Trademark registrations have been apparently found, as well as logos, for two unannounced games: Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon! These were filed one day before the Pokémon Direct and beginning of the 20th anniversary in Japan.

UPD1: Numerous Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon websites have been registered by different subsidiaries of Nintendo. All of them direct back to Pokemon.com. Looks like we know what our next games are, maybe.
I’ll take anything I can get, but I seriously doubt that we’ll be getting Gen VII before a third Kalos game.

Honestly, in Pokémon SPECIAL, the third Kalos Pokédex was destroyed in a chapter released a few months ago. In that manga, the Pokédexes ALWAYS go to characters named after the games, and we know Kusaka has access to early information, so there were some people thinking there wouldn’t be a third game for some time.
But this is strange. Unless this is Gen 6.5, why suddenly not have a third game or sequels? Was Z actually being made at some point and then cancelled, or is GF just trying to break away from the pattern? Was Zygarde a red herring? Will there be a Pokémon Star? Pokémon Earth?

I really want to believe this, but SUN and MOON do not go with the whole Zygarde and Magearna aesthetic they’re proposing…even if it is a new generation, i really don’t think Sun and Moon would work. The only thing that works there is that it would be a gen 2 parallel

Don’t think it’s legit. These logos look too lazy — the background is basically the same only with different filters applied, the font resembles that of TCG expansions and the sun and moon symbols are just.. not harmonic?

And of course the trademarks would be applied today or tomorrow, due to the companies not wanting it to leak any earlier. The background of the Pokemon Moon/Sun logo. Loically speaking, Pokemon tends to trademark their TCG sets WAY before release as opposed to a new set of games. If they truly wanted this to be a huge, global announcement, they would have trademarked the names and logos surreptitiously. By trademarking the names and such, they have alleviated a certain amount of hype and consequently brought down the level of hype a few notches.

Plus, this could be a PR stunt because Pokemon IS known for trademarking potential game names in fear of others using them for Fakemon games and such.
I’m curious as to when these names were trademarked. If they were trademarked very recently then I’d have to say I highly doubt these are what tomorrow is going to b about. Usually they Trademark at the very least months in advance before any hints at the name being actually used. I guess we shall have to see. I don’t think that these won’t eventually become games, but I’m not sure I see in the cards for this year. I could be wrong however. lol

Has anybody checked any gaming stores? My local gamestop usually tells me tey have holding spots in their systems for new games that are being announced within days, and when oras was announced, they had pokemon placeholders the day corocoro leaked

If you click on the info button the individual trademark pages it opens up further details about them. Mostly a large wall of text, but these are definitely games of the video persuasion. The first paragraph talks about it being for a video game apparatus and ROM. So these are definitely video game trademarks at the very least.

Mega Evolution is a feature that is going to stay. There is a split timeline in the Pokemon Universe where Mega Evolution was discovered. Plus, a lot of people typically enjoy that feature, so I do not see them dumping it. Similar to Pokemon Origins, that do not need to add all of the lore. Just simply giving a Mega Stone to the protagonist is good enough.

I don’t think so. Feels almost like there are going to be another 2 Core, for Sun and Moon. The games then maybe have Kalos and whatever the other region is and you the Cells are present across both regions.

This is most definitely the GSC game to XY’s Red and Blue. There are so many hints about the sundial in Kalos and references to the sun and moon in the game. Whether you wanna call it Gen 6.5 or 7, that’s what it’s gonna be. Soooooooooooooo hype!

Oh damn, I remember you from like the super old school days. I was ookarus a long time ago.
I wonder if some people still know me… Anyway, I’ve been very busy with school stuff and doing my best to become an engineer. I decided to change my mind and reschool as a power engineer, so I still have some extra years before me until I start working. But my grades are excellent and my life couldn’t be more wonderful.
Except that I have very little time for anything else and had to put my Zelda and Pokémon love on the backburner. But I saw the announcement and I’m getting excited again. A new generation means a new rumour season coming up.
On Sun and Moon, I can say that they are doing a great job with keeping up the surprises. I think hardly anyone predicted these names and I suspect that they have a lot more in store for us. If Zelda U comes along for the Wii U /NX this may very well be my most memorable year in gaming history. I’ll be gladly keeping up with the news and try to have internet access when the direct hits.

Wow, I’m in my second year in college and I’ve got time to play my xbox on a consistent basis. Not sure if my study habits are weak or what lol. University has to be somewhat different in Europe though, to some degree. I should be studying for my exam tomorrow… Hmmmm.

When you’re studying one of the hardest degrees at one of the hardest universities of the country in one of the hardest countries in Europe, you know you get it rough.
The actual thing is though that through the day I’m constantly busy with classes and building relationships with friends and when I get back at dorm I prefer to study rather than spend time on my consoles. But once this summer hits, I’m going to get back in my games and finish my backlog. I still have time to play Zelda and Pokémon, but ORAS was so lackluster I needed a break.
Trueee. I started as an engineering major, and after my first year I dropped it and changed LOL. I’ve got a lot of respect for all engineering majors… it’s hard.
It is hard, yet so rewarding. But I understand if you give up on it, my first year I struggled a lot too. You basically have to give up your life to be able to move on.
I mean it’s not that I couldn’t do the work, it’s that I wasn’t enjoying it. I wasn’t having fun doing the work. And you know how expensive higher education is, so I didn’t want to get a degree in something I didn’t like.

Power engineering does contain wind turbine engineering, but it’s much more than. Esssentialy you can design everything from a power plant, so the electric cabeling, the transformers, the power electronics, turbines, heat transfer, flow rate in tubes but also renewable energies like solar, wind and hydro. It has voltages that can go up to 3000 times the voltage that comes out of your plug. It’s really fun and really hard, but it took me a while to realise it’s what I really wanted to do.
Me and my lover is a more complex story than I will ever be able to and want to write on this blog, but I can tell I’m happy with how it is now.

Hey guys, in the games there was something about the blue pentagon (the Kalos marking) that indicated there was only one or two more G6 games, anyone remembers what it was?
YES! Love the concept & logos.
My guess is it will be Gen 7 and all new Pokemon cause they look and for the criteria of main stream games. All remakes or sequel games have alluded to their predecessor FireRed and LeafGreen, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Black2 and White2. If it were a sequel to X or Y it would be called Z or X2 and Y2 or at least have some reference to the past titles. Sun and Moon stand completely on their own much like past main series entries like Ruby and Sapphire, Diamond and Pearl, Black and White or well you know X and Y. That being said like many have stated it could be like Gen 2/Johto was to Kanto and connected to Kalos. So after finalizing your journey in the new region you can revisit and updated Kalos region with the new Zygarde forms and plot line. Collect the badges there, explore new areas and changes to old ones etc. As we all know aside from Mega Evolutions the amount of new Pokemon introduced in 6 were weak. So even 100 or so new ones would be nice if it is in fact a continuation to Gen 6 like Gold & Silver were to Gen 1, but I’m hoping for at least 120 new Pokemon. It is the 20th anniversary after all. As for Mega Evolutions which I have no doubt will be back they still haven’t explored any Mega Evolutions in Gen 5 or 6 so I would love to see that! Giving the Kalos starters all Mega Evolutions would be the cherry on top of a return back to Kalos. Also introduce more rounded less femine Fairy-types and more unexplored type combinations like Fairy/Fighting, Fire/Poison, Electric/Dark, etc. And if we don’t get a water dolphin starter or wild Pokemon in this game I will be very sad. It could be water/fairy or water/psychic typing not to mention think of how cute it would be. I just hope they bring character customization back but if it is indeed connect or closely related to the Kalos region I say the chances are rather high. To not include the feature would be a step backwards at this rate. I’m so excited!

As for the article itself, it fails to point out several key factors: even if the twitter account utilized to disseminate knowledge concerning Pokemon Sun and Moon is fake, that does not negate the reality of the trademarks being official. Those who claim that the games are not going to occur or materialize are either basing it off of tradition which can easily be broken or initial knowledge concerning how Pokemon/Nintendo often trademarks and copyrights Pokemon games such as Brown, Amethyst, etc… However, none of those games had logos affiliated with them nor were they trademarked a day before a huge Pokemon announcement was due which adds more to the credibility of Pokemon Sun and Moon. Honestly, at this point, anything can happen but the matter of fact is: NEW MAIN SERIES TITLES ARE GOING TO BE ANNOUNCED and that is all that matters after the drought of Pokemon in 2015.
The trademarks are still real. There going to show off a new game tomorrow. Companies (especially gaming ones) trademark the names of the games a day or a week before they announce it. The fake twitter is just confirming what is already real!

I expect Pokemon Sun/Moon to have a marketing campaign primarily focusing on regaining back lost fans and reigniting the simplicity yet heartwarming characteristics Pokemon is known for. That is a weapon that not many have in their arsenal… 20 years?! 20 FREAKING YEARS?! The longevity and legacy of Pokemon is astonishing and to think that the latest releases have amassed over 20 million copies worldwide is insane! Although Pokemon may be struggling in certain markets, growing markets such as China, Korea, and many more have yet to truly delve into the awe-inspiring Pokemon experience and if Pokemon/Nintendo play their cards correctly and their marketing campaign is as good as what it was for Platinum and Black/White, expect these two games to shatter Pokemon records.

Still like the Shinto stuff most.

I’m predicting that the legendaries for Pokemon Sun and Moon would be Fire/Psychic and Dark/Fairy (or Dark/Rock). I’m guessing that the teaser would be similar to X/Y’s in style. There highly just going to chat about Pokemon’s history, then reveal the next mainline games and have them release in the fall.
Dark/Fairy sounds nice but Fire/Psychic doesn’t really make sense considering the Sun and Moon Pokemon will probably be deities who created or ARE the Sun and Moon of the Pokemon world respectively. Who knows though… lol!

Dark/Fairy type legendary sounds awesome. I wonder what mythological creature they could base it off of?
~ The Sun Pokemon and Moon Pokemon are the mascots of Pokemon Sun/Moon and because the Zygarde cores need sunlight and all the things a normal plant would need to survive, the antagonistic group’s main goal is to capture either the Sun or Moon Pokemon and thus, Kalos or S. Kalos enters a period of chaos and the ecology suffers and such. By capturing the Sun/Moon Pokemon, the antagonistic group plans to make Zygarde appear and use its energy to power the Ultimate Weapon or something similar to that. As Kalos begins to deteriorate, Zygarde has no choice but release its true powers and save Kalos from total destruction. It would make sense considering the Sun and Moon are in a somewhat symbiotic relationship: without the Sun Pokemon, eternal darkness would kill life and without the Moon Pokemon, eternal sunlight would kill life. That would be the perfect way for Zygarde to be tied into the story considering how Zygarde is immensely important to the environment and its ‘Dex entry does state that when the environment is in grave danger, it will show its true power.
Can I call Team Solar and Team Lunar already? I want the dual team thing back.

To those skeptical about this, there’s no reason to. The names Pokemon Sun and Moon, along with the logo, have been registered multiple times across different regions. Additionally, the websites pokemon-sun.com and pokemon-moon.com all redirect to the main Pokémon website. Yes, websites have been created for games that never existed, and names such as Pokémon Gray/Grey have been filed, but never used.
However, we have an interesting case that ALL of this is happening within a 24 hour time period, the day BEFORE the Pokémon direct.
Second, assuming there is a Moon legendary Pokémon, I OFFICIALLY DECLARE AS OF THIS MOMENT, that if the Pokémon has any “feminine” traits or design, the nickname “Yue” for it started with ME.
And lastly, an Eclipse Pokémon would be AMAZING. It sounds soo cool!!!

As many of us have pointed out, this could possibly be a new region akin to the relationship between Kanto and Johto. It would begin the seventh generation but also tie into generation 6 OR it could be apart of generation 6 but instead of releasing a sequel, GameFreak has decided to do something totally different.
I would love that so much. It could explain why it took them so long to announce it. Making a whole new region plus half of another one takes extra work

As I said before, Sun/Moon is the best possible way GameFreak could have tied Z into this. I mean, the idea that Zygarde only shows its true power when the environment is in a dire situation makes perfect sense when the Sun/Moon come into the equation. No sun or no moon equates to no life. We should have seen it coming but were too rapt in Pokemon Z.

Well if Dark Type had existed, perhaps some of those ground types would’ve been reclassified. As cool as Nidoking is, I don’t see how it’s much of a ground type. There also might have been other pokemon not in R/B/G that would’ve been dark types. It makes sense because it’s “evil” type in Japan and he’s the only evil gym leader that there has ever been. However, from todays standpoints, I don’t think the “evil” connotation exists with dark types any more, even if that’s what they’re still called.

Could we be going to a new region then back to Kalos? As I’m writing this, I’m thinking of Heartgold and Soulsilver, but even if we visited two regions, we knew about Kanto and Johto before Gen IV.
It’s so hard to determine. I’m gonna go with a 7.6.5, based off of Shauna’s reference and the Strange Souvenir. They say Zygarde Core in the anime draws in sunlight for strength in the anime. It’ll be interesting to see Zygarde and it’s formes tie in to the games and if it will play some kind of role aside from the mascots. I think this is going to Johto like experience. New region, then return to Kalos post-game with more. Kalos was dull as hell. So linear.
I think a Dragon/Fairy pokemon would be cool. (If they’re adding new pokemon, that is)

The color matching to Zygarde’s stone thingies on its chest is quite accurate, and defintely adds some credibility to the names of the games and colors.

I’ve been here since before Black and White. What I’ve learned is that every generational cycle, people come and go. I miss a lot of my friends back in the BW days, haven’t talked to them in years. Same will happen in this cycle. I’m just glad a lot of people decided to stick around again. This generation is going to be a lot of fun.

Gen 4 remake when
You know I live for a Gen 4 remake! XD
I love gen 4 and all because I grew up with it, but I mostly want a remake because of the updated music. I love jazz so much and Id love to hear Sinnoh’s jazz music remixed.
I remember when I got my first Pokemon game, I was at Wal-Mart and two games faced me: Platinum and Heartgold/SoulSilver. I asked the lady if she could take out Platinum and she told me, “You know that’s the old one, right? These two,” she said, pointing at HeartGold/SoulSilver, “Are the newest ones.” I smiled and nodded. “I know.” I told her and went home with Pokemon Platinum. In an instant, I fell in love with the world of Pokemon and Sinnoh. I loved the culture, the aesthetics, the challenges, and the learning experience. I can probably ascribe my love of learning and reading to Pokemon. I would go home each day and play Pokemon even though I was in first grade and reading had been a problem for me. I cannot describe the amount of impact Pokemon has had on me and I don’t think I’ll ever “grow out of it.” It’s one of those things that once you develop a love for, can never go away. It’s ingrained in your head and memories. It made up your memories and because of that, Pokemon will always hold a special place in my heart: especially Sinnoh!
I played Red but my pokemon adventure really started with Soul Silver. I love the region, the pokemon, the mythos. Johto is great. Sinnoh was just as amazing when I got platinum afterwards. I just love these games
I started my Pokemon adventure waaaay back in third grade (I’m a sophomore now) with Diamond version. Looking, back it’s not the perfect game (slowdown, glitches, ect.) but it still holds a place in my heart. Every time I hear twinleaf town or heck any town’s theme I tear up a bit.

Anyone notice Magearna has a blue orange section on her upper body? Coincidence? I think not…
Hopefully the legendaries aren’t two new forms of Zygarde! ( or look like Magearna and Diancie). Personally, a Solar Peacock with sun like tail feathers and a lunar wolf would be cool.
A new region based on UK would be exciting… ( I live here, imagine a Pokemon version of London, Oxford and Edinburgh!!!) But somewhere like Italy or Greece would also be cool. I have a feeling, if an extension of XY’ it must be a European country.
Alternatively, given the whole story 3000 years ago with AZ, Azoth, the flower like ultimate weapon and the other unexplained mysteries of XY, it could be ancient Kalos. Which would make sense, if they’re trying to do something new.

They had plenty of time to finish it. Gen 2 was supposed to be Gen 1.5 as a sequel so I’m guessing this will be Gen 7 but technically Gen 6.5 since Kalos has fed off of Gen 1 so much.
So little has happened today and it’s been real alive I wonder how busy tomorrow will be. I’m not gonna lie I’m very excited I just hope I’m not disappointed.

I think it’s the fact that nobody was expecting something that strayed too far away from the whole X2/Y2/Z/AZ set of options that this comes as such a surprise. I’m not doubting the information, as its been trademarked and there are logos, but it is quite a surprise.
We need to consider that The Pokemon Company has filed false trademarks before (Brown, Delta Emerald) but these are the first with actual logos. It’s possible that they were trademarked a day before to throw us off for tomorrow’s announcement, but I am fairly confident this is what we’re getting.

Listen to me people!!!! This Pokemon sun and Pokemon moon are just johto remakes…… But it can’t be the 7 generation without a Pokemon z game.
It’d make more sense if they were Kanto or Sinnoh remakes..and they can’t be.
There’s really no logical reason why there would be another Johto remake (Heartgold and Soulsilver) and Junichi Masuda already stated last year that Pokemon Z would not be the next game, as they’re “always looking for ways to surprise people.” 🙂
There will NOT be a Pokemon Z, plain and simple. The notion that every generation comes with a third game has been thrown out the window since BW2. The old rules don’t apply anymore. GameFreak has stated AGAIN and AGAIN that they’re trying to be unpredictable. Z is the most predictable thing ever. They threw a curveball with BW2. I plan for them to do the same this generation, and this time it’s Pokemon Sun and Moon.
People really need to sit down and consider how closely XY and RB parallel each other. The forest at the beginning of the game are PARALLELS. You get the Kanto starters very early in the game. And so much more. GF has also said that they wanted to bring back the OLDER generation Pokemon fans, the ones that grew up with Pokemon RB, XY did that very effectively. Thus, it makes sense to go straight to Pokemon Sun and Moon. Direct sequels(maybe not story wise but in terms of release timing) to XY. These games are effectively the new Gold and Silver.
Pokemon Sun and Moon WILL bring a new story, region, pokemon, etc. BUT PEOPLE ARE MISSING THE FACT that YES, THE STORY OF KALOS SEEMS UNFINISHED. AND IT IS. BUT, that will be addressed in Pokemon Sun and Moon.
What they did was very clever. They intentionally left the story unfinished, that way there is stuff for us to do when we GO BACK to Kalos after, presumably, the new region part of the story is complete.
This new game IS in some form Pokemon Z. But it is also a new generation. It’s literally a hybrid, that nobody saw coming. And from a logical perspective, aside from all the evidence that was given to us in the past 24 hours, makes this legit.

Exactly. So Gamefreak, if you decide to you REALLY feel the need to take us back to Kanto or Sinnoh in the future…make it a new story, a new experience, something fresh and different. ORAS was beautiful and it’s definitely top 3 games for me but it’s just not quite as fun when you know pretty much exactly what’s coming next. Signed, a loyal fan.
The once exception that I have would be Diamond and Pearl. I think it’d be fair, since people like me got what they asked for with ORAS. (hoenn best region). But after that, if the technology is advanced enough, I would like them to make multi-region games the standard. I’m tired of leveling up to level 50 and completing the game. Give me an incentive to level up to 100, and that can definitely be done by adding another region, to the games.
Yeah I love the expansive post game Gen 2/HG&SS gave us but the level grinding was friggen terrible. Make me want to be the best! 😛

I disagree. One of the most appealing Pokemon interest is in exploring a new region and new landscapes, discover new people and pokemon, train pokemon through exploration, but they have to make it more intense and deep. Last games were a bit annoying with no flavor in traveling through the region. They could really improve the different areas atmospheres, better think pokemon localisation considering environments, improve biotopes diversity and coherence (weather, day/night cycle …)
Yeah, just off the top of my head I’m thinking of third games like Emerald and Platinum which were indeed quite predictable and didn’t have major differences in the story. At least with two separate games, we might be able to explore Kalos through another kind of connection, and can be presented in a way that doesn’t just reuse what XY already put in place.
Your theory is interesting. I am excited about Sun and Moon being like Gold/silver after R/B, emphasizing day/night cycle, and the possible come back to Kalos after the Pokemon League (for example to get Zygarde cells all around the region…)

Ugh i said it right as it was announced, i think pokemon go is a horrendous idea that needs to be canceled.
They wouldn’t market it as ‘big news’ if it was about the release date for go, and we just got a PMD game, I doubt they would do another one so soon. Although, a Ranger game would be AMAZING 🙂
I played both ranger games and liked them both. I remember liking the first one better but its been awhile so im not sure anymore.
There’s actually three but the last one was before 5th gen, I believe.

Well if our speculation is correct and these are the “gold and silver” of kalos, then i’d wager 3ds, for the same reason b2w2 were on the ds. They will want to cater to those who played x and y, so putting it on the same system is a no-brainer.

I wonder what they can sneak in 5 minutes of Direct. That seems incredibly short if they wanna show:

* Release of Pokken Tournament on Wii
* Virtual Console releases reminder
* Trailer (hopefully not just teaser!) or Pokemon Sun/Moon/Z/whatever.
If they wanna pack in interviews of Game Freak employees, it’s gonna be a taller order than usual.

I just had to register here for discussion. I love the hype when the new game is about to be announced. My guess is we are getting Gold/Silver formula, which I’m more than happy to have. 2 regions have been my dream since Gold/Silver 🙂

Why do the symbols both look like solrock and lunatone? Is it just a coincidence or are we going to have creatures that look like them? If X and Y are any evidence, the Y and X in the name of the game actually looked like Xerneas and Yvetal.
