Free Newspaper for Pokémon: ORAS Music

To commemorate the upcoming 4starOrchestra, a quadrennial concert dedicated to video game music, Some folks in Japan received free newspapers with an interview with Game Freak staff responsible for music and sound in Pokémon.

Adachi: When I was told to arrange for ORAS, I was really nervous. A lot of people like Ruby and Sapphire.

Satou: A new game and an upgrade are totally different. In a new game you’re trying to show off the newest stuff in the best way possible. When it comes to remasters, you have to consider memories and feelings  that people have about it.

Ichinose: Well, for me, I knew either way that some people weren’t going to like what I did, so I just gave it all I had when writing.

Satou: Oh yeah, in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, you (Ichinose) were going nuts and doing your own little thing with remixes. What I consider the most when rearranging is to not change the key or tempo all too much. Also, I’ve noticed that people can be disappointed when the melody is intact but some phrases in the back are removed.

 

Other facts about the upcoming ORAS soundtrack:

  • Minako Adachi will be taking the lead in remixing for ORAS. In XY,  she composed the Team Flare/Lysandre battle theme, among other pieces.
  • Adachi says that the bicycle theme took the longest to remix, taking about 2 to 3 weeks. She explains that the concept of the bicycle has changed over the course of 12 years, and she was debating whether to stick with the original concept or go with the more modern concept.
  • Masuda checks all the music made in the sound room. He’s seen dancing with the volume high.
  • The sound staff aimed to keep what was good about the old music, while showing off some new things.  Upgrading from GBA to 3DS, the new remixes will be vibrant and colorful.

 

Any expectations for ORAS music? I’m personally can’t wait for Route 119!

  2. Not sure if this was discussed or posted here – but mega machamp is pretty much confirmed imo:

    In the latest issue of Famitsu, translated by Siliconera, an interview was held with the developers of the upcoming Arcade game, Pokkén Tournament. Not much new was given, but it stated that Mega Evolution will have a major factor in it, following the small cameo of Mega Lucario in the trailer released last week. It was also confirmed that the game is “approximately 30%” complete with the first demo run expected next year. Tsunekazu Ishihara, head of The Pokémon Company, also stated that he wishes for Pokkén Tournament to have a place at the Pokémon World Championships each year alongside the main series Pokémon games and the TCG. – serebii

  8. Mega Hydreigon needs an ability like Pixilate but for steel type moves. It was originally designed with the concept of tanks, it does learn Hyper Voice, and would really be helpful because the 4x weakness to steel.

    • “According to interviews with Ken Sugimori in Nintendo Dream, Hydreigon and its evolutionary family were originally intended to be cyborg dragons with aspects of tanks. The Pokémon were scrapped until late in development, when they were revived and remade to be based on Yamata no Orochi. The tank tread-like markings on Hydreigon’s body are a remnant of this design. Although Yamata no Orochi typically has eight heads in mythology, Hydreigon was designed with fewer heads to appear less confusing”

  14. May/Brendan need a HUGE team upgrade in ORAS

    not only did they only have the second stage of the starters, they have 2 water and 2 grass types ( not counting the starters) -_-

        • I’m so hyped for Smash as well, but I don’t think I will play it intensely until the New 3DS comes out. The better speed and better controls would really help out. I’ll still get a good…couple hundred hours in before I get serious though 😛

          • Same. xD I think I’m finally gonna take this chance to get the new 3ds xl. I’ve always had the regular size version. I feel like it’ll help with the graphics alot. Although I wish it was out by this holiday for us. 🙁

          • Are you also getting Wii U version? I got a wii u because of smash, but that wont keep me from getting other games. I already have like 5. xD

          • Oh yeah, you bet I will. I want that soundtrack from Club Nintendo! XD But seriously, that game looks beautiful and I will spend hours upon hours mastering that one as well. Also, the good thing about the New 3DS XL is that it has a similar control scheme to that of the Wii U Pro Controller (which will be my primary controller).

  25. I hate gamer YouTubers. They can mass produce videos daily because all they have to do is screen capture and slightly edit. The ad revenue must be INSANE. Then they b!tch about content ID and stuff, like shut up. :I Not saying I don’t watch any gaming YouTubers but, they have it made.
