumors are true, and it IS a combination of mobile and console gaming; Pokemon would be making a move onto that system. If the NX were to be released this year, there’s a high probability they could be simultaneously developing a whole new engine for that while making one more generation with their current engine to keep the fans satisfied during the weight…

All of this being my speculation and wishful thinking of course. 😉

          • Oh, my god! I was waiting to see if someone–anyone!–would remember me.

Should I sound really pretentious and be like: Yes, it is I, King Anteros returned from the great, mysterious abyss that was my absence.

          • Ahaha, I sort of just read your name and didn’t think anything of it. Then I read it again and remembered a conversation I had with PJ about what happened to you. 😉

          • A conversation about what happened to me?? I’m touched. I was remembered! :’)

Here’s the short story: When I was on here all the time before, I was very sick and basically bedridden. Once I was well enough to go back to school, I sort of just threw myself into it. I’ve been very busy with classes, teaching, and relationships. Now, I’m graduating this Spring, hopefully heading off to Grad school shortly after.

Very conveniently, I don’t have classes on Fridays this semester. So, I woke up early for the direct, and this news was TOO good to note start commenting here again.

          • Ahaha, he did tell me I believe. This was sometimes in 2012, right?

Glad it’s all been going well though! 🙂
(Also glad of that convenient coincidence haha!)

    • It wouldn’t be a new Pokemon game without some major rumors :3 It’s what makes this season super fun while we are waiting for the game 😀
      I honestly can’t wait.

  16. I’m so hyped. I’m sure the trucks have some sort of function, perhaps the taxi service I’ve wanted for years so HM Fly isn’t needed as much?? They wouldn’t have emphasised them that much if they aren’t going to be used in game. Also the models look amazing, people look a lot taller and more real. Can’t wait to see what battles look like. Hopefully Pokemon run up to each other, and there are specific reactions for each Pokemon getting hit with different moves. So much more I want to post lol. Onto another year of waiting for CoroCoro leaks and speculation! Welcome back old Pokejungle 🙂

    Reply
    • Well, these trucks don’t look like taxis, they look like an ambulance, a pickup truck (maybe a construction truck?) and a fire truck. But who knows?
And those people models do look amazing 😀
I would hope so, battles would be awesome if it was like that.
      It’s great to be back 😀 <3

      Reply
      • The ambulance really interests me. I don’t want to be able to call them to heal your Pokemon in routes. That would make the games too easy. Maybe it’s like a side activity, driving round helping Pokemon? lol I have no idea. Anything can happen. I’ve missed this kind of speculation

        Reply
    • I think all these vehicles and stuff is about making the world less simplistic and more realistic, in a pokémon way of course, so with things like using blastoise on fire engines for example. I’m really excited if they’re gonna do more coherent world building, the world in pokémon games always felt like a weird abstraction of reality rather than a truly coherent modern world, especially compared to the anime.

Just a shot in the dark here.

  18. Upon rewatching the Direct, I noticed that in the screenshot that shows the building and the Horsea fountain, you can see a tropical tree in the background. And when I thought of the tropics, my first thought was the lackluster battle resort from ORAS. But then I also remembered the Strange Souvenir from XY that resembled a tiki head of sorts. I don’t know if any of these can be tied together, but I’m placing my bets on an island based region. (Probably won’t be the case but oh well)

  19. The screenshot of the cars and trucks seems interesting to me. We’ve never had such emphasis on vehicles in the past, beyond a couple basic models, could there be some sort of driving system in the game?

But I don’t remember the name now either xD and how not to love you guys?! You spoil us with all the fresh updates and all! I make some Aerodactyl screeching sounds every now and then when PJ shows up on my phone 😀 can’t wait for a whole year of fun stuff! (I haven’t actually played anything after BW2 because I haven’t managed to afford a 3ds or any of the games yet… *sobs* but maaaaaybe in time for Sun and Moon? here’s hoping)

          • Ahaha, ummm. Of the current team… Uhh. I think it’s Ozymandis, Dicie and… That’s it? I have no idea haha. That was probably Kriffix you saw, he does a lot of translating.

            Ahaha, that’s sort of…cute?

  22. With all the excitement, I forgot with a new gen comes new starters lol. I really want grass/dragon, water/fairy and fire/fighting (jk fire/electric or anything else not done with starters yet).

    Reply
        • Or pure types! I don’t like pure types so much 😛 Fire/Electric sounds like a really cool type though. Odd that it hasn’t been done

          Reply
          • No pure types please. Gen 4 is my favorite gen and one reason it is, are the dual typed starters. I love it, especially Empoleon.

          • I know! In my opinion the starters got better with every gen (Charizard and gen 6 excluded, because Charizard is great and gen 6 really wasn’t).

          • Oh no. One of my favorite starters (if not my favorite) is Samurott. Serperior is great too, Emboar isn’t as great as the other two. I’m less of a fan of gen 2 and 3, although Feraligatr and Blaziken are also amazing.

          • I feel the same way. I remember when they were revealed, I actually hated it. Then the sprites came and I thought they looked weird. I became a fan when I saw all the fan artwork on the internet. Then XY came with their 3D models and I was so happy when I saw what they did with Samurott, because it finally looked good in-game.

          • I know… In my opinion Delphox and Chesnaught should have been completely different, I hate their design. Greninja on the other hand is the better starter in gen 6, but I still don’t feel comfortable with its weird tongue hahaha

          • They’re all pretty flawed in my opinion. It makes me sad because Fennekin/Braixen were really cool but then they just made Delphox boring and bland.

          • I couldn’t agree more. I thought Fennekin and Braixen were a huge step in the right direction for a fire starter. When Delphox was revealed, I just knew I wouldn’t be picking the fire starter.
Let’s just hope for better Pokemon this gen. As I already mentioned, I would just love a Grass/Ice, a Fire/Fairy and a Water/Ghost trio (even though I know GF will just use boring type combinations).

    • One of the things that I like speculating about is just the animals that they could be based off of. They usually follow a theme (Chespin is the only one that breaks a pattern). The Fire type follows the Chinese zodiac, grass type are USUALLY (stupid Chespin) reptiles, and the water type is based off an animal associated WITH water but does not exclusively live in water.

As for secondary typing, I don’t think they’ll stray much from types they’ve already done. I know that doesn’t meet fan expectations but they have a tendency to stick with types that are either most helpful (fighting, ground, etc.) or types that are at the same level strength-wise as fire, water, grass. Sadly, I think that means no dragon type ever in a starter, and a lot of other types people are speculating seem unlikely too–apart from electric.

      Reply
    • This is definetly going to a tropical region! I’m getting an island vibe

And yes hopefully there is some type of connection with Kali’s, because I don’t feel like they really wrapped up generation 6 the right way. But gen7!!! Let’s do this!! I want an awesome fire starter!

      Reply
  23. Okay so what if they putting an emphasis on vehicles what if And it’s a big what if you can have the first pokemon in your party follow and they ride in the back of the truck…..dun dun DUN!

  24. Anyone tried translating any of the text in the video yet? Like on the concept images to see if it reveals the function of the cars in game?

  25. Well this is exciting!! They may have not shown any footage, but there was some interesting concept art shown as well as that new flying type! I feel bad for Zygarde for getting the shaft in the games, but if this is a new gen I’m not complaining hahaha

    Reply
  26. SO! New Gen, new starters! If you didn’t know, each Fire-type starter is based on the Chinese zodiac. So far we have Charmander representing the dragon, Cyndaquil representing the rat, Torchick representing the rooster, Chimchar representing the monkey, Tepig representing the pig and Fennekin representing the dog. The zodiac animals left are the sheep, horse, snake, rabbit, tiger and ox.
Which Chinese zodiac animal would you guys like to see as the next Fire-type starter? I’d LOVE for it to be a tiger!

  27. Man. I hope the formula changes. The same starter types, same 8 badges, the same elite 4. And evil team. It grows tiresome. Here’s to hoping they mix it up a bit. After 20 years…I hope something changes.

    Reply
      • I agree. And I am still a sicker for it. But if you do 8 gymss again. They should do it based on stats rather than type. Make it challenging. Like speed gym, cute gym, strength gym, ancient Pokemon gym, heavy gym etc. Keep the formula, but put a spin on it.

        Reply
        • I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR A DECADE! Why do gyms have to be solely based on TYPES ? Why not a heavy gym, or a rare gym, speed, dark type, scary, cute, A TRIPLE BATTLE GYM, a double battle gym. How about a gym where you have to team up with a cpu player and battle two gym leaders in a double battle. Or even a gym filled with weather conditions! I’m just throwing shit at the wall. But you get the point. Some creativity toward one of the most core elements of the game would be extremely delightful

          Reply
    • I agree in part. I mean, I also do love the formula. I just think that there has to be post-game stuff. It’s a bit disheartening not to have goals after the elite 4 etc. It’s why I support the idea of it being like Johto and Kanto.

      Reply
  28. Things I want:
    Dark type gym
    Surf models for reach Pokemon
Not needing to have the move surf to cross water. If a Pokemon is big enough and can swim (mostly water types), it should able to swim without the need for surf. Same with all HMs really.

  29. So, this is really exciting. A new generation of Pokemon is upon us! I can’t wait to find out more. The only thing that kind of surprises me is that it is for the 3DS. With the NX speculated to come out this year, and rumored to be a handheld/home console, I would have thought they would save Pokemon for it. Maybe it’ll get a dual release (doubtful). Anywho, what do you guys want to see? AND What do you think we will see?

Personally, I want 80-120 New Pokemon, 15-25 New Mega Evolutions, Trainer Customization return and more options for it, and a return to Kalos to do the Zygarde story.

    • From the minute I saw it, I knew it was most likely real. I mean, trademarks usually end up being real, since es kinda hard to fake a trademark filed by Nintendo. Plus, it had logos and everything, like that also added proof to the ‘Real’ category for me.
Plus, they said ‘big news’ I doubt anything other than a new game announcement would be ‘big news’

  32. Soo…if they do south east france/germany, they could have a Berlin Wall type situation. Not sure they would want to get into something possiblly political likebthat, but it’s an idea. Both sides have a different idea, evil teM is from other side of th wall or soemthing, different pokemon and ideas?

    • Hmmm, that’s interesting. I admit, it might be a bit too much, since there’s some dark history there, but it would be pretty awesome.

      Reply
    • I’m 95.5555555% sure that whatever “region” this is, it’ll connect to Kalos much in the same way Kanto/Johto did. It just feels right. There’s a whole southern part of Kalos we haven’t seen but heard of. Kalos as a whole wasn’t nearly as explored as any of the previous regions. Not to mention this is a big milestone in Pokemon history, and I’m sure they want to treat their fans with something special and much requested, which is this is.

I know this kind of theory comes up with every generation, but it really feels right this time.

      Reply
      • It does, considering Kalos and Kanto had similarities. It made sense from that time and even now to think there might be a Johto-like region connected to Kalos.

        • Because Gym Leaders are meant to be respected and looked up to
I remeber hearing something how it would promote bad influences
AND BEFORE EVERYONE SHOVES ELITE FOUR THEY ARE RENOWNED FOR BEING THE TOUGHEST OF THE REGION
WHICH HAS NO AFFILIATION TO THE GYM LEADERS

          Reply
          • You can say the same about the E4. They the toughest and strongest, people look up to them.
‘Evil’ is meant to be like trickery, cheating in a way.
And yes, they do have an affiliation, since you need to beat the Gym Leaders to get to the E4, es the system they developed.
If you make a Dark Gym Leader like Karen (who said that memorable quote by the way of playing the way you want to play with the Pokemon you like, regardless of its ‘Evil’ type of not)
It could also be a reformed criminal, who learned their ways but likes Dark types, showing that there is redemption for people who want it.
            I believe es a good message 🙂

          • It’s really not an argument that gym leaders can’t be dark because it promotes “evilness”. It’s not like the E4 are morally ambiguous. They’re more powerful than gym leaders and command more respect. There should be a dark gym.

          • Exactly, but if people think that way, then do something like I said, where it’s someone who used to be ‘evil’ so to say, but learned their ways. I dunno, es just how I feel about people who bring that argument up.

  33. I’m excited about the new gen,but I seriously hope they wrap up the whole Kalos story properly, and that they mix up the formula.

    My hopes:

Better Engine (so no framerate drops)
3d models for all elite 4 and gym leaders
    Awesome story
    Good post game
    Difficulty
    6v6 Random Battles

  34. Based on the descriptions, it looks like we won’t be unraveling the mysteries of the Kalos region, at least not in these titles. How do we feel about the high likelihood of these being Generation 7 games?

    Reply
  35. I think Magearna might be a Gen 7 legendary Pokémon. I really feel like there will be some type of connection from Gen 6 to Gen 7. Gen 1 and Gen 2 had were connected, although it wasn’t story-wise. Wasn’t there an NPC in some hotel in Kalos saying something about a new region?? Hmm…

    Reply
    • Your memory is correct. And I believe it was Shauna who mentioned that she’s going to go to a faraway region next. Maybe our rivals from Kalos will follow us to this new region, and bring us back to their homeland in the postgame (as Percy mentioned).

      Reply
        • True, I didn’t care for the rivals (Excluding the main one, Callum or Serena). I kind of just want one rival, really. Having more than one always was meh to me.

          Reply
        • It would serve as a reason for us to go back to Kalos in the postgame. Either that or the villainous team goes to Kalos and we need to go after them. Nonetheless, it seems strange that a game’s lore like XY’s is just left hanging.

          Reply
          • I also liked Barry a lot. Don’t know why, just loved battling him. Giving us a rival where the other gender is your rival is lazy. Hugh was nice too, Bianca and Cheren not so much. Gen 6 was absolutely the worst rival-wise.

          • I like the rivals who change or learn something through the journey. It makes them more human in a way. Barry realized he couldn’t be silly and ridiculous all the time, that he had to be serious and take things more seriously.
Hugh was awesome too, since he learned to stop treating you like a pawn and like the friend you were supposed to be (At least in my eyes, since some people don’t really see it)
And Silver is the best example. He saw Pokemon as tools, hated people, hated the world, even, but because of you being his rival and Lance, he learned to love Pokemon and tolerate people.

  36. At the part of the trailer where they had snippets of the player running in different games, I really wish they had included a shot of the player in sun and moon, it would have really upped my excitement and it would have been great to get more of a glimpse of what the game looks like

I’m gonna be honest and say that if they reuse Kalos completely and call it a postgame, I’ll be irritated. I want something BW2 Unova style if we go back to Kalos–sufficient alterations but nothing dramatic.

So 7th generation for sure. But after a year and a half of nothing they could give us something more then logos. -.-‘

    • We already knew that, plus we weren’t supposed to find out about them until today, so it’s a little bit ruined by that.
Plus, we got more than just logos, we got peeks into some designs of what will be in the game, and a potential new Pokemon being animated.
Plus, CoroCoro will be here soon, so we don’t have to wait long.

      • Well, I wouldn’t say that Sun and Moon were ruined by the trademark stuff yesterday. Just because they trademark something doesn’t mean it’s coming. We all know the list of game titles that haven’t been used. Personally, I was excited just from the actual confirmation.

          • I completely understand. I would’ve loved even a copy and paste of the X and Y reveal trailer. A little walking around, the starters, the cover legendaries. That would’ve been a perfect start to this one too. It would give a lot more to talk about but we can always hope for something in CoroCoro.

          • I’m literally shaking from excitement… or just how cold it is.. Either way I can’t wait. I need my reptilian fluff ball (dragon eevee).

  46. Okay, I just took my exam and I’m still super sleep deprived.

I’m really hoping the new region is tropical, south/central america themed, that’d be really cool because that’s my cultural background.

    Mega Milotic will happen. 🙂

I’m wondering and hoping that if the games tie into the Kalos, maybe we’re either looking at Spain to the south or go over those mountains and we get a Mediterranean inspired region.

      • Agreed! That’s why I was thinking about what’s around France! Id personally like to see Kalos and a new region interested into storyline and post storyline instead of do one, then the other. I liked how long the first chunk of the game took up to the third gym and really hope that they go that route for the whole thing this time!

        • I’ve had metagross as my partner since gen 3. Steven was my idol growing up and getting that Beldum almost made me cry when I was a kid. I hatched my shiny and he’s been with me ever since. That mega stone was opportunity to finally tell him thanks for everything. I love my Metagross.

          Reply
          • Metagross was the first Pokemon I ever soft reset for to get an Adamant Nature and the first Pokemon I EV trained. Steven Stone has been and will always be my favourite champion and character In all of Pokemon.

          • Ok, things are getting a litte creepy haha. Though after i really knew what shinies were and natures and all that really were, I set out to make my ideal Metagross. Now I have a shiny, adamant, 6IV Metagross.

          • Gary is a great rival too. He was cocky and arrogant so it felt rewarding when I beat him battle, I always like the fact he was the champion and the end of the game like you and him were competing.

          • It wasn’t really ‘rewarding’ for me. I felt sorry for him that he was picking on me to make himself feel better. It wasn’t a victory.
And I also felt bad that Oak ignored his own grandson become Champion in favor of when we beat him and became Champion. Es sad.
But that’s just my take on things.

          • That’s fine, I don’t care. I liked Gary to an extent, but I mostly pitied him. He’s better than the XY rivals for sure. And especially Brendan.

          • I keep getting put off by his comment at the beginning of how he thought we were a guy cause we are a Gym Leader’s kid. It’s trival but still annoying.

    • My main wish is for some new battling mechanic to spice things up a bit

X/Y introduced megas which made things interesting for a bit. But the battling scene still got stale pretty quick.

        • Hate both of them
One I am extremely annoyed on how much people think anything remotely feminine of spritish should be a fairy when they’re clearly not
Roseraid, Lake Trio, Cresselia, Rapidash, Milotic and ect, it just angers the blood

And for Milotic i have a feud with it for a long list of reasons

          Reply
          • I think inspirations/origins make a fairy. I’m more with tricksters and mischievous pixies being fairies.
Rapidash is based on a unicorn, somewhat. That’s a legend, so I associate it with fairy, in a way.

          • But in reality it’s a hot blooded fire horse that races and competes everyday
Like the steeds of the mighty Apollo

That is so far from a fairy, and everyone bitches its a unicorn so it should be one

          • True, but there’s no proof that it’s a war horse really. That’s your view of what it is, just like my view is that it’s a fire unicorn.
Everyone thinks so cause unicorns are in fairy tales and are associated with fairies, so it makes sense.
Either way, I don’t care if it becomes fairy or not. I really don’t if any older mons get Fairy added. I’m just saying it could be possible because of its origins/inspiration.

          • I know of Apollo and his steeds, I love Greek mythology and I pride myself in knowing a good amount of it and other mythologies.
I’m just saying it’s your view of it.

          • It’s also a unicorn, because it has a horn and it looks like depictions of unicorns except with fire.
            You can’t ignore that.

          • that may be true, but that’s where i get mad, then people start going off on that one small detail or that idea and think mega evolution will make it happen

          • Es not a ‘small detail’ It’s a part of its design. A big part, enough to be inspired by it. That is its origin.
And I much prefer an evolution :3 but that’s just me.
And it’s speculation. Harmless speculation. People were excited about Fairy type and wondering what older Pokemon would get it. And even after, there’s some people who wanted it. At the end of the day, if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen.
People get excited, people think about things. It’s what makes us human. People think about a small detail and speculate about it, it isn’t worth getting angry about it. You can disagree and list your reasonings, but it isn’t worth getting so worked up about it. I disagree with Roserade being fairy and I have my reasons for it, but I don’t get too emotionally attached. I discuss my reasons, but if people still think that way, then that’s fine.

          • I know not everyone agrees with everyone else, this long debate is proof of it, and I am very well aware of it before this. I like making people think about their views, though, so it’s why I consider them to question it.
But regardless, this long debate over what could or could not be fairy isn’t necessary. Fighting tooth and nail isn’t worth it, it just makes people upset and not happy, the opposite of what speculation is supposed to do.

          • I guess. At the end of the day, it’s who you are and I can’t fault you for that. Thanks for the discussion, it was nice 🙂

          • Yeah, I can see that. It doesn’t really bother me. I’m fine with wishful thinking but with speculation, I rather my fact based conclusions. I still love both, but I would rather keep them separate. Like I want a ram starter, but there’s no hard evidence. A dragon eevee could happen based on past eevee trends and the relation to fairy type. That and I just want my reptilian fluff ball.

      • One, the rival doesn’t have to hate out guts, I much prefer a rival who changes and progresses, makes them human. Plus, with Nintendo’s focus on friends, I doubt we’ll get that again.
Plus, having no more Fairies will be kinda bad, because having few moves and Pokemon won’t balance it out.
I will agree on diverse Megas and some new attacks.

        Reply
        • please i’m sick of happy sappy friendship *bleh*
i want a rival that makes your blood boil and want to maul him or her on sight because he’s such a bastard

          Reply
          • True, but I never really relate/identify with them. Silver was the exception because he changed and grew as a person. Like I said, I prefer change since it makes them human, makes them relateable, makes me think ‘I would like to know this person in the real world’
Having a bully for a rival isn’t fun, and they usually don’t learn something or change.
It makes me feel sorry for them, like real bullies.

    • It being set in South Kalos (as a new region for Gen VII), featuring Team Flare and a Zygarde storyline. Or at least deal with the zygarde stuff postgame. Just do something with Zygarde complete and Ash-Greninja.
A number of pokémon/megas no lower than XY, prefarably higher. If we could have the same amount of design quality and new concepts than XY, that would be awesome.
An actual meaty postgame (ORAS wasn’t bad, but the longer the better).
A dark type gym for once

      And here’s the wishful list
-A return of proper evolutions alongside megas.
-Getting to fight Serena/Calem like red back in GSC. Why this didn’t happen in B2W2 I have no idea.

I personally would like a Fire Lion and an Ice/Dark Wolf for the legends

    As for the starters.
Since the fire starters, are somewhat based on the chinese zodiac, Tiger or Ox for the fire starter

Water Starters are usually aquatic animal that don’t actually live in water
So Axolotl for the water starter

I can’t think of anything for grass..

      • Well, maybe for us to check how it is after some years, a la BW2? With extra post-game and all? Just a thought. I think that if it were to bring enough new things to the table, people would want it. Especially with all that has been left unanswered so far.

        Reply
  61. But man I gotta say if this is really the end of Kalos, there are so many questions left unanswered. I really do hope these next games have some relationship with Kalos in some way, whatever this new region is.

  62. Here is some information about Sun and Moon. This is a new generation of Pokemon, so bring on Generation 7 (could still be 6.5). It’s an entire new region (highly close to Kalos) with new Pokemon. This is unexpected for me, I thought the next region would be on the NX. GameFreak is seriously becoming unpredictable.

Also, that 3DS Game Release List rumor (for first-party titles) is actually legit. Pokemon Sun and Moon are known as “Niji” or Project Rainbow. With this information, I’m expecting the new region to be based on somewhere tropical; maybe Mexico, Brazil, or Spain. I’m going off of this from the tropical trees in that hotel-like area. It also looks like Red finally got down from Mt. Silver… lol. I think that might be Red, a new protagonist, or simply a placeholder. The trucks were carrying Furfrou, Wobbuffet, Machamp, and Blastoise. Maybe, we could see proper cars driving around the region (we did see trucks in B/W & OR/AS and taxis in X/Y). Lastly, we got to see the Pokemon Centers and what I believe to be the starting town. This is all just speculation from the Direct, so nothing new if anyone stated it.

      • I post the images again from the HD video. You could see the rooms more clearly. You might have not refreshed, but I edited my comment. I believe this region will be based on Spain and it will be near Kalos (since Kalos is based on France). We might be able to travel to the Kalos Region in this game. I seriously cannot wait for more info on these titles! 😀

          • True, it could be something else, but I think so because it’s both are surrounded by Pokemon Center images (at least I think so from what I’ve seen around it) so it makes sense. We’ll hopefully know for sure soon.

          • It feels like the brown booth could be in a different location. Perhaps it’s in a mall which, assuming that it is actually a cafe would make sense?

    • I really these images. So clearrrr! Maybe the region is based on Hawaii.
In Hawaiian mythology, Kāne is considered the highest of the four major Hawaiian deities. He represented the god of procreation and was worshipped as ancestor of chiefs and commoners. Kāne is the creator and gives life associated with dawn, sun and sky.
“Kane took a special magical white clay and formed it into a head. Then the three Gods breathed life into the statue and created the first man. The first man was created in the image of Kane.”(Remember the strange souvenir? doesn’t it look like a tiki statue?)
Also I believe there’s a goddess of the moon as well. I didn’t find this information, I saw this on twitter 😛

          • Eventually it just becomes second nature, if you come back often enough. I started commenting here in 2013 and now I’m stuck here forever. 😛 We just really, really, really like Pokemon, that’s the main thing.

          • I started following the site back when BW was announced but I was never sure if I should try and add my opinion and then after XY came, it somehow got worse cause I still haven’t played any game on the 3ds (no money) and I always felt a bit out of place commenting on XY and ORAS without any actual experience with the games 🙁 I’ve read a lot about them all tho and I played as many roms as I could with the new Pokémon. Then the rumors started and PJ sprung back to life again and I figured… well, I’d have nothing to lose? And now I’m here. Because yes I do really really love Pokémon.

  78. When I saw the trailer today I bursted into tears while in class. It was terrible. But I enjoyed every second of it, even if I was being judged.

Now let’s hop aboard that hype train, on a one way stop to Holiday 2016!

And let’s not forget, Pokèmon Day is still tomorrow!

    • What an amazing 20th Anniversary this is turning out to be. I haven’t seen any company go this in-depth…well, ever. Capping off a month of retro celebration with a brand new Pokemon generation? None of us would have believed it could actually happen.

          • Agreed! With every game now they’ve hyped them up to the point where millions of people are hyped. It’s wonderful. I have no doubt that these games are going to sell wonderfully.

  79. Don’t know if anyone brought this up yet, but I thought the picture on the far right was a bit weird. Anyone know what it is? (I could just be over analyzing it. It’s just how I am.)

*Your favorite Pokemon partner (Starter or any pokemon on your team)

    • My story began when I was a mere child who received Pokemon Red. And I remember trying to beat Brock solely with Charmander since I never learned how to level, catch Pokemon, or type effectiveness

I cannot remember if I ever beat him or not, then i stopped for a year or so never really making it too far until one day I was wandering the supermarket and I saw some kid playing a gameboy with the official strategy guide for Pokemon, then I realized I had the same book and figured I COULD USE IT TOO, so I started Red (or Blue I think I lost the original) and chose Squirtle solely to beat Brock. Then I finally learnt how to catch stuff and level, I was on a role and even managed to catch all three legendary birds, I was just about start the elite four, but…. We were visiting my aunt in Queens…. I found her nice big comfy armchair in the back room to start… I started the game and what I saw mortified me

      New Game…

I read your story over a few times, and it invoked a feeling of sympathy in me, i lost a ton of pokemon i transferred over to XD from emerald, at that point, i just lost too much, so i restarted emerald and beat in in an hour.

Since you won the code, i will need a place to privately provide it.

You may provide an email or i may give you my skype, but only if you cannot provide an email.

    • My first memory with Generation 1 was with Pokemon Yellow on my cousin’s Gameboy Color. Since I was really little and didn’t get the whole idea of using other Pokemon, I only used mostly Pikachu throught the whole thing.

My proudest moment had to be beating The Elite Four. Using my severely Beefed Pikachu I managed to get all the way to the final fight with Blue and after several attempts, I finally beat him. While Yellow wasn’t my first Pokemon game, it certainly holds a special place in my heart.

I remember battling my uncle because he was the only other person I knew with a gen 1 game. I didn’t win, but I fondly remember the battles I had with him.

I’m more of a completionist. I prefer completing the fez than battling, but I don’t mind fighting another trainer.

    • Pokemon Yellow: the game that started my Pokémon career.

Since I’m only 15 (3/4), I have very vivid memories of playing the game as a child, but the memories I do have I hold near and dear to my heart.

I had seen the anime around the same time I got Yellow, and I used to think Ash was super cool having Pikachu as a best friend just walking around with him outside of a Pokéball. Yellow was my opportunity to be just like Ash, my childhood hero to say the least. Needless to say that Pikachu quickly became my favorite Pokémon.

I spent countless hours on all of the routes before Viridian Forest training my Pikachu, because as a 5 year-old at the time I got Yellow, I was very frustrated trying to defeat Brock with just a Pikachu. While training in Viridian Forest, I came across a Pidgeotto. I was blown away by how cool it looked, so I tried to catch it immediately. I was in awe of my new friend. Level 8, Gust, cool-looking, exactly what I needed to finally beat Brock.

Unfortunately, young Licks was only smart in certain situations.

I went into the Pewter Gym with a level 23 Pikachu and level 8 Pidgeotto, fresh out of Viridian Forest. Brock was still a force to be reckoned with. After many consecutive turns not realizing that Electric-Type moves had no effect on Onix, I switched into Pidgeotto. Gust after Gust after Gust, I finally beat Brock.

Through my triumph as a young, not quite intellectual Pokémon trainer in Pokémon Yellow, I have played every Pokémon game since and have even developed the name “Gust/GustingWind” as an Internet gamer tag due to this fond memory of mine. With this I have met so many friends through battling, trading, and collecting Pokémon.

Without Pokémon Yellow and the games to come, I’m not sure I would still be in this world today. They have helped me through unimaginably tough times in my life, and they have my eternal love and gratitude. I owe them my life. I wish this series the best as we continue to grow up together.

    • *Red of course. When these games came out in The Netherlands (which is where I live), my parents got Blue for my brother. I was only 2,5 years old at the time (1999). I didn’t get anything, because of course I didn’t sprak English. But it didn’t matter to me and my brother: he introduced me to the game and we played it together. Some time later my parents got me Red, so I could play by myself. From that moment my brother and I always played together and we always got both games, so we could find differences between them together. I think I wouldn’t be as close to my brother as I am right now without Pokemon bringing us together.

*My favorite Pokemon partner was, of course, my starter: Charizard. I beat every single Pokemon with that one. By the time I reached Victory Road, he was like lvl 55 and the rest of my team was 25-30. I didn’t care about my other Pokemon back then; I was too obsessed with the power of Charizard (also I had no idea how to train Pokemon and what was important in order to complete the game; just wanted to battle with my starter).

*Well, as I said, I only battled with my starter. So I was really proud when I beat my first gym, because oh my god it was so hard using just a charmander.

*I mentioned my personal story in the first paragraph. I also remember a video my parents recorded of me and my brother in the back of the car playing on our purple see-through GameBoys and just being obsessed by it. My parents call our names but we don’t respond at all. I always laugh when we watch old videos and this one comes up.

*I am a battler and a completionist. Last year was the first time I completed a national dex in my X-game. I had never done that before and I did not get why. So I tried it and traded and searched and finally I did it. Since then I will try to do that in every game from now on. I can’t wait to complete the national Dex in Sun or Moon!

I also have a funny story to tell. I remember my brother getting the game (well, he remembers and told me) and he starter to play. He spent a few hours in the player’s house, because he had no idea how to leave it. I had to laugh when he told me that.

I hope you enjoyed reading my stories. Hope I didn’t just ramble, because now that I look at it, it’s a lot of text…

  82. I’m sure you all remember Ken Sugimori’s interview regarding the theoretical “Generation 7” back in 2013. He said that, IF it were to happen, Game Freak would use simplistic Pokemon designs like those found in the first generation. Seeing how this game appears to be connected to Kanto somehow, I believe it. I can’t wait to see the simple and memorable designs that GF has cooked up. (I’m sure I’ll be bringing up this interview many times, especially before CoroCoro leaks)

  83. Oh my Jesus Christ! The supposedly new bird Pokemon looks adorable and could possibly be a Grass-type considering the leaf as a tail. The Pokemon Center’s new design looks simply amazing, the large white and blue mansion building could be a Water-type gym or a university/school specializing in the Water-type and might be a niche for this generation to have a university representing the core types (Grass, Fire, and Water) or, as I said before, it could just be a gym. The emphasis on vehicles leads me to believe not only will we travel using these vehicles, the red one seems reminiscent to that of a Pokemon center and might be a mobile Pokemon center! So far, the world building, from what we’ve seen looks truly stunning! Cannot wait to get more information! Also, if you look closely, they some of the new Pokemon and more buildings.

    • Don’t worry, the bird Pokemon is absolutely new. It’s not Fletchling like many people think, a simple comparison confirms that. I’m expecting a Grass/Flying hummingbird Pokemon myself.

          • A woodpecker that goes from being Normal/Flying to Fighting/Flying would be awesome! I mean, the beak could be its main weapon/defense and certain species of woodpeckers are known for being territorial and aggressive towards other animals AND their own kind.

          • Staraptor, Talonflame, and Pidgeot take the cake for being the best regional birds. I’ve yet to completely use a Talonflame (I’ve used a Flechling & Fletchinder but always replaced it with another Flying-Type), so I planned a team with one to see it’s potential.

  84. I’ve a feeling they purposely held back some designs in gen6 so they had some already for gen7 plus tons more obviously. From the direct alone we can see there’s TONS of details in the Games from the architecture to the really small details like proper full 3d vehicles unlike the smaller role in XY. We can even see Pokémon such as blastoise in the back of some ( Fire Truck ) !

  85. My only question right now is, when will they choose to reveal starters, box legendaries, things like that? It seems odd to me that neither of those were included. I personally hope they return to the silhouette system to generate the most hype. I bet CoroCoro will be heavily involved in revealing them over the next couple months, as well. Remember how they officially revealed Xerneas and Yveltal in the January 2013 CoroCoro, right after the games were announced? The same thing will probably happen next month.

    Reply
    • They did this for OR/AS. Yet, I’m surprised that they did not show the box legendaries. We’re highly going to get more information in the March CoroCoro and E3. I seriously want to just see the improved graphics of this game.

      Reply
      • I’m thinking they want to save everything for E3 and other gaming conventions. Word of mouth will mainly be the driving force for the games until E3 but by then, we’ll have enough momentum from CoroCoro leaks. They could also do a social media campaign… they ARE definitely starting to utilize social media to advocate their brand further.

        Reply
        • This E3 is going to be absolutely stellar, and that’s only considering what we know will be there. Pokemon Sun and Moon, Zelda Wii U and the reveal of Nintendo’s next hardware. There will definitely be some revolutionary launch titles shown for the NX as well. That goes without mentioning the other “major 3DS titles” that will release this year. As fans, we deserve this year to be great after the overall mediocre showing in 2015.

      • I remember being in a cramped hotel in England when I saw the June 2013 leaks for the first time. It blew my mind, because I always wanted a lion Pokemon. Soon after that we spent a few days in Paris, and I vowed to collect inspiration from the environment to see what would work well in a Paris-inspired Pokemon region. I ended up with nothing, of course, but it was so cool to be in the area of the world where Game Freak was drawing inspiration from. Oh memories…hopefully Sun and Moon create many new ones.

        • Yeah I remember getting through Freshman year because of Corocoro leaks 😛
Anyways, the fact that there was (really) nothing revealed in the February Corocoro (released in January) indicates that everything for that month was shown in the initial trailer. With that said, since we only had the titles released, I think it’s safe to say that we’ll get more news in next month’s Corocoro! 🙂

Honestly it felt like they were showing clips of me as a child all the way up to my adulthood now. Jesus I love them for that.

1996->2013 count was epic and the seconds pause of the announcement of 2016 had me in near tears of joy.

    • Maybe Sun/Moon will be a deeper look into the ecology of the Pokemon world and being an environmentally focused project? Considering current real-world adversities and how GameFreak has always drawn inspiration from real-world events to in-vigor villainous teams, it would not be surprising.

      Reply
      • Given the description of Zygarde as an ecological sort of Rayquaza -as in someone who comes to fix things out of balance with the environment before opposing forces wreck the world – I do think that something along this line will happen but I’m not sure how that could happen? I think a Team Magma/Aqua arrangement could work but would they go down that road again?

        Reply
          • Exactly! It’s why I’m thinking of Hati and Skoll who are represented wanting to eat the Sun and the Moon. I think it’d be very GF-like to show them being Guardians of them instead and the teams wanting to use their powers a la Kyogre/Groudon.

          • That would be awesome! I certainly hope they don’t just go with an XYZ theme but instead focus on the Norse inspirations.

          • Here’s hoping! 😀 I still want to be surprised and I’m sure I will but this sounds like something that could work nicely – even if not that innovative.

    • When the leaks broke out yesterday, I thought of how flowers follow the sun and the moon to stimulate growth during the day/night. It’s probably nothing, but it’s worth thinking about. His cryptic hint may not have meant any more than that.

      Reply
      • True, we ought to consider it might really have been just a hint. I can’t help but try to read more out of it tho. Like, maybe the cities will be named after flowers since people are considering a tropical region? Kalos was devastated in the past so maybe they’ll show us a region that’s still blooming and we have to save it before it meets a similar fate?

        Reply
    • This probably has nothing to do with it, but flowers bloom based on the length of the night/day. Some plants have flowers that bloom with long nights/short days, others with short nights/long days. I think there’s some exceptions, but that’s generally the case 😀

  93. Remember when Junichi said that Pokémon Sun + Moon would take all of what Pokemon’s offered so far and combinemake use of it into the new games…. Well

Both the Sun + Moon control different things.
    Sun – Seasons
    Moon – Tides
Then we have Lunar and Solar eclipse’s.

But then we have the Moon affecting Tides and gravity causing lanj and sea conflicts.

The Sun+ Moon affects Seasons So this could mean that Pokémon Sun could have a much heavier focus on the Spring and Summer Seasons . While Pokémon Moon is heavily focused on Autumn and Winter.

I have a BIG FEELING that lunar and Solar eclipses will play a part in the story. Causing the Sun to be blocked out or the Moon being blocked out can be devastating for the ecosystem if done for a prolonged period of time.

          • Yeah I knew that, but wouldn’t abilities be added onto a Pokemon upon transferring from R/B to S/M? And my guess as to why no one uses Fissure Machamp is that it’s illegal, since it’s only available in Gen I and you are unable to transfer Pokemon from Gen I to the lastest games up until this point

          • Yup, read it off Bulbapedia haha but yeah it’s likely they’ll change how No Guard works in Sun and Moon. Unless they forget.. *cough* Steel Wing Elgyem

And I feel it would be a step backward to focus on Japan and not worldwide. There was a tribute in XY at the credits that showed how connected we are. I feel it would go back on that, in a way. I understand focusing on a domestic audience, but I feel they can do that without focusing back on Japan in the new region/mythology.

The one in the foreground is furfrou, the one behind it is Wobbuffet, but what’s the tall pokemon? It kinda looks like either Hawlucha (possible Hawlucha evo, I’m 99% certain Hawlucha itself is too short) or Machoke/Machamp.

      • Yeah, surreal describes the whole Gen 7 situation for me. All of this came out of nowhere two days ago. Crazy how quick things can change.

I wonder what they choose for the mascotts to be. Sooooo hyped! I want to seeeeee them. Hate freaking waiting.

  116. about the connection of Pokemon RGBY and Bank… how do you think they will resolve the natures, IVs, abilities… ? I was wondering that Sun and Moon will have a mini-game or safari to re-catch them (only for the ones coming from these games), like the DreamWorld Pokemon.

I wouldn’t like the stats to be random, with no option to use syncronize pokemon to get one specific nature… :/

  117. Hey guys, since you can transfer from RGBY to SM, do you think transfering Pokémon from G1 games can unlock something there?

(Thanks to CloneWarrior from With the Will to think of this possibility)

  119. Lol what if the is an in game theory that pokemon game from space and inhabited the earth and bred with the animals or adjusted to be like humans, like Gothitelle, Alakazam, Mr. Mime, June, which is why there’s classifications such as mouse and celestial pokemon and stuff and SM focuses on what Gen 1 was wondering. Where the heck did they come from?

Has anyone else downloaded one (or more) of the Virtual Console games? I am currently playing Blue (with my original Blue cartridge on my bedside cabinet). It was the very first Pokemon game I ever played and i havent looked back since!

  122. Look:
The plaques with rainbows are used in Hawaii. But the pokemon truck has the same plaque. And…pokemon rainbow, you know.
Take a look at Hawaiian fire trucks…They are yellow!!
Hawaii has the Rainbow falls where you can see rainbows. Here lives the goddess of the moon, which has a son that has managed to tame the sun!!!
Too many coincidences. Hawaii Region confirmed!!

    • I subscribe to the theory that Sun and Moon’s region will be based off Hawaii. I think that’s a fantastic idea as well. Hoenn 2.0, here we go!

    • Rainbow was just a codename, just as ‘Caviar F’, ‘Torte City’, ‘Cadillac’ are codenames of upcoming Nintendo games. They may have to do with fish or cars, but they are no indication to the games itself.

  123. I think my only problem with Gen 7 coming this year is that it won’t b on the NX or whatever the next handheld is.With this we are basically doomed to use the 3DS for another 3 years unless they do something out of the ordinary. I suppose they could break their patterns and have the next game come out on the next handheld, but still b a gen 7 game. I kind of hoe they do that…..

    Reply
    • They will probably do an NX game in 2018, which is a fine time by me. I can see them doing Z/Eclipse on the NX in 2017, seeing as Nintendo can certainly use the boost in hardware sales. But it’s a bit of a tradeoff for install base versus hardware sales, sometimes it’s better to have a large install base to sell many games for, but the only way to reach a large install base is by selling good games. I hope they realise that Splatoon helped boosting sales and a third version Pokémon game could certainly do so too.

      • I just think they’ve put themselves in a weird spot as far as releasing games go. If we were getting Z or whatever then it would have been fine, but now they have to b able to either extend the 3ds’ lifespan or split a generation between 2 handhelds, which is weird to do. To b honest I’ just ready for a Pokemon game that’s in HD. Is that too much to ask for? hahaha

        Reply
        • They won’t extend it any further than Sun and Moon. It will probably be the last major Nintendo published games on the handheld, to close of the handheld. I also believe the 20th anniversary is what made them do another generation so ‘soon’, otherwise I’d have expected from them to throttle back the releases. I think they know the yearly releases what they did with BW/BW2/XY/ORAS was causing franchise fatigue (lukewarm critical reception of ORAS and sales figure already showed this). So them holding out and putting SM on NX in 2017 could be a logical choice, but with splitting it up they could do something surprising/fresh, which has been what they are trying to do now.

I also believe that in their longterm roadmap the fact that the 3DS would be replaced much sooner than the DS wasn’t entirely accounted for, so they had to change up the schedule a couple of years ago.

    • Wow I guess that guy couldn’t handle it hahaha. I will say ur battle didn’t go quite as smoothly as the one from that video, but I think that’s partially bc ur opponent was a bit more aggressive. Either way I’m still certain it’s pretty cheap hahaha

    • The coloration though reminds me more of a Woodpecker then a red crested cardinal. mostly due to only the upper part of the head being red colored and the lower half being white. it kinda looks like a Pileated woodpecker but… those are native to north america. it could though if its a generalization of woodpeckers from the people at Game freak and nintendo.

    • I think it’s very interesting and makes sense from all we’ve seen and been given. 🙂 But, even if it ends up being somewhere else, I’ll enjoy it either way, since any place/country would be amazing in a Pokemon game.

      • True, but luckily in ORAS it was very manageable and I didn’t get lost in it, unlike the originals.
Maybe they won’t make so much surfing places and maybe use boats to connect the major islands?
