PJT ’14 – Tournament Format Update & Participant Confirmation

Don’t forget to check out our Corocoro updates here and here!

Much, much later than we wished to, we’re bringing our readers the penultimate update on the 2014 PokéJungle Tournament before the first battles commence. We’ve decided to make some changes to the format of the tournament to help with how it’ll run when we begin later this month.

PJT ’14 Format Changes

At the end of May we announced that our tournament would run over five rounds, with players earning points in each round and the top 8 players after all rounds proceeding to three elimination rounds, this has now changed.

The changes we’ve made have been done so to remove the pressure of having to be available for the entire period of the tournament. Players will now be placed into groups, in these groups every player will battle one another once. When all battles have been completed (and tie-breakers completed if necessary) the top player from each group will move forward into the elimination rounds.

Players will need to confirm participation below so we can finalise groups and group balancing before the start date of the tournament. Group stage battles will take place over the same dates as the Rounds were previously planned to take place, with a maximum of three groups battling at any time. All match-ups posted before now are to be ignored.

As it stands any drop outs will no longer be filled by stand-ins, until we announce otherwise.

We have also decided to push the tournament start date back. This is to allow participants time to confirm their entry (see below) and for us to finalise players in each group.

Lavender, Camphrier & Driftveil Group Battles – July 23 — July 27
 Canalave, Sunyshore & Cinnabar  Group Battles – July 28 — August 1
Ecruteak, Fallarbor & Lumiose Group Battles – August 2 — August 6
Goldenrod, Undella. & Rustboro Group Battles – August 7 — August 11

Final Elimination Rounds – August 13 onwards.

Participant Entry Confirmation

It has been a while since we first opened sign-ups to the tournament, and it’s likely some of those who signed-up are now unable to take part, or simply do not wish to. As such we’ve decided that participants must now confirm their entry using the form below by July 17. Those who do not do so will be removed from the tournament and unable to participate. If you have changed your username since this list was created please inform us and we will change it accordingly.

The following participants are required to fill out the form:

  1. In Kiloude City, your rival owns TWO Hoenn Pokemon: Absol and Altaria. The only Pokemon capable of evolving is Absol. However, because no Kalos Pokemon at the time had Mega Evolution and both Jolteon/Vaporeon/Flareon and Clefable need stones to evolve, the only Pokemon viable for Mega Evolution is Altaria… MEGA ALTARIA CONFIRMED! lol

  4. Random story that I thought I’d share:

Was at the saturday market yesterday, saw this really adorable pikachu plush from hasbro that I had to buy. This little kid seen me buying it and screamed he wanted it, so I raced up to the stand and gave the guy my money, BOY let me tell you. This little kid threw himself on the ground and was screaming at the top of his lungs like if someone was killing him. “MOMMY I WANT IT AND HE GOT IT” I truly felt terrible. Big old me buying this little plushie. Did I give it to him? NO LOOL. I raced back to my mom and tossed it in one of her bags ^_^ Now it’s on my bed behind me. Think I might start collecting plushies. #IsThisHowShinyXatuFeels?

  6. Why I like the physical copy:
Downloading takes a long ass time
if you break your 3ds you lose all games on it
I love taking the plastic off of a new game
    that new game box feel
getting that game in your hands
that first second of looking at it

  8. This is how tomorrow’s trailer is going to go:

Marth and Ike are sword fighting for practice, then the camera backs out, and you see a sword stab the ground. The unidentified person attacks Marth and Ike, and they try to defend themselves. Just when it looks like they are about to be defeated, Shulk comes down and slices the sword out of the attackers hand.
    SHULK SLICES THE BATTLE!
Then, the camera zooms in on the attacker.
    CHROM ATTACKS!
Gameplay shows, yadda yadda, then their final smashes are shown, as well as new Xenoblade items and assist trophy.

    Then, after the finishing logo;
“Don’t start the party without me!”

    DAISY STARTS THE PARTY.

  9. So I stay in with Tyranitar against a Thunderus and Stone Edge, because i know he will over predict and and not Focus Blast, and I get called stupid for staying in…and he forfeits.

When things don’t go according to plan…they panic

    • ‘You know what I’ve noticed? Nobody panics when things go “according to plan.” Even if the plan is horrifying! If, tomorrow, I tell the press that, like, a gang banger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it’s all “part of the plan”. But when I say that one little old mayor will die, well then everyone loses their minds!’

    • I’m kinda confused on how t tar is still ou. After the weather nerf, both politoad and ninetails fell to NU. Also rock/dark is terrible typing.

      • Tyranitar has amazing Bulk, One of the most versatile move pools in the game, access to a massive variety of viable sets, can be a wall, a utility pokemon, a sweeper, a wall breaker.

Sand Stream was never Tyranitar’s selling point, it was everything combined that makes him such a threat

        Reply
      • Because Politoad and Ninetales both suck pretty bad without those abilities. Tyranitar was always good, with good bulk, attack, and a fantastic movepool. It isn’t just about abilities.
