Pokémon Battle Trozei Reviews

Haven’t purchased Battle Trozei yet? Still pondering on whether you should? Now that Battle Trozei is out for a few days, we can take a look at what all the critics have to say on it. Reviews are still slightly scarce, but I will update this post once more hit. Be sure to read the full reviews linked instead of only going by the score given!

GodIsAGeek – 5/10
Pokémon Link Battle! has a surprising amount of charm with the cute character sprites and animations, but while the gameplay is somewhat addictive to start with, it quickly becomes repetitive. Taken in tandem with the other issues, it makes Pokémon Link Battle difficult to recommend.

Destructoid – 6.5/10
Pokemon Battle Trozei is fun while it lasts, but the lack of depth will ensure that it won’t last long. If you’re a huge Pokemon fan you may enjoy the ability to catch all 718 on pure principle, but puzzle enthusiasts should look elsewhere for a long-term solution. It’s simply not as good as its predecessor, so those who are looking at getting back into the Trozei universe should proceed with caution.

PocketGamerUK – 7/10
Pokemon Link: Battle! isn’t the most inventive puzzle game from Nintendo, but it’s different enough from the throng of competitors to justify its existence, and it has a plethora of content and plenty of replay value to boot.

TheSixthAxis – 7/10
There’s definitely a nice element of exploration and collection to be had, as befits a Pokémon game, and like all good puzzle games its mechanics are welcoming, with increasing levels of depth as you gain a better understanding. Admittedly it’s never going to set the world on fire, but it’s not intended to, offering instead a relatively cheap portable gaming experience that’s a perfect fit for the device and for a large proportion of its owners.

Nintendolife – 8/10
Pokémon Link: Battle’s surprise announcement hasn’t given fans much time to get hyped up about its arrival, but it certainly deserves to find a large audience. The Match 3 puzzle action is well done, and the emphasis on building combo attacks makes it feel significantly different from other examples of this genre. There’s also the appeal of collecting all of the 718 Pokémon in the game, and while the lack of online multiplayer feels like a missed opportunity, local co-op matches with friends fill the void to an extent. Like so many puzzle titles, repetition does become an issue over prolonged periods of time, but the portable nature of the host platform makes this ideal short-burst entertainment.

NintendoWorldReport – 8/10
Pokémon Link: Battle is quite a rapid and fun puzzle game for the Nintendo 3DS eShop. With hundreds of Pokémon to collect and many levels to enjoy, this will certainly keep you busy while on the go. The multiplayer could have been better and there are some extremely minor balance issues, but that shouldn’t stop you from the enjoying the game to the fullest.

Enjoy! Now go spamming in the comments again!
