Great Detective Pikachu Released in Japan

The recently announced Great Detective Pikachu ~The New Duo~ was released in Japan on the Nintendo 3DS eShop today. According to master trainer Serebii, the game seemed to be about 5 hours long. It also left room for more adventures, possibly being released in an episodic fashion similar to other mobile narrative-based games seen on iOS and Android.

Gameplay revolves around looking for clues through talking with NPCs in the game and is fairly linear. You can catch a video of the game in action from TiLMENDOMiNATiON on YouTube. Unfortunately, this will be a title I pass on in order to save for a Pokémon Green 2DS bundle later this month.

What do you think? Does this new spin on Pokémon look like something that you’d enjoy? If it were aimed at a broader audience like Professor Layton or Phoenix Wright, I could definitely see it being an enjoyable spin-off title.

  1. I wouldn’t mind a Pokémon game that was as in depth as a Pheonix Wright game. I was expecting this game to be very long since it was what, about $10 on the eShop?

  3. There’s a rumor the Detective Pikachu game is going to be released in DLC episodes. Explains why it looks better than most 3DS games graphics wise and is only $10. Wouldn’t think they would’ve worked on it this long just for five hours of gameplay. I wouldn’t mind seeing those kinds of graphics in other pokemon games (cough main series cough)
