To commemorate the upcoming 4starOrchestra, a quadrennial concert dedicated to video game music, Some folks in Japan received free newspapers with an interview with Game Freak staff responsible for music and sound in Pokémon.
below is a translation for the above pic:
Adachi: When I was told to arrange for ORAS, I was really nervous. A lot of people like Ruby and Sapphire.
Satou: A new game and an upgrade are totally different. In a new game you’re trying to show off the newest stuff in the best way possible. When it comes to remasters, you have to consider memories and feelings that people have about it.
Ichinose: Well, for me, I knew either way that some people weren’t going to like what I did, so I just gave it all I had when writing.
Satou: Oh yeah, in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, you (Ichinose) were going nuts and doing your own little thing with remixes. What I consider the most when rearranging is to not change the key or tempo all too much. Also, I’ve noticed that people can be disappointed when the melody is intact but some phrases in the back are removed.
Other facts about the upcoming ORAS soundtrack:
- Minako Adachi will be taking the lead in remixing for ORAS. In XY, she composed the Team Flare/Lysandre battle theme, among other pieces.
- Adachi says that the bicycle theme took the longest to remix, taking about 2 to 3 weeks. She explains that the concept of the bicycle has changed over the course of 12 years, and she was debating whether to stick with the original concept or go with the more modern concept.
- Masuda checks all the music made in the sound room. He’s seen dancing with the volume high.
- The sound staff aimed to keep what was good about the old music, while showing off some new things. Upgrading from GBA to 3DS, the new remixes will be vibrant and colorful.
Any expectations for ORAS music? I’m personally can’t wait for Route 119!

This is a definite possibility.
Take X and Y for example.
The hype was real.
Then a few days before launch.
“Oh sorry guys we’re gonna fck up your day by telling you there’s only 69 new Pokemon and no postgame herp derp”
Ya see? There’s a definite possibility that ORAS could be excellent in some areas and terrible in the other. How X and Y brang an innovative new twist to the series but ended up being pretty bad in all other senses.
I think it’s best we stay positive and hope for the best, because no matter what, every game has its flaws. 🙂
Hold up. I didn’t think X/Y was bad. I thought it was sweet. The only flaw it had was the Smaller Dex. Yet, it made up for it with more Pokemon in the region. Even tho it had a small postgame still you had more things to invest your time on. 😉

Black and White 2 did that nicely. The really expanded upon the main dex.
u got me there. it was interesting going through unova with old pokemon. it felt… weird
But I never said X and Y was bad. (Well, I kinda did).
I just think that the only exemplary thing that was introduced was the new battling style.
Everything else was just eh.

I think the graphics, music and quality was good. My only flaw was the smaller Kalos Dex. Obviously, it’s your opinion and I can’t change it but still. X/Y was super fun for me! So many team opportunities! 😀
Well.
The graphics were a huge improvement upon previous games, especially with the character models now being 3D, as well as the Pokemon models.
Some of the music was exceptionally good, such as Sycamore’s theme and Diantha’s theme, but others like the Gym and Elite 4 music was REALLY bad in my case. I’m not very big on techno (?) music.

And I did enjoy it as well, but I don’t think it FULLY lived up to the hype. But it was definitely awesome.
I don’t like the battle themes in XY at all. I like the overworld music 😀 It is SOOO much better 😀

I would understand your stance on the Gym Leader & Elite Four themes. You would love those themes if you enjoyed techno beats. I did so X/Y had some of my favorite Battle Themes. The base going low in the Gym Leader theme was fantastic!
