Saboten Store’s “Syrup Art” in Seoul

Anime art and syrup have probably never even been used in the same sentence, but Saboten Store, a faux maid anime café, combines the two together to create some amazing and delicious artwork. I’ve read about this café through various Naver blogs and from there learned about their miraculous creations. With the purchase of any toast or cheesecake, you also get the chance to make an additional purchase for “시럽아트”, or “Syrup art”, in which the café staff draw whatever game or anime character you would like on your dish. My friend and I who went are both huge Pokémon fans, so we naturally decided on two of our favorite Pokémon; Mega Scizor (my friend) and Mega Ampharos (myself). And the outcome was…

…pretty amazing, if you ask me. I do love the toast addition to Scizor and Ampharos! We’re going to do a Pokémon scene next time; possibly Mew and Mewtwo on separate plates fighting. If there was such thing as a delicious nerdgasm, then that would be it.

Not only that, but the café itself was quite cozy and eclectic; just how I like them. It’s full of imported Japanese anime stuffs for purchase. They didn’t have much game merchandise aside from numerous “Persona 4: The Movie” collectibles and a few games.

The menu on the café was simple. It has all of the essentials; basic tea, a few coffee drinks, and a couple of desserts. The staff were super friendly and they all donned amazing maid outfits. One was gracious enough to let me take a picture with her!

If you ever happen to be in Seoul, definitely make your way to this café. It’s has a unique atmosphere packed with all sorts of video game and anime fans alike. To get there, take the metro to Sadang station and go out of exit 11. Walk forward for a few blocks and Saboten Store will be on the second floor of a business building to your right. It’s difficult to miss! The menu is only in Korean and the staff don’t speak a whole lot of English, so make sure to look up some key words / phrases for Cafés before you go. Here’s a list of phrases that you might need if you ever do make it to Saboten:

안녕하세요!
Annyonghasayo!
(hello)

(food/drink item here) 주세요.
______ ju-seh-yo.
(please give me _____)

What would you get on your plate? I can’t wait for my next visit! My buddy and I were also thinking of a “derp” theme featuring Dunsparce and Goomy. If we get a third friend with us, Stunfish would have to join in.

  1. Did anyone notice when you first encounter Xernias, it’s in a tree-like state. When you first encounter Yveltal, its in a cocoon-like state. When you first encounter Zygarde… and Zygarde in general… looks like larvae.. It’s still in its beginning state/form 🙂 Big eyes, lives underground, two little white holes on the sides of its body that looks like something is ready to break out of him… Zygarde is a really big larvae… And its dex entry hints at it revealing its secret power 🙂

    Can’t wait for Zygardenite 🙂

      • I’m more excited for the next game(s) than I am for Bank. Really excited for how they’ll play out the rest of XY’s storyline… Because Zygarde has so many similarities to Rayquaza.

Groudon and Kyogre were on an eternal battle and Rayquaza came down to set them both apart. Pretty much like Zygarde maintains the balance between Xerneas and Yveltal.
Now Kyogre and Groundon both have a bst of 670 while Rayquaza has 680 and has an ability that counters both Kyogre’s and Groundon’s ability. Same thing with Zygarde except for one thing, Zygarde only has 600 bst which is to low for a major legendary. IMO its pretty obvious its going to get a Mega Evolution. The only legend besides Mewtwo to do so.

        • I believe in the XY sequels/sequel it’s going to have a new leader of Team Flare come into fruition. The leader tries to ruin Kalo’s ecosystem by causing war between Kalos and its neighboring region (like the war that happened long ago) and Zygarde is going to come slithering out and reveal its true power in an awesome antimated sequence and we Mega Evolve it to beat the leader/save both regions

        • I would love for an addition to this gen. This will be the first time since Yellow that I get the 3rd installment in a generation, if that happens instead of direct sequels. I think there will be huge additions to the next one. It’s going to be awesome.

      • I think form changes are dated now. They were done with Deoxys, Shaymin, Kyurem, Keldeo, Giratina…. its about time they give us a new mechanic for a Legendary and that’s Mega Evolving Zygarde…

          • Yep forgot about those!!

Zygarde has a base stat of 600, Mega Evolution gives a pokemon an increase of 100 stats. This would make Zygarde have 700 base stats and rival Mega Tyranitar/Mega Garchomp/Both Kyurems

      • yep! 600 base stats is really low for a “third” legendary in a trio. And since Mega Evolution induces 100 base stats, it would make Mega Zygarde have a base stat of 700, tying it with Mega Tyranitar/Mega Garchomp/B&WKyuremFusions. And only Mega Mewtwo will have stronger, with like 760-780 or something

    • Think Kyurem.
      Zygarde-X and Zygarde-Y?
It may not combine with Xerneas and Yveltal this time, they might use mega evo for it. It could be either mega stones dropped by Xerneas/Yveltal or maybe they “die” (yeah this is a kids game, but hey, tons of people were implied to be killed in X/Y’s backstory and threatened ot be killed by Team Flare) and become mega stones.
